  • Message before posting new thread

How about displaying a message before posting new threads in abap devlopment forums which tells the members to use search button before posting new threads.
I think this may improve the quality of forums to an extent.
Plz give ur comment on this.

I think most people who answer simple questions do so because they are genuinely trying to help and are perhaps not familiar with the type of user IDs who ask such questions.
But they should heed the warnings (in most cases they realize this themselves before a warning is required). I also know a numer of people who stop visiting SDN when they realize this, and that is a big pity.
Users who carry on and on and on without heeding the warnings are deleted as well. This has happened already and there are two more in the pipeline. But Guestification is a last resort and not a perfect one either. It is only really effective when points are the reason for the misuse.
I am sure that without a points system in its current form we would have less noise, but we would only eliminate the childish points gamers.
What I think we need to work on is further improving the reputation of the SDN forums for quality content.
Eg. when someone posts something which is incorrect or questionable, then question it (politely as possible / appropriate).
That way people who answer will realize that their accounts have a track record for questionable quality, and will think twice before posting some bla-bla-bla or not reading the question carefully => if the question is "What is reports and tables" then when thinking twice, they wont answer at all....
    Cheers,
    Julius
PS: I will start drafting a sticky thread for FAQs and memorable discussions, and then we can make a team effort of contributing to it and the mods can update it as appropriate.

  • Why am I required to register BEFORE posting a question?

    Hello,
In the recent past, I always saw a notation that anyone who wanted to post a question was NOT required to register before posting a question. Now all of a sudden, I would like to know why.

New rules and new forum software.

  • PLEASE report what you've already tried when posting problems/questions!

A lot of threads have a common theme:
    (1) The first post describes a problem, or asks a question.
    (2) The second (or third, or fourth) post suggests doing or trying something.
    (3) The next response, from the original poster, says "Oh, I already tried that!"
Please, when describing a problem or asking a question, be reasonably detailed about the scenario, what you did, what results you got, WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY TRIED, etc.
Vague undetailed problems/questions, not describing the N steps you've already taken to try to resolve it, etc. just waste time and bandwidth all around!
    Doug

    Hi Doug;
If we are going to start of list of things NOT to do when posting a question, the one I always think is the absolute silliest is when they say I am having trouble with an application and never ever tell up what application they are talking about as if we have a crystal ball which is going to tell us what mythical application it is. Well it turns out generally my crystal ball is foggy just then so I have to ask what are you talking about here.
    Allan

  • Other MSI Products - before posting, please read

    Hi there!
This forum is where you can find help for all the other little devices that MSI produces that don't have a home elsewhere in this forum.
These devices include MegaPlayer, MegaStick and MegaView MP3 / Portable Media Players, and MSI's communication devices, such as Bluetooth dongles and Wireless LAN routers & cards as well as StarCam, MegaCache, PocketDTV etc.
Before posting your question, read the Forum Rules, and use the button to see if your question has been answered already. But please don't hijack old dead threads, start your own new topic, giving as much information as you can, as well as what you have tried already. Posting to a two year old thread saying "i have same problem, did you ever fix it??" won't help at all. Read any stickies that have been posted here already, they may contain valuable information to solve your problem.
Have you read the manual? The manual supplied with your product is usually just a multi-language Quick Guide. Look on MSI's Product Support Pages (http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodindex). You can find updated complete manuals, which will usually contain more information than the one supplied in the box. You would be surprised how many questions posted here can be answered just by looking in the manual! You can also find the latest drivers and firmware there, as well as popular FAQs.
If your problem is related to using your device with your PC, then please post full system specs, in case your problem is actually caused by your PC.
There's a good possibility that as this is a user-to-user forum, and no-one from MSI visits here, there are no answers yet, or nobody is able to help you yet. In that case, your best option is to contact MSI Support themselves, and see if they can help you with your problem.
Find MSI Support links here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=107326.0
Please note, that when contacting MSI Support, you should describe the problem as clearly as you would here, and give as much background information as you can. If you write to them "my MegaStick doesn't work, what can i do", then don't complain if you get a stock generic reply back from them .
Please, if you get an answer from MSI that solves your problem, or helps you to fix the problem yourself, join the helper's club here and post your solution, so that others can benefit from your wisdom!
    Thank you, and good luck!

sorry, think i must have slipped on something

  • HELP! PLEASE READ THIS!

