PLEASE HELP!!!! WEP screwed me on WRT54GS

Can anyone do me a HUUGE Favour?
So I spent hours setting up my wireless network..  Then in my haste I set a WEP password to 128 bit, proceeded to type in a 10 key passphrase, generated, selected code 4, and pushed OK.  Next thing I know Im locked out....lawl.
So I think I messed up by using a passphrase that was not the standard size for 128 bit WEP.  Now I cant use the passphrase to access the network, AND, I dont have the WEP key.....
I know, I know...Everyone is gonna say "reset the router" but I dont have time to reconfigur EVERYTHING on my network for new settings.
So, back to the point of this thread,  Does anyoen here have a Linksys WRT54GS or something close,  A router that will have the same WEP generating algorithm???
If so can somone, anyone PLEASE generate the WEP code from this passphrase and post them for me so I can get back on my network...lol.
Please do not be offended by the passphrase, Its not a joke, or meant to offend.
This is the actuall passphrase used to generate the WEP key, and Im really hoping someone can help.
128 bit WEP
Passphrase is "f u c k u a l l 1 2" (no spaces) and number 4 was selected.
If Anyone could please generate the WEP key from this passphrase I would be forever grateful.
Thanks in advance for any tips for help.

Oh and if your wondering why I dont go to 192.168.1.1 and fix it myself,  I share a house with my brother, he owns the basement and is on vacation right now. (great timing right?)  he is computer illiterate, and only knows the passphrase (which obviously didnt help),  the router is hardwired down in his place, I wont be able to get down there for over a week till he gets back and Im hoping to get my internet back before then.  Im running to the Library to use email and internet at htis point and its driving me nuts.
Also Im thinking the passphrase might not be working due to a Linksys router and a Dlink adapter?  Because it wont allow me to use my 10 key passphrase, but says 5 or 13 ascii or 10 or 26 hex...... please help..lol

I know, I would....  Read the post again... I wont have access to the wired PC for over a week...lawl
It would be faster and easier if someone can genrate the WEP key for me from a linksys router with the correct algorithm, then I can just get access from here, and go onto the security settings and switch from WEP to WPA and never deal with this crap again.

  • PLEASE HELP i have trouble with WRT54G port forwarding with linksys

Hello guys, i play a game called populous, and since im on a router i cannot host the game, when i used to have a d-link all i would do is have to set up the port to my ip with the udp. but ever since i have swiched to linksys that doesnt work, the ip on my portforwaring is the same as the one on my computer the port is correct and the udp is set, i also have no fire walls on and it still doesnt make a differance, Someone in the game suggested that there is a local ip i need to get? is that true or is there another setting i need to set up in my router page?
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN <3<3 thanks

Yes that happens if you write replies to your own posts. Many regulars here only answer their "own" topics (i.e. to which they have answered before) and new ones which don't have replies, yet. If you write a reply to your own topic chances are your are not read unless during some random browsing...
Regarding your problem it is impossible to say anything unless you give the exact settings you have on your router. Please post the full settings you have for port forwardings, port triggering and DMZ. If you have UPnP forwarding in your router (I don't think you have) post those settings, too.
Otherwise I suggest this checklist for troubleshooting port forwardings.

  • Please help me: streaming with the wrt54g

    Hi
I got a wrt54g v 5. I have tried to stream web-TV at 800 kb/s from my internet connection of 3.5 Mbps. When I connect my computer straight to the modem by wire, the streaming works perfect. When I try to stream the same on the WLAN it freezes afther just some seconds. I have also tried to measure the speed with wire and wireless, and it gets the same result about 3.5 mbps. My computer is also the only one on the network.
Why does this happen? I have updated the firmware, tried different MTU values and also tried some other different things like turn of the cryptation, have the computer right beside the router and different wireless channels. It still freezes. I am starting to get frustrated.
So what can I do to get a 800 kbps stream to work with this 54 mbps wireless network??? Is it possible? Or is not the router good enought? If it don't work: ehy cant a router send a signal that is 60-70 times slower than 54 mbps?
(sorry about my english, I am norwegian)

