  • Please help recover colour

I was asked to shoot and edit a concert for young girls who performed tap and ballet. I orginised 1 x 3 chip camera and 2 x single chip cameras to capture as much footage as possible. Unfortunitly on the night 2 of the cameras did not show and I was forced to shoot with one, my single chip sony trv120. In regards to editing this was a major let down, although now I have to use what i have.
I positioned myself midway to be able to film the entire stage and also be able to capture some closeups. The close ups are pretty good near perfect colour, although for all of the long shots seem to be washed white and have virtually no resemblance to the true colours of the night.
I was going to use imovie hd to edit the show although i have access to final cp.
Is it possible to use final cut pro to just correct the colours and then go back to imovie to finish the edit. Having just installed fcp it looks like I will have to read the 2000 page user manual before I can even start capturing the footage.
PLEASE ANY HELP WILL BE MOST APPRECIATED (yes, my daughter is in the show, so please help me get brownie points with my wife and little girl)
    mario

i'm with michael here, dive into fcp and toss iMovie into the scrap heap, you won't regret it. the 2000 page manual is a good read.
several things working against you here on the main wide shot and the main one is the camera and the second is the auto iris. that little camera has a very narrow range of luma latitude to begin with and the auto iris didn't help. i'm assuming the wide scenes have a huge of amount blown out bright spots, the black levels are in the dumper and everything in between is kinda not there. one thing you can try doing is lowering the white level, raising the black level and increasing the saturation.
there are other more advanced techniques that can bring out more color but you'll need to get up to speed real quick with fcp to do them.
good luck. roll up your sleeves and get to work.

  • Please help: Book Cover Changes Colour When Exported

    Hi there,
I have designed a book jacket with a black background - all fairly minimalistic design elements for an economics book.
When I export the file to PDF or png - I am getting the inverse image in terms of colour and the text is an outline instead of its actual colour.
I am not sure what I have done or what I should do. Please help..l[

    Echoing what Peter touched on.
Mac Preview does not address all the Adobe modules in Acrobat.
    Acrobat is best for viewing.
You say it's a dust jacket, dust jackets are print, so have you used a print profile of CMYK that your printer has provided?
If not - then please get one. Also calibrate you monitor for colour.
If it's being printed, get a colour proof and talk with your printers on colour issues.

  • sob Please help - screen just showing flashing colours

I`ve had my ibook 1.4MHz laptop for about a year, and never had any problems. suddenly today i was watching a movie and the screen juddered and blinked on/off a few times, then went plain black. Then it went plain white. Then blue, then red, then green - and it just continues to slowly cycle through those colours.
I`ve tried killing the power and rebooting, and the hardrive makes all the right whirring sounds, but the display just comes up slowly cycling through those colours again.
I don`t have any kind of warrenty for it, since i bought it 2nd hand through a classified ad. I realise i`m gonna have to take it to get repaired, but i`d be really grateful for any ideas about what it might be, and (more importantly) how expensive its gonna be to repair.
Please help!!! This machine is my life!

It sounds like a logic board failure to me. If I remember correctly, out of warranty logic board replacements will run you somewhere in the ballpark of US$900. Of course, because it is out of warranty, it would be a lot cheaper to visit a site such as www.pbfixit.com.They offer guides to tell you how to perform any ibook operation. But, it will require dismantling just about the entire computer, and you probably aren't up to that. Not many people I know are. So, have Apple do it-US$900. DIY-around US$500, and you get to do it. Or, buy a new computer and try to copy you're files to the new one-US$1200, and you get a brand new computer. Those are the options I forsee, but I may be wrong. Any way, you are spending a lot of money.

I made some amendments to my colour settings in PS CS5 and now everything prints black and white. Please help me to reset all the settings to default. This was after I tried to implement the steps set out in Real World Photoshop CS5. I stuggele to match the colours of my two screens, the one a laptop and the other a LCD and the printer, even after calibration with Spyder 3. Really lost at present.

Tap Settings / Wi-Fi. Tap the blue circle with an arrow to the right of your network then tap: Forget This Network.
Restart the iPad. Tap Settings / Wi-Fi. Tap the network name again then type in your password.
If that didn't help, try here >  Apple - Support - iPad - Wi-Fi Assistant
And try turning off your router for 5 minutes, then turn it back on. Try typing in the password again.

