Please help with choosing the right text component

Hello,
In my applet, I need a single-line text component with the following capabilities:
1: Support for bold font (entire text, not just part of it)
2: Support for underlined text (entire text, not just part of it)
3: Support for blinking text
4: Ability to put caret anywhere within the text field with mouse
5: Support for field validation
6: Ability to handle various key events and modify the text and/or move around caret position accordingly.
Now, I know there are at least 4 different text components: JTextField, JTextArea, JEditorPane, JTextPane. Which one of these is most suitable for the above features? Is it possible to use JTextField to support all of the above?

Here is a link to the Java Swing tutorial which discusses the text components.
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/text.html
I think you need to use a JEditorPane or a JTextPane (although I'm not sure any of the components support blinking text). A demo program shows some of the capabilities of these components:

  • Help with choosing the right specifications for a Macbook Pro Retina?

    Opinions needed....
So I'm new to Macs, but I know what I want to achieve and I feel this is the right route to choose. I'm looking at delving into the world of music production, using Logic pro 9 and garageband, but I also enjoy watching High definition Movies and televison so I know that the Retina display is definatley the right choice for me. However, I'm unsure on the amount of RAM & Which processer I should choose. I have read a fair bit on forums and online about the new retina macbooks being 'locked' from upgrading, so the 16GB of RAM is an immediate choice for logetivity.
The choice of processor is when I start to become clouded in my choice. As forementioned, I'm looking at running logic pro, as well as high def movies. There is also a possibilty at looking into photo and video editing, Whether that be in final cut pro or photoshop... But I want to leave my options open.
I think the choice of 16GB of RAM, 2.6Ghz processor, with a 256GB hard drive ( as i have 1.5TB external space) would be a good choice. Once I've added on applecare that comes out at around £2350, Which is a significant investment, but one that I think will help me immensely for the future. I am interested in other peoples opinions on my possible choice because, as I said before, I'm new to the world of Macs and making the right choice is essential. As a side note, the choice of upgrades also ensures a reasonable resale value, which is a bonus.
    Regards

Both power adapter I have are different (at the magnet end) from the one in link.
Earlier adapters have T shaped connectors, which Apple later changed to the L shape, presumably to make them more abuse-proof. Either one is fine and the one you are using will not damage your Mac.
Retina MBPs and new MBAs use a completely different MagSafe 2 connector which will not fit (without an adapter).

  • Help with choosing the right hardware

    Hello,
I would like to know what hardware sollutions from NI are best suited for my Master's degree project, which is a motorized crane for a video camera (basically a robotic arm with 5 axes). What I need is something to control my 5 motors (DC/stepper) - both in position and velocity and also need some Digital inputs available for different sensors. In my previous project, I have succesfully built a motorized slider for camera (only 3 axes - 2 rcservo for pan/tilt and a DC motor for translation which was controlled in position) and I used Arduino development board to control it, encountering difficulties for controlling my entire system. In this upgraded version of the crane, I thought that NI hardware are more reliable, and I want to find something to match my application requirements. I just need something to control my motors using Labview, as I will make my own drivers for them (also something affordable for a student as the motion control modules are way out my bugdet).
On the other hand, I would also like to control my system from a smartphone and I was wondering why Labview has implemented applications for Android and Apple, but not Windows Phone? Are there policy issues or just not yet implemented? If not, I would gladly develop an application for WindowsPhone8, as it would help me remotly control my crane.
    Thank you in advance,

    Hello Catalin,
There are a few options that are available for this application, I'll start with the simplest hardware with the most difficult software and then progress from there.
The simplest implementation that I can think of would be a high channel count digital I/O device, where you power a custom H-Bridge or similar motor driving circuit. Based on a 6 or 4 pole stepper motor this would translate to 20-30 digital channels. Something as small as a NI USB-6504 (24-ch, 8.5mA) would work with very low performance. This implementation would only have software timed digital output with a significant amount of jitter and variability, as well as the 8.5mA max current drive per channel which would require extremely high input impedance on the drive circuit.
The next step up in implementation would be a digital I/O device with Hardware timing such as a NI PCIe-6321 or a NI PCIe-6323. These cards will allow a buffered digital output which will significantly reduce jitter and increase the performance of this control.
Both of the above methods would require you to program the motion control for the stepper motors, and would also require an external drive for providing the power to the stepper. This could be something as simple as a custom built H-Bridge, a simple stepper motor driver such as this one available from sparkfun.com: Big Easy Driver.
The next option would be using the motion modules such as a NI 9501 or a system built by following the NI Stepper Motion System Selection Guide. This would be the most complicated hardware, however this would enable you to use the National Instruments SoftMotion Module for programming instead of writing all the code from scratch.
In regards to the implementation for LabVIEW implementation for Windows Phone, I am unsure of whether this will or will not be implemented. Please feel free to post your ideas on implementation on the NI Idea Exchange, and thanks for the feedback!

