Please help to (re)organize my library!

My iTunes library is a mess and I don't know how to (re)organize it.
First problem: my iTunes library (.xml and related files) are on my laptop data disk D:, i want to migrate it to my external harddisk I (Itunes).
Second problem: my music files should ALL be stored on the external hard disk I:, but when I consolidate the library it starts copying the files to D:, till that is full. How to get it ALL on external drive I: and to get rid of the unnecessary copies on D:?
Third problem: some time ago I have chosen the option File > Library > Organize Library > upgrade to iTunes Media Organization. As a confusing result PART of my files have been moved to a specific iTunes/MUSIC folder with subfolders-per-artist, but the rest of the artists have folders directly in the root iTunes/ folder. Some artists have folders in both sections - and the result is that in the iTunes grid they appear as two separate artists (with the same name). How to end this mess and put ALL music files in the iTunes/MUSIC subfolder?
Maybe the disorganized library is (partly) responsible for iTunes' very slow performance. Is there, by the way, a limit to the library's capacity? How many files/songs are the maximum? And what if you want/need more?

Copy the following library files & folder from their existing location to I:iTunes
*iTunes Library.itl*
*iTunes Library Extras.itdb*
*iTunes Library Genius.itdb*
sentinel
*Album Artwork* (and all subfolders)
+Ignore *iTunes (Music) Library.xml* as iTunes will rebuild this later.+
Create a folder called *I:\iTunes\iTunes Media* to hold the media.
Launch iTunes and *immediately press and continue to hold down the SHIFT key* until asked to create or choose a library. Naviagte to and open the library file at *I:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl*.
Select *Edit > Preferences > Advanced* and change the iTunes Media folder location to *I:\iTunes\iTunes Media*. Consolidate if propmted, otherwise use *File > Library > Organise Library > Consolidate Files*. If *File > Library > Organise Libary > Upgrade to iTunes Media organisation* is not greyed out, then tick the box to "repair" this option. (iTunes 9.2 "forgot" I'd already upgraded)
Clear up all the old copies of your files on C: & D:.
You want to end up with something like the right side of the image below with the library files at *<some path>\iTunes* and the media files (inside the red box) at *<some path>\iTunes\iTunes Media*. When organised like this you can connect the drive to a different machine, which might assign a different drive letter, and use the SHIFT-start iTunes method to open the library without it "breaking", i.e. it will still be able to play your files even though they may now be on a new path because the relative path from the library files to the media remains unchanged.

Please help. I have a macbook air and recently purchased the apple tv. I am looking for help on 2 things.
1- how do I create a new iTunes library on my external HD so that the movies I have purchased from iTunes can be stored there instead of on the hd of my MBA and I can free up the space on the MBA?
2- I have read on a few of the posts that there is a way to reconfigure the Apple TV to sync with that new library (on the external HD) instead of being linked with the MBA hd. But none of them gives steps needed to get this done. Can someone please help??

1. On the external HD create a new empty folder call it what you will (itunes new folder), then in itunes preferences/advanced change your 'itunes music folder location' by locating and selecting the new folder. Ensure that 'keep itunes...organised' and 'copy itunes....' check boxes are checked. Close preferences and then select file/library/consolidate library from your menu bar.
This will then copy your entire media collection to the new folder, once complete you can then trash the old itunes folder which by default should be at user/music/itunes/itunes music.
2. If you follow the steps above there should be no need to reconfigure the tv, it should continue to see the library in the same way as before.
Note.
You will no longer be able to play any media on the MBA or stream any content to the tv unless your ext HDD is attached.
It is possible to keep some content on the MBA so that you can access it and play it while on the go, this is fairly easy but not quite as easy as keeping your library in one place, let us know if you want to do this.

Please Help Me Find My Lost Library!

I have iPhoto 2 but I'm hoping someone can help me. I have an iBook G4 and I have had a lot of trouble with the libraries when they get full. I try to follow directions in Help but they don't make sense. At least today, I backed up my most recent library on a CD and at least have that because I have already lost the original. There are all of these folders with albums and different years but I am unable to pull up previous libraries. I can't believe there isn't an easier way to go back and forth between libraries. I have dragged a bunch of things to the trash that had nothing in them when I opened them but have not trashed them yet. I can't believe this has to be this difficult. I guess I tampered too much. Hi, thank you for your response. I will try your suggestion. I had two libraries. The one I just lost had 293 photos in it and I followed the instructions in the iPhoto help viewer, moving the library to another location and creating a new one. I tried to get it back and couldn't find it. At least I had burned it on a CD. The things I have in my Trash are things like Archive, Photo Library 2,3 and 4. I never had that many. Also there were 2 library folders that had 5 items in each and they were identical but whenever I go into a folder and click on an icon, it just brings up more pictures of folders with numbers on them. Maybe I need to find a Dummies book on iPhoto. I've had Macs for years but never had as much trouble as I've had with my laptopand iPhoto. The directions in the Help Viewer just don't make sense. I will get back to you after trying your suggestion. I have tried to bring back other libraries listed under Pictures in Finder but I get messages saying I need to create an application to open them. Please help - Firefox will not open. library - applications - and no firefox is listed to get to my profile manager. . What's next?

firefox has been running slower. When this happens I'll reboot my computer and this speeds up firefox. When I restarted the computer firefox would not open. Just the spinning wheel with no access to the tools.
After I force quit - it says ignore or notify/report to apple. I tried sending a report, and it ques up the box with details, system config, etc... but when I click on send - it will not let me send one - I've never been unable to send a report before.
I uninstalled, then reinstalled. Upon opening I get the spinning wheel and nothing happens - I need to force quit. I see on this mozilla help site that I need to update my profile manager. I followed these instructions - Finding your profile without opening Firefox Open Finder and go to your home folder. Note: your home folder is usually the name of your Mac user account From your home folder open /Library/, then /Application Support/, then /Firefox/, then /Profiles/. Your profile folder is within this folder. but when I got to library - application support - there is no firefox listed.

