'Please install a web browser' message

I'm trying to see how badly the WebHelp function will mangle
my Frame doc but can't get beyond this message when I try to
compile. I have plenty of web browsers; how do I get RoboHelp to
recognise them?
Thanks,
Simon

Try these two posts. Both confirm my thinking but maybe it is
in the detail of the configuration. The solution seems to have
worked before.

  • Please install a web browser error when generating htm documents

    Hello,
I have looked through the forums and did find some ideas to try to fix this issue but none have worked so far. One idea was to go into the Windows folder options and make sure that htm and html files are assoiciated with Internet Explorer. I looked into this and IE was already set as the default application to open htm/html files. Just for grins I looked in the control panel's program access and defaults and confirmed the primary web browser was also set to IE.
    A bit of background...
Windows XP pro machine, with RH 8. Also, using IE 8 with the lastest updates applied. Also, I can generate other smaller RH projects from this PC and other PCs can generate the project I'm having trouble with. So I am fairly certain the problem is not the PC or the project in question. A Windows problem maybe??
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    -Wagstaff

    Hello again
Odd that it failed to work for you. Seems it's worked for all others in the past but there's always a time when a magick cure won't, eh?
What you posted gives me pause to wonder if you understood what I suggested. You seem to have simply performed a test using a notepad document. What I suggested was to re-associate .HTM files so that when you double-clicked them to open, Notepad opened instead of the browser.
One thing I neglected to mention was that you should probably close RoboHelp before doing the unassociate/reassociate hokey pokey. RoboHelp has places in the registry too.

  • Error msg:  Please intall a Web browser

Every time I try to compile my project I get a msg box that
says "Please install a web browser." I use RH x5 and have several
Web Help projects that suddenly will not let me generate. I, of
course, have Internet Explorer and also AOL browsers installed and
working. What has changed? I recently was asked by Adobe to
"re-activate" my RoboHelp software and did so.

    Hi again
Who knows for sure about most of these things!
Perhaps it was the phase of the moon, the angle you were
pressing your tongue against your cheek, etc.
Personally, I'll blame it on sun spots! Yeah, sun spots!

  • One or more PDF documents are open inside a web browser - message

    Hi,
I have a new L series notebook and its great. The only foible I can think of is a message I keep getting when I try to shutdown. There is a message box that says "One or more PDF documents are open inside a web browser. If you exit adobe reader now, those documents will be closed. Are you sure you want to exit?".
The thing is I do not have any PDF's or web browsers open at the time! Can you help me please?
    Thanks, Mark.

    Hi Mark
Believe me its nothing serious the same happens on my notebook from time to time
Usually the PDF files can be read with the Adobe Acrobat reader. This application service runs in the OS background and this message can appears if the Adobe Acrobat reader cannot close the background process automatically
I have solved this tiny problem by removing the acrobat reader from the system. After new reboot I have reinstalled it again
Now the message does not appear and all runs like a dream ;)

  • About install netscape6 web browser

    Hi,fine:
    I already install netscape 6 on my solaris 7 for x86 system.But
I open web browser appear "hot java"browser through CDE environment.
Now I hope my web browser is netscape 6 browser .Please tell me
    how to to it.
    Thank again.

Make sure the command "netscape" can be found in your $PATH.
When you click on the "Web-Browser" icon, CDE runs the shell
script /usr/dt/bin/sdtwebclient to start the web browser. This
script searches your $PATH for the commands "netscape", "sdthotjava"
and "hotjave". The scripts starts the first one it finds.

Thank you for your help.  Another questions.  For a small business firm of 10 computers what would you suggest the best server.  We now are all pc's but eventually I want to upgrade to Apple.  I currently have the Small Business Server.
Sorry to say that Apple isn't the best choice in that department as they are primarily a consumer products company, they don't cater to business needs with their offerings.
Phill Scheiler actually said they are interested in the 50% share of the consumer market.
Apple has discontinued their X-Server and now OS X server is really just a hobbyist pursuit, not a serious business solution. The Mac Pro hasn't been updated in ages.
Mac's can be used on Windows, Unix and Linux servers, but on that side of things it's best to use the services of a local server technician. Linux costs nothing for the licenses and is very secure and highly configurable.
You also can go Red Hat Linux which is a commercial  version of Linux which requires licenses, but you get the better security and reliability plus business support.
All I can suggest is evaluate your local offerings from many of those type local server business services in you area and go from there. You'll likely be a mixed shop for quite some time or perhaps forever as some won't give up Windows like some won't give up their Mac's.
Also Mac's are not very cost effective anymore, Apple changes the operating system annually which require new software/paid upgrades, Windows 7 will last another decade and offer desktop models that parts can be exchangesd or replaced in house, unlike Mac's which one has to bring it in and AppleCare expires in three years.
So buisnesss and profit speaking Windows is pretty good, but if your like Google who has a big bank account then replacing Mac's every couple of years is nothing.

  • Create WebHelp asks to install web browser

When I attempt to create a Web Help project in RH 6 I get a
message that instructs me to install a web browser (Internet
Explorer or Netscape). Obviously, I already have IE 7 installed as
well as Firefox. I tried uninstalling RH and reinstalling it - same
result. I'm not sure, but this may be the first time I have tried
to generate a Web help project since upgrading to RH 6 from RH X5.
    This is a serious problem.

    Hi Bob
I think the fix for this is pretty simple. You simply close
RoboHelp, then configure Internet Explorer as your default browser
for Windows. Don't howl, you can still use whatever browser you
like. You then start RoboHelp and gen WebHelp. After you do this,
close RoboHelp and reset your browser to your desired default.

  • When I start mozilla firefox web browser, sometimes I see a message saying that "a Mozilla Firefox is already running, please close it or restart your program", while I don't have one running at that time. What is the problem?

When I start mozilla firefox web browser, sometimes I see a message saying that "a Mozilla Firefox is already running, please close it or restart your system". As a matter of fact, there is no firefox browser running at that time. Since I cannot do anything about it, I have to restart my computer before I can use the web browser, which bothers me dearly. What is the problem?

Plug-in and tasks started by Firefox may continue after attempting to close Firefox. The "X" in the upper right-hand corner closes the Window (same as Ctrl+Shift+W) but even if it is the last Firefox window, it does not necessarily close Firefox .
'''The only proper way to exit Firefox is to use Exit through the File menu''', not the "X" in the upper right corner of last Firefox window.
''Menus hidden: then use Alt+F then X.''

Use the '''Windows Task Manger''' to remove all running firefox.exe in the "Processes"
tab of the Windows Task Manager, then restart Firefox.
"'''Restartless Restart'''" extension for Firefox 4.0 only (2 KB download )
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/249342/
use to close and restart Firefox after enabling or disabling an extension, switching
to a new theme, or modifying configuration files, then you don't have to worry
about delay or have to look in the Task Manager to see if Firefox is closed yet.
Uses keyboard shortcut "'''Ctrl+Alt+R'''" or a file menu option.
'''Windows 7''' users can use '''Ctrl+Shift+Esc''' to get to the Windows Task Manager quicker than starting with Ctrl+Alt+Del.

I am unable to open a PDF file in Firefox 3.6.8. Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3.3 is installed. I get the error message "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser."

You can get that error if there is still an old Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
