PLEASE HELP - Panasonic DV captured, audio goes out of sync

I'm capturing an hour of DV from a Panasonic PV-GS500, using Capture Now. Initially the audio and video appear to be in sync, but when I view the latter portion of the hour, the audio and video are markedly out of sync. This has occurred with several different tapes. I don't recall if this happened with FCE 3.5; I'm using 4.0.1.
The recording was made with 16 bit audio. I chose Easy Setup with format DV/Panasonic DVCPRO, using DV-NTSC, and rate 29.97fps. My sequence is 48kHz.
Any help would be appreciated!

I re-captured the same tape I had trouble with the first time, but this time I started at the beginning without any lead time and it worked without audio/video sync problems. So I think the source of the problem was that I was changing Easy Setup settings after making a new project/sequence, instead of creating a new project/sequence after selecting the Easy Setup settings I want.
I have 2 related additional questions. I hope someone will take a stab at answering these.
Question ONE
I checked my Easy Setup settings again, and the format is shown as "custom." I'm sure I didn't select this intentionally; I selected DV-NTSC. Not sure if this "custom" setting is why things are working now. Any idea why this setting might have changed to "custom" automatically by FCE?
The "custom" settings are as follows:
Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
Device Control Preset: FireWire NTSC
Playback Output Video: None
Playback Output Audio: FireWire DV
PTV Output Video: Same as Playback
PTV Output Audio: Same as Playback
If I change the format back to DV-NTSC, Playback Output Video changes to "Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)." I'm not sure if this is relevant.
Question TWO
Say I've imported all this DV, without audio/video sync problems, with certain Easy Setup Settings. What if I then switch to a different camera for which the capture format is different (say DV-NTSC 32kHz FireWire Basic). Will that create any problems? I ask because presumably my old Easy Setup settings (for my first camera) are still being used by the Project or Sequence. The second camera requires new Easy Setup settings, but these settings are not congruent with the Project or Sequence I'm working with.
Maybe another way to ask this question is this: Can I mix and match DV from different cameras without any problems, even though the Easy Setup settings are changed within the same project and sequence?
Thanks again.

  • HELP!  Audio goes out of sync after export!

OK, folks. I need your help. I have a looming deadline of THIS FRIDAY to hand this in.
I have a finished multicam edit of a show that runs 1 hr 20 min. It plays back perfectly in the timeline, all video and audio perfectly in sync. Looks and sounds exactly like what I need.
When I export the video as an H.264 file, the audio gets out of sync with the video by 13 frames! But that's not all... It doesn't happen to the entire audio track. There's about 50 minutes in the middle of the video where the audio goes out of sync. The audio at the beginning and ending of the video is lined up perfectly in sync. It's just the middle section that gets screwy.
    What do I do?!
This has never happened before, and I've worked a lot with multicam in Premiere Pro CC before this. Never been an issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere, and also deleting all media cache files, but still no dice.  I also tried copying the clips into a new sequence in the same project, copying the clips into a new sequence in a NEW project, nesting the sequence... nothing works.
    My setup:
    MacBook Pro Retina (Rev. A)
    Premiere Pro CC (latest version)
Panasonic GH3 footage in 1080p 24p AVCHD timeline
3 cameras & 1 audio WAV file in Multicam
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I figured out how to fix it:
In Premiere Pro CC, click on SEQUENCE > DELETE RENDER FILES.
    Try exporting the movie again.
It worked! I exported the same sequence, and it took a long while to re-render the audio files, but when it was finished exporting the audio and video were in perfect sync. I'm not sure what caused it, but this fixed it, so hopefully anyone else having this issue can save a lot of time by reading this.
    Cheers!

  • Video and audio goes out of sync when imported into Premiere

I have some videos ripped from some DVD that an acquaintance made, with an open source program called HandBrake, with the default "high profile" settings. When I play it both in VLC and in Quicktime, it plays just fine, but when I import it either in Premiere or in After effects, the video and audio goes out of sync (the video ran faster than the audio and when the video stops, the missing audio is trimmed).
Video info according to Premiere (in Spanish but you may get the meaning).

