Please help: Windows XP will not install PLEASE

I know this maybe answered else where but I have limited computer access at the time and ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated.
K8N Neo2 Platinum w/amd64 3500
1 gig of kingston mem
200 gb and a 60 gb Maxtor sata drives (non raid setup)
A cd burner and a dvd burner
I can post and boot to bios with no problems and everything shows up fine.
I insert Win xp pro cd and everything goes well and then all of a sudden it starts saying it can't find files on the cd while copying them onto the hard drive. I have tried several times and it always happens, sometimes different files. I have also tried an Win XP Home cd with the exact same results. The Win xp pro cd came with the SP2 on it.
I have tried many combos on my drives: installing on the 200gb, installing on the 60gb, unplugging one or the other, plugging in to sata 1/2 and sata3/4!!!! I have also reinstalled all the hardware again, checking each cable as I went along. I also reseated the cpu and cleaned thermal compound, but fresh on and hooked up fan (Zalman cnps7000a)
I HAVE NOT installed the raid drives when xp ask for the f6 thing. I don't want raid, just 2 drives.
PLEASE Any help will be greatly appreciate!!!!!
LoneStar

Hi. I just popped onto the forums to post a topic almost identical to this one, but with a few key differences - so I'd thought I'd stick it in here instead of taking up space.
Here's the gist of things -
My Dad and I recently built a PC over Christmas (well, he built, I watched and drank tea.), and it worked fine - half life 2 was downloaded and then completed. Now however, the problems have begun. (this isn't about half life 2, by the way.)
First, the specs - (I know these need more detail, such as PSU and voltages. I'll add those soon.)
MSI K8N Neo2 Nvidia nForce 3 Ultra Chipset motherboard
Athlon 64 Bit 3000+ CPU
1GB Corsair RAM
160 GB Sata Hard Drive
nVIDIA GeForec 6800 GT
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Bios V 1.3
Plus onboard sound, floppy/7-in-1 card reader and DVD/CD RW. I'll post the motherboard specs later, I'm at work at the moment and I can't remember them.
Right, down to business - I tried to connect and install an external wireless LAN card through a USB connection (I know this card works as it was used on my old PC) and to cut a long story short, I messed it up by using the wrong drivers - and I made things worse by trying to fix it in a hurry, basically screwing up windows. So, I'd thought I'd re-format the hard drive and re-install windows. It was a new PC, there was nothing important on it, and I thought it was about time I learnt how to do a format anyway.
Now the problem - despite formatting my hard drive (and thus removing the old, bad, copy of windows) Windows XP Home will now not complete its installation.
It gets through to the third part of the installation (i.e. my computer has rebooted twice so far) where it asks you questions like "Lets set up windows together" and "Lets choose your automatic update settings". Here, (and I've tried this formatting/reinstallatino twice) the PC reboots for no reason, and the standard "Your computer has restarted due to a failure" on a black screen with white writing pops up - offering to start normally, with last known good configuration or in safe mode.
Still with me? Phew, almost there...
Now, whatever I choose, the computer reboots again and then a BLUE screen with white writing pops up saying my computer was turned off in order to stop damage occuring. Here's a summary of the writing including what I thought were the important points:-
"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Disable bios memory options like caching or shadowing
STOP: 0x0000000D1 (0x00FFFFE3, 0x00000002, 0x0000000, 0xF7AD24EB)
Usbochi.sys-address F7AD24EB base at F7ACF000, Datestamp 41107d6"
Also, two more important points. When my dad was putting together the PC, we made changes to the bios, AFTER windows was installed. (Although I'm at work and haven't got them with me yet - I'll post them later.) This means these changes are still present - could they be causing the problem? (And hence would resetting the CMOS help?)
Secondly, I have a SATA hard drive. I've already tried using the SATA drivers from floppy during windows installation, but when I do this the same problem occurs, even earlier - this time windows doesn't even finish copying basic setup files. It jams on "cdaudio.sys" and then crashes to the blue screen.
Any suggestions or ideas you guys have would be of great help - I'm all out of them myself!
(Also, one more point - I conducted the format by changing the bios boot setting to boot from CD, then booting from the windows CD, then deleting the partition/formating the HD/re-installion windows in this manner.)
Remember - a big shiney hug for the first person to help me back to half life 2 goodness!
Cheers,
Spurros.
EDIT - the floppy I used to install the SATA drivers had nforce 3 SATA RAID driver (G72-NVSA020) written on it.

