MSI Neo-FIS2R 875P + Thermaltake Xaser3 V2000a

Anyone have any issues when connecting the RESET connector from the Xaser3 V2000a case to the MSI Neo-FIS2R 875P Mobo? When I do the board will not even POST. Could it be a faulty plug on the case as I doubt its the Mobo?
Btw.. only OCed the processor to 233/466 at default Vcore resulting in 3.26Ghz. Will be going much higher as well as OCed the Ram.
Mind you.. curious why WinXP+SP1 only shows the Processor at 2.80Ghz and not the new speed (3.26Ghz)? SiSandra also shows this but when I use MSI's InfoView it shows at 3.26Ghz. Probably nothing to worry about.. just wondering..

Hi, just helped a friend with his new Xaser case and also had a very difficult time getting it to boot. We discovered that the chasis intrusion switch wasn't fully engaging. Cleared cmos and everything worked after that. Don't know if this will help or not. Good luck, it's a great case.

MSI Neo-FIS2R build questions! & SATA RAID questions!

This is going to sound like a stupid question. And I'm not even sure that I know what I am asking.
I've built two computers so far. One with an MSI K7N2G-L and another with an MSI K7N2G-ILSR. Both nForce2 motherboards with AMD processors.
Here's what I'm getting at... I'm planning on building a new machine with either the Abit IC7-G or the MSI Neo-FIS2R (both 875P boards obviously).
Now, when I built the two nForce2 boards it was really easy. I put all of the components together, turned on the machine, the bios auto enabled settings, I put the windows xp pro cd in the cd drive and formatted the hard drive for NTFS, I then installed the OS and booted the system! Then I intstalled the drivers fromt the MSI CD. Ran Live BIOS and flashed to the most current motherboard BIOS. SIMPLE! Everything worked fine.
Here's my question. For the 875P system will everything pretty much happen the same way? Or do I need to do additional things? One of my main concerns (especially if I go with the Abit IC7-G over the MSI) is flashing the bios. Do I need a floppy drive or something? I've never flashed a BIOS outside of the Live BIOS utility. I don't want to put a floppy drive in my system! What are my options here?
Not that I want to do it, but if I needed to (say with the Abit board) HOW DO I FLASH THE BIOS WITHOUT USING THE LIVE BIOS UTILTY?
Bottom line is, I'm building this system for someone else and I want it all to be a painless experience (especially if they are looking over my shoulder).
One final question. This may sound even more stupid than the first question. I'm purchasing SATA drives ONLY. I'm not purchasing any IDE drives. So, here's my question...Can I boot from a SATA drive? What if it's in RAID 0? From the posts in the forums it appears that the SATA and RAID on these 875P motherboards either doesn't work or isn't very reliable (may potentially lose data). IS THIS AT ALL TRUE?! I'm stupid when it comes to RAID and SATA. Any help in this department would be appreciated.

I have never built a raid array (as yet) and have never owned a SATA disk (as yet), but from what I have read...
RAID is a method of connecting several disks together so they perform as a single disk. That means, in response to your points above:
1) If you install only one drive (SATA or not), it will not be set up as RAID.
2) If you install two SATA drives, you have the option of using them as two individual drives OR setting them up in a RAID 0 or 1 configuration.
3) Ok, RAID 0 is known as "striping" - this method makes two disks look like one big disk, that works twice as fast as the individual drives. Every time the PC writes data to the drive, it sends the first bit of data to drive 1, the second to drive 2, then drive 1 again etc etc. This speeds up the disk read/write time, as the two disks can both work simultaneously. To the OS though, the two drives appear as one. The OS will be spread across both disks - it needs both of them connected to run, take either disk out and you'll be left with half an OS (that obviously won't work)
With RAID 1 (known as "mirroring"), you still use two disks. You will only have a useable capacity of the smallest disk however (using two 40gb drives only gives you a total of 40gb of space. with RAID 0, two 40gb disks will make one big one - nearly 80gb large {I think the RAID system itself uses a bit of space}). The advantage with mirroring, is the second disk holds an exact copy of the first. If one disk goes bang, you have a duplicate copy on the second - so, to answer your point above, the OS will reside on both disks.
To summarize, RAID 0 is good for increasing speed; RAID 1 is good for increasing protection of your data as you have two copies incase a drive gives up. To get the best of both worlds you need RAID 0+1 (this method needs 4 disks though, 2 striped - then 2 mirroring the striped).
There is a lot to RAID - just search the net for some manuals if you're interested, hope this gives you an idea though (providing I've got it right!)

