PLEASE PLEASE HELP lost files after system recovery

Hello Everyone,
I did a system recovery, using a backup from last year. However, I lost all saved files since that last backup, including some VERY IMPORTANT family pictures. Is there anything that I can do to get those files back? Please help me guys, I am so torn right now and it's tearing me apart. Thank you so much for any help.

Hi,
I have to agree with "lead_org", as the restore process might have left some "unrestored", but in the same time hidden part. So really in this situation, please try to use some "restore" tool, that will enable you to view "deleted" files.
Not really good news, I do understand it.
Cheers

  • Missing files after System Recovery, HP Pavillion G62, Windows 7, 64 bit.

    My 5 month old laptop is showing signs of slowing down. When this occurs I do a system recovery in an effort to correct any problems. After completion of system recovery I always get the following error;
(the system cannot find the file specified (Ox80070002))
                               C:\users\owner\applicationdata\locallow.
                               C:\users\owner\contacts.
                               C:\users\owner\searches.
The notice is in Notepad. None of the files can be found with a search from the main menu. If no refererence to the files can be found how does the computer know they exist? My feeling is that the computer cannot operate up to speed with missing files?
I do have some other oddities occuring but I don't think you can solve anything if files are missing.

Those are user file locations and will not affect windows or how it runs, you can ignore that error.

  • Lost photos after system recovery

help please i recovered the system after the tochpad stopped working and other avenues did not assist, problem solved however in my haste i neglected to copy my photos and have since lost them. desperately would like to recover them and will be grateful for any solutions offered. yes i know im an idiot.. thanks

It's possible, but unlikely that they can be recovered.  You'll need to contact one of the hard disk recovery companies such as Drive Savers to see about getting it done.  I'll warn you that it won't be cheap.  Prices start at around a thousand dollars and go up and there is absolutely no guarantee that they will be successful.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Problem restoring my files after system recovery

Hey so, I just recovered my system. The process had me backup all my files on an external harddrive. I now am trying to restore the files from the harddrive using the cyberlink recovery manager, the problem is that, everytime I run the app it freezes after about an hour. The progress bar remains at 0% even though i see files being copied below it. Any ideas on how to circumvent this? Do i need to use recovery manager? All the files in the folder are in some format that looks as though theyre useless without an app configuring them.

There is usually one file in the backup that has .EXE extension, maybe be named Restore.exe or Recovery.exe. Clicking it extracts the files.

  • Lost files after system crash

Apparently my iBook's battery is getting it's last breaths. My iBook no longer goes to sleep when the battery is low but instead it shuts down. After the last time that happened I noticed a directory in my home has become empty. I mean:
    % ls -la .foo/
returns nothing as opposed to at least the listing of . and .. Also if I try to ls a file that used to be there I get:
    %ls .foo/file
    ls: .foo/file: Input/output error
Disk Utility said that disk passed tests. What might be happening?

    1. You wrote: "DiskWarrior and Tech Tool cost a lot of money."Whether they cost "a lot" is relative. Compared to how much time you'll spend correcting the problem without them, they're dirt cheap. If you can only buy one, buy DiskWarrior, which specializes in directory repair.
In some ways, you're lucky to have a PowerPC-based Mac: DiskWarrior is not yet available for Intel-based Macs.
    2. You wrote: "I just need to correct the file system. Disk Utility does not seem to be able to handle it."Then your options are (a) buy one of the utilities above or (b) reformat the drive. Disk Utility can fix minor directory errors, but the problem you reported is a severe directory corruption issue.
    3. You wrote: "Should just reinstall Tiger?"Not without first correcting the directory corruption, otherwise a basic reinstall — an Archive and Install — may overwrite your data or third-party application files. Depending on how long the directory has been corrupt and how you're performing backups, it's possible some of your backups may also be corrupt, e.g. some of the files corrupted — partially or fully overwritten — due to the directory corruption on your Mac.
    4. You wrote: "If so, my trust on OS X collapses, because regular reinstall in problem situation is what the Windos people do. That should not happen here now should it."Reinstalling the OS is usually one of the last resorts in troubleshooting Mac OS X.
There are a variety of causes for directory corruption such as you are seeing. Many are preventable: see my "Data corruption and loss: causes and avoidance" FAQ for a discussion on this subject.
Bottom line is you either buy a third-party disk repair utility, such as those cited above, or wipe the drive and reinstall. Your call.