  • Windows Update will not install

Hi expert, recently I have restored the computer to the factory setting (windows 7 64 bits) since the virus destroyed my registry and I couldn't install the MSE. It seems everything is OK now.
But I have over 114 Windows updated files which cannot be installed. I tried updating the driver software from the device manager and trouble shoot  following the Microsoft Fix link. Then I manually updated these files. It first installed service pack 1 and it  seemed working, but it took forever to update one file. Then finally it finished and  restarted the windows. But it took forever to shut down. Then I turned off the power. After I turned it on again, the system showed Windows 7 Service Pack 1: Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes error and it went on and on without stop on the screen and never ended. I waited for a long time and finally the windows restarted  and it showed it had 114 files to be updated and it looked like they were updating. But when the updates was finished, I turned on the machine, the 114 files were still there, not a single file was installed.
Before Windows 7, when I format my drives, I only insert the bootable disk to the CD drive and then everything will be installed from CD when the machine is turned on. But when I insert the CD into the CD drive and turn on the windows 7 this time, the CD will not boot at all. Does it mean windows 7 does not need to use the bootable disk? We just restore to the factory setting instead. Do I have to format the c dive first and then restore to the factory setting? Please advise! Thank you!

    >Windows Cleanup seems to have done the trick, though before trying it I actually managed to install LR 2.0 beta with no problems. Anyway, since it's a windows system, anything can happen -- and frequently does!
But that is what happens; you may get an error trying to install one particular application while all others work perfectly well. The cleanup utility fixes the problems for that particular application and saves you doing registry edits etc.

If you do not have the "right Window Installer" you may need to download the latest version from Microsoft. You can find the revision of your current windows installer by looking of properties of Msiexec located in c:\windows\system32. My version is 3.1.4000.1823.

  • Help! Itunes will not install because it cannot access and HKEY

    Error reads as follows:
    Coult not open key:
HkeyLOCALMACHINES\software\classes\QuicktimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApp\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
I ran regedit and found that this Hkey does not exist in the registry.
I just bought this Nano. Why won't Apple help me with the install. At this point I feel like taking this piece of junk back to the store and buying a piece of hardware that is not dependent on a piece of software that cannot even be installed.

    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • Lightroom 1.4.1 Windows update will not install

I have made numerous attempts to install the Lightroom 1.4.1 update filename LTRM_WWEFG_WIN_1_4_1.exe on my computer running Lightroom 1.3.1 under Windows XP SP2. All appears to go well until a window pops up instructing me to insert the disc with Adobe_Lightroom.msi on it as it cannot be found.
Earlier in the process, the progress indicator shows this file being extracted and in any case, I am not installing from disc but from the downloaded updater. I did try inserting my original version 1 CD-ROM, but the .msi file on that is rejected as invalid.
A thorough search of the hard disc at each attempt shows Adobe_lightroom.msi under c:\documents and settings\user\temp, but pointing the installer there produces a similar error message that the file is invalid for this product!
What do I try next? I had no trouble on previous upgrades (I bypassed 1.4), so why should this one keep failing? The Adobe error messages and prompts are less than helpful to say the least. I thought this update was supposed to have sorted out the version 1.4 fiasco!

  • Windows 8 will not install via bootcamp. Please Help!

Hello everyone. So I have a mid 2012 MBP with an ssd and then the hdd in the optical dirve's place. Im trying to bootcamp windows on my hdd. Ive created the partition for it via bootcamp (200gb). And for my install im using the windows 8 system builder disc i bought, in the super drive that came out of my mbp. Now the error im getting is that windows  "cannot create new partition or locate current one". Ive already formatted to NTFS. I even tried formatting the enitre hdd via cmd but sitll get the error no matter what. I read somewhere that its because I  have a usb plugged in. The issue is I have to since I no longer have the optical drive installed. Does anyone know how to get around this error or is my only option to reinstall my optical drive and install windows and then take it back out? I hope not because there is no way i will be doing that. Please help me. Thank You.