MSI Neo-FIS2R 875P working great after RMA - Now Tweaking Advice..

Since early June I've tried everything to get my OCZ PC3500 1Gb RAM to run in Dual-Channel. It would not POST when placed on either Dimm1+3 or Dimm2+4 combos but would work (in single channel) on Dimm3+4. When I took the Mobo out of the case and reinserted it back in, the board would POST fine in Dual-Channel but if one rebooted a 3rd time it would start crashing before it got to the boot devices.. a 4th time and it would lock at detecting the memory.. a 5th and it wouldn't POST at all. Memory was fine as I tested it in another competitor's board.
After giving MSI my mind about cross-shipping they gladly sent a replacement board out while I retained this one (which still worked in Single/Virtual Channel regardless).
Finally got the new board.. put on some of that new OCZ Ultra2 Thermal Paste (wicked stuph I might add as not only does it drop the CPU temps by up to 4c but the paste is NOT THERMALLY CONDUCTIVE so no more possibilities of shorts - not bad for only $6 CDN with lots of squirks left! :P ) and hooked it all back up and bingo: WORKING NOW IN DUAL-CHANNEL FLAWLESSLY!!
Now.. any recommendations for CPU/Memory/FSB tweaking? Is it possible to run in Ultra Turbo mode with 2-2-3-5 with 250 FSB? Anyone else have this OCZ PC3500 ram?

I have the same mobo and CPU as you and use OCZ pc3700. you will never run in Ultra Turbo mode with 2-2-3-5 with 250 FSB. Your ram is rated at 217, getting it to run at 250 with those timings is really not a posibility.
Not even reviewers have been able to get pc3700 ram at 250 with timings faster than 2.5-3-3-6 let alone pc3500.
If i had to guess seeing as you have very good pc3500 you maybe able to get 225- 230ish with those timings,and in my opinion those are high numbers for those ram timings.

AMD64 3200+ & MSI Neo FIS2R. Working great after some problems!!

Hi all... after have some troubles with my new computer, now all is working near to OK.
(EDIT: I've changed my sig because I've done many changes to my PC. The memory I had before was 2x512 VDATA pc3200)
As you can see in my sig my power suply is PATHETIC (+12V ~10 amps) but the system runs fine, doing desktop work or playing new 3D games (as Far Cry, or some older as IL2 Forgotten Battles, or BF1942 + DC + Forgotten hope).
(EDIT:The PSU I had before was one of these bad PSUs included with the case). Now I've an Antec 480W PSU
The solution was to reduce the RAM velocity from 400Mhz to 333Mhz of my VDATA Dimms. I know it sucks, but I've changed the timings and voltage too, but It didn't work. Only reducing the RAM velocity has been the solution for the unwanted reboot. About the reboot... my PC only rebooted when I tried to play 3D games, not in desktop work. It happened some minutes after begin to play.
No need to say I've installed all the lastest versions & fixes for OS, GPU, Mobo, Bios, etc.
I know I'd have to change the power suply, and get new RAM to get the 400Mhz velocity. I'll change the RAM in few days (I'm looking for memory which had been tested by MSI succesfully). I'll buy a power suply later.

Hi all... yesterday I bought a new PSU: Antec Power true (blue) 480. As you can see at my updated sig it has 22 amps. in the +12V Rail.
I'm very sad, because the RAM problem is not solved!!!
I've tried again diferent settings CAS, TRAS, etc. I've set 1.7V in the AGP and 2.7 in the DDR. I've tried only with 1 of the DIMMS, and changing the 2nd dimm to 3rd slot. But the only solution to get an stable system when I'm gonna play is under-clocking the memory speed to 333 MHz.
I think now you can't say that the problem is the PSU...
Any ideas?
Anyone knows where I can get some information about this VDATA memory? I've found the website of ADATA memory. I suppose is the same memory, but there isn't info about the settings (CAS, TRAS...) you have to set in the bios to get it works fine.

