Please help with Text Manipulation
I am trying to display text in a fixed frame in Reports 9i.
Example:
Assuming Fixed Display Text Area in Report = 5 lines x 100 characters
Text field in database has capacity of 4000 characters(which is free form text entered by user and can contain tabs/carriage return etc)
How do I read from the database text field to display only the text that would fit in the fixed frame on the report. And I need to display the remaining text in the subsequent pages of the report.
Ideally 5 lines of text would mean 500 characters, but this can vary based on existence of tab spaces or carriage returns.

I see the ^M on the end of the lines ... but i dont understand why im getting the blank lines
in between each entry ... I printed "HHHH" just to help with debugging ... anyone have any ideas why i am getting the extra blank lines?

jdmaybe its a FileReader deal.. Im not sure, maybe try using InputStreams. This code works for me (it reads from data.txt), give it a try and see if it works:

New to After Effects - need help with text manipulation!
Hi all, I'm new to AE and this forum and I'm looking for some advice. I've been asked by the boss at work to create a short video clip, around 10-15 seconds, where text is displayed on the screen (3 words), after the few seconds, I want a 'forging' noise to happen and the final word in the text to be changed to another word and have a metallic effect applied, similar to the effect in this tutorial:

Will this be difficult to do and do you guys think a complete beginner like myself can do it? I've got a lot of experience with the likes of PS, so I'm not too shy with Adobe software.

As you begin your career of using AE, you will change your vocabulary. Overlay will be replaced with spatial references like in front or behind.
Designing text with surface styles like chrome or metal is not difficult. You can even import them from Photoshop if you have some PS chops or friends who can do it quickly.
TEXT ONE can be easily replaced with TEXT TWO in any of dozens of different ways but to drop TWO in front of ONE is easy, you're just setting position keyframes. The finesse of animation, though, lies in the illusion of motion, exaggeration, overshooting and recoil. Your TWO could fall and squish and rebound and bounce or it could raise a dust cloud as it hits or it could make the camera wiggle. These are the things that separate simple key framing from animation and motion graphics. -
Can somebody help me wit hmy problem. I have a fom with many tables in it, some cells of the table are text boxes or at least they were when I developed it. Now I need to edit some of the cells and for some reason I cannot do it as the cell is not a text box but became (untitled<draw>) I cannot change its type back to text. Can some one advise what to do whitouh retyping text again in the new cell.

I have a preference for Javascript (just get in the syntax zone) and use it for most things (except dates).
As you know:
this = current object
rawValue = accesses the value of object
From an Excel point of view FormCalc is similar and has inbuilt function like sum(), Max(), etc. Syntax is $ for current object and you don't need the rawValue. This is very handy when summing a column in a repeating table. Also FormCalc is excellent for working with time and dates. (not that you can't work around in Javascript, but it is heavier).
Adobe have a very good reference for FormCalc at http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_formCalc_82 and I would recommend that to you. I think it comes from the LC help file, but is easier to use.
From a performance point of view, you can either have FormCalc in the calculate event of an object, which looks back at other fields (this will fire each time one of these fields changes). Alternatively you can have the FormCalc in the exit event of a field, which pushes a calculation/value forward to another object.
Functions are handy if you have a script that you are using several times in a form. You write the script in a "script variable" and then call it in the objects events. HOWEVER, script variables are available in Javascript only.
One last thing is that if you have a constant (like VAT), then rather than including "* 0.21" in all of your calculations, use a global variable in the Form / Properties / Variables tab. currentVat = 0.21. Then in your calculations would be "* currentVat.value". If the VAT rate changes then you only have to change it in one location.
In summary FormCalc is more akin to Excel; just watch the syntax.

I am new to photoshop. While going through one of the basic video tutorials, I came to the section where is says to add text. I followed instructions, but can't see what I type. My cursor looks different than the one in the video when I click into the layer with the text tool too. I have a small square dot. The video shows a normal text cursor, as you'd find in Illustrator.
If I type something and click enter, it replaces the name of the layer, but is still not visible in the image. The layer displays as a text layer. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I have the newest software, im seriously irritated with the fill in text. Everyday I use the word shiit, minus the extra I. and it allways wants to put the words shut or shot. I dont think ive EVER even used those words. this has gone on ever since I updated months ago. Is there any way to stop it from doing this? it drives me nuts!

Try this (it looks insane, but works).
Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards > Add New Keyboard > select Japanese Ten Key and add.
Back out of Settings and go back to General > Keyboard > (you will now see a new choice) Edit User Dictionary > "+" > Word > type in that word > Save
You now will be able to use that word using the English keyboard without correction. Why this hidden feature requires enabling a Japanese dictionary (and only Japanese) is a question only Apple can answer...

I am creating a form. I have a text field where the person will type a number into text field and I need it to also enter in another text field. For example, the person enters 23 into text field 12, I also need the entry of text field 12 to show up in text field 63. Is this possible? I'm VERY new to this, so a step by step response would be greatly appreciated!

DebbyThis requires a script as you have to first verify that the denominator is not blank or zero, or you'll get an invalid operation.
Something like this should work as the custom calculation script of your field:

I switched over from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S3 & I haven't been able to receive any text messages from iPhones. I have no problem sending the text messages but I'm not receivng any from iPhones at all. It has been about a week now that I'm having this problem. I've already tried fixing it myself and I also went into the sprint store, they tried everything as well. My last option was to contact Apple directly. Please help with turning my iMessage completely off so that I can receive my texts.
If you registered your iPhone with Apple using a support profile, try going to https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do and unregistering it. Also, try changing the password associated with the Apple ID that you were using for iMessage.

My "fn" button is stuck on only revealing mission control in Lion. With this problem none of my "f" keys will work nor can I hold "fn" and delete to delete text in opposite direction. Can someone please help with this?

How can I sync my iPhone on a different computer without erasing my applications? My iPhone was earlier synced with a PC which I don't use anymore.

PowerPC refers to the processing chip used by Apple before they transferred to Intel chips. They are very different, and applications written only for PPC Macs cannot work on a Mac running Lion.
You could contact the developers to see if they have an updated version in the pipeline. -

-Now In the ETL file, I can find the stereotype property of extOpDemand as follows :
s.attribute.selectOne(a|a.name="extOpDemand") , where s is a variable of type Stereotype.
-However I can't access the value 2.7 of the extOpDemand attribute of the <<PaStep>> Stereotype. How do I do that ?

There are two folders inside MinimalExample folder, the one which is called MinimalExample has 4 files, model.uml , lqn.model, uml2lqn.etl and MinimalExampleTransformation.launch.
The other folder which is LQN has four files. (.project),LQN.emf,LQN.ecore and untitled.model which is an example model conforming to the LQN metamodel to see how the model looks like.