54g is not really fast enough, but it can work if you use buffering(WMP or VLC), try something simple like running a batchfile which does a ping in a loop while streaming.
    Try also these settings:
    Beacon Interval: 50
    DTIM Interval: 1
    Fragmentation Threshold: 2307
    RTS Threshold: 2306

  • Connection problems with WRT54G Router PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Hello all,
Im having a huge issue and im hoping that someone can help me. Awhile ago i changed what i believe to be my router settings using 192.168.1.1 and i believe i added WEP secuirty. I changed my password i know that much. Anyway my problem is this - When i try connecting a router to my computer, i cannot access the internet OR the 192.168.1.1 setup. I just get a yellow caution sign on my wireless settings (running Windows 7), but when i connect my cable modem (Comcast) to my computer, i can access the internet. I have reset both the router and my cable modem MANY times (hard resets) and STILL cannot get the setup page for the router. I have TWO WRT54G rourters and BOTH do the same thing when connected to my desktop , yet BOTH work fine on an old machine running XP, so it is something i did with this computer. Can someone please help me solve this issue? any hlep would be appreciated as i am stumped and do not know how to fix this and cannot use WI-FI or my Xbox 360 until i can fix this..Thanks.

Check the IP address of your computer and see if it's in range with the router's IP.

  • Please Help With WRT54G Running WWW Server

Can someone please help me with a problem I am having setting up a WWW server?
I installed a wireless network in my home last week. I’ve spent days trying to configure the network so that I can run a WWW server on port 80. Right now I have it configured as two separate networks so I can access the WWW server on an additional roadrunner IP on PC1 that is the reason for the hub.
    PC1 wired to EFAH05W 5 port hub ---> Linksys LNE100TX network adapter
    PC2 wired to WRT54G ---> Linksys LNE100TX network adapter
    PC3 wired to WAP54G ---> Linksys LNE100TX network adapter
Mac note book wireless WAP54G ---> MacAirport
    Motorola SB 5100 Surfboard Modem ---> Linksys EFAH05W 5 port hub ---> Linksys WRT54G V 6.0 ---> Linksys WAP54G v3.01
I want to cancel the extra IP and remove the hub and still access the www server from outside my network! I want the WWW server to run on PC3 which is hard wired to the WAP54G.  I have all of the ports forwarded correctly and no firewalls! I can access all three computers on the private network with no problem and they all can access the internet but… When I go to the PC1 with the road runner IP I can’t I can’t access the WWW server running on PC3.
I have the WAP54G set as a client and the IP addresses begin at 192.168.1.100 and run through 192.168.1.105 wireless is on channel 6 and security is 128bit wep.
While I am here I might as well address another issue I have.  I up-graded the firmware on the WRT54G V 6.0 to v1.02.0 and now I cant get the WAP54G to work in repeater mode which seems to have been fixed by going back to v1.01.0 firmware  but I cant find v1.01.0 anywhere does anyone know where I can find it?
    I know I should have backed up the firmware but… I didn’t  !
    Thanks

Sorry, but the way you describe your network setup is hard to understand. It would be easier if you started from the internet connection and said how everything is wired/connected from there.
    "PC1 wired to EFAH05W 5 port hub ---> Linksys LNE100TX network adapter"
I suppose that means your PC1 has a LNX100TX which is wired to the EFA, etc... Because later you only have a "--->" and it does not say anymore if it is wired or wireless...
I guess the WAP is in repeater mode/WDS thus the WAP is connected wireless to the WRT and bridges to PC3.
It also seems to me as if you are running two DHCP servers: one on the WAP and one on the WRT. This is a bad idea as well. In a LAN you should run only a single DHCP server.
You also don't clear say how you are trying to access the web server. I suppose you enter your public IP address into your browser on a PC behind the WRT. You don't say exactly what is not working. You don't write exactly what error messages you get. If you enter the public IP address of the WRT router into your browser on a computer inside your LAN you will only get the web configuration page of the router. You cannot connect to a server port which is forwarded on the router. You must attempt the access from outside, i.e. the internet. Use an anonymizer service or a html validator for a quick glimpse what you can access from the internet.
Old firmware: look on ftp://ftp.linksys.com/ for old firmware version. The U.S. versions are in the directory /pub/network You must keep in mind that the v6 is compatible with the v5. The directory is a little bit a mess. It is tricky to find the files which are relevant. I found the following two.
    ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/WRT54Gv5_v1010_000.bin
    ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/wrt54gv5_v6_fw_1.00.9_US_code.zip

  • How to hook up a Linksys WRT54G to Motorola NVG589. PLEASE HELP!

