Please help -- slooooow wifi

I have a 1 year old MacBook Pro and am having trouble with my wifi connection. I connect via Qwest DSL. After an hour on the phone with Qwest and lots of tinkering, I've confirmed that everything but my Macbook connects at about 12mbps. My wifi connection, however, is .5mbps. Any ideas? The Qwest person was nice, but basically said the problem was with my mac. Please help!

Have you tried to connect to a different network - maybe a friend's wifi or a coffee shop? That would help determine if it's your internet connection or your computer. I have a mid-2009 MBP and I'm getting 20mbs download speeds (Comcast). So it's either your ISP or something weird going on with your system.

PLEASE HELP - my wife is going to kill me! Cannot locate her "books"

OK - Here is the scoop! (Call me stupid!) We have about 14 blazillion pictures in iPhoto and I was attempting to manage them alittle better so I downloaded the freeware "iPhoto Buddy" to help manage the pics. Well, I obviously did not know what the heck I was doing and the next time I opened up iPhoto, it appeared that all our pictures were gone. I re-imported them into iPhoto and everything was great, except that I was not able to locate the phot albums that my wife has ordered and made via iphoto and mac.
Well she was OK with that (if she had to be) and so she proceeded to create the new "grandmother's" Christmas books and then I got stupid again and tried to find all the old albums she had made. Well, I saw on IphotoBuddy's help info that if you wanted to go back to y our original library - go to "Use Default Library" and that is what I did. Once that was finished - it appeared all was OK again, with all the OLD albums loaded back in iPhoto again, but now the one that she had spent HOURS on was missing. I had to reload the last month's pictures, but that was fairly painless.
SO - FIRST of all - how do I get rid of iPhotoBuddy (if and when that is appropriate?)
SECOND - how can I find the photo album that she has just made? She has nt ordered it yet, but she spend HOURS on it.
THIRD - can I "streamline" the "album" issues that I have? What do I need? iPhot library? 2003 library? 2004 library, etc? Please advise-

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It's apparent that you have two iPhoto libraries in your Pictures folder, the original one and the new one with the new book. You can use iPB to move between the two libraries until the book is completed and purchased. Then delete the book library and go back to the original with all the albums.
You can use iPhoto Library Manager to move between the two also but iPLM will let you rename the libraries to better identify them. You can call the library with the book "Book Library" and the folder in the Pictures folder will be renamed Book Library.
OR, the paid version of iPhoto Library manager will let you copy rolls and/or albums from one library to another and keep keywords, comments, etc. intact. So you could copy all of the albums from the old library into the "Book Library" and let it become your primary library.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

PLEASE HELP WITH WIFI ON MY STORM 2

Someone please help me set up my wifi on my blackberry storm 2. Technically i'm connected, but my little wifi thing is GRAY not WHITE(which I know means that my data is off -the way I want it to be) but when I go on my browser it says "unable to connect, try again later "

- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem

PLEASE HELP MY WIFI-ENCYPTION ISSUE!??!????!!!!!!!

I am having the same problem as everyone else on this board.
No encryption, the wi-fi works fine. With encryption, the wi-fi goes to edge for all internet related activities...
I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING EVERYONE HAS SUGGESTED ON THIS BOARD TO NO AVAIL...
I've tried all the solutions offered here and nothing works... I think it is because everyone has different routers/ internet companies that the solutions are so varied. Meanwhile, I still need help...
I've even tried calling Apple. The first tier guy tells me there is a known issue with this and it has something to do with the cell service and Apple chose to release the iphone anyway, without any warning... and that ****** me off...
They send me to the second tier guy who tells me the issue is I need 128bit encryption, and my router is running at 64. I say fine, go turn the router to 128 bit encryption. Still does not work. Them they tell me I need to do a full reset and loose all my text messages. I then ask for a higher person and so far that is where it has been left.
Everyone, I am on SBCglobal.net-Yahoo DSL service - which has just been switched to Att. I have a Gateway router, 802.11b...
If anyone has fixed this problem, can you PLEASE email me or answer here. I am still on with Apple tech support and they don't know anything. ISSUE SOLVED!!!!!!
They sent me to the top of top of Iphone folks - the product specialist. All this guy does is answer WiFi questions and solve WiFi problems. You will not believe this solution...
First, he told me that not everyone is having this issue. He said this issue is coming from older routers. Because iPhone uses the latest technology, it "likes" the WPA protocol instead of WEP, which he says is older technology that is PC friendly.
He also said, that while many people have tried many things, the solution will almost always depend on the type of router you have. Which is why some things work for some people and others don't work for all, and why nothing worked for me.
His solution which worked for me was:
1.) unplug router for AT LEAST 10 minutes
2.) reset network settings on iPhone [go to SETTINGS, then to GENERAL, then to NETWORK... then hit RESET NETWORK SETTINGS]
3.) power down iPhone [hold sleep/wake button 8 secs, then slide slider to off]
4.) turn on router [wait about 5 minutes for it to fully cycle up]
5.) Go to settings - WiFi - choose your network - when the password screen comes up, switch to Hex/ AscII, then enter password [no $] press enter.
And it came up!!!!!! And surfs without going to EDGE!!!! No dns crap, no static crap, nothing! When I asked him about it, since I had done all that and more, he said that with the iphone, it is not always what you do, but the timing and order you do it in... So everything needs to be cleared first before trying any option because the iphone will hold "widow" coding as you try the different options which will keep it from working.
If you want to talk to him directly, his name is TROY at 800-my-iPhone. He is a iPhone WiFi Product Specialist.
So for all of you who are still having a hard time, hopefully this helps.
I expect a long happy iPhone relationship after this initial glitch.

