Please migrate my Sun Forums reputation

Both the Oracle and Sun forums list the join date and number of posts next to your user name.
This means that Oracle must think that these metrics have some sort of value to the user's reputation.
Since the metrics are considered valuable, please offer a way to migrate my [albeit mediocre] reputation from the Sun forums.
Thanks.

Thanks.Oddly enough, the mere existence of the metrics only loosely implies their value. Someone may easily have been doing the same thing over and over for decades, learning little. Some people may add their own mental context to another's posts, and so may completely disagree with a third person's judgment. Yes, most people with many posts and a funny little playing card may be better than average, but there are certainly those who come in and just drop our jaws with a few posts - good or bad.
I personally have some emotional investment in my name and start date - which may itself be a measure of antediluvian thought - so I understand and sympathize with your concern, and second your plea for our new friends. I just feel compelled to point out there have been discussions about how worthwhile these kinds of metrics are. Between developers and DBA's, we can beat a skeletal pliocene horse...

  • Sun forums migration: sun forum links returned with google searches

    Old forums.sun.com posts returned in google searches don't dump you into the thread anymore. Instead you get the forums.oracle.com home page. I was able to find the actual thread by using Google's cache to get the title of the post, then searching for it within the forums. However I figure once the google cache is refreshed, that won't work anymore.
    Any idea on workarounds, or will the old sun forums threads ever properly point to forums.oracle.com? I understand that the info has been migrated, but it still needs to be searchable/findable.

    Ok, I just talked to our technical person, and the reason that threads do not redirecting is because (...) So anytime you need to fins something specific in a thread, you will need to do a search.Has the migration team considered adding an automatically generated post such as "this topic was migrated from the Sun forums, topicid=xyz"?
    At least this suggestion would enable to search the lost topic by its ID!
    The problem with manual searching is that often we have not much more info about the topic than the id in the link.
    The Google cache is just a temporary epipehnomenon, at some point such search results will not be returned. But there remains a lot of (now dangling) pointers to Sun forum topics everywhere across the Internet.
    You wouldn't have to search very far: in the very content that was migrated from Sun forums to OTN forums, there are tons of intra-forum links ("This question is answered in [url http://nowLostInAether]this topic", or "Please consider the shortcomings of thsi approach as described in [url http://nowLostInAether]that thread"). There is no clue as to which keyword search coold lead to the lost target, and even if it were returned by an educated guess search, there would be no way to make sure it's the correct target ("Please sure to use [url http://nowLostInAether]this apporach, because [url http://nowLoastInSPace.com]that other approach is completely flawed!").

    I have not used Oracle Forums before, so tell me why you are not willing to migrate other than losing all of your Dukes.Unless they have wildly remodeled the resource in the last 6 months, I do not like the software they use for their search, nor the look and feel of their board. The entire interface is counter intuitive to me, and frustrated me greatly the entire time I tried to use it for support for my Oracle 9 and 10 products. I finally just started doing Google searches to get my questions answered, even thorugh we paid Oracle for support of our products.
    I only liked the Sun forum searches ever for about 6 months or so. I believe that was when they were specifically using google searches for the back end (I think it said something to that effect.)
    Other than that it was always useless.
    When we were looking at DB's several years ago, I championed Sun and Oracle as our business solution, and our company migrated to it. I have been the one since that is the access point to Oracle support, and to be blunt, I've not been pleased. At this point, now several years down the road, our company, partially on my recommendation, is having a clean break from Oracle and their business philosophy, so it just is not likely that I will venture over into the Oracle Forums again.
    If they follow through with their philosophy from the past, everyone that registers for the forums will probably start getting Oracle ads, and I have at times, even been SPAMMED from their business partners--I've been told by Oracle that it was a mistake, but yet, I am still getting SPAMMED from their partners. I've had to put all of Oracle on my SPAM list.Take a lesson from here when Sun messed up the forums - complain to the ISP provider rather than Oracle. That can lead to Oracle being marked as a spam source. And one might suppose that is something that they do not want to happen.