Which one of  the  above  3  models  is  the best ?  What are the known problems with any of these models?

as long as your project is <60min, iDVD will create best quality technically possible (=using the highest bit-rate, 9MBit/s) standards allow .
it is not a prob of the tool, but the standards. your source is 1920x1080, a DVD can contain only 720x480 ..
if you want 'higher' delivery-quality, consider BluRay (hmmm?) or a MediaPlayer (AppleTV, WD TV, PS3, .. )

  • Help With Choosing The Technology

    Hello,
I need help in choosing the appropriate technology for the application that I'm going to be creating.
The characteristics of the system that have been decided until now:
Standalone app built on either Flex/Flash/AIR
Restricted to using the system on a single computer, hence can be a tightly coupled system
The server component of the system needs to be closed source and robust, for which im thinking something like a Java backend, etc, etc.
In a completely new environment, all that i need to be able to do is install just the AIR application and not worry about installing extra stuff for the server support.
Thanks In Advance for anyone who can help me out with this.

If you are saying you want the server component to be on the same machine as the Flex app, then your choices are severely limited due to the sandbox, unless of course you are using AIR, then you can just use the SQLite database.
But if there will be a sevrer component on another machine on the web, you could use BlazeDS, and like I said, its free and very robust.

  • Please help; is iPhoto the right organization solution across devices?

This question covers more than just iPhoto, so I truly hope I am in the right spot. I'm asking in this forum, because it will help me make the decision as whether or not to buy iPhoto.
    Here's is my situation.
    I have an
    iPhone 4
    New iPad
    Mac mini
    camera.
The Mac Mini, for photo purposes, is used as storage. I simply dump photos from the iPhone or iPad when needed. All devices are updated through the Mac Mini.
I take photos mainly with my camera and iPhone. iPhone photos connect to the iPad through photo stream. Camera photos through the camera connection kit.
I do all of my editing on my iPad with Snapspeed. The iPad is my daily "computer".
I now have several questions/issues I'm trying to overcome.
I am wondering if I download iPhoto will that enable me to do the following:
    1) Move camera roll and photo stream photos from the iPad into IPhoto on the iPad permanently?
    2) After said photos are in iPhoto, may I delete the "originals" from the iPad or iPhones camera roll or photo stream without loosing them in iPhoto? My goal here is to keep my camera rolls with as few photos as possible.
    3) Is it possible if I download iPhoto to the iPad to wirelessly sync all of these albums onto the Mac Mini, since it is esentially my permanent storage spot?
    4) I already have iPhoto installed on the Mac Mini, but its honestly a cluster! If the above is possible will the organization I employ on iPad (albums, etc) carry over to the Mac Mini; or will I be reorganizing constantly?
    5) Will it be possible to edit in Snapspeed then move that edit into IPhoto? Is there a way of doing this other than editing it in Snapspeed, saving to camera roll, moving camera roll photo to iPhoto?
    6) On the other hand, will it be possible to take a photo from iPhoto and push it "back out" to the camera roll, photo stream, Snapspeed, etc?
As you can see, my reasoning for these questions is my brain seems to work in this very quirky way when it comes to all these IOS devices. I have a hard time scrolling through hundreds of photos on the camera roll. The photo stream often confuses me as to what is in there and which device it came from. I can never tell if I have to save it, delete it or when it will disappear.
If I used my Mac Mini daily, I would simply organize each session of photos into different albums. Editing each as I wish.
I am trying to accomplish this using my iPad as my "main computer", with the additional hope that with all of this fancy, cloud, photo stream stuff that I can turn on any of my 3 Mac devices and see, edit, use the same things with minimal use of wiring devices together.
I sincerely appreciate anyone who has suggestions or can help me. I am a first time user to this, but have often used the information here to solve other issues I've had. Apologies again if this is posted in the incorrect space. I am thankful for the helpfulness of this community!

You might be able to make your time dropdown more condense by putting all your availabe time in one dropdown
    For example :https://adobeformscentral.com/?f=932b00UZyOXpKY6yIrBX2w
FormsCentral doesn't support table in the fillable form. Like you discovered you would need to create the form outside of FormsCentral as a PDF and then import it into FormsCentral if you want that type of form design.
What you can do in FormsCentral though is use show and hide logic to add rows in your form
    For example : https://adobeformscentral.com/?f=4XaXHYfSMaumC9mGH6EHAg

  • Please help with script for right-mouse click on 3D objects

    Hi!
I have PDF file with two simple 3d objects (for example with two cube).
I need to make script that when user right-click to first cube, a PDF file (c:\a.pdf) opening (or c:\b.pdf for second one) in new windows. How to make it? Thank you so much!