You can do a disk check with the chkdsk.exe program.
If you run the chkdsk.exe program from a cmd.exe Command window then you can read the response from the chkdsk.exe program.
Open a cmd.exe window:<br />
Start > Run: cmd.exe <press Enter>
At the command prompt (>) type or Copy&Paste: chkdsk.exe /f /r <press Enter> (put a space before /f and /r)
If you get something like: Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n then answer the question with "Y" and close all programs and reboot the computer.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

Please help "pull videos from Video library & play in my app"

Q1:I put videos in my ipad video library using itunes.I have it so the videos are pulled from the video library, once I click on the video it opens just not in my app but in the video library.
How do I get the videos to play on my app? not open and play in the video library?
Q2: When I place the videos in the ipads photo library it works but then I have a problem, The videos can be shared/emailed..I don't want the videos to be taken when the ipad is passed around to others. I could go this route if somehow I can encrypt the videos or keep them from being taken... any suggestions?
Note:
We are using NSURL class refrence...everything has to be local.. also this is for private use not going on app store

This may or may not work, but is worth a try.
Select the clip in the trash. Then click on the Gear box in the top area of the trash. See if it gives you the option to "Put Back". If so, that should do it.
If not, you still may be able to drag the clip back to the Event that it came from. Then restart iMovie.

Please, please help-can't sync music library

Hiyas. I made the dreaded switch from Mac back to PC today, and my ipod nano was Mac formatted. Before I plugged in my ipod, I downloaded itunes and authorized the new PC. When I plugged in my nano, itunes informed me I'd have to reformat to Windows and now my library is gone with all of my music with it. I just want to transfer all of my itunes purchased music to my ipod using itunes without having to use an external hard drive to do it. Is that possible at this point? Thank you so much!

This issue has nothing to do with manually managing or not. As mentioned, Windows can't read a Mac formatted iPod. Reformatting will delete content on an iPod whether or not you manually manage your music.

I have had the last straw with this software, since day 1 i have found it be alot of effort and hassle. Every time I run it, i dread what it's going to do next.
It just seems to randomly eat my music and I have no idea why. I can have songs that have been fine for months then one day when I try to play them in Itunes it just doesn't work, like it doesn't exist anymore. I delete them from the library and try to re-add them, but they don't even turn up. I drag drop them, Add new folder, I still get nothing. And naturally when i go to sync my ipod, it will take off the older, existing, still working ,songs...
I even tried starting with a brand new library, and for some reason im over 30 albums short... The thing is they all work outside of Itunes just fine(wmp, winamp), it's so bizzare.

Im currently working with a library i created in Indesign, here's the problem. When I open a certain document, and place an item in the document from the library, it uses a different font in the library item than what i created the library with. Example: I set all the itesm in the library to Helvetica Black, yet when I put i in the document, it sets it to ITC Stone Sans. This is very frustrating as I have to use many items from the library. Ive tried setting a default font for the document but that that didnt work, please help, thanks.

Text in a library carries with it an applied paragraph style. When you place such a library item into a document, then it all depends on whether or not the paragraph style in question already exists in the document.
If it does not, then the style is added to the document and the text is likely to stay in the same font as it originally used (I hedge a little because of the possibility of a change being introduced by a based-on relationship).
If it does exist in the document, then the text takes on the definition already in the document and loses that previous definition. This is most likely what is happening to you.

I cannot sync HD films purchased on iTunes (on my PC) to my iPad even though it is a shared account. No problem syncing to iPod Classic from PC.
Also there is no 'Film/Video' tag on the drop down menu on the iPad only Music and TV Programs.
Also can't view 'purchased films' on iTunes via iPad.
All Phtos,Music and Video etc is 'Manualy Sync' selected.

Most of my library consists of h.264 videos wrapped in the m4v format, which my converters (Handbrake & mkvtools) says is the Apple TV format. Today I tried coverting a few to mp4 (for iPad) instead, so that I can watch them on multiple devices, but I'm running into the same problem with those that you are.
I tried resetting my ATV as the other responder suggested, but that hasn't helped. I'm still unable to watch h.264 mp4 files, while h.264 m4v's are fine.

Please Help my iTunes10.1 (Windows7) problem

recently my C drive began to fill up so i uninstalled iTunes and redownloaded it to my D drive. Then I found out deleting itunes freed up only about 144mb so i went in to the itunes folders and coppied all of my apps and all that into my D drive where the new itunes is downloaded, but the problem is all my music librarys, music apps are missing, and/or not syncing.
I found my apps and just copied it into itunes but i cant seem to find my songs.
Please help my locate my itunes library.

Albums are not places to store photos, they're more like "labels" you can apply to photos to better organize them. A single image file can be in multiple albums... they are not copies, it's simply been labelled as being in all those albums. So what you're trying to do doesn't make sense, because it's based on incorrect assumptions.
The iPhoto library will always show all photos that you have added to iPhoto.

Please help to (re)organize my library!