    The migration guide has step by step instructions, including command line examples, are you using that as your reference?
    Your upgrade should be to (at a minimum) DSEE 6.3.1.1.1. Upgrading to 6.0 is upgrading to a release level that has no patches or fixes to the product. There are significant fixes to the migration command line tools. There is a good chance you will run into issues.
    You should install and review migration to ODSEE 11.1.1.7.0 (which would effectively be the 7.2 release of the DS).
    There is a specific guide for migration and upgrade, which includes migration from DS 5.2 to 11.x

  • Migration from  Sun to HP Unix to Windows

    Hi ,
    There is hardware and OS migration activity is scheduled in my current project. To give you the detail, BI system will be migrated from SUN to HP servers and OS will be changed from Unix to windows.
    I am asked to test the system to check that any existing functionality that works before migration should work after migration.
    I was suggested to have a look at the Installation guide to prepare the checklist. I know that the guides are available on service market place, however I am wondering which one I need to refer for the BI 7.0 installation.
    Can any one please send the link of Installation guide  specifically for  BI 7.0. ?
    If any one has done the similar kind of migration activity before then please share the pre and post migration test steps that you have performed during migration.
    Regards,
    Neeraj

    Thanks Effen,
    DB will remain ORACLE. I have just gone through the system copy guide . I found it bit confusing
    I have prepared a list of all necessary activities and check required pre and post migration. Appreciate if you just have a look at it. Add any check that you think should be added in the list.
    Pre Migration check:
    SAP R3 Side:
    u2022Take the snapshot of SM37 for all the LIS jobs whether it is in released state.
    u2022Need to flush all the delta queues from LBWE
    u2022Make the delta Queues Zero (By scheduling the respective info packages for the data targets).
    SAP BW:
    Analysis phase
    u2022Understand the BW landscape and identify all Interfaces (SAP and Non SAP).
    u2022Prepare a list of all outstanding issues of BAU. Also record all problems if any thing is broken and not working pre migration.
    u2022Prepare the test scripts for technical and functional testing.
    Migration Phase:
    u2022Run process chain to flush all the delta queues.
    u2022Remove all the jobs from Schedule position; identify all the chains based on event and Schedule chains.
    u2022Stop all chains, remove them from schedule.
    Post Migration check:
    SAP R3 Side:
    u2022Change the state of the jobs position from Schedule to Release and schedule the LBWE job to flush the records from LBWQ to RSA7 as per the one Hour frequency
    u2022Check the next released job time and makes sure that the LBWE job is started sending the records from LBWQ to RSA7.
    u2022Take the screen shots before sending the data from LBWQ to RSA7.
    u2022Check for the number records in RSA7 as well as LBWQ.
    u2022After the successful job run, check for the number of records in RSA7.
    u2022Make sure that the records in RSA7 are matching with the LBWQ.
    u2022Keep an eye on all the LIS jobs for two or three consequent runs.
    SAP BW Side:
    Technical Check:
    u2022Before going to start the process chains, check all the source system connections. This includes SAP and Non SAP source systems.
    u2022Check the connection of all SAP source systems with BW. Ensure that the RFC connection is established for all SAP source systems.
    u2022Check the connection of all Non SAP source systems with BW. Ensure that the DB connect setting is correct and connection is established. Need to check all the source system connections through DB to make sure that all the tables/Views are not dropped out after migration. If there is any table with inactive status need to bring to the notice of the admin people of that particular database.
    u2022Double check all the process chains based on Event and Schedule are successfully scheduled as per the existing timings.
    u2022While scheduling the jobs, there might be some chances that system will automatically postpone the loads by one day based on the job priority defined, ensure that the jobs are running as per the scheduled date and time.
    u2022Need to keep an eye on all the critical process chains like APO loads Etc... Mentioned in the excel sheet.
    u2022Keep on monitoring the process chains running also compare the execution time for performance check.
    u2022Randomly check the infocubes, update rules, Info objects  and other objects and verify that the objects are in active mode.
    u2022Ensure that all externally scheduled processes are rescheduled Backups, DB statistics, monitoring processes, etc
    u2022Verify that the connectivity with SAP portal.
    u2022For verifying the BI Java configuration, run the IP transaction RSPLAN, open BI admin cockpit and check that it is working fine after migration.
    u2022Verify the all infocubes administration activities like index creation/deletion, aggregate roll up, compression & DB ststistics refresh are working fine after migration.
    u2022Create/delete/ maintain BW objects: DSO, infocube, infosource, update rule, transformation, DTP etc in dev systems.
    u2022Check that Full Request InfoPackage, Repair Full Request InfoPackage, Initialisation with Data Request InfoPackage, Initialisation without Data Request InfoPackage and Delta Request InfoPackage can be executed successfully.
    u2022Check RSRV transactions for consistency.
    u2022Create, delete and modify the Query in query designer. Verify that the query designer works properly after migraition.
    Functional Check:
    Execute all functional test scripts and validate that the data is being loaded in all relevant info providers.

  • Issues with migrating to SUN JVM

    Hi
    Chapter 4 of the "Microsoft Java Virtual Machine Transition Guide for IT Professionals" [part of the documentation for "The Diagnostic Tool for the Microsoft Virtual Machine"] contains[under a discussion of disabling Java] :
    (a) '... the Sun JRE, which "impersonates" the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine in IE ...';
    (b) 'Some Java plug-ins install in a Windows system by "impersonating" the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine using the same registry entry and Class ID in installation ... Be cautious when installing JREs that impersonate the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine ...'.
    Can anyone provide more information about this "impersonation" and what to be "cautious" about?
    In particular:
    (1) Does the impersonation only affect interpretation of applets under Internet Explorer plus any direct HTML references to the associated registry entries [and not any direct executable references to the Microsoft Java VM]?
    (2) Does the Microsoft Java VM have to be retained [even if another JRE is installed] to support any direct executable references to it?
    When I run "The Diagnostic Tool for the Microsoft Virtual Machine" on a Windows 98SE system, its VM Dependency Report has many entries for Micrsoft library modules - eg IEDETECT.DLL - and its Visual J++ Class Report has many entries - eg C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSHTML.DLL.
    There is no information about whether such dependencies are critical - the modules may have alternative paths if the MSJVM is not installed.
    At this stage, I suspect that Microsoft is not going to issue updates to such modules [Windows 98 is no longer fully supported] and therefore it would be unsafe to remove the Microsoft Java VM.
    Chapter 4 also mentions a "TreatAs" subkey, and recommends removing it. Does the Sun JRE install or rely on such a subkey?
    Chapter 6 says that "The use of Microsoft extensions is easy to find in current J++ source files ..." but is there any way that users without access to such source files can find which executable modules are dependendent on the entries shown when I run "The Diagnostic Tool for the Microsoft Virtual Machine" and look at its Visual J++ JAVAREG Report [which lists CLSIDs and associated Java classes for msjava.dll].

    HI Owen,
    JVM dependent web Applications are not working with IE after migrating to SUN JVM from MSJVM
    steps I followed are as follows.
    1)uninstalled MSJVM using MSJVM removal tool
    2) Install SUNJVM 1.4.2_07
    os used is windows xp sp2.
    I did checked SUN JVM in Internet options.
    Then I tried to test JVM dependent web apps on this they are not working. sometime JVM was attempting to upgrade to a newer version.
    But strangely it started working when I followed follwong steps.
    1) Install SUNJVM 1.4.1 (initial) - this version actually works proper with Documentum
    2) Uninstall SUNJVM 1.4.1 from Add/Remove Programs AND Remove the two Java Folders from Registry, under the Software Folder
    3) Reboot the pc
    4) Install SUNJVM 1.4.2_07
    5)checked SUN JVM in Internet options.
    Can Some one help me to know the reason for both not wokring and working.espl working since deepending on this I need to decide on how to migrate to SUN JVM
    Thanks
    Nagaraj
    History:
    My client is having MSJVM on their PCs I had suggested to migrate all these MSJVM dependent apps to SUN JVM. In this process I wanted to test these MSJVM apps with SUN JVM. while setting test lab I observed above mentioned behaviour.

  • Migration from Sun Java System Portal Server to the Oracle Portal

    Hi, I'm in charge of evaluate the viability of a project that comprises the migration from Sun Java System Portal Server to the Oracle Portal. so I'm wondering if there is a kind of out of box migration tool in Oracle Portal or exists some guidelines to do the migration. In the other hand there is the option of migrate from Sun Java System Portal Server to Oracle WebCenter?
    Thanks in advance!

    The migration path for Sun Portal Server is Oracle WebCenter Suite. WebCenter is a significantly different architecture so there are no tools planned for the migration. However, we do plan to document and publish a whitepaper once we've assisted a few of the initial customer migrations.

  • Important! Please use the public forum for your questions!

    Dear forum visitors,
    Please always use the forum mechanism to ask technical, workflow and creative questions and do not contact me and other Community Experts or Adobe employees with private messages. We all appreciate your trust and respect for our work, but there are two things you should consider:
    - Just like you, we all have a "normal" life. Sending private messages does not accelerate the process, if we are not around. Just like I was not here the last 24 hours 'cos I was visiting my grandmother and then dancing the night away, others have children and a family to take care of. And I think a bit of sleep is okay every now and then, too.
    - Results from private messages are not covered by the search engine and archiving mechanism for apparent reasons. Therfore at some point that info will be lost and future visitors looking for help will not be able to find it, meaning that we will have to answer the same questions over and over. This can of course not always be avoided, but in the interest of everyone, we should try to cut down redundancy and spent our time as efficiently as we can. Personally I don't get paid for this, so I'm investing my spare time. Again, I think doing a few other things in it instead of constantly monitoring forums would be okay...
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • HELP PLEASE: Tomcat 3 - Sun ONE Migration Problems

    Hi everybody. We are new Sun One users. We are trying unsuccessfully to migrate our tomcat application to this environment. in order to deploy it we have created a WAR file from the Netbeans Ide and we are trying to load it into Sun One AS... but it seems there is something wrong with the process becouse we don't have access to the defined jdbc resources. Any help would be very apreciated... and please, excuse my English.
    Javier Moreno

    Thanks a lot of for your fast answer, but we haven't don't too much progress...
    dbping shows a message about "java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: setdataSourceName"
    wich probably means mysql driver isn't fully implemented. anyway i will try
    to describe the steps we make to create de pool hoping you will be able to
    help us...
    That's what we do:
         - first, we create a Connection pool:
              name -> MySQLPool
              database vendor -> Other
              datasource class -> com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlDataSource
    serverName -> localhost
    portNumber -> 3306
    user -> test
    password -> test
    databasename -> jdbc:mysql://localhost/pol
    datasourcename -> pol
         - then, we define the resource:
              jndi name -> jdbc/jdbc-pol01
              pool name -> MySQLPool
              data source enabled -> true
         - in the web.xml of the application we got (just before /webapp):
              <resource-ref>
              <description>DB Connection</description>
              <res-ref-name>jdbc/jdbc-pol01</res-ref-name>
              <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
              <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
    </resource-ref>
         - and we obtain the connection with a chunk of code like this:
    ctx = new InitialContext();
    dsName = "java:comp/env/jdbc/jdbc-pol01";
    ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup(dsName);
    con = ds.getConnection();
    If we don't write the resource-ref element at web.xml it fails at the lookup
    step (not finding the resource). but when we add the element the appserver
    claims "Error loading new module in virtual server: javax.naming.InvalidNameException: Real jndi name cannot beempty for jdbc/jdbc-polds.
    We don't know what to do and the death line is comming here fast... any help
    would be very much apreciated.
    Thanks in advance, good karma.

    Hi,
    We are migrating from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 with the compiler migration also earlier we are using Sun Studio 6 and now it is Sun Studio 11.

    98 typedef map<ResourceID, ResElement *>::iterator ResMapIterator;
    100 typedef list<ResElement *>::iterator ResListIterator;
    We are using a /opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC compiler and the verison is CC: Sun C++ 5.8
    Please help me out about the issue

    Since you are jumping several compiler releases and two Solaris releases, you should migrate in two steps.
    1. Get your application working with Sun Studio 11 on Solaris 8.
    2. You can now run that application on Solaris 10, or you can rebuild it on Solaris 10 and then run it.
    An application built on Solaris 8 will run on Solaris 9 and 10.
    An application built on Solaris 10 cannot be run on Solaris 8 or 9.
    We promise upward binary compatibility, allowing an old binary to be used with a newer compiler or on a newer Solaris. But we can't promise source code compatibility because we don't want to have to duplicate old bugs in old compilers.
    C++ 5.8 in Sun Studio 11 detects errors that older compilers might have missed. The rules about where to use "typename" are one example.
    I would not expect the warning about typename to be generated by either of the source code lines that you show, but I can't really tell without seeing a compilable example.
    You need to use typename when you use a type that depends on a template parameter. Example:
    template <class T> class C1 {
    public:
        typedef T Type;
    template <class T> class C2 {
    public:
        typename T::Type a;
    C2< C1<int> > c2i;If in C2 you do not specify typename, the compiler does not know whether T::Type is intended to be the name of a type. If it is not a type, the code is always invalid. The C++ rule is that if an an identifier is not known to be a type, it is not a type. You use typename to tell the compiler that T::Type is supposed to be the name of a type.

  • Migration from sun one to novell edirectory

    hello folks,
    please share info if anybody have an ideas on how to migrate data from sun one to novell edirectory. help wil be appriciated. thanks

    Does the documentation provide an upgrade path?
    Do you have existing data you need to preserve? If not you should be able to uninstall the old version and install the the one one. You should be able to use pkgrm to remove the old one IF it was a package based install.
    The changes you want to do (changing the directory tree and adding a UID) should not require an upgrade.
    It sounds like you need to reed the Sun/Oracle provided documentation.