It seems like that:
Ammm.. other questions. I can see in MSI corecenter that VCore has 1.550 V, and its shown in red. I haven't overclocked that volts value at bios. It's set as AUTO. SiSoft Sandra tests says it's not a good value for the VCore. Is it normal?
And Corecenter and CPU-Z says that my processors is 2000 MHz (10x200). This value never changed. I thought cool n' quiet changed the FAN speed, but I thought that it changed the CPU velocity too. What can you say about it?
(EDIT)-> About the CPU velocity. I have seen in other thread that if I enable Cool n' quiet in bios and I set to "minimal" the power management profile in Windows XP energy options, the CPU velocity will change on application's demand (from ~800 MHz to 2000MHz). I had the CnQ enable, but not the minimal power management profile, so it was at 2000MHz and didn't change. Now it works!!
Anyway, I thought my CPU default velocity was 2200MHz not 2000. Anybody can say me if 2000 is the default velocity of AMD 64 3200+ (Clawhammer)?

Microphone problem - MSI NEO FIS2r

My microphone is not working anymore :
Situation :
- Realtek_ALC5970 installed
- Mic muted in Volume control
- Mic selected in Recording control
- When I use the wizard via control panel > sounds and audio devices I can not increase the mic volume, it automatically drops to the lowest level
- When I try to record sound, I have this :
- I tried installing Via Vinyl Codec, and got this :
- The mic works, I tested it on another computer
Can anyone give me some tips ?

- Already uninstalled Realtek driver and installed Via Vinyl Coded. No result
- even installed realtek over Vinyl Codec (read it on another forum). no result
- Installed realtek driver on a clean windows 64-bit installation. mic not working
- mic is plugged in completely
I got once a small result :
- turned of Mute mic in volume control
- selected stereo mixer in recording control
Then I heard myself through the speakers, but my correspondent heard me 'far away'
I am not able to reproduce that however. But that gives me some hope that it has to do with drivers, but I have no ideas left of installing and uninstalling them.

MSI NEO fis2r with promise raid and 4 SATA disks?

I have been trying to figure this out.....
I want to have a striping across 4 sata disks 3x250gb and
1x120gb.
I also want my IDE CD-ROM to work.
I can't seem to find the right combo in the Bios on how to set it up
and when I get the raid setup screen it only shows 2 drives not 4.
Anyone?

So in short i cannot have 4 SATA drives in a raid since the promise controller only supports 2...
I should be able to put in 4 sata drives in the machine and software raiding them or make them dynamic disks.
Well that blows! Guess I have to go out and buy a 4-port sata raid card.

If I set timings to higher values e.g. 3-5-5-10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login

I found a few interesting things last night. 1st, I was having a problem with my CPU and Northbridge fans throttling down to about 1/3 speed after a few minutes of use. I disabled the Northbridge and CPU target fan settings in BIOS. You can find these options in the System Health menu of your BIOS. Also, if you have enabled the "Optimized" option in your BIOS, please disable it and set to "manual". The only option I've found to help is to select "Aggessive" timings for your memory. It doesn't change your speed in the BIOS for some reason, but it does do something else because my memory bandwidth is about 60 more with this setting enabled instead of disabled (3430 Int / 3430 Float in Sandra 04 versus 3493 / 3496 with the setting enabled. OF ALL THINGS MAKE SURE TO DISABLE THE "OPTIMIZED" function and leave it set at manual. Also, shoot me your current memory timings one more time. Are you using BIOS rev. 1.4? Let me know. Sorry it takes so long between posts, but I check from both work and home and it's usually several hours between getting chances to check for updated posts. I didn't have to reduce the HT setting on my overclock (I'm still running 4X), but I've read several posts where a setting of 3X will help if you're having problems o/cing. Also, on your memory timings make sure and set your DRAM to FSB ratio at Auto. This allows the memory to sync with your FSB speed. And, I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but be sure to set your AGP speed to 67 (66 is the default). At a setting at 67 it will positively lock your PCI and AGP clocks to 67 and 33 respectively, making sure that you aren't overstressing any of your PCI devices or you video card.

[MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R] 2xCMX512-3200 DDR400 memories (corsair)

I have this motherboard:MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R (MS-6702) and currently i'm using a Kingston memory and the computer runs fine. But i've buyed TWINX1024-3200 (2xCMX512-3200 DDR400) but when I put only this memories the computer after some time or when booting restart suddenly...
Could it be about the bios version, my actual version is v1.0 and I'm using AMI BIOS.

