Try this Resetting iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond
If that doesn't work then there is this Restoring iPod to factory settings
Failing that you may want to work your way through the iTunes 101: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/

  • Please help - Ipod freezes when playing any video

    Hi
I only got my ipod video a day ago and it wont play any video files. Everytime i go to play a video it freezes and just shows a black screen. I have tried downloading a music video from the itunes store and this wont work either. When i first got it i did play one video, im not sure if this was before i updated the firmware though?
I cannot figure out how to reset the firmware if this is what i need to do?
I would really appreciate some advice.
    Thanks in advance.

I just got my iPod like two months ago and it wouldn't play any video podcast until I downloaded the new iTunes software. Now it plays some video podcasts but not all. I tried to watch some new podcasts I had downloaded from iTunes and it would play some of it then just freeze and make these wierd sounds. I tried again and it totally froze where I couldn't do anything, not even turn it off. It stayed that way until the battery was completely drained then it turned itself off later that night. The next morning I charged it up and it worked fine but I still can't watch those podcasts. Please help, cause this thing is pretty much brand new and for the amount of money I spent on it I don't want it to start giving me problems after only two months.

  • HELP ME- ipod mini wont play songs!

i have rescently moved houses and had to load my ipod mini on to a new computer and new i tunes list. I re loaded all my music on to the new list and transfered my ipod to factory settings to wipe all my old music. But when i went transfer all of my music to my ipod everything went bad!
my ipod says it has the songs on it but when i go to play them it plays none of them and just skips them all! Also when my ipod is connected to itunes i cant play the songs that are said to be in my ipod, but all the songs in my library play perfectly! (which are the same as the ones in my ipod)
please help me im going crazy!!!

    Hello Anna,
Have you any tracks purchased from the iTunes Music Store? Did you authorise the new computer: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation you could also have a look here: Troubleshooting songs that skip on iPod
One last thing, when your iPod is connected to iTunes and you try to play it through the computer do you get Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen? This would mean that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. • Please help, iPod Nano and iTunes issues

    1. I can't update my iPod Product Red. I've downloaded the update, and when I click "update" in iTunes, it just sits there for hours saying its updating
    2. The first time I start windows, connect my iPod Nano and then start iTunes (or even the other way around, start itunes then connect ipod), my nano doesn't show up in itunes. I need to restart the service after plugging in the nano every single time!
    3. I cant restore my iPod Nano either, the same problem with the updating my ipod, the progress screen just goes back and forth for hours without doing anything, infact my nano just seems like it looses synch during both an update and a restore, because the do not disconnect message on the screen goes away once either update or restore process is started.
Please help! This is my first ipod purchase and so far it is really disappointing me and frustrating, thanks

  • PLEASE HELP - ipod nano

I cannot get my ipod nano to work. I just got it and im not particularly good with technology but im sure it shouldnt be this hard. When i turn it on i get the folder with exclaimation mark msg - so as the website says i tried to restore it to factory settings. BUT when i do this on my computer, it comes up with "Update version invalid" what is this? I have itunes 7 (the new one??). I'm so confused, can anyone help? a step-by-step guide would be MUCH appreciated but any input would be great.

The iPod is designed to sync to one computer as it copies the music to a special file for the iPod OS and software to play.
You can enable "disk mode" and use that to transfer any file back and forth, but the iPod won't play music files stored in the "disk mode" portion you set in iTunes Preferences with the ipod plugged in.
Basically the software you used to transfer the music out of the "special file" back into iTunes is not authorized, it's a "hack". So Apple routinely disables the hacks because of agreements to protect the music from piracy.
Another thing is the music you got from your friend may indeed by ACC/"Fairplay" copy protected music bought from the iTunes Music Store, unless your computer is one of the five authorized, it won't play.
Also because you hooked your iPod to your friends PC, the "ownership" might have changed and Apple may have employed something that your iPod is no longer recognized as yours.
What you probably have to do is use the iPod software to "reset" your iPod, clear out everything in the process and just hook it to your computer.
If you want to transfer uncopy protected, non-copy righted "free" music to your computer from another computer, enable the iPod's "disk mode" and set a size to balance between the music in your "special file" and the needs of what you intend to transfer.
Once you get home, transfer the music files into your iTunes, then you can copy them to the "special file" so the iPod can play them.
It's a bit complicated, but's it's designed to prevent mass theft of music (so the artists will provide their music online) and keep the benefit of syncing/playlists in line.

  • IPod Nano wont update songs!!!

Okay, when I plug my ipod nano into the USB port and my itunes pop up, the stage where my ipod would usually update itself is replaced with a popup window that says: Songs on "iPod Nano" cannot be updated because of all the playlists selected for updating no longer exist.
Yes, I have no playlists right now, for some reason in the past I deleted them all. But this problem has erased all the songs and things I have on my ipod and since it wont update my songs I cant seem to put them back in (this includes the burned ones and ones bought from the music store). I am totally confused on what to do, someone PLEASE help!!

I am experiencing, for the first time, a VERY similar issue; except I have MANY playlists, and, up until now, I have been able to selectively manage them on my iPod (2Gb iPod, 60Gb of music). Now, all of a sudden, I get the error that is quoted above, although I have already restored iPod twice, reinstalled iTunes once, as well as selected manual sync, and they all "crap-out" about 1/3 of the way thru the synch-job. Never before have I had any similar problems with my product. Please help.

  • Please help!  Nano wont sync new purchases.

My ipod was recently registered on a laptop. The laptop died & I didn't have my songs backed up. I am back on the regular desktop computer which had old ipod info on it. I now have many more songs on my ipod than what is on the itune screen. I purchased new songs yesterday from Itunes & tried to sync them & it says that it is syncing but it doesn't bring over the new songs. How can I get both the computer & the ipod to have the same information.

iPod's are only meant to be synced with one iTunes library. But if you have 'Manually Manage Music and Videos' enabled you can drag and drop the files in iTunes to your iPod.
To manually manage you'll click on your iPod under 'Devices' in iTunes. Scroll down until you see options and check off 'Manually Manage Music and Videos'.

  • Please Please Help: Ipod Nano stuck n hold!!

I dont know what 2 do and i feel like crying becaz i have been searching on here 4 hours an im geting tired. Ok: My ipod iz stuck on hold, ive tried everything from switvhing the button back an forth 2 holdign the center button and menu. and i dont know how 2 do that restore factory setting thing, I read that i can let the battery run out but how can i if it goes 2 sleep? ANY HELP EXTREMLEY APPRECIATED

Plug your ipod into your computer. When it shows in iTunes it should show your ipod in the top. In the Versions section below there should be two things: "Your ipod is up to date" with an update button greyed out after it and "If you are experiencing problems...." right below that. At the end of that statement you should see a "restore" button. Click on that and it will as you if you are sure you want to restore as it will remove everything you put on your ipod from it. Click yes. It will then begin to reset it to factory settings. Finally, you will get a prompt telling you not to unplug your ipod as the process is completing and your ipod will show in itunes again when finished. Click "ok". When it is done it will show up as it did when you first purchased the ipod asking you to name it, etc.

Hold Sleep/Wake + Home buttons down for at least 30 seconds. Then see if it will come back on. Also, try holding the Home button down when plugging the unit into the USB cord (w/iTunes open).