    Hi,
Before posting your question in this forum, please make sure that you:
1.looked at the Portal FAQ: http://otn.oracle.com/products/iportal/htdocs/portal_faq.htm
    2. searched through the archive
Chances are that most of the questions were answered before.
This will help us, a lot, to eliminate the duplicated questions answered over and over again, and will save more time to answer new questions.
    Thank you!
    Dmitry

Thanks for all the help roam!! You hear about hard drives crashing, but you never think it will happen to you, until it's too late. Unfortunately, that happened to me today... but, I bought an external hard drive a few months back and had backed up the majority of my important files at that time (THANK GOD!!). I had a ton of music on my iTunes, photos in my iPhoto, and TONS of favorite bookmarks organized in my Safari that I'm pretty sure were not backed up on my external harddrive (but at least all my graphic design files were saved on my external). I think I'll chalk this one up to the lesser of two evils and count my blessings. It could've been much worse than it is. Thanks again though for your assistance.
    Take care,

    Before Posting:
Is your sound card not working? Do you need advice on what to try to fix it? Then you are at the right place. Before posting your question, there are a few things you will want to check first.
Perhaps your question has already been asked and answered. Thousands of questions have been asked and are all stored here on the forums. Right above that orange navigation bar is the search bar, try searching for what you are experiencing. If there is a thread but it doesn't answer your question, check the date, if it is several weeks since the last reply it would be better to name a new thread then resurrect the dead thread.
Also before posting collect as much information about your card as possible. Get the model number off of the card/device itself and also the inkstamp number (found on an inkstamp or silkscreen on the non-chip side of the card) if you have a sound card. Please note that if you have a card that was preinstalled in your computer by the manufacturer or you bought the card in a brown box or static bag that it is most likely an OEM card. In cases like these it may be best to contact the retailer or the manufacturer (don't forget to check their forums if they have them) for support as the cards can be very different from the retail versions.
    Lost CD, Need Drivers:
Standalone drivers are available for many of our sound cards and devices on our website. The best way to check is to go to Support/Downloads and select your product from the list and click next. Then you select your Operating System from the drop box (keep the other options on their defaults) and click go. The very first section should be the driver listings. Just because a driver says that it is an update, doesn't mean that it isn't a standalone driver. The best way to check is to click on the details button and read the requirements section. If it doesn't say that it requires previous drivers then it is most likely stand alone and is worth installing. These standalone drivers usually include a configuration utility called "CTpanel.exe" that a quick search of your drive after install will locate. You can use this to set the card up.
If your card does not list standalone drivers then you will want to contact support to obtain an install CD.
If your card is OEM, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your system or the retailer you purchased it from for the install CD. There can be major differences between retail and OEM models and the retailer or manufacturer are provided with drivers specific to the card they are distributing.
    Standard Troubleshooting:
If you are going to ask a question, there are a few standard troubleshooting steps that are suggested for almost any problem. You should really check them out before posting a question as it can save you a lot of time waiting on replies.
First off, try a cleansweep and reinstall of your card. Often all that the card needs is a fresh start. The steps for this are found in these Knowledgebase articles:
Uninstalling Sound Blaster Drivers and Applications(Windows Vista)
    Uninstalling Creative Disc Detector
    Uninstalling Sound Blaster PCI Cards
Uninstalling PCMCIA Sound Blaster Devices in Windows XP
Uninstalling ExpressCard Sound Blaster Devices in Windows XP
If that doesn't work, not all is lost. There are many standard troubleshooting steps that are used for almost all problems. Fortunately we have a separate Kbase article that covers these steps. It even has suggestions for specific problems. Here is that link:
    http://support.creative.com/kb/showa....aspx?sid=2538
Popping Clicking, Hissing, and Other Sound anomalies:
Perhaps your question is about a popping, clicking, or hissing sound that your card seems to be generating. If so, then this article is for you. The sound optimization article:
    http://support.creative.com/kb/showa...aspx?sid=46913
    If Nothing Above Works:
One last thing to try would be to clean boot your version of Windows. Perhaps an application is getting in the way of the card working correctly. Try it and see if the card works when clean booting into Windows. If so then something that is starting up is interfering with the card.

Boston Acoustic Digital Speakers or Prebuilt System With a Digital Live! Card
Some name brand systems shipped with a special Live! Value card that was made to work with digital speakers. If you system shipped with a Live! Value and you have digital speakers you will need to use drivers provided by your system manufacturer. If you use the drivers on the Creative website your card will no longer work with your digital speakers.
If you have a set of Boston Acoustic digital speakers that came with your system and they are not working with your sound card, make sure you have it connected to the digital out on the card. Also make sure that the digital out is enabled.
    If None of this helps:
If none of this helps, then it is probably time to go ahead and post your question. Make sure to let everyone know what you have already tried from this article, otherwise you may get responses suggesting you try them again.
    Above all else, don't panic.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies - 'God [darn] it, you've got to be kind."

