  • How do I set Adobe Flash Player as the default program to open SWF files?

    Basic Overview
I have this working fine at my home laptop, however I need this working for projects at school.
Whenever I want to open an SWF file at home, I simply double click it and open it in Adobe Flash Player (Adobe Flash Player 10.0 r22) and I have no problems!
However, when I am at school I have to run SWF files within Internet Explorer, Adobe Flash Player IS installed, but the SWF files are not opened in that directly, they are opened within Internet Explorer.
    At Home
If I right click an SWF file at home and select "Open With" and then "Choose Default Program...", Adobe Flash Player is already there under the name 'Adobe Flash Player 10.0 r22', so I can simply select it as the default. (On my home laptop)
    At School
At school if go to "Open With" and then "Choose Default Program...", Adobe Flash Player IS NOT there, only Internet Explorer and some other programs in the other programs box. (On my school laptop)
    Question
How can I assign Adobe Flash Player as the default program for opening SWF files (on my school laptop)? If I select "Browse..." and go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\Macromed\Flash there is no file with a description of 'Adobe Flash Player 10.0 r22', is the file for the actual program located somewhere else or have I just no looked properly in the folder?
I really need these files opening in Adobe Flash Player directly and not in Internet Explorer (I know you can set the view to 100% and have it sized correctly)
Thanks you to everyone who helps!
-Charlie! (Yes I know I don't need to write this in a forum)

The standard Flash Player is a browser add-on, and not a standalone player.  So what actually opens when you open an SWF file at home?  Flash Player Projector?
If so, you also need to download it at your school, from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, then do the file association.

  • I have been unable to upgrade adobe flash player software.

I am using a recently purchase MacBook Air running Yosemite 10.10.1. Upon receiving a warning that I needed to upgrade Adobe Flash Player Software, I down loaded  and installed the latest version several times. I still, however, continue to receive the "Need to Upgrade" message when trying to view online videos.

A genuine alert that Flash is outdated and blocked is shown on this page. Follow the instructions on the page in that case. Otherwise, the alert is fake and someone is trying to scam you into installing malware. If you see fake update alerts on more than one website, ask for instructions.

  • I am using XP-SP3 & Firfox.  When installing Flash Player Software i get a message: "This Publisher has been blocked from running software on this machine". How do i unblock it - HELP.

I am using XP-SP3 & Firefox.  When installing Flash Player Software i get a message: "This Publisher has been blocked from running software on this machine". How do i unblock it - HELP.

    Hi,
This is a security setting on your system that is resulting in this behaviour, not Flash Player installer itself, or anything with the installer.  There are many Google search results on this.  The first hit I got, was the following from the Microsoft forums:
    To unblock a software publisher:
    1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
    2. Go to the Content tab, Look under the Certificates section.
    3. Click on Publishers button.
    4. Select the Untrusted Publishers tab.
    5. Select the Publisher you wish to unblock and click the Remove button.

  • Can you install the needed Flash Player software onto a thumb drive?

I have a large desktop that needs the new Flash Player. However, I am in the country with only dialup. I can take my laptop to the library for fast Internet. Is it possible to download the needed flash player software onto a thumb drive and then transfer that to the desktop. I've downloaded the install file but it gives me no location choice when it begins the install. Working with windows 7 on both machines.
    Thanks

    Hi Ellen,
Yes, you can save the offline version of Flash Player onto a thumb drive and then copy/move it to a computer to install it.  The version downloaded from get.adobe.com/flashplayer is what we refer to the online installer.  It's a shim installer that then downloads and installs Flash Player silently.  The offline installers are posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows page in the 'Still having problems' section.  There are various installers for various browsers.  You'll want to download the file(s) corresponding with the browser(rs) you use.

  • Flash Player Installer downloads from the Adobe distribution site as a generic file without an extension and the file won't open.

    Hi, everyone.
When I download Flash Player Installer from the Adobe distribution site Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe the file downloads to my hard drive as a generic file with no extension, and Windows can't determine which program to use in order to open/play the file. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Is there something wrong with the downloaded file? Or am I missing required software?
    Thank you for your time,
    -Brandon

Yes, I've never had a problem before. I've even downloaded the Flash Player Install files from the Adobe distribution site on multiple occasions in the past without issue. The only thing I could think of is that perhaps the ".exe" extension was left off to avoid triggering security measures on a computer or private network that would prevent the download.
Anyway, it worked after I added the ".exe" extension to the filename, so I have no complaints!

