Please help ... Static on my MINI!
I have the first generation mini and have had few problems with it. All of the sudden, yesterday, it was HORRIBLY full of static. I though that maybe it was my year and a half old headphones ... but, it appears to be with the mini itself. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on what to do? I don't want to junk it and I can't believe that this happened when I can't just go out and get a new one. I've had this mini since the day it was released and sent from Asia!
If you are out of warranty, I am afraid that it is time to toss it. :o/
I had the exact same thing happen to my first gen Gold Mini a couple of nights ago. Instead of music coming out of the headphone port, I am hearing static sounds from the CPU and the Hard Disk. Mine was also purchased the day they were available for sale on the Apple web site, so both of our units were probably made around the same time.
When I plugged it in to my JBL On Stage, the audio coming from the 30 pin dock connector was distorted and when connected to iTUNES through the On stage, the iPOD made ticking and beeping noises when it was being updated with new content.
For me this was the final death knell for an iPOD that had already been dying. My display backlight stopped working a few weeks ago, and the battery was not holding a charge over night.
I had already ordered a replacement Silver 6G with an EXTENDED WARRANTY which will be here today. :o)
I am afraid that you will need to buy something new too unless you have an extended warranty for this one.
I agree that it blows to have an expensive product like this not last past 18 months before it is totally dead, but I don't know what recourse we have other than buying another one, or another brand of player.

PLEASE HELP ME WITH DEAD MINI!
I have a second hand mac mini that died, which I previously posted about here but never received any help. After reading as much as I could find here and on other sites, I decided it must be a dead hard drive. Bought a new one, installed it and no dice.
It still wont boot. I still get the file folder icon with a smiling face that alternates with a question mark.
I've tried starting in safe mode and every other mode I could think of with the old hard drive and the new one. No dice.
When I try holding down the Option key while I push the boot button, I get a padlock icon, a space to type in a password and an arrow to the right on the screen. The person I bought this from swore he never used any passwords to protect anything.
What the **** can I do????!!!!!

It is quite possible that the motherboard circuitry that controls the disk is dead.
If you have the original disks that came with the Mac, you can reset the password yourself: Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password
Have you tried an external FireWire drive as a boot device?

Please Help - Static NAT not working.
I feel like I've tried everything. I'm trying to port-forward to an IP camera. I have ddns setup, and when I type in my domain name I get to my router, so ddns is working correctly. However when I type it in with the port of my camera I'm getting nothing. When I do a show ip nat statistics I see that there have been no static translations. Below is my config.

I am having major problems with my 4 gb mini
1. The i-pod says that thers is 3.2 gb available space, holding 187 songs now.
2. I-tunes says that I have used 3.72 gb and have 47.4 mb free.
3. My library holds 512 songs and has used 2.02 gb of space.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!
How can this be? Is there a way to compress the songs on my ipod?Is your iPod mini in disk mode and do you have
documents on it?

No I don't think it is in disk mode. I don't have anything besides music stored on it. It is very new. There are only 187 songs stored and according to itunes, it is almost completely full. But, on the ipod itself under the about menu, it says that there is 3.2 bg available.

I was in San Francisco last week and stopped in @ the apple store to see if they could help. I explained my situation. The store employee plugged in my ipod and to my surprise it worked. i have no idea what happened. The store employee was at a loss as well. Bottom line though, we both figured my mini needed a new battery. So, I have ordered a new battery.
I guess this proves that old ipods never die...they are just a little harder to wake up -
my IPod mini is about 5 yrs old and still great up until now. I never did updates on my itunes and ipod but never had a problem.
I finally did upgrade to the newest version and some of my music will not show on my ipod. and of course... the songs that won't tansfer are my shared songs. i understand that they cannot be transfered using the new updated version.
so i unistalled my itunes and installed my original software from my original CD.
This is the problem.... my itunes is fine but now my ipod is not compatible and will not show in itunes.
i know i've got myself in a pickle but is there anyway to downgrade my software in my ipod mini to its original version to keep using it the way i have for years?

Find another computer uninstall the iTunes and iPod updater, connect your iPod with the computer and do the format (not Restore)
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Once it has completed, install the iTunes and iPod updater from the CD software came with your iPod.
Connect your iPod with the computer, hope the iPod updater will recognize it and click Restore -

Mine does the same thing occasionally, is your phone jailbroken? Sometimes it will work if you delete the book and reinstall it or put your phone into airplane mode then turn it back off.

Usually that can be fixed by deleting the Layouts folder.

IPod mini doesn't play ANY songs!!! Please Help
My iPod mini doesn't play any songs. It doesn't play purchased music from the iTunes Music Store, ripped CDs, or ANYTHING. On the iPod I go to play a song but the music time counter remains on 0:00. When it does this faint sounds of the song trying to start can be heard, but then a lot of static comes up. A song did start once but it stoped at 7 seconds. I've tried the 5 Rs and everything I can think of! Please Help!

Hi. I am one of the very unhappy people who can't use the iPad for recording since getting ios7. The apple forum is replete with stories like mine: ios6 recording was quiet - ios7 is noisy. I have tried every suggestion. Why won't anybody at apple tell us what the problem is? I have been using macs since 1986. All I want to do is record my songs on my iPad. Unfortunately for me, I recently brought my iPad-mini refurbished so there is no warranty. If I had bought it new I would be at the Genius Bar until I got the problem fixed. Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter is not working. Please Help...
I bought an Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter to connect my Macbook to a TV using normal video cable. When I connect the cable, my Laptop DIsplay gives a flickr once and then it shows nothing. I checked Display in the system preference where I don't get a secondary monitor option. My TV is panasonic and it's an old one. I work on Final Cut Pro and it's very very important to see my videos on a TV. What am I doing wrong with the connection? Anyone Please Please help...
Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

Right now if I try to hold two keys at once the computer only listens to one of the key presses, and if I am trying to hold a key and release another key at the same time, it only responds to the release. Does anyone know how I can fix these problems