There's a small discussion on the Asus forums about this issue here:
    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20052602425373&board_id=&model=A8V&pa ge=&SLanguage=en-us
I'm extremely certain this has nothing to do with Creative. I recently tried a Turtle Beach Riviera 5. sound card in my Asus A8V board with the same poor result. Onboard sound works fine as long as you remove the PCI card. Oddly, the four sound cards I've tried (three by Creative) work fine on the same MB using Windows 98. Only Windows XP has this issue, but since it works fine if you restart/wake up from standby/or hit F0 after entering the BIOS, it's obviously directly related to the BIOS.
Since this problem has gone on for so long with no acknowledgment from Asus, I'm not very hopeful this will ever get fixed. I've considered trying an M-Audio Revolution 5. and see if that works, but I know it's a long shot. I'm also not sure if I want to risk close to $00 on a sound card that I figure has a 0% chance of working.
(If ANYONE out there in the world has a sound card that works with games on an Asus A8V - please, please, pretty please post in this forum so we can all go out and get it!)
It absolutely amazes me that a problem this significant slipped by Asus during their supposed "4,000 dedicated man hours" of testing!

As long as you use the 32 Bit version of LabVIEW, there should be no problem. The LabVIEW binary files for Windows 7 32 Bit and Windows XP are exactly the same. The major difference in terms of LabVIEW is the more restrictive nature of Windows 7 which prevents you from doing a lot of things without explicit UAC elevation, even in the administrator account. Once you modified your software to comply with that, it will still run on XP. Just watch out to not use hardwired OS paths. Windows 7 changed a lot of the naming conventions but even in XP the windows or system directory doesn't have to be always the same.
For your settings directory (INI files, etc) use the the according LabVIEW constant.

More details found on this site about Classic and Rosetta:
    http://daringfireball.net/2005/06/classicnotsupported
Rosetta is designed to translate currently shipping applications that run on a PowerPC with a G3 processor and that are built for Mac OS X.
Rosetta does not run the following:
Applications built for Mac OS 8 or 9
    Code written specifically for AltiVec
Code that inserts preferences in the System Preferences pane
Applications that require a G4 or G5 processor
Applications that depend on one or more kernel extensions
    Kernel extensions
Bundled Java applications or Java applications with JNI libraries that can’t be translated
    Classic is just not supported.
It is clear that apps that need the G4, G5 or Altivec Code won't run under Rosetta.

  • Search in SCN before posting

    Hi All,
I am new to SCN and I can see lot of discussions about the same topic sometimes which leads to repetition.
Is there any way where we can search in the SCN forum before posting our questions.
I am asking about the option like as in SAP Service marketplace, where we can search for the existing notes before raising the OSS message to SAP.
If not, Is it possible to implement the same kind of option in SCN that would save lot of time for the members too.
    Regards,
    Thanga

    Hi,
on Google, if you search with similar words you will get already discussed threads or available pdfs/docs/blogs.
on SCN, Go to your particular forum,Content,Enter similar words to search you may get recent threads.
I used SAP Netweaver BW forum, content - search word - 0recordmode.
Like that way you can search on SCN.
    Thanks

  • BEFORE posting, please read this!!

Before posting in this forum, I urge you to read though GlennVidia's sticky post Suggestions on posting and getting better answers and also hpkuo's A collection of tips and tricks
also to new users, please create a signature in the User Control Panel listing your system specifications.
too many people are posting questions like "MSIPVS don't work, please help" but if you don't tell us what your system is, its like asking your GP to diagnose medical problems over the phone - ie, guesswork!! also it helps if you give us your location, ie Seattle, USA; Norwich, UK; Kabul, Afghanistan; for local TV issues.
any users with the MS8606 TV@nywhere Master should first try the Unofficial BETA drivers for this product listed in my sticky at the top of this forum, looking through the release notes for this, it fixes many problems that users have posted about.
plus make sure all your system and vga drivers are up-to-date, here are some links:

For ATI chipset and display drivers:

    Installation of MSIPVS:
Download and install the latest drivers for your MSI TV Tuner (either from MSI or the BETA drivers if you are using TV@nywhere Master). After installing the drivers, please RESTART your PC (the installer won't prompt you to do this) BEFORE you install the MSIPVS or MediaCentre III software.
MSIPVS (or other InterVideo software) won't work if Windows has been installed to a partition other than C:, Mega PC users should disable the card reader by either unplugging it from the motherboard, or temporarily disabling the USB controller in BIOS before installing Windows to ensure it sees drive C: as default installation drive.
This should avoid any "antenna & afghanistan" default configurations in MSIPVS, but please ensure your correct region and TV standard settings are selected, and the correct cable / antenna connection is selected.
    Mega PC series
Users using a Mega series barebone PC with MediaCentre III (ugh) should also search through the Mega PC series forum for further assistance there.
    Hope this helps