    Hi Prat,
We are aware of this issue and are working on a fix.  In the mean time, please use the offline installer, posted at the bottom of the help page corresponding with your OS and browser:

  • I have tried to update flash player and when I put in my password, it is rejected.  I have recently updated my email address and changed my password, but adobe will not accept.  Can I get help, please, to update flash player?

I have tried to update flash player and when I put in my password, it is rejected.  I have changed my email and password and have so informed adobe, but I am still unable to install flash player update.  How can I update adobe flash?

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.

  • What flash player software is good for use with the Apple Mini?

I get "flash player missing" warning on news sites when I go to available videos. What can I do? I have a 2015 Apple Mini iOS 10 with 500 GB hard disc

There are no active reference viri in the wild for any of the hard-sold antivirus
applications to remove from the Mac OS X. You can use ClamXAV from its
maker's site (no other, as some are bad copies loaded with adware or malware)
here:    http://www.clamxav.com/   that can help isolate and remove items that
you may get from someone's email who owns a windows PC, if you do not want
to forward those to some of your friends who use windows.
A larger concern may be adware and some kinds of malware, they are avoidable
but unless you are zealous about how you use your computer gear online, it may
be possible to get several items that can make using your Mac seem nightmarish.
Here are a few links to information that are best glossed-over before an issue so
you may have an idea what you may be up against when or if you do get adware
or some other malcontent from browsing corrupted web sites. Oh, also avoid the
torrent or bitorrent sites that offer file sharing or 'free downloads' that you later will
pay for one way or another. These can be tainted with badware that starts out in
a web browser, or perhaps if you get a bad copy from corrupted download online
of a known software but not from the maker's site (such as a copy of Flash, but
not from Adobe's own site) these can be a lot of work to undo their bad effects.

For Adobe Flash, which is not installed in OS X anymore, you could get it, or see
what else may be helpful to use to see video file content. I don't use it and feel
that if there is some great need to see a video (most are like trash) the better ones
now use HTML5 or some other technologies that just work in the browser w/o Flash.
If you need Flash be careful and keep the OS X updated and be sure to get Adobe
updates for their product. Some of their products are OK, but some are bloatware.
The links I posted on how to get the Adobe Flash (adobe help pages) are ones to
note. There are other items in their site which may or may not be helpful to you.

If your ordered Mini has at least 8GB RAM (it would be soldered in as part of the logic
board, and so not upgradable; unlike certain former builds that allowed user upgrade)
and if it has an Apple Fusion or SSD Drive, or a hard disk drive with 7200-RPM spin
rate, then it would like be quick enough going forward a few years. More random access
memory (RAM) is separate from drive storage or system hard drive capacity; these do
different things. A computer may temporarily use storage capacity as virtual RAM, but
it would be limited by hard drive data rate speeds, that are much slower than chip RAM.
A Fusion or hybrid, or SSD (solid state drive) can speed up the system since the files
that would end up being written to that drive and then read as temporary RAM, would
be moved in faster speed, so your computer function would be noticably faster. A stock
Mac Mini with hard disk drive generally has a slower 5400-RPM rotational hard drive.
This is slower than a Fusion hybrid and much slower than an SSD. The latter is more
costly than the other choices. A fair option if it exists, is a 7200-RPM hard drive, of up
to 1TB capacity, if available as a built-to-order option from Apple when ordered direct.
(An authorized Apple service provider could upgrade the storage drives with suitable
product replacement, and not void the AppleCare warranty; an upgrade at that point
may or may not be covered under an extended (optional) AppleCare plan.
If you ordered your Apple Mini mac from online Apple Store, you have certain time
limits to return it; and depending on which country or region you live in, the rules may
be different. In the US, you have 14 days from when you get it, to change your mind
and notify Apple. If you do not notify Apple (they will authorize a return before you can
ship it back or before you could return it to an official Apple Store in person) the time
limit goes away and you then are the owner of the item. So you do have a limit if you
bought from Apple directly, online or from the official Apple Store. If you do return an
item to Apple you bought direct from them, you could call on the 13th day, providing the
day you call to start the return process is a business day & not weekend or holiday, and
that may allow you a few more days to physically return the computer to them. If you
were to return to the Apple Store online (via fedex or acceptable parcel delivery with
tracking) be sure to check to see exactly when you would need to get it back to Apple.
{If bought direct from Apple & not an authorized independent reseller, be sure to ask
    Apple sales when or if you have any issue; returns or pre-arrival, they can be helpful.}
And if you are not in the US or Canada, there still may be 14 days return, if bought via
the official Apple Store (retail location) or from the online Apple Store. This isn't available
through authorized resellers who set their own sales return policies as independent agents.
Anyway, hopefully your new Mini has sufficient upgrade to work well with Yosemite and
whatever applications you may need to load into it; some can be top-heavy in demand
of resources. That's why one has to consider the purpose prior to buying a configuration.
    Hopefully this helps you somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Help, please, installing new Flash Player

I have an iMac widescreen Mac OS X version 10.6.8.
I have downloaded and installed the new Flash Player five times, but still get 'Blocked Plug-in' over and over, even on the Adobe site.  What next, please?