    Hi,
please check SDK sample 22 Right-Click, there is everything you need.
First catch RightClickEvent, then create the menu entry when beforeAction = true, and when beforeAction = false you have to remove it again (otherwise you will receive an error when rightclicking again).

  • Please help with: WARNING: The user_dump_dest init.ora parameter has been d

    Hi gurus,
I have been getting this warning for a while but I can't find a way to get rid of it.
    Fri Apr 08 10:29:04 2011
WARNING: The user_dump_dest init.ora parameter has been deprecated.
WARNING: Please remove the user_dump_dest parameter from the init.ora file.
WARNING: The diagnostic_dest init.ora parameter now determines the location of the diagnostic data
WARNING: The new location for the user logs and traces is c:\oracle\diag\rdbms\orcl\orcl\trace
I looked at the init.ora and init_SID.ora file and the pfile but I do not see this parameter. The only places I see this parameter user_dump_dest is through the show parameter user_dump_dest is SQL*Plus and the EM Initialization Parameters, and they both show c:\oracle\diag\rdbms\orcl\orcl\trace.
Please help me fix this warning.
    Thank you!
    Ben

Starting in Oracle11g we not longer have many of the original OFA file system structures and we see that the ancient dump destination init.ora parms (core_dump_dest, background_dump_dest, user_dump_dest) are placed by a single diagnostic_dest parameter, the place to go when Oracle wants to take a dump.
You can use the new initialization parameter diagnostic_dest to specify an alternative location for the diag directory contents.
As of Oracle Database 11g Release 1, the diagnostics for each database instance are located in a dedicated directory, which can be specified through the DIAGNOSTIC_DEST initialization parameter. The structure of the directory specified by DIAGNOSTIC_DEST is as follows:
    <diagnostic_dest>/diag/rdbms/<dbname>/<instname>
This location is known as the Automatic Diagnostic Repository (ADR) Home. For example, if the database name is proddb and the instance name is proddb1, the ADR home directory would be <diagnostic_dest>/diag/rdbms/proddb/proddb1.
The following files are located under the ADR home directory:
Trace files - located in subdirectory <adr-home>/trace
Alert logs - located in subdirectory <adr-home>/alert. In addition, the alert.log file is now in XML format, which conforms to the Oracle ARB logging standard.
Core files - located in the subdirectory <adr-home>/cdumd
Incident files - the occurrence of each serious error (for example, ORA-600, ORA-1578, ORA-7445) causes an incident to be created. Each incident is assigned an ID and dumping for each incident (error stack, call stack, block dumps, and so on) is stored in its own file, separated from process trace files. Incident dump files are located in <adr-home>/incident/<incdir#>. You can find the incident dump file location inside the process trace file.

  • Making a website to help with choosing the colour of a bike - please help me :D

Hello I am trying to make a website where you can take
conponents of a bike and change their colour
there are about 17 conponents that I want to be able to
change the colour of e.g. frame colour and seat colour.
    and I want to have 10 - 20 colours
the number of combinations would be huge, so to have that
many pictures, with a link to each is probs not the best solution
    by far.
I was planning on having a more interaction site, where when
a colour or conponent is selected, it changes in front of you - any
ideas how I could do this?
prehaps a simple solution would be to have a range of
buttons, that when selected display a different coloured conponent
    - how do I make a button that when pressed reveals say a coloured
box and doesnt dissapear when the mouse is moved away from the
button - is this the hit feature? if so how do I make it work!?
    Any help would be fantastic
    Simon

    Simon :
The best way you can do it, is firs, to prepare several
colors of the same bike : you achieve this changing the
Hue/Saturation properties in photoshop, so you are going to create,
as an example, 7 different colors (the main colors) you have in
    stock.
Then you create independent Movieclips for each one, this
won't load too much your memory since you can make independent
SWF's which are going to be called on pressing the "color button"
using the "LoadMovie" actionscript property. Remember, when you
create the button, you just create small squares orange, blue, red,
yellow, green, etc etc.. so when you click on them, the color they
show is the color that will call the bike.
You have a good example here on using LoadMovie, there are
    even more googling around :
    http://www.cristalab.com/tutoriales/152/galeria-de-imagenes-en-flash-con-loadmovie.html
P.D.: There is another way, to try to apply colors with
Actionscript, but forget about it, because since the bike pictures
have shadows and shiny parts, this "filling color" way is not going
to fit well. I justed wanted to mention this, I wouldn't try this
    way...

  • Help me choose the right black for a background (white text on black BG)!

