Please help with backing up library
OK, this has maybe been addressed before but I'm new here and haven't really found an answer on the forums... My work is saved as monthly projects and I want to export them to an external HD with metadata and adjustments etc but retain a referenced version in my library on my mac. Make sense? If I need to get anything back I can do a quick search and plug in the HD - yes? Trouble is if I export the project as-is I can't reimport referenced files... This is maybe my poor working practice and I'd really appreciate some help with it. I've previously just exported versions then burned DVD's but I'd really like to keep a record of pics on the mac if poss. HELP PLEASE!

You don't need to export you can do it from within Aperture, see *File->Relocate Master*.
Again check out the user manual Apple did a real good job with this one.
And PLEASE, PLEASE, make a complete backup of your Aperture library before trying any of this we are not responsible for lost, missing or mutilated photos

Can someone PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I am at my wits end with this. I have an Iphone 3GS with softare 3.1.3 . I am trying to back up my contacts/calendar/apps so I can download the newer software version 5 and so I can get a new Iphone 4S.
As I have window 7, when I sync my device. It chooses to sync Contacts to 'Windows Contacts' and Calendar to 'Outlook' and Bookmarks to 'Internet Explorer' and Notes to 'Outlook'
I do not use Outlook but have it on this laptop. However when I looked at it to find my iphone calendar and notes, they are not there.
Also I cannot locate my Contacts anywhere on my laptop
They are not in Users/(username)/ apps
as I dont have a folder under user name that is called Apps!
Any help would be much appreciated from anyone

Please Help with backing up before I commit suicide
I have an MBA and just bought Time Capsule thought it would be good idea to back up my research studies and to store my important files. I have a BT Home Hub which is connected to the TC by Ethernet. It started backing up but the process was interupted many times. One time the MBA got frozen. The other time it quitted unexpeditely. I have 36.67GB and the highest data backed up was 656MB and the backing up was interrupted. I Left it overnights to back up but without anu success and it seems everytime resume backing up it starts from the scratch not from where it stopped. I have connected my MBA to the TC by Ethernet but the Ethernet ligh in the TC is off. I want to get this **** to back up my MBA as I stored one important file in it and I had to reset it and the file was not saved properly.
I m loosing my temper with this so called TC. I have erased it and i want to start from the scratch and see how it will go.
I want adives on the best quikest way to have it backup my MBA and then after finishing backup I want to set it up to use the maximum of it.
I have in the house 4 laptops including my MBA and I want to access it while away.
Please help!!
As I speak it started backing up and now it is 1.7MB out of 36.67GBI am sorry to hear about your trouble. There are so many of us who have been trying very hard to get this device to work with no resolve. I too am in that boat,and I have a tremendous amount of time to work on it. There does not seem to be a way past these simple little error screens that pop up after a 12-14 hour backup,or preparing for 5 hours,or stopping at the very end saying something like backing up 136mb of 136mb,and that runs for endless hours with no backup. Seems to be some pretty common issues but know one seems to know how to fix us. It is broken.It was broken out of the box as far as backups go. Seems to work very well as a wireless router and space heater but backups not a chance it seems as of right now,I wouldn't trust even if it did backup,sure as shootin' we would see the error screens on the other end then!

Please help with backing up and updating on Lacie external HD

This is my first time to use an external HD. I am mainly using it to back up photos, music, bookmarks, fonts, address book and movies. Once I get everything on the external hd, how does one go about updating periodically? Do I have to manually update every category? There isn't a way that you can tell the computer to update the files is there? I have heard from some people that you can schedule updates. The Lacie website or user guide has no info on updating!

Nice going. Backing up is the best thing you can do for your data. I suggest that you make a bootable clone of your entire HDD rather than backing up individual files. In that way you will have a current backup, as well as an emergency boot drive and you can boot from the external drive and run diagnosics and repairs on your internal HDD.
First you need to format your HDD. It it is larger than you internal HDD, I suggest that you partition it so that the first partition is approximately the size of your internal HDD, and the other partition you can use for whatever. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Backup and Recovery has excellent tips on backup. He uses Retrospect, which I have found difficult to use. As suggested by the previous poster, SuperDuper and Carbon Copy Cloner are the cloning utilities of choice. There are differences, but the main difference which impacts you immediately is that to be able to make regular updates of your clone you will need to register SuperDuper ($28), while Carbon Copy Cloner is donation ware.
Here are step by step directions for formatting and partitioning your extnernal HDD:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing an External HDD
• Connect external HDD to computer
• Turn on external HDD
• Start up computer and log in
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and launch DU.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select Partition tab in main panel.
• Select number of partitions in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
For more partitions than one, after you have selected the number of partitions adjust the size of the partition by selecting the top partition and typing in the size; then move down if more adjustments need to be made.
(See Dr. Smoke’s FAQ Backup and Recovery for tips on partitioning external HDD)
• Type in name in Name field (HD Backup, or whatever you want to call it)
• Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
• Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
• Select Erase tab
• Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID
• Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
• Click Erase button
• Repeat above procedure to erase each partition
• Quit Disk Utility.
Once you have formatted your HDD, now you are ready to clone your internal HDD to it.
Creating a Clone using Carbon Copy Cloner
• Connect external HDD to computer
• Download and launch Carbon Copy Cloner
• Select a Source. This will normally be the Disk which you want to backup
• If you wish to backup/clone only your Users Folder or other folder click on the checkbox. If you want to copy the entire HDD, check Macintosh HD.
• Select a Target. This will normally be your external HDD, (or, if you so decide, you can backup/clone to a Disk Image on the external HDD.)
• Cloning Options: for the first time you should backup everything. For updating your backup you should select Incremental backup of selected items.
• If you want your clone to be an exact copy of the original you should check the box to Delete items not on the original.
• Click Clone
Clone Old HDD to new HDD using SuperDuper
• Format external HDD (see directions above)
• Connect external HDD to computer
• Download and launch SuperDuper
• In the Copy field select your internal HDD
• To is your newly formatted external HDD
• Using backup all files
• Click Options button
• Check Repair Disk Permissions on Source
• During copy Erase Destination HDD then copy from Source
• On successful completion Quit SuperDuper