"HandBrake, these days, is almost entirely about H.264 video, aka MPEG-4 Part 10.  HandBrake is migrating to quality-based encoding."
Hmmm.  I use HC Encoder to make my DVDs because it's the only free encoder I've found with the much more professional Constant Q encoding option.  But HC Encoder doesn't do HD sources for Blu-ray, so I've been wondering if I'd be stuck with the lame-*** consumer CBR and VBR options most encoders provide (including Adobe - hint, hint) when I eventually start working in HD.  This is a very interesting program, Handbrake.  I will have to check it out.

  • When audio goes out of sync..

In FCP7, when audio goes out of sync with the video track it came from (even when they are unlinked), a red warning box is displayed on the audio track and tells you how far out of sync it is, which easily enables you to resync.
Well, in FCX my audio went out of synce, but i didn't know it until i played back a segment i was working on, where i spliced two audio tracks and video tracks together. Right now i'm trying to fix the one audio track so that is synced up with its parent video track, but so far i'm just guessing that it's a good sync rather than knowing FOR SURE whether or not it's truly synced back up.
Is there any kind of work around, which enables you to resync in a manner similar to  before FCPX?
    Thanks

I am not sure if your problem has been solved already but here is the way to do that:
select in the clip in the timeline the part were the audio should be return in sync. use the blade-tool to make that part a seperate clip.
Higlight this clip in the timeline and use shift-F to highlight this clip in the browser. There it wil show up partially of course.
Use only the audio and put that part under the selected clip in the timeline where you need the original audio. remove the original out-of-sync audio.

  • Audio sync problems with greenscreen  I have replaced the camera audio with my zoom recorder audio and it is in sync. When I apply greenscreen the audio goes out of sync. What am i doing wrong?? So frustrating..Thanks, Peter

I have replaced the DSLR audio with audio from my Marantz recorder and it is in sync with the dialogue. I apply green screen and the audio goes out of sync. Cannot seem to make it work. what am I doing wrong? Thanks, Peter

Thanks for the reply. I don't have time for this. is it time to switch to a different editor?

  • When I use media manager to upres clip audio goes out of sync

I captured a clip and put it in DVNTSC 48kHz timeline at OfflineRT NTSC (Photo JPEG) then used the media manager to create a new sequence at full DV NTSC 48kHz res. I choose "Create offline", "set sequences to DV NTSC 48 kHz", and check all the boxes. I save a new project, open the new timeline and recapture the clip. The video looks great--it recaptures in full DVNTSC 48kHz res. But the audio is out of sync (by about 28 frames it looks like). What am I doing wrong? (This is the first time I'm trying this offline-then-online-process.) thanks.

Try exporting the iMovie project as a single full quality dv format quicktime file.
I use iMovie6 HD and this is my usual procedure that works well.
Make the movie in iMovie, will involve many separate clips. When finished, export (share) as a single full quality dv format quick time file. When I have an hours worth of smaller projects, I create a new iMovie project and import all of the quicktime .dv files for each separate short project. I add chapter markers in this project, then share with iDVD. I then burn an hours worth of stuff at best quality and distribute to family and friends.
iDVD seems to work better with iMovie source that has fewer clips.
BTW: Are you having problems with standard def or hi def iMovie source. Another part of my procedure is that I take the raw tapes and download the entire thing into one iMovie project. I don't edit or change the footage at all, just want to archive to DVD for posterity. In this case, I want to share the iMovie project with iDVD directly. This has worked OK for standard def projects, but my first hi def project (1080i) that I tried, the sound was out of sync. To fix this, I had to create a regular DV widescreen iMovie project, and drag all the clips into it from the HD project. It took over an hour for my humble mac mini to convert the files, but I was then able to share with iDVD and the finished DVD worked ok.
    Hope this helps.

