Please Help...Virus I think

I downloaded something that seemed a little fishy last night(my fault..my fiancee friend told her about it) and then immediatley deleted it but my computer was acting VERY funny after that. Things were running really slow, not opening at all and not allowing me to type. Well this morning I wss going to run disk utility but when I start my comp I must put in my passwrk which does not work anymore. I know it's right and tried it about 20 times but it won't work.
What should I do. I really appreciate any help here. Thanks.

Seems the developer has made this new build from the ground up and he's gonna quit now.
download and install, just replacing any previous version. Just agree to Warrenty it's only the dev protecting himself. be sure to follow instructions including installing contextual menu plugin, after
all that you need to log out and back in on the Mac. Finally, do go through it's preferences because it's pre set to delete infected files so set it to quarantine only and set anything else to your preference.
I set it to watch the /users folder.

Please help. I think I just bricked my own phone. Despite worries after reading all of the rpoblems people have had upgrading their iphone to Ios 6, I used iteunes to do this to my iPhone 4. (I upgraded to the latest itunes.) Now after 1.5 hours of everything seeming to work OK, all I have is an Itunes graphic on my phone and nothing going on any more in Itunes. The phone doesn't shut down normally or anything. Suggestions? Should I just do a restore operation? I did back up my apps and pics.

Thank you. I ended up performing the Restore after I did an Update, and performing the restore solved the problem----I now have a functioning iPhone with all of my data, pics, and apps on it. Fortunately I made sure that I backed up my iPhone before I tried to update to iOS6. Man, what a headache though, and it sounds like I had it easy compared to some other horror stories I've read. I won't update my iOS on my iPhone again; i've learned my lesson. It remains to be seen whether iOS6 will be worth it :-)

I always delete cookies and cache on exit. I use photon and puffin to watch flash player videos on tv series site with links such as put locker. I heard that there is no virus for the iPad but Trojans do exist.

Again, even Kaspersky doesn't say such things exist now, merely that they might.
Speculation about what might happen in the future or articles focusing on the Mac OS or Android are not terribly relevant. So, if you do have any other citiations, preferably from a source that doesn't derive most of is revenue from the companies it reviews, that document a virus or trojan that affects an unjailbroken iOS device, I would be interested. I have not been able to find any. I thought, perhaps, as a professional, you might know of some.

I'm really desparate for some help.
Directly after downloading Security Update 2007-006 my iMac G3 froze. It was switched off at the mains and since then won't get past the grey screen with the apple and the spinny thing.
I know very little about how computers work, troubleshooting etc so have spent hours searching the forum and the apple support pages, following which I have tried -
start in safe mode - no change
Boot from install disc and run disc utility. This appeared to be working but disc utility can't repair the drive and comes up with the following - 'Error - the underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)'.
So I decided to have a go at starting up in single user mode and use fsck. But to no avail, it starts up in single user mode but never gets as far as the command line prompt. The final 3 lines of text say -
'disk0s5: I/O error.
Load of /sbin/mach_init, errno 2, trying /etc/mach_init
Load of etc/mach_init failed, errno 2'
and the screen is frozen, no chance of typing any commands in.
So HELP please! What does it all mean? Is my hard drive dead? Can I do anything else to try to save it? Is there anyway I can retrieve the contents of the drive if it is dead?
Sorry this is so long, I thought it best to try to explain methodically what has happened. If anyone ot there can help I will be made up.

I've seen this error when the read/write arm on a hard drive becomes inoperative. It looks like you need a new drive. Don't buy anything larger than 120GB, and the 7200 RPM drives work fine. Drive replacement pictoral - Takeapart for swapping drives - slot load. When you get to the step that advises taking out the drive cage, you don't really have to do that. Just loosen the 4 drive hold-down screws and slide the drive out.
Unfortunately, anything on the old drive is gone. This is how we all learn to make backups.

Welcome to Discussons.
If you had any important data on your hard drive that was not backed up quit using your hard drive immediately so you don't overwrite data that you want to recover. To recover your data use disk recovery software such as, Data Rescue 3.
Only reinstall Snow Leopard after your data is safely recovered.
Once you are up and running again please report the post that got you into this pickle to save others from suffering the same fate.

Thanks for your time! I have been keeping very detailed notes day to day for the past seven plus years. Lately, I've done most of my entries right on my Laptop (Macbook Pro - OS 10.4.11.)
My Palm Tungsten T2 would NOT charge more than 1/4 of the way after many hours. I did a hard reset and wiped out all my data on the handheld.
When I went to Hot sync, it kept saying "identifying user." Then it would NOT sync. I played with the conduit settings - but had no luck making it work.
That's when I did something very foolish.
I set just the calendar conduit setting (the most important one to me) to:
"handheld over rides MacIntosh"
Bad idea.
Since the handheld was blank, it wiped out my Calendar on the laptop.
(Noooooo!!!!!)
Please tell me there is SOME kind of back-up of some sort.

If this is an iCloud calendar, and the calendar entries were still on your iPhone when you last backed it up to iCloud, it may be possible to restore them from the iCloud backup. Doing this is a bit tricky, and you'll have to follow the process outlined here to do so: Recovering deleted iCloud contacts from an iCloud backup. This was written as a process to restore contacts, but the process is the same for iCloud calendars (just substitute calendars for contacts).

Someone please help. I think I just messed something up really bad.