    1) Try connecting to a different USB port
    2) Try installing via USB flash drive. After you're finished creating the image, make sure to unplug your superdrive from the USB port and the only connected USB device is the flash drive. See below for instructions:

  • Windows 8 will not install itunes 11.1.3. Why?

I am currently trying to install itunes on my new laptop and it give me the error message, " This app can't run on your pc." I have downloaded the Windows 8 64 bit version 3 times and they all don't work. I have gone to 'My Computer' > 'Properties'  to see that I have Windows 8 64 bit. I have not idea what to do at this point. Please Help. Thank you.

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Windows installer will not install ITunes 7 or Quick Time

I previously ran iTunes 4 with an earlier model iPod. Recently upgraded to iPod for video which was not recognized by iTunes 4. Attempted to download updated iTunes software and continue to be unsuccessful. Here's what happens:
I am able to download both iTunes 7 and QuickTime to my hard drive, but when invoke the respecive .exe files I get the same error message which reads, "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I have never heard of the respecive.exe file in regards to itunes or ipod. Are you sure you followed the troubleshooting steps word for word? I've had some people read the follow, "Empty your temp folder contents" to mean delete the temp folder. You have to be careful to follow them closely. I still sometimes have to reread some steps only to find out I didn't read it correctly the first time.
With that said, how do you know its a windows installer problem? If you were installing itunes & QT using their standalone installers there won't be a file called respecive.exe for either. You should be launching itunessetup.exe to install itunes (which can possibly contain QT). I forget what the standalone QT installer is called but I know it isn't respecive.exe.
Here are the steps I suggest to people who have trouble installing itunes. Please read them over first and ask a question if something isn't clear.
    1. Uninstall itunes and ipod software
    2. Reboot your PC
    3. Re-download the itunes installer and QT and save this installer to your desktop
    4. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations. You should see folders like {06EB3288-C5F4-4C73-8EEE-AC798668FF66}
    5. Look in each of these folders for itunes.msi and delete the folder. Be careful to only delete the folders containing itunes, msi
    6. Clean out your temp folders, Delete as much as you can in these folders except for the folders Cookies, History, Temporary Internet Files.
    a. C:\windows\temp (if one exists)
    b. C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
Sometimes installers will pick up old files or won’t delete their temporary files.
    7. Go to http://www.download.com/3000-2094-881470.html and download the regcleaner. Unpack it and run it. This is a nice utility that will delete broken registry entries and create a file with them. This way if it deletes anything needed you can add it back. Note I never had to do this with using it for many years. Also it doesn't list XP but you'll be fine. I run XP on both.
    8. Reboot your PC.
    9. Now try to go and install everything again. I'd do QT first then follow with itunes. Remember to disable virus/firewall/privacy/web accelerators before launching the install.

When I press a key to continue it just gives me awhite screen with Toshiba written in bottom right hand corner.
I have tried to start windows and press F8 so I can go back to factory settings, but it doesn't offer me a restore option. Please can anyone help ?

Im afraid something is screwed up. I recommend you to bring it back to your local dealer and ask for replacement.

system will post, but when I try to install WinXP home get stalled in BSOD after drivers load. right when it is loading Windows
I have tried 4 different types of ram ( as i have been told that most of these issues are ram related) most recently kingston  kvr400x64c3ak2 512mb.  I have 2 but have only installed in socket 1 until i get some sort of stability. this ram is listed as tested to work on this motherboard and was cheap therefore the reason for purchase.
Ram times are set to auto.  I have been able to install Win 98  on the machine, but that is obviously not a legitimate operating system for this machine.  All input is wellcome thanx.

    Hafdef,
1- Which slots have you got your RAM sticks into?
2- What is their SPD settings and OEM recommended voltages?
3- Are you nanually setting them in the Cell menu?
4- Confirm that your old IDE HD has its jumpers set properly and confirm cable connections?
5- How i& where is your CD or DVD connected? (ideally your Hard drive should be master on Primary and your CD or DVD master on Secondary)
If this yield nothing try loading Windows with "2T" selected in BIOS Cell menu? If this does not work Keeep 2T and remove one stick of RAM to see if this will help.
Also what method are you using to load your Windows system? (Master CD SP XX then SP updated or a combined installed)
    Good luck,