  • AME - Converting to MP4 and different FPS - audio goes out of sync

    As described in the title.
    I'm reencoding a 1920x1080 29,97 fps video into a 1280x720 60 fps video. Audio is AAC 44100 stereo.
Basicly a task that many of those free converters on Windows do smoothly. I use Mac...
I'm surprised that it goes out of sync, like 3-4 secs EARLY sound on a span of 2 mins video.
    Settings here:
    AME CS6 Fully updated
    source: 1920x1080 29,97fps MP4 with AAC 44100hz audio
    Target:
    Codec: H264
    Saves as : MP4
    1280 x 720
    60 fps Progressive - NTSC
    CBR VBR1 VBR2 doesn't matter
    Max rendering quality
Codec Audio AAC 44100hz (as source)
    Any ideas ?

Because we stream at 60 fps and we have to convert all the materials we receive from our partners from the usual 29,97 to 60.
    Thanks for your MVPaluable help.

  • Audio goes out of sync when i open project on diff macs

i have an iMovie project created on an iMac saved to an external.
I go to open the project up on my macbook and the audio is out of sync.

what other differences might there be?

  • Captured audio is out of sync

I captured a 12 minutes clip using Capture Now in FCE 3.5 from my PAL camcorder Canon MVX4i (=Optura 600).
This is the first time it happens to me: the captured clip has the audio portion out of sync with respect to the video by 5 frames. So, the audio is consistently 5/25 fps = 0.2 seconds late during the whole clip. Unfortunately, this is quite visible when people are speaking.
As a workaround I set the clip in the timeline, unlinked the audio, shifted the video portion forward by 5 frames, marked the clip in sync and relinked (BTW it took me a while to find out that 5 was the right value: lot of tests adding and subtracting a frame at the time, and listening ...)
I doubt the cause is the camera, so my question is: what is the cause of this out of sync ?
    Thanks
    Piero
    Some additional info.
I used the same setup I've been using so far: camera directly connected to the iMac, capture to an external firewire hard drive, use of Capture Now just because it's faster with short movies. Tha movie was shot with 16 bit audio. The shift is the same all along the clip.

    Hi Ian,
I'll check tonight once more, just to be sure. I doubt though, because being aware of the possible impact of the 32KHz, I am usually careful. But I also know that editing after 11 pm is not recommended to me... I might do silly mistakes...
In any case, I'm afraid there is a problem with the tape. Could a damaged tape causes out of sync during capture ?
    Thanks
    Piero

  • Rate Stretch audio goes out of sync when exported.

Audio, which is rate stretched using the rate stretch tool to 100.01%, plays fine in Premiere Pro CS6. However, when exported to Encore or to MPEG-2 file, the audio is no longer stretched and becomes out of sync by the end of the video. When I play the preview in Encore, the audio is out of sync. Switch back to Premiere, it is OK. Export a MPEG-2 file and author a DVD, the audio is out of sync. Go back to Premiere, it is OK. I record the audio using a TASCAM portable recorder. I have recorded and synched audio many times and this is the first time that it does not work, on two separate Premiere projects. Any ideas on how to fix this. Even better, is there a way to record audio so that it matches the video (from a Panasonic HD AVCHD camcorder) without requiring rate stretch adjustment?

Try changing the speed with right click, Speed/Duration instead of using the Rate Stretch tool.