2 sticks of DDR400 Corsair XMS memory (CMX512-3200C2) 512mb each (total 1gig)
Any combination of memory together does not allow the motherboard to boot. I get no beeping or warning sounds. Everything powers up but the display remains blank.
Things I have tried in many different combinations:
TRCD = 5, 4, 3, auto
DDR Voltage = Auto, 2.7, 2.65
DDR 200, DDR 300, DDR 333, Auto
Memory in bank 1+2, 1+3, 2+3
Along with those bios setting combinations, I have tried using several bios versions:
v2.2
v2.0
v1.9
v1.8
v1.4 <--- (Stuck with this bios for the moment, since the ami flashing utility HANGS when attempting to erase the boot block in step 2 of flashing procedure for any newer bios.)
As a consequence of several days of trying unsuccessfully to get both sticks of memory to work, I have given up hope on this motherboard.
Why is it so difficult to get two sticks of memory working properly on this motherboard?
Has anyone got another trick or technique or setting I can try that may work?
Alternatives:
Scrap the MSI motherboard -- never buy another piece of MSI crap again.
Buy a single stick of 1gig memory.
Buy a new motherboard from another manufacturer known to work properly -- at the very least not have these memory configuration issues.
Worst motherboard experience I have ever had, unfortunately.

Neo-FIS2R (i875) Questions and overclockability

I just got this board, looks sweet, have all the features and all that.... but I still have a few questions.
First my system:
Chieftec 420Watt psu (tried a 520Watt and a 550Watt psu as well).
MSI Neo-FIS2R bios 1.6
2 x 512Mb Twinmos PC3200 CAS 2.5 (with winbond CH-5 chips).
P4 2,6C Phillipines With Alpha PAL8942T with a pretty powerful 8x8cm fan. Arctic Silver 3 paste used.
ATI Radeon 8500 Pro
Audigy 2
2 x 80gig in raid at onboard promise controller.
WinXP Pro SP1.
Now onto the questions:
CPU temp:
In bios it says 37-38 deg C
In PC Wizard (from www.cpuid.com) it says 27-28 deg C.
In Motherboard monitor, newest version it says:
Sensor 1 set to winbond 1 = 27-28 deg C
Sensor 2 set to winbond 2 = 53-54 deg C
Sensor 3 set to winbond 3 = 66-67 deg C!!!! :O
What is correct and where is those sensors placed? As 66-67 deg C seems to be wrong?
And why do it not boot when I put in my Silicon Image 680 IDE controller? Tried all bios settings and different PCI slots.
I tried to OC my CPU to 3,25GHz but failed = I get a BSOD after a while in Windows or windows locks up. PCI/AGP is locked to 34/68MHz, MEM is set to DDR333 so actually the memory is running at 400MHz @ 2,5-4-4-8 (verified with CPU-Z). Tried upping V-Core up to as high as 1,7V (won't go higher due to risk of damaging CPU) Tried upping DDR and AGP voltage as well, still no change. It works great at 2,8GHz though with DDR at 430MHz
Any ideas? Or did I just get a less overclockable CPU or a crappy mobo?
And why do the voltages show up as very varying? V-Core changes from 1,528 to 1,587 when set to 1,550V, other voltages do also vary a lot.... Tried 3 different high quality PSU's so that should not cause it. My previous asus board showed way more stable voltages.
Is the build quality of this board any good? As varying voltages and overclocking sems to vary a lot....
Yes and I'm annoyed with the mem performance and problem with manually setting the memory timings at higher FSB's. Fix will hopefully come. Highest mem score so far is 4,9K

It's known problem MSI boards do not register tempratures right. It could however be resolved by another BIOS update.
So don't worry.

Voltages always vary as they depend on the total powerconsumption of the system.

Well, you are an early adopter of this new technology, there are always little problems with brand new products like these.

You could always try to exchange to board, but i'd suggest you sit this one out. Asus itself isn't without problems. Take a look around the different forums around the world.
If you're really anxious to try something else, try the MSI 865 Neo2 FIS2R.