Hello,  I have recently switched over to AT&T Uverse and I am loving it. One thing I miss is having extra ethernet ports to plug in my desktop computer and my Xbox 360. When the Uverse technician came in, he installed a Motorola NVG589 modem that also has a built in wireless router. He also installed a VAP2500 as a receiver for 2 wireless TV boxes. The VAP2500 plugs into the back of the Motorola NVG589. 3 other TV boxes are plugged into the back as well.  My dilemma is the fact that all of the ports are being taken up. I need at least 2 more ethernet ports free so I can hook up my Xbox 360 (my model doesn't have built in wifi) and my desktop computer as well.  I told the technician this when he installed the system and he told me to go on ebay and buy 2 cheap splitters and split 2 TV boxes that are coming into the NVG589. I did so. It didn't work out. I called up AT&T and the guy over the phone said that was the worst thing I could've done. He told be I should buy an ethernet switch.  I had my Linksys WRT54G (Version 6) router laying around at the time and realized that it had a built in ethernet switch. I want to get this to also function as another Wifi hotspot because I have an old PowerMac G4 downstairs that won't connect to the NVG589 for some reason (it says connection timeout). I am guessing that the wifi card in the system may be too old to connect to the modern NVG589.  So, I need the 2 extra ethernet ports and another Wifi hotspot from this setup. I have tried multiple things to get this to work.  The closest way I could get it to work was when I plugged an ethernet cable from the LAN port on the WRT54G to port on the back of the NVG589. I then plugged the TV box ethernet cable I had to disconnect into the second LAN port on the WRT54G as well as plugging my Xbox 360 into the 3rd LAN port and my computer into the 4th LAN port. This worked great for the TV box and the Xbox 360. However, the computer's ethernet connection ran very slow and the WIfi from the WRT54G was very slow as well. The Wifi from the NVG589 was slow too.  I unhooked that setup and put it back to what it was beforehand.  Is there anyone that knows of a flawless way of setting this up?  Any articles someone can link me to? I've heard of bridging the NVG589...would that help me? How exactly would I do that? Please HELP. I have attached pics. On the back of the NVG589 - green ethernet is the DSL cable, both white ethernet cables along with the black one are TV boxes and the yellow ethernet cable is the VAP 2500.  Thanks!

This will perform a "factory" reset. When the Linksys is fully rebooted, log in to the Linksys. Do not configure the "Internet Connection Type" on the Linksys. Navigate to the "Wireless" section on the Linksys and configure the wireless. Do not use the same SSID (wireless network name) that the NVG589 uses. Save changes. Navigate to the "LAN" configuration on the Linksys and set the routers address to 192.168.1.1 and disable the DHCP Server. Save changes. This step will kick you out of the router. Power down your computer and the Linksys, run an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on the NVG589 to a LAN port on the Linksys, then power up the Linksys, and when it's fully rebooted, power up your computer. You should be good to go at this point. You will want to individually configure your wireless devices to use either the wireless network from the NVG or the wireless network from the Linksys. Otherwise they make keep jumping back and forth between the two, which will degrade performance for that device. You may still notice a slight to moderate performance drop for the wireless on both the NVG and the Linksys because they will be competing for the same wireless airspace along with the VAP2500.

  • XBox 360 and WRT54GS no one can fix this. Please help if you can?