  • Garage Band fails to open files after system recovery

I recent had to have my hard drive replaced. When I got home I did a fully recovery. I was able to use logic studio with no problem. Then I opened Garageband. I could see my files however when I try to open the files, the message reads that the file cannot be opened. I then tried to run the ILIFE 09 disk to see if reloading the software would help. It did not. Can anyone tell me what may be going on here and how to fix it?
    Thanks

ordered recovery media from Toshiba and installed it.  ....  I tried to call Toshiba support, but because I am outside my warranty, I was told I would be charged for support.
It is running Windows 8..even though it is supposed to be on 8.1 (according to the sticker on the bottom of the laptop).
The product key is buried in the hardware.
According to the spec above, the original model shipped with Windows 8 and needed to be upgraded. My guess is that they later shipped the same model with Windows 8.1.
It appears Toshiba shipped the wrong recovery media.

  • File recovery after system recovery?

One of our students has a laptop that has had a system recovery performed on it by someone else by holding the zero key while pressing the power button.  I'm trying to see if any file recovery is possible using standard forensic tools or suites.  I haven't been able to find out exactly how the system recovery process works so I don't know what I have to work with.  Does anyone know how the original partition is cleaned up before copying the files from the hidden backups?
Thanks in advance for any help or information you can offer.

  • Restore Photoshop Elements 2 updates lost after System Recovery

I have a copy of Photoshop Elements 2 that came over on the Mayflower in my computer... Last week I had to do a system recovery (restoring to factory settings).  I was able to load in the disc without trouble, but the updates to the original software are no longer available.   How can I restore the updates I've used and enjoyed over the past what...7 years?  Is there a "Key" I can buy, a secret handshake...or maybe a guy who knows somebody who knows a guy?
The program was running in XP....  Stop laughing.

  • Photoshop 7.0 After System Recovery

My computer started this Compaq System Recovery, and every programs I had were deleted and lost. Thank God I still had most of my files. Anyway, as I turned on Photoshop again, it said "Could not complete your request because of missing or invalid personalization information."
I am in great depression right now, and was hoping to have a reply as soon as possible. I can't live without Photoshop. Photoshop is my life now. But here are some information about my system:
    My Computer: Windows XP
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 7.0
Computer Crash Date: March 22, 2006
Got the Photoshop from: The PC with it.
If I have to reinstall Photoshop, how? It cost too much, and it came with the PC already. Please do help. I am trying my best to fix this.

  • Wrong version of Win 7 after system recovery.

My Pavillion dv7 I purchased from Best Buy about 6 months ago hiccuped and died. I wasn't able to do a system recovery, but was able to do a system restore.  After figuring out that I needed to turn off the wi-fi, I have stumbled across another problem.  The activiation key on the sticker on the bottom of the computer will not activate Win 7.  The sticker says that it is for Win 7 Home Premium while Win 7 Home Basic is currently installed.  How can I unlock the correct version of Win 7 that was installed AND PAID for on this computer so it will function again.
    Thanks!!

As for the restore disk, I didn't realize this computer came with any. I'll look again through my stuff to see if I have them. If I do, then just pop them in and let 'er rip? If no disks, then what?
Do you still have the recovery partition?? You could mark the recovery partition (Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Disk Management) as active and reboot. It will (should) act like with the recovery disks in..
If all fails, install an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium (borrow, download etc..) and use the product key from the bottom of the laptop...

  • Resoring partial backup after system recovery?

    HP Pavillion D4990y

Had to do an HP System Recovery (F11 during POST).  Chose to do a partial system backup (creates *.zip files) to an external HDD and followed instructions.  After recovery, cannot restore.
This seems to be a widespread problem when trawling the WWW.
What's the trick, here?  I can get the User files back, but I surely would like to restore the software and other programs added after purchase.

Hello AlphaBeta, Anytime you do a HP Recovery Restore, it is always recommended to perform a backup first, of your important data. There is always a risk that something may go wrong when performing a HP Restore Recovery.
HP also recommends performing a destructive recovery, that will format the hard drive and wipe the hard drive clean.
I have never used the method you mention, but if you have access to some zip files, you may be able to unzip these files and gain access to the files in the zip package.
    Just some thoughts.

    Hi,
The download page for a lot of notebooks often has multiple entries for the same software - for both drivers and other software, just install the latest version.
When you believe that you have installed all relevant software and drivers, you can always check by opening windows Control Panel and then opening Device Manager - look for any entry here that has a warning icon ( yellow triangle ) next to it.  If you find any, right click on the problem device and select Properties.  Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and post back with the details shown under Value.
    Best regards,