HyperX PC3200, Neo Fis2R Compatability

I am thinking of running Kingston HyperX PC3200 DDR400 memory on my machine. I currently am running 512mb of it and it works great. When I get paid next, I am planning on buying some more. The Neo Fis2r holds up to 3 dimms of ram, so I was planning on putting in 1.5GB of ram and turning off my vmem to boost preformance.
My question is, with the Neo Fis2R support 1500mb of this ram? I have been looking at some posts, and a lot of people have had some memory problems. I would rather not have to return the memory after I buy it and realize it doesnt work. If you have any idea, or know of a place to look for an answer to this, it would be very appriciated. Thanks!

Ive read above that there is a 2 Dimm DDR400 limit or something like that. Does that mean the I can only run 2 dimms?
I dont want a preformance decline by switching to 200 or 333, but want 1.5 running at 400. Is there anyway to do this?
Would buying a 1gb dimm at 400 solve this. Having 1.5, but using only 2 dimms? If so, are there any cheaper kingston 1gb dimms out there?
I would rather not have to do that, But I would rather have an alternive. Any ideas?

875P Neo-FIS2R: Memory stays at 333MHz

I recently assembled a new system with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R motherboard. The specs are as follows: Pentium 4C 3GHz 800MHz FSB, 1GB Samsung PC3500 Cas 2 DDR. The problem is I can't seem to get the memory to run at 400MHz, no matter what BIOS I use. The memory is capable of running at 433MHz with the tightest timings, yet I can't even get it beyond 333MHz. Please help me!

I bought the MSI Neo-FIS2R last weekend, together with a pair of Corsair XMS3500C2 256M memories & a P4 3.0C processor. Darned expensive kit, but I was impressed with all the features on the MSI board, and I decided to go for the performance RAM to squeeze every last drop of performance out. The Cosair modules are supposedly guaranteed to do 434MHz 2-3-3-7-T1.

My board came with 1.1 Bios, and I've flashed to 1.2 Bios.
In my experience over the past week with this board, the Bios is totally hosed. It just doesn\'t do anything. I can get terrific boot screens, 3.6Ghz, 3.8Ghz, but nothing really happens as far as overclock.
And the same thing is true for memory. I can change the memory settings all I want to, and Sandra and Aida give the same results. And, these results are not as good as the reference data for other 875P systems in Sandra and Aida. It appears MSI bios is simply running these Corsairs at Bios default timings 2.5-4-4-8 and nothing I do can change this.
Corecell does produce some overclock changes, but I don\'t like Corecell. Computer bluescreens, have to clear CMOS. Start Corecell again, bluescreen, clear CMOS. Repeat until tired of this.
Nice kit, but way too expensive for the performance I'm getting. Hope they fix it, or this stuff goes back.

RAM and NEO-FIS2R

Hello,
My first time here, and i've read through a large portion of the already available posts, but nothing so far have i found to solve my problem.
I recently bought the MSI NEO-FIS2R board along with an Athlon64 3200+. I also purchased 1gig (2x512) Kingston HyperX PC3200, ECC Registered. I cant for the life of me, get it to boot with both DIMMs installed, either work, but not both.
I've toyed with timeing and bus ect per the posts on this board, but nothing so far. Anyone with some specific advice?

i havent got an msi motherboard but an asus.
I recently bought 2x 512 400 ddr from Corsair and the system only loads up with one stick and not the other. Tied to do lot of combination by putting in slot 2 and 3 etc put with no further sucess.
In fact some motherboard like mine do not recommend these types or ram memory so i had to get a refund.
is this ram is supported by msi motherboard?

Liveupdate2 crashes in WinXp pro and Neo-fis2r

When I install liveMonitor with liveupdate 2 it will crash after the reboot, stating that the hardware monitor cannot be initialized and that there are errors. After I click these error messages away it just reboots.
I tried admin account, still same error message, but no reboot! And when I deinstall Liveupdate 2 again, the corecenter won't work anymore either!
NOTE: at this point all other drivers are already installed (ie. Soundblaster etc.), including MSI corecenter and the infoviewer.
I have a brand new PIV 2.8 ghz, msi Neo-fis2r, SB Audigy 2, 120 Gig HDD, Toshiba DVD SD-1502, 512 ddr ram.
Is anyone familiar with WIN XP or this problem? Could use it... THNX!!!

Well, I have the problems like yours. After long time researching. I find out that both programs (corecenter and life update) have services that need to be started before loading the corecenter program and life monitor.
So what i did was just remove it to be auto load at windows startup. but instate, wait till all the windows fully loaded then only load those program.