  • Please help.. hyperlinks keep changing colour

    Please help..
I am working in Iweb 3.0.03 on a macbook (chrome installed)..
When I set the colours of the hyperlinks they are in grey but when I ftp the pages all the browsers change the hyperlink text to red? How can I stop this from happening? I am formatting the colours and on my macbook and everything looks how it should how I upload?
    Could anyone please help..
    Many thanks

Yes, all hyperlinks on every page are meant to be the same colour format.
I use transit as an ftp
I might just change all the colouring to look the same..
    Thanks alot
Are all of the hyperlinks at the left supposed to have the same color format? If so select one, reset all of the colors and click on the Use for New Links on Page button. Then publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and check it locally with your browser to see if the colors are as they should be.
Are you hosting your site at a 3rd party server or on a MobileMe account? If it's a 3rd party hosting server publish to a folder on your hard drive and check the site locally with your browser. If the colors are good then the problem lies in the uploading of the file.
H\how are you uploading the files? With iWeb or a 3rd party FTP client? If it's iWeb try using the free FTP client Cyberduck to upload the site folder and the index.html file.

  • HELP! Colour Profiles

    Hi there,
Please help! I have been asked by a client to design a leaflet for his business, it's pretty standard and he wanted colours that are used in his l
His logo was designed in Photoshop and I asked for the original file but he only had a high res jpeg and a flattened PSD. I asked for the Pantone or CMYK values but was just given web values so I colour matched the colours used in the logo and transported the jpeg into InDesign and just carried on laying the leaflet out as I normally would using the CMYK colour match values. I sent him the proof and he said he wanted the colours changed as they weren't bright enough. When I looked at the Photoshop file again he was right, the original colour is much brighter. Changed the colour profile I was working in (Which was RGB) to CMYK. The colour in the logo immediately looked brighter so I matched that colour and it matched to an RGB colour so I changed all the colours to the RGB colour (even though I wanted to work in CMYK) which looked much more like the original logo colour.
However when I proof the colours it turns back to the duller colour. Does anyone know what is causing this problem? I have never encountered it before? Is it because it was designed using web values or am i working in the wrong profile? How do I change it so that the colour looks the same on the print document as it does on the PSD logo?
I need a quick turn around on this and am out of my depth at the moment! I have just set up Freelance as I was made redundant from my last job and I haven't ever encountered this before. Hoping one of you knows how to help.....I'm working in CC
Looking forward to hearing your replies,
    Many thanks in advance

It's difficult to recommend anything without seeing the file.  If possible, attach the .psd to your post.  InDesign has application color settings.  If you have Adobe Bridge, you can synch all of your application color settings there.  I am concerned about an obvious shift where it is obvious to the customer.  He says the business cards match, but in reality they may not.  The way things are going, he will continue to run into problems matching color further on even if he does business with someone else.  When you open the PSD in Photoshop, assign the Adobe RGB there and save it under a new name so you know in the furture it is Adobe RGB.  Forget the JPEG ( use it for web only ).  I am assuming the file is PSD because it needs to be PSD for whatever reason.  In InDesign, set your CMYK workspace to an appropriate profile ( like SWOP Coated v2 ).  Now, if the file is so dulled down that it is noticeable, then you could adjust the "CMYK" curves to brighten it a bit.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain some more work ( if possible ) with this client.  That will require educating him/her in the proper logo production techniques.  No way should a logo be produced in Photoshop and especially RGB color space.  You've been in the business long enough to know what the proper procedures are.  If they are unwilling to invest in a rock solid solution, then it may be better to reject their business and move on.  Client is basicly blaming you for their mistakes.  The frustration is that the client likes monitor color which is an illusion.  At this point, client has to be more cooperative and lead you to their business card printer so you can investigate what they received from said client as a file and in what color space using what profile.  If printer accepted an RGB based file, ask them for their workflow requirements and file parameters.  This should give you a little more background so you can beging to build a solid foundation for said client's corporate identity.  If their vendor, along with themselves, refuse to cooperate, then forget them.  It's in their best interest to supply you with everything you need to accomplish whatever outlandish color they were able to achieve.

  • Creative Suite 1 and Pantone Colour Bridge

I've recently bought the Pantone Colour Bridge Fan Deck, registered it and installed the Colour Manager download. Im currently running Creative Suite 1 and a Mac OS X 10.6.8 - except when I export the Pantone colour bridge swatch library and try to open the swatch library in any of my applications I get a error message.
Indesign gives me a pop box that says...
"Cannot create swatch library. There are no swatches in the file "Mactintosh HD:Applications:Adobe InDesign CS:Presets:Swatch Libraries PANTONE+Colour Bridge Coated.acb"
Illustrator gives me a pop box that says...
"The file "PANTONE+ Color Bridg#5DBDB7.acb" is in an unknown format and its styles cannot be imported"
I have tried the "ase" format file too, and that gave me the same result.
Can some one please help me out with this. Is it just that my Creative Suite 1 is just too old and not compatible?
    Many thanks

  • Pantone Colours displaying differently

I am working on a document in InDesign CS5.5, where the Pantone colour used is 7461C (our corporate colour). I have a vector EPS image of some circles that was created before I started, which was a slightly incorrect shade of blue - when it was printed professionally you could see a difference. I've changed the blue of the circles using Illustrator CS6, so that it is also 7461C.
I've just added the circles into the InDesign file and put them next to a box that is 7461C and noticed a slight shade variation (please se image below). I took a screen shot, pasted this into Photoshop CS5.1 to check the colours and the circles are displaying as 7461C, but the actual blue bar is displaying as 2925C, even though both have been set up as the Pantone 7461C, rather than CMYK values or something else.
Is anyone able to help please?

First of all: Why are you using EPS? Don't! Use PDF/X-4 or AI instead.
There is no need to open a placed file with a wrong spot color in InDesign. Open the ink manager and target the wrong spot color to the correct one.
The appearance of a spot color on screen should not bother you as the printer will print it with the specific ink.
Did you check the overprint preview and high quality display in InDesign?
How does it look like, if you export to PDF/X-4?

  • Help! Colour banding graphics problem /posterization?

    Hi.
I've been having a few problems lately with colour banding/gradients/posterization. I first noticed it 3 or 3 days ago in photoshop, and seem to have noticed it's mostly system wide. I ask her because you're all clever and I don't have a clue what to do next! So please help me!
Quoted from my thread somewhere else that I've had no luck with and was recomendded to try here...
Since yesterday whenever I'm using Photoshop and there is blurred edges/gradients etc, basically not solid colours, there is really noticeable sharp colour banding lines around it.
It's happened before and I've accidentally had it on 8-bit instead of 16-bit, but I've checked all that and it's on 16-bit.
I've googled it and the only suggestion was about duplicating the layer and blurring it then adding noise, but that didn't even work.
[EDIT] SINCE THEN I HAVE REALISED IT IS AFFECTING SYSTEM WIDE GRADIENTS AND COLOURS
My system is set to Highest 32-bit too. I changed it to 16-bit to see what happened and it made the banding 10 times worse.
    An example of the problem
Posted: Thu May 03, 2012 7:32 pm    Post subject:
It's supposed to be a smooth gradient. I didn't use the gradient tool, I used the brush tool with solid white and then smudged and blurred it like I always do.
That's a good point, and actually I did start it as an 8-bit originally (my photoshop has been starting as 8-bit, grayscale for a few weeks now and I don't know why) but then after I remembered and changed it to 16-bit, and noticed the banding, I closed that document and started a new one and changed it to 16-bit RGB when the pop-up for a new document came up.
The resolution is always 72pixels/inch, and the size 256x512, colour mode RGB.
In advanced it says colour profile Working RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 which I have no clue what means, and I never usually click advanced so I don't know if that is usually that or different.
When I use the brush tool and blur and smudge it it's fine, with no banding. It's only when I lower the opacity of that layer, or use Hue/Saturation and Lightness to darken it so it's hardly visible that the banding appears.
I've just tried it again with a fresh new document and it's still the same. Even in 32-bit it's exactly the same.
It's done it before, and all I did was close and reopen Photoshop and it was all fine again, but this time it happened last night and since then I have restarted my computer, had it turned off for hours, and I've even tried it on gimp and it's the same.
Ruled out that it's my monitor, tried a different one that I know works perfectly and it's still the same.
I've double checked all drivers, and monitor profiles, and drivers for my monitor, and colour profiles, and colour management, my graphics card settings, device manager for problems with any hardware, and everythings coming back fine. Could it be that my graphics card is old and just needs replacing? I'm not good with which one to buy so would getting a new one the same be of any help? The computer is about 6 years old, and the only thing changed on it is the RAM and hard drive.
I don't really want to end up not using this computer anymore if it's a simple graphics card issue, I just don't know how to tell if it is.
The thread that is from is here if you want to see some suggestions I've already had.http://www.imvu.com/catalog/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpbb2&file=viewtopic.php&t=423942 &postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
My username is 'Ao'  on there so that is me explaining the problem.
    To add to that...
Here is another example of what is happening.
I'm thinking from all the answers I got from google its a graphics card problem. Only problem is all the updates are installed, and I can't find anywhere that sells my graphics card to buy a new one. So I need to know which graphics card will work with my system right now?
I've done some tests so you can see my system details. Im clueless with which one to buy so please help.

Thank you for the reply, you seem to know what you're on about.
When I go to color managment in the first tab, devices, where it says profiles associated with this device it is empty, and 'use my settings for this device' is unticked. It says device at the top and mine says 'Display: Generic Pnp Monitor - Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family'.
I did try to set up my monitor and had the .icc file for it in that list that pops up when I tick use my settings and click add, and I think I did set the profile to be the one for my monitor. I can't remember exactly how I did it and where I get that .icc file from, I've been through so many settings and websites trying to fix this.
It's not like I've recently changed any hardware or anything or my monitor, I was on photoshop one minute and it worked fine, then the next it just didn't. It's so strange because all I was doing at the time was using photoshop and I don't understand how it can go from working fine to all these problems with graphics and the banding. It's so confusing.
I can noticeably see banding on that image. It is still a gradient and smooth to a degree, but there is obvious lines of colour differences, and a harsher line on the outside.
Is that smooth for you? For me there is very obvious banding, especially at the top on the white on black.
I just don't know what else to do. I've tried everything I can think of, and spent hours upon hours on google. I've even tried a system restore to put it back to how it was when it was working perfectly, but it's still the same. I tried it on another monitor, just plug and play, and it was the same. Is there an easy way to install a monitor properly so that it should in theory work perfect? Because you're talking about the monitor profile, but with the second one I tried to test it all I did was plug it in and it was still the same. I've even tried it on my tv, and as I remember I think it was less noticeable, but then again that might be because of my tv settings because my tv is quite dark.
Just clueless as to what else to do now. I don't want to go out and buy a new computer for £100's over this, as I don't really have the funds to do so but I need a computer so the only option would be to sell my new iphone that I only got last week! Which I obviously don't want to do. That's how desperate I am to fix this though.

  • Report alignment issues..please help

    Hi Experts,
    Can somebody help..
I have following issues in reports:
.I have a report which runs on web in both formats of PDF's and Excel
    Issues are
    1. In PDF formatl, all columns are being displayed but alignment is the issue.. Since our report should be A4 based. How to increase paper margins..because currently i am not able to drag that black thick coloured line further..? where to adjust and change report layout size..
    2. One more thing is that when i run the pdf report, it starts printing from left without leaving any gap(landscapre mode) and its leaving lots of space on the right.. How can i make equal of both left and right margins.
    3. When I am running excel report and its rnning fine saving in a xls.. but alignment is the issue...
4.some of the values which are varchar2 data from database... displaying right and some are left aligned.... for example.. if its ABCD then its aligning properly to right. But if it is EFGHEIJK the its doing left alignment... there is no code written for conditional formatting..but what could be the issue.. since the values are direct from table in database..why this is happening
    5. and In excel there is a data column which i manipulated as for example to_char(to_date(20100217,'yyyymmmdd'),'dd-mm-yyyy') and this is coming properly in pdf but not excel..in excel its says something like17-02-10,, yYYY is being displayed only as 10... is there any workaround (not manual))
    6. And in reports, if we create a field and database column is source for it, i would like to know whether there is any option in property column of the field to set width of the filed..
so that i can reduce of the width in layout to acommidate more column in the report. Because I really not knowing for 8 character database column, how much bigger field i have to create.....
    please help..
    thanks

  • Why is it, if i have one video clip in the timeline, i can't just add a transition at the end of that solo clip to fade to black!?! please help!

hey there, so im making a video for a family event..
i drag in an audio clip all of a sudden this becomes the be all and end all, and i want to sync some vid clips to that audio track, so let's say i drag in a 10 second video clip, at the end of the 10 seconds, i want to add a transition to fade to black.. i go to the transition window.. choose the cross dissolve or fade to colour, but it will not allow me to drag it on that video clip.. it always ends up on the audio track. this bloody application is so confusing compared to final cut. please help!

Ahhh, now I see the problem, Grasshopper.  Problem is, we are all Grasshoppers, here.
Yes, that little piece of info is critical. I'd say the biggest difficulty with FCPX is the whole new language.
If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline.  And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor.  Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right).  Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top.  Drag it left for however much fade you wish.  (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio.  Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing.