  • My audio goes out of sync after import

I have a bunch of masters of 1h documentaries that I've done using Adobe Premiere CS6. I've exported the masters using exactly the same specs:
    Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ), 23.98fps, 1920x1080p, 48kHz, 16b, PCM audio.
I have to do some changes on the masters of these shows. They all play fine on several players like VLC, Quicktime, Mpeg Streamclip, etc. However after I import the masters into Premiere Pro CC, 3 out of 10 shows get the audio gradually out of sync, even on the source monitor before I put them on a timeline. The behaviour continues even after I place them on a timeline.
The project settings are the same as the masters and so are the sequence settings. I've tried to recreate the project, delete and re-import, duplicate the file and import that, and no matter what I do the same 3 masters go out of sync after the import.
I've tried to find a solution in many forums and despite noticing that several people have the same issue, no one has a valid solution for my problem.
I cannot go back to CS6 since my company updated their systems to CS7 so I can't even cross check.
Any suggestion will be most welcome.
    Thanks in advance peeps.
    NJ

    Couple of suggestions.
First, rather than opening the Master export, go back to the original project.  That should open fine in CC.
Second, with a CC subscription, you do have access to the full CS6 suite.

  • Audio goes out of sync when Blu-ray folder is exported from Encore CS6

I compile a project in Encore using H.264 and .wav files. The audio plays fine directly from the timeline. It also plays fine when I preview it from Encore. When I finally export it as a set of Blu-ray folders, the audio exports out of sync with the video. It is approximately 6-7 seconds ahead of the video. What am I doing incorrectly? When I mux the files into an .MKV, the video is in sync with the audio so I know the files themselves do not have different start times.
I am running with an HP Z820 with Windows 7, 64-bit OS and 16GB RAM.

For anyone who's interested, I found a solution to this problem. Once imported into Encore, the leader in on the video and audio files cannot be trimmed at all. (I had been trimming the beginning of the video and matching audio file to eliminate the 8 seconds of dead space at the start of the clips.) Although the trim took effect immediately in the Encore timeline and I could also watch it in preview in sync, exporting was another story. The audio track seems to retain the trim when exporting but the video track does not, hence the 6-7 second delay between audio and video.
I reimported the files to my project and left in the 8 seconds of dead space at the start and voila! The video and audio match up when exported.
Ideally the trim tool would just work as its supposed to through export and all, but at least I found a solution I can work with.
(As a note, the trim works just fine in export on Encore CS5. I only had this problem with Encore CS6.)

  • AppleTV export: Audio goes out of sync on long videos

I am using Quicktime Player Pro to compress several long (30-90min) videos to watch on my other Apple products. The AV sync is perfect in my original movies (they are NTSC 29.97 DVCPRO50 with uncompressed AIFF 48KHz audio) However, when I export using any of the h264 presets (AppleTV, iPod, or iPhone) the audio becomes out of sync near the end of the video.
This seems like a bug. Is there some way to correct this?

Trim into smaller clips well under 30 minutes. Encode each separately then join them after. You can encode the clips a lot faster in MPEG Streamclip (free) and in a batch list as well.

  • Importing a recorded Skype call into Premiere Pro & audio goes out of sync. PLEASE help!

Every time I try and import a clip it gets out of sync, but if I open the file in quicktime its perfect???

(Not sure why this response was originally rejected by the moderators, but am trying again.)
A solution that worked for us:
[EDIT] I do NOT work for any of the companies included in this solution, nor do I receive any kind of renumeration from them. I am recording the software and steps we used to overcome the problem of the original poster.[END EDIT]
The Skype Call Recorder (Ecamm) has 4 built-in converter/splitter apps (you have to look in the "Movie Files" folder to find them). We used the apps to split the recorded Skype video calls into 2 separate "conversations" and then used a free online converter (http://www.online-convert.com/) to convert the conversations into MP4s. Once the MP4s were imported into Adobe Premiere the audio lined up perfectly with the video.
    Hope this helps somebody.

I have the feeling there isn't a real solution for many of us who are having this problem.
I just gave up and exported to the desktop, and then used YouTube's uploader, which works fine.
Sorry, I don't have a fix, but wanted to add my voice as someone who has tried a lot of ways with his iMac, and figured it wasn't worth all the hassle. YouTube's uploader lets me upload many clips at once, add commentary, and then go do something else, sure that it will go ok. I had the iMovie-YouTube link working for a bit, but then it went all haywire again.