Please help about wifi

i'd like a kindle fire & am aware they don't come with 3g so was trying to look into wifi for it. my only option would be a hotspot. i dont want a contract & i dont have a smart phone to run one off of. any suggestions on no contract pre paid hotspots, that dont have the crappiest data limits... :]

I have a Sierra IG2 for my hotspot. I can go into the adminirator setup and set it to automatically switch from 4g to 3g. Other options are 4g only, 3g only. I can also tell it not to roam.
I use my hotspot at work on the days I work, and my wife takes it with her on my days off. We are both heavy users. I am glad that I have a very resonable truly unlimited data plans.
Several of my co-workers who still use iPhones and don't have internet at home have used my hotspot at work to update their phones to iOS 6. I use it to stream Netflix and iheartradio. My wife uses it for netflix and online gaming on her ipad, and also uses her Nook Color with it.
I use many, many Gb each month, and cannot ever see myself paying by the Mb, no matter how "convenient" the plan.

Please help me wifi problems

ok hears the deal when my mac is open iam connected to the internet but whenn i close the lid on the mac and open it again i loose the wifi so i have to to go to settings again to connect back again and this is really anoying

I'd been having this problem since upgrading to Lion and was getting very frustrated. Not only after sleep but during use of the laptop the wifi would drop out and I would have to do as you say. This was happening all the time. I googled to find a solution and one that I tried was to unplug our router and wait 15 seconds, then plug in and turn on. Wait for it to go through it's process, then restart your laptop. Since I did this yesterday I've no longer had the problem even after sleep mode. I hope it continues.

I wiped the hard drive and lost lightroom...please help before wife kills me...

Hi folks! First post here so go easy on the newb...
Our computer got slammed with a virus a few days back and we had to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything. So we lost lightroom. The original version we had was downloaded to begin with... so the only serial number we had was wiped with the rest of the hd. (bonehead, i know) We do have an upgrade serial number from when we upgraded our lightroom a while back, but it is useless without the "original SN#" which we don't have.
Is there anything we can do?

Time to get paranoid. For the future, backup everything, especially serial numbers and the like. I have a program in which I store all passwords, logins, serial numbers, etc that I need. Of course it is encrypted and it takes a password to get into it, but that is only ONE password. It is a desktop/mobile application, so it gets synced with my phone. (We travel a lot, so I need this information when we travel). All downloaded products and associated stuff live on an external drive and are backed up to another external drive. There is another copy made occasionally that lives offsite. I put a text file in the "products" directory for each program in which I ALSO have the serial number and any additional information about installation -- like what you need to install an upgrade, etc. I have learned to be paranoid through experiences similar to yours...
I do admit though that the companies are getting much better about forgotten serial numbers than they used to be, so it looks like you are saved this time.
I hope you have a copy of the database and the images? The images are truly irreplaceable, and the database is valuable.

I had an iPhone that did the same - it would connect to my wi-fi network and the disconnect. After restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone with no change, I made an appointment at an Apple store where it was confirmed the iPhone has a hardware problem.
If you have tried everything included with the link provided including restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem as I've provided 3 times now.

IOS6 WiFi Problems, please help!

I have the iPhone 4 and updated to the iOS6 today. Well after updating my wifi will not work.. The thing is I am at college and the wifi here you have to go to Safari and type in username and password everytime. Well when I go to do so, it will not load. PLEASE HELP.

I found a solution that has worked on both iPhone 4's I have that have had the same issues, and also including not being able to download updates in the App store.
Go to Settings > WiFi and turn it OFF.
Next go to General > Cellular > Cellular Data and turn it OFF
Next go back to Settings > WiFi and turn it ON, (wait a few seconds for it to sync with your network)
Finally go back to General > Cellular > Cellular Data and turn it ON.
I had the same issues on both my wife's phone, and my own, and it fixed it immediately without changing any proxy settings or reboots, (which I did try on my phone and did not work, but did not try on my wife's phone)

Thanks for this mha007 - I can now open FF with a new profile. Can I copy my settings from the old profile or will this bring over the same problem, maybe a corrupt file. If it would bring the same problem, is there any way I can check which file is corrupt, apart from taking them over one by one?

If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast. If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used. The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID . Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network. A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default. Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in. HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you. You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files. Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.