    Hi all!
I am polishing an InDesign document for a magazine. The cover will contain a big black surface with white texts on top (alongside a white surface with black texts/graphics on top and there is also a color bar on top of the black surface.)
I was warned that standard black will not work for the black background and I was advised to produce a 'cyan black' or a '4 colour black' instead.
The cover of the magazine will most likely be like a book cover: fairly thick white cardboard/paper with a coated job.
What exact color choice would you recommend knowing that the text color will be 'paper white'.
I now have this Pantone Black C (from the Pantone solid coated library): would it be good for this job? And what about the other black text and graphic elements on the white surface? Should they be from the same black?
I was hoping for the most straight forward and saff answere to this question as soon as  possible.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!
    Best.
    Nic

    I agree with Bob.
Generally, I do ask the printer. But usually I set up a rich black with 50% cyan and 100% black.
Adding more than Cyan to the Black can cause misregisteration issues, usually I stick to a 2 colour build for the Rich Black when knocking out White Text.
If your printer suggests differently then use what they have asked.
A few general rules of thumb:
Don't use thin serif fonts below 10pt - as the serifs have a chance of filling in.
Use a slightly bolder version of the font if one is available.
    Increase the kerning slightly.
Point size and and typeface is key to setting reversed out type. A font with thick hairlines will not break up as easily as one with thin hairlines. Italics tend to be problematic as in they can break up more easily than roman faces. Increasing the kerning here is vital as it prevents letters from joining up unintentionally.
When talking with the printers - let them know what type size and what font you're planning to use and if it will cause any issues with the print quality.

  • Help on choosing the right Bluetooth Device

This isn't troubleshooting, but I really am in a stuck of which bluetooth headset I should get after looking at many options. I need help deciding which bluetooth headset to get that will be a perfect match for both my new iPhone (3G) and 80GB PS3. I've looked into the Jabra BT5010, Plantronics' Voyager 815, 520, 855, and Discovery 665 as well, which is absolutely genius (short from its rubbish 3.5 hour battery life for the former mentioned Plantronics device). I think I've narrowed it down to those two (BT5010 and 665), but I am open to new recommendations if you lot have any. I partly don't know what I am talking about because all this is new with me even the ps3 and iphone, which will come 11 July. Here are my thoughts:
Multipoint, good voice/sound quality, and battery life are the three key factors in decision making for me, but with the 665 I will make a battery life an exception, since it is sacrificed for superior sound quality (also without MP). Furthermore, is Multipoint really necessary between a PS3 and iPhone? I didn't think it was vital but just a leisure feature. The BT5010 has 10 hours of battery life along with multipoint I believe and fair quality so I plan on going with that one for compatibility reasons for the PS3. Please advise. Cheers!
P.S. If I had the money I'd by the 665 for my iPhone (I don't talk THAT much) and the BT5010 for the PS3. Also, I looked at Aliph's Jawbone, is that any good for what it's worth?

am customizing an HP Pavilion dv7t quad edition notebook PC.
I have a few choices to make. Money is not really a problem, but I don't really want to spend an extra $150 if the difference for the price is utterly minimal. I would really appreciate you reviewing my current selections and determining whether or not I should upgrade or downgrade them, where applicable. Also, I would really appreciate you answering any questions found throughout my post. Thank you so much.
    I want my laptop to:
    1) Run RuneScape with no lag (except for lag from the game itself)
    2) Load webpages and programs extremely fast, and maintain the performance as the computer gets older.
    3) I do not want my laptop to overheat. My current dv7t from 2009 becomes so hot every time I use it that I cannot let it touch my skin or it will hurt badly.
    4) Have a beautiful graphics display
    5) Be physically appealing. My scale is: The Samsung Series 9 is considered beautiful, the Alienware is considered hideous
With these requirements in mind, please tell me whether or not you think my proposed laptop is a good choice. Also feel free to tell me about any other laptops that you think might work well for me. (PS: would the Samsung Series 9 be able to handle Runescape? Thanks!)

    Hi,
For computers/laptops, nothing is perfect. You always can find a better one tomorrow. Depending on what do you need/want you can buy a suitable laptop for TODAY.
    2. Processor: 2670QM should be fine
    3. Graphics: stick with 6770M
    5. HDD: I prefer 7200rpm HDD, in theory should be faster
    6. 6 or 6 cells is ok, again depending how long you use the machine w/o power point nearby
    7. It depends but I prefer full HD (1920 x 1080)
    8. I would buy BD/DVD combo as mentioed in the specs
    9. No choice anyway
    10. BT (Bluetooth) is a technology which allows you to transmit and receive wirelessly over a short distance (I really don't know how far it can go but my phone only works within around 10 meters). You can use it for a BT mouse, keyboard, phone ... Please read more information from this:
