Please please HELP! iChat won't launch!

I think my husband deleted the program or messed it up somehow, but he doesn't know how. Instead of the icon in the >Applications menu, there is the paper with the pencil & ruler. He somehow deleted Garage Band, as well! I have tried reinstalling via the OSX Leopard install CD and restarting and it STILL does not work. I am fairly new to Mac, so I need specific instructions.

Mail & iChat won't launch - Please help

Hey guys
So I was trying to make a clone of a HD from another computer using Carbon Copy Cloner because I was going to wipe it out and install Tiger. I wanted to make a backup copy to my computer so I used Target Mode to bring my computer's HD to the host computer and make the copy. This was the first time I used CCC so instead of making the HD an image file I selected Choose Target or something like that, then it started making a copy of it directly to my computer's HD. I stopped it when I saw it was copying all the files and folder to my computer's HD, I mean, I thought it would make a separate folder with the name of the HD I was trying to make a backup of and put everything in it. But no, I was wrong. Then I was able to make it an image file. Backed it up, everything ready for wipe out. After finishing with the backup I erased it, and then installed Tiger without a problem. Going back to my computer I encountered a problem, Mail and iChat won't launch. My guess is that when CCC started making the clone to my comp's HD it messed up something somewhere on my computer affecting them. So I'm asking you guys if you can give me a hand on how to fix this problem. If anybody knows how to make them work again please let me know as I need them to work, they're part of my work's tools.

Safari, iChat won't launch ?

Need advice, can't launch Safari or iChat. Or it will take them 10-15 minutes to launch.
This started after I was trying to do a secure erase on an external
firewire hard drive.
I think Disk Utility hung because the progress bar wasn't advancing
after an hour and it never completed the process. So I had to do a Force
Quit of Disk Utility.
Thereafter, I first had problems with doing a normal Restart. That now
seems OK after a Force Restart and a couple of regular Restarts.
But what is still a problem is Safari and iChat won't launch either from
the dock or from their location. They either show the arrow below their
icon in the dock or they do the bouncing thing but they don't launch.
Any advice as how to repair. I've run DU and Disk Warrior but all was OK
and still doing it.

    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
(Likely suspects are TimesRO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
2. Check Preferences Thoroughly:
    • Go to Users/Your_Name/Library/Preferences and trash the files:
    - com.apple.ATS.plist
    - com.apple.BezelServices.plist
    Restart. If this did not help, go to Users/Your_Name/Library and drag the folder Preferences to the desktop. Restart and see if this solved the problem
    • Navigate to YourHome/Library/Preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs."
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
    • Navigate to yourhome/library.
    • Get Info (Command + i) on the "Applications Support" folder.
    • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
    • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
    • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folder names of the applications with which you are having trouble.
Note:
The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.

Please Help - GarageBand won't launch

I haven't used Garageband in quite a while. It was working fine the last time I did.
Now that I tried lauching it, it won't work anymore. I can't remember doing anything or messing with it. It will initialize and then close immediately.

Download a trial of it, install it, launch it, and drag your Photoshop CS4 app icon onto the window. It will find ALL of the associated preference files and list them in the window. Uncheck the Photoshop CS4 app and folder, and then "Zap" the rest. Empty your trash, and then double click the PS app icon. it should open and rebuild all of your preferences.

IChat won't launch

I am currently running 10.6.8 and one day, iChat would not open at all. The icon doesn't even appear on the dock when I click it. Right now, the icon looks like this -

Can I be clear ?
You don't normally keep iChat as an App in the DOCK and that icon is seen in the Applications Folder itself ?
I have seen that type of icon on itmes downloaded from the 'Net and you then get s pop up message asking if you Trust it. (The icon then appears properly - although I have seen some take until a computer restart to appear correctly)
Do you get a tooltip message if you mouse over the icon ? (Small popup type message)
There may be several ways to fix this depending on any message.

IChat won't launch on Snow Leopard

Only after upgrading to SL, my AIM account launches but immediately logs out.

Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443(press return/enter(you might have to tick and untick SSL for 443 to stick)).
Log back in again.

Safari and iChat won't launch

Hi,
I have just updated to 10.5.1 and now when I try to open Safari I get a message saying 'You cannot use the application 'safari' with this version of Mac OS X'. The same happened with iChat

We have a brand new machine with OSX 10.4.5
iChat won't launch at all, just goes right to report window.
Safari launches but crashes after a few minutes. Goes to report window.
Hard to believe Apple software not working on this.

I would suggest you create a new user in your Accounts preference pane. call the user test if you like.
Login as that user adn see if ichat runs and safari runs ok.
If that is the case then its a bad preference in your own user account.
Post back here what happens please.

IWeb won't launch

I need help. iWeb won't launch. Everytime I try to launch it, I get the progress bar and it shows about 50% complete… then does not progress… then temporarily freezes my system… then quits and I get the standard dialog box message asking of I would like to quit, re-try or send a report to Apple. I've tried the re-try option sometimes with luck but not usually and I've sent NUMEROUS reports to Apple. I've read the reposrt and it says something to the affect of crashing on thread 4. HELP, my site is a work in progress and I pdate it frequently.