I wanted to change the name of my home folder so I proceeded to type this into the terminal wherein I wrote my old home folder name in place of "oldname" and my desired home folder name in place of "newshortname.": sudo mv /Users/oldname /Users/newshortname
I then logged out and logged back in to find my dock and background reset to the default, and most of my files missing (my applications remained because they are not stored in the home folder). I am extremely nervous that I just reset my computer, but I checked my disk utility app and it tells me that I have used
86.23 GB out of 319.21 total GB in my hard drive. Now, there is no way that I could have deleted all of the files in my home folder and still have around 85 GB of disk space used up. So my question is: how do I find my old home folder again so that I can access all of my files?

Go to system prefs and naviagte to accounts, then select your account and control click on that account, it should give you an advanced optiotn select it and point to your home folder in the home folder field.

I don't think you're on iOS 5, I think you're using iOS 6. That's the latest version.
Unless you've used iCloud to back up your documents, you won't be able to restore them. And for future reference, you don't have to uninstall Pages to update your iPad anymore. Sorry about this.

Internal Microphone not working for L505D-S5983 (PLEASE HELP!)

I can't seem to get my internal microphone to work. I have enabled it under Sound->Manage Audio Devices
->Recording tab. However the green vertical bar does not detect any voice. After setting the Microphone boost to +40dB, it detected some noise (since it has some green light) but I realized it wasn't detecting my voice. Since this did not work, I re-set the Microphone boost to only +10dB. I only have one internal microphone and no external microphone.
I have seen many postings on internal microphones not working on Toshiba laptops but couldn't find a solution to mine. Can someone please help? I think it's about time that Toshiba fix this issue after the countless complaints.

No mentions of reinstalling the sound driver. That sometimes turns on the microphone.

I don't think that debit cards are still accepted as a valid payment method - they are not listed on this page and there have been a number of posts recently about them being declined. If you don't have a credit card then are iTunes gift cards available in your country ? They are not available in all countries and they are country-specific (they can only be used in their country of issue), so you won't be able to use those from another country.

Problem with touch screen. Please help!!!

Ok I bought an iPad about a month ago now. At first it worked perfectly, runs apps smoothly, etc. But then something happened to the touch screen, it just randomly like pressed itself, it went into apps on its own and zoom in and out while on safari just randomly. For about 3 weeks this issue disappeared, but now it happens again but more constantly and for more time please help. OK...so it seems that many iPad owners have the same issue with the screen "self registering touches". You'll see multiple posts on the forums from "self touching" to "self registering" to "freaking out".
Well, I also have this annoying problem.
Trust me when I say that cleaning the screen, resets, charging, deleting apps, static, and so on haven't anything to do with causing or resolving this issue.
Here is a little tip to show you what is actually going on. Download a free app that shows you "screen touches". Harbor Master is one that I've heard of that led me to this...but I prefer to use that pocket pond app...only because I can just sit back and watch without having to move boats around.
...When you notice the problem, open up the app. I've noticed on mine that it only self registers touches along the side. Exact location is (when holding iPad in landscape position, home button on left) along the top of the screen...from top middle to the top right corner.
I have called Apple...the tech was polite and tried to help. ...But the only suggestions were to reset (as i've already done) then if that didn't work I was to do a reload while sync'd. He stated that if none of that worked then to take it to the store...
Since I am in Florida for the month and the nearest Apple store is 6hrs away...I will wait until I go back home HI and visit a store that is close by.

PLEASE HELP!! Applying transitions across many powerpoint slides

I have searched the forums, and Lisa Brenneis book, but cannot find an answer for this one.
I have a corporate film with lots of added powerpoint slides (dreadfully dull) and I just want to get this out as quickly as possible. I want to add a transition to the front of every slide (i.e each clip) but not to the base film itself, so that each slide fades in. There are 300 clips in total, so to do this in one go, rather than dragging individually will save me loads of time.
I have tried using the overwrite with transition and it doesn't work for this, and someone in the serach forum mentioned a button on the 'transition screen' but I have NO idea where that is??

I think I get it now, you have individual slides that you want to appear then disappear while a talking head babbles on continuously. The slides are not continuous but fade in then out as needed to illustrate the point.

So, you are looking for ways to add a fade in/fade out for each slide as an individual graphic in a batch process.
Are all the slides the same duration?
Rather than use a transition, you can do this using OPACITY.
-Place the slides in the V2 track of the timeline where you need them.
-Keyframe a fade in and a fade out on your first slide.
-Right click on the slide and select COPY
-Using the track select tool, select all the slides in V2.
-Right click and select PASTE ATTRIBUTES>OPACITY
-As long as the clips are the same length, they will fade in and out at the same rate.
-This could work as well with a few basic motion moves.

Lost 1st Mother's Day pics & videos, please help!

Please help! I think I have lost all of my 1st Mother's Day's pics and videos!
I received an iPhone 4 for Mother's Day, and the AT&T store was not able to transfer anything over. They stated that I would need to sync at home. I asked if I could go ahead and start using the phone, and they said yes.
Well several hours and lots of Mother's Day's videos and pics later, we arrived home, and I synced my new phone. Now, all the videos and pics are gone. Please say that there is a way that I can get those back? Or are they gone forever? Please say that I can get them back!

You should have imported them as you would from any digital camera.

If itunes backed up your iphone before it synced, then you could restore from backup and get your pics/vids. otherwise they are gone.