I have a 12 inch power book, and I just bought an 80 gig external hard drive. I have to send in my PB for repair this week, and want to back up to the drive. I can't seem to find my OSX disk anywhre. Is there anyway to create a bootable disk with out that? (I didn't know if there was some way to just transfer the entire hard disk from my pb to the external disk) I would like to have everything over on the external disk in case my pb comes back with a formated hard drive. Can anyone give me some good ways to do this. I would love to find a way to boot off of the external drive and use it just like I use my power book while it is being repaired. Then when I get my PB book, i'll dump everything back over the PB off of the external hard drive.

If your external is a FireWire drive then it will be very easy. Simply use either SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your internal drive.
In step-by-step form the process is as follows:
1. Plug in the FW drive (as it's your first attempt, it's best if you make sure the drive is empty, so erase it if necessary).
2. Run SD! or CCC.
3. Select your PowerBook's internal drive as the source and the external FW drive as the destination.
4. In CCC make sure you choose the options to Repair Permissions and making the clone bootable. In SD! just choose the "Erase... then copy" function along with the "Repair Permissions" option. It may also be beneficial to select the "Reboot from..." option (this will enable you to test the clone afterwards).
5. Start the clone.
6. Once completed, test the clone by restarting from it (as mentioned previously, SD! has an option to do this).

How can I sync my iPhone on a different computer without erasing my applications? My iPhone was earlier synced with a PC which I don't use anymore.
On the new computer, I am getting a message that my all purchases would be deleted if I sync it with new iTunes library.

Am using Photoshop Elements 8 and trying to make a slideshow. Have tried 4 times now and keep ending up with same problem, cannot reopen project to continue edititing. Won't show up in orginizer and when I find on harddrive and try to open get message " wmv file cannot be opened". How can I save a

You need to save the slideshow project in order to be able to go back later and make changes or additions to an existing slideshow . The wmv file is a final output format.
Now you are most probably using only the Output command: that is what makes the wmv file.
You should also do the Save Project command. (and I make it a practice to do the Save Project command before I do the Output command).
If you look at the Elements Organizer 8 Help, there is a topic on "Create a slide show".
-- Very close to the beginning of that topic is a screen shot of the Sldie Show Editor screen,
-- The bar below the usual menu bar is labeled with a "B" and called the Shortcuts bar.
-- The 1st entry on that Shortcuts bar is "Save Project"
It is the Save Project command that saves the information about which photos, audio, etc you placed in that specific slide show so that you can come back again to do subsequent editing. Save each Project with a unique name.
After completing the Save Project command, you shoud see an "icon" in the Organizer for that slide show.
Note: you must also keep the photo files and audio files which you have used in this slide show: you can't delete them because the project file does NOT contain a copy of the photos, it only has the identification and folder location of the photo and audio files.

I switched over from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S3 & I haven't been able to receive any text messages from iPhones. I have no problem sending the text messages but I'm not receivng any from iPhones at all. It has been about a week now that I'm having this problem. I've already tried fixing it myself and I also went into the sprint store, they tried everything as well. My last option was to contact Apple directly. Please help with turning my iMessage completely off so that I can receive my texts.
If you registered your iPhone with Apple using a support profile, try going to https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do and unregistering it. Also, try changing the password associated with the Apple ID that you were using for iMessage.

PowerPC refers to the processing chip used by Apple before they transferred to Intel chips. They are very different, and applications written only for PPC Macs cannot work on a Mac running Lion.
You could contact the developers to see if they have an updated version in the pipeline. -

1-Run the uml2etl.etl transformation with the supplied launch configuration.
2-Open lqn.model.
There are two folders inside MinimalExample folder, the one which is called MinimalExample has 4 files, model.uml , lqn.model, uml2lqn.etl and MinimalExampleTransformation.launch.
The other folder which is LQN has four files. (.project),LQN.emf,LQN.ecore and untitled.model which is an example model conforming to the LQN metamodel to see how the model looks like.