I'm totally out of ideas here and would appreciate it if someone could help me?  We have 2 XBox 360's both with the Microsoft XBox wireless adapters.  My son has had his since they first came out whatever year that was.  My youngest daughter got hers last October.  Both XBox's connect to XBox LIVE without a problem via a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router.  The problem we can't solve is - my oldest daughter and son-in-law live about a mile from us and they have an XBox 360. When we try to connect to their XBox (or anyone else that's local) to play against her and her husband, it won't connect and gives us a "Disconnected" prompt every time. They have no problem connecting to other XBox's locally but we, for some reason, can't.  I can connect our XBox directly into our cable modem bypassing the Linksys and it connects to them, so it isn't the cable modem.  I've changed settings on the router, internet, XBox with no luck.  I've updated the firmware.  I've read thru posts on the internet for weeks and now my brain is mush.  Is this fixable or do I need to buy a new wireless router?  Also, I don't know if this has anything to do with anything but we have 3 PC's and 3 DVR's also connected to the internet but are hard wired.  My kids and grandkids have DSi's, a Playststion3, and a Wii and those all connect via wireless and work great.  XBox has this WRT54GS listed as compatable.  I'm stumped.  I know there's some really sharp folks out there somewhere.......please help if you can?  Thanks for any help you could offer!

Have you opened the ports on the router....?
If not then, you need to open ports 53-3074 on the router..Read this link. Also, under the security tab on the router, uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...

  • My WRT54G suddenly stopped working please help.

Hi, i recently configured the security of the router, and then when i pressed the auto connect on the router it can no longer send a wireless signal... i tried to press the RESET button on the back, it should return it to the factory setting right? but when i connected it it wont give me good ip addresses it says limited or no connectivity, even if i manual set the ip. then try to access the home page it would not work.
i have some ideas how to fix this but i dont know if it is possible or not. :
1.) reset the router from a computer without accessing the page.
2.) go to a service center (if there is an available in the philippines...)
3.) overriding the firmware without accessing the page
please help, or else i would need to spend another 40-50$ for a new router T_T
i also tried to download the easylink firmware, or the easlink connect
but i get a 550 error when accessing the page, the online chat is no help either, they say i am on first queue but no one is answering :/

Hard reset your router for a minute...
Press and hold the reset button for 1 minute...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 1 minute and re-connect the power cable...Also make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP automatically, disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer before trying to access the setup page...Now check if you can access your router set-up...
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1...
If you get the above mentioned ip address and gateway then you should be able to re-configure your router...If you get an IP Address of 169.254, then reset the router again...If still you don't get the above mentione ip address and gateway then  you should give a static ip address on the computer...
Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1...Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...Now try to ping the Default Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press enter, see if you get 4 replies...If it does not then try to diable and security softwares/firewalls on your computer and try to ping it again, you should get 4 replies...
If you get the set-up page then you can configure your router...

  • Wrt54g and internal wireless adapter - please help

Okay, I'm new to this home networking so my lingo is non existence. I have a wrt54g wireless router.  Can I use this router with my labtop internal wireless adapter.  I assumed I could use this router w/out a modem or ISP, based on what the sales rep told me when I bought the router.  Patient and expertise would be greatly appreciated. Please help!!!!

When you sign up with your ISP, they will likely provide you with (or sell you) a modem.  Be sure you get a modem with an "ethernet port" (sometimes called a 10/100 port) on it.  If the modem only has a USB port, you will not be able to connect to it with that router.
Sometimes the ISP will give you the choice of a modem, a router-modem, or a wireless router-modem.  Since you already have a wireless router, all you need is a modem.

  • Please help! WRT54G problems

hi, i have internet access direct from my modem. we had set up a wireless wrt54g sometime ago in 2004 to share the connection with my laptops. we did not enable any security then and recently i was concerned about it and wanted to create my own SSID name (instead of linksys) with password, so i googled 'secure my wireless router' and then accessed 192.168.1.1 upon which it asked for the admin user and pass. typing in 'admin' and various combinations of the password it wasn't working so i assumed someone had changed it remotely. so i hit the reset button on the modem and after which was able to type admin and enter the setup page for the router. then i must have done something cause now my computer cannot access the internet with the router hooked up, but only with the modem. i restored the router to factory default in the set up page for the router, but still the internet is not working through the router. can someone please help me i'm not a computer whiz, but i know i must have toggled some settings and i can't afford to shell 35 bucks just to get help over the phone for some small tweaking! i can get internet access direct from my modem and i know the cables are in correct order. what happened?

Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the WAN Ip address .....