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
If you are using Safari :
    Click on Safari -> Preferences
Under Security Tab, make sure "Allow all other plug-ins" is checked.

  • Shame on you Flash Player software team at Adobe

    Hello,
    Crash crash crash...
    Again and again...
Whatever it's version... whatever IE or FF... whatever Win 7 or Earlier XP... whatever the computer... whatever the website...
The only constant is that FLASH PLAYER plugin keeps on crashing !!
And after so many years and so many versions you just can't produce a reliable fix !!!  So shame on you guys at Adobe !
Actually the only question of this post is to know whether or not there is an existing alternative to your s h i t t y piece of software called Flash Player,, the question now is even no more to think how to get a fix, the question is how to get a substitute for that plugin.
Ooohh you guys at Adobe noted that I'm angry... don't be mistaken, I'm sure I'm not alone being angry at your plugin.
    Regards.

I have been experiencing this problem for the last two upgrades.  Today has really ticked me off.  I was in the middle of creating a custom photo book and just getting close to the end when Flash stopped working and asked if I wanted to wait for it to reload or stop the plugin.  It doesn't make any difference as I have tried both options.  It totally crashed and I lost everything, I was working on through Shutterfly.  With all of Adobe's skilled programmers, you people don't have a clue why this keeps happening???  Shame on you!
Totally ticked off right now so I will stop before I say something I may regret!

  • Please Help installing Flash player - flashplayer 10 disappeared?

Hi, Can anyone help??? I had downloaded Flashplayer 10 prob month or two ago. We went to watch a prog on I.player and told flashplayer not installed!!! Dont know where it went as we never uninstalled it????
For days I have been trying to install Flash player 11. But its not working. I have been through the online trouble shooting guide so many times. I am using Windows XP (32bit), I believe. Im not very computer literate
Most of the time, I get to the stage where Adobe black screen says to close 'Internet Explorer' and 'Retry'. This I do and then I am getting "General Installation Error".
On one occasion I did receive the Error: The Flash Player ActiveX control could not be registered. I went through the guide again and think that has been sorted. but I do not understand anything about 'Windows System Registry Entries'...  Sorry guys - a real computer dum dum

    Hi Josh,
Thanks for your help but sadly that did not help. Have repeatedly used your link to uninstall any possible hints of flashplayer.
I did notice that I had 'Google Chrome' installed and I noticed that I could watch some things via that, but I do not understand it at all.
As i thought that may be interfering with the Flash player download, I uninstalled that too.
But Sadly, I am still getting the same message when I try and install Flashplayer:
It installs to 50% and then gives the message "General Installation Error". It is so frustrating as nearly every website I go to asks me to download Adobe Flashplayer!
I know another kind person has suggested a rather technical approach to solving the problem but I am really soooo computer illiterate and am so worried about wrecking the system.
Do you have any other suggestions or should I pay to get someone to look at my PC? I just cannot understand how I had Adobe Flash player 10 installed, with Internet Explorer 8 AND now that has just disappeared. Prior to your sugg, I know that i did not uninstall it so not sure how it disappeared...... Have managed to download the other Adobe downloads without probs eg Shock Wave, Air etc
    With many thanks,
    Lisa Willson

  • Dreamweaver CC - " Please Update your Flash Player "

I just got a new PC, everything is updated, explorer etc...  Wanted to learn Dreamweaver, so got it in stalled, got a flash website template to play with.  Dreamweaver says I need to update flash player.  It is up to date, tried the enable flayer player, that is all set correctly.  Installed firefox to see if that would work and installed flash player for firefox.  That does not work either ?  Not sure if this is a dreamweaver issue or a flash player issue.

Dreamweaver cannot edit Flash.  Flash edits Flash.  Also, if you are testing this locally many browsers have security settings that need to be altered to run Flash locally as it is seen as a security vulnerability.
If you cannot edit the file I would recommend opening the source files in Flash.
To see if this is a security issue, try uploading the flash file online and see if the same issue occurs.