I have the same issue. iWeb loads and I open the media browser. As it is cataloging all my movies, it crashes. I believe it does have to do with "corrupt" movie files, and in my case, .avi files created by my Canon camera. When it gets to one, it closes unexpectedly. If I move these files elsewhere, it goes further until it gets to another one before crashing. Same thing with the ones in my iPhoto library. I haven't "cleaned" all of them out of my Movies and Photos folders, but they seem to be the offending files in my case causing iWeb to crash.
I'm not clear what the 'domain' file has to do with this, though. Mine shows '?????' so it didn't lead to any insight to the "corrupt" files.

Apps won't launch, just bounce once. help please!

Out of the blue (I haven't downloaded anything recently or done anything out of the normal) several apps (safari, iTunes and a few others) won't launch. They bounce once and nothing. I've repaired disk permissions and tried launching under another user, nothing working. I can't remember what OS I have, I haven't updated it since I bought like 4 or 5 years ago if that helps at all. Help?

In order to help, some specific info is necessary - for your OS, please click on "about this mac" under the Apple (top left corner) and it should tell you under the Mac OS X which version you are running. Then also copy whatever info is underneath (Processor, Memory). Also, you say you haven't downloaded anything - are you saying that you haven't run Software Update since you got the Macbook?

IChat WON'T WORK using audio or video chatting [PLEASE HELP]

Bought a Mac a couple months ago and I'm pretty (yeah, that's VERY) happy about it. The thing is when it comes down to my iChat, I wanted so much to have video conference with my family in Brazil while I'm studying in Spain -- but I Just can't! =(
Let's put it that way: iChat won't recognize my (Googlechat) friends and their webcams; and as long as I'm connected, I have never seen any sort of "audio label" beside their names.
So can any Mac-pro please help me out explaining what the matter is?
Can't I talk to my friends just because the're using PCs -- or there's nothing to do with it?
I've tried everything, from Preferences to Praying; and it won't work. Just wanna let you guys know that all the people that I'm trying to talk to have webcams and microphones plugged-in.
PS - Plus, I got this huge agenda full of contacts (around 2,000) that appear to be on my iChat list, but they're somehow never online. Is that because I have to send them an invitation to join my Googlechat? =/

You can Add an Google Mail ID (@gmail.com or @googlemail.com) as your ID/screen Name in iChat.
From iChat to iChat this will also do Video or Audio Chats as well as Text chats.
From iChat to anyone using the Google Web Mail page you can text chat as the Video and Audio codecs are different.
The same is true of the PC app for GoogleTalk.
To be able to login in to Google Talk using iChat your have to Enter you ID as it is written on any Google Page when you are logged in (Ends with either @gmail.com or @google.com), Mail seems to cope with either but iChat needs it to match.
You also have to Enable the Talk option on your Google Account info.
To See the Green Video and audio icons go to the View Menu of ichat and Select Show Audio and Show Video.
If you are trying to Chat with a PC I would use one of these
Alternatives to iChat but Video chatting In a Web Browser
MeBeam. An option to use a Web site that create Private room for Video Chatting. Uses Flash to access your Camera and Mic.
iVideoChat Similar setup but a somewhat corporate type look to the site. Has Public rooms as well. Again uses Flash.
Googlemail/GoogeTalk now do a Version in a Web Browser
Tokbox A Site that can link your existing Buddy Lists that Uses Flash to Video chat in a Browser.

I installed 3.6.12 and now get error message that says - Error: Platform version 1.9.2.12 is not compatible with miniversion = 1.9.2.10 maxversion = 1.9.2.19 and it won't launch unless outside of sandbox. I cannot navigate to yahoo. Please help.

Error message is entitled XUL Runner and says - Error: Platform version 1.9.2.12 is not compatible with miniversion >= 1.9.2.10 maxversion <= 1.9.2.19 and it won't launch. Do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

It would have been lovely if they let us know (Important Notice that the New LR5 is compatible only with MAC LION 10.7 and newer Mac versions of operating systems and older, not previous Mac operating systems versions) on the main page before purchasing LR5. I've never had a LR product that didn't work with the old operating system, and I've owned all of them. I think I just trusted Adobe would continue on with the same process . So basically, we'd have to upgrade our operating system and risk the change of now having a situation with all of our current programs that work perfectly with LR5.
Is it possible that Adobe could make sure that they inform trusting customers like us, similar to when trying to market their new products campaigns, they tell us how fabulous the upcoming product are in a variety of ways.... luring us in... You know most of us are Artists.
Just make sure you make it known other than looking at the tech spec page... say like on the page where the shopping cart option is? Epson's printer wouldn't calibrate with the Adobe PS4 a few years ago. It took us months to figure out that, it had nothing to do with our calibration process. Finally....after speaking to Epson, they walked us through varies steps etc... hundreds of dollars later, we were able to get a good print, it turns out the Adobe 4 software was not compatible at that time with the new Epson software. So here we go again...

Updated iPhoto won't launch..Someone, help please!

I just downloaded the newest version of iPhoto last night, and for some reason, it won't launch. The icon's there, and it bounces up and down when I click on it, but nothing happens and it won't open. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? Should I just remove it and try downloading again? I'm afraid doing so might delete my photo library..! Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Firefox no longer launches when I click the launch icon. It was working fine and then all of a sudden it won't launch. I have Vista home prremuim service pack 2. Can you please help me resolve this issue so I can once again use firefox? Thanks

firefox was working. Now it is not. Won't launch when I click the icon. Don't know the version as I cannot get it to launch to check the version.
