Please recommend a CF card reader for Mac

I have a iMac (Intel) desktop and also a Windows based PC. I use the newer Mac to process JPEG photos in Lightroom 3, but here's the catch: most of the time my older Sandisk ImageMate 8-in-1 CF reader does not show up in LR3 (I connect the USB plug directly to the back of the Mac's USB slot). It works just fine with the PC. So it may be a hardware problem and I am willing to invest in a new Mac compatible card reader. My Mac runs on OS X (Lion).
Can someone recommend a Mac OS X-compatible CF card reader? I'm getting desperate.

While it is highly probable that getting a new reader will fix your problem one thing in your post gives me pause. You say that most of the time it doesn't show up, but sometimes it does?
You would think that a comparability problem would be an either or situation. It either works or it doesn't. I would check out a few things first before buying a new reader.
First I'd try a different cable, even if this cable works OK on the PC. Second would be to use a differtn USB port on the Mac. Then I would open Image Capture and see if the reader shows up there. Finally open System Information (in te Utilities folder) and in the hardware section select USB with the card reader attached. See if it shows up in the devices.

  • Could anyone recommend a reliable card reader for my MacBook Pro please?

    Hi,
Looking for a reliable card reader for compact flash and SD cards for my MacBook Pro.  Would anyone be able to recommend one please?  Most reviews I've read only seem to mention Windows and I'm not sure whether they are Mac compatible.
    Many thanks, Karen

    Karen,
Hi, what year is you macbook pro?  Is it the Early 2008 one with the grey keyboard, or the newer ones with black keys?  If you have the grey keyboard macbook pro I use the Sandisk card reader:
For the newer MacBook Pro's a usb card reader works well in addition to the sd card reader built in the MacBook Pro.  They are making thunderbolt card readers now for a low price:http://computers.pricegrabber.com/flash-memory-readers-accessories/SmartDisk-THU NDERBOLT-SD-STICK-WRITER-USB/m16520521.html

  • Plz Recommend an "Automatic" Torrent Downloader for Mac/OSX Yosemite

Hello. I was hoping somebody could please recommend an "Automatic" Torrent Downloader for Mac/OSX Yosemite..
I know that there are a few options out there, but most of them seem to be directed towards TV Shows.. which isn't a problem, but I was hoping for one that could be used for pretty much anything.. like applications, music, movies, TV shows, ****, whatever..
Basically, something where you could enter a "keyword" or "artist", for example, and have it automatically add whatever new torrents come up in whatever specific parameters you set (so you could basically set a music artist's name, for example, and specify music only, so that it's not downloading every video, image, or whatever that also contains that "keyword")..
Does something like this exist for Mac/OS X Yosemite? Would really love a recommendations! Thank you!

  • Recommend an SD Card reader,

I have been using a dazzle card reader, pretty old now and big, but it is easy recognised by my OSX.10.5, I have tried using a stick on-USB2 brought off ebay-just does not work? can you recommend a SD card reader for OSX 10.5?

There's a previous thread with many recommendations, I have the Sandisk Extreme Reader (USB2)that comes with a little stand, and it works 'awesome' with the MacPro and PC.

  • Card reader for new Mac Pro?

what is a good card reader for the new Mac pro?

First this is the MacBook Pro forum, Notebook forum. Do you have a MacBool Pro Notebook or a Mac Pro Desktop?
Anyway any card reader made by one of the major CF/SD/MicroSD memory card manufacturers will work. Connecting to your Mac computer by USB, Firewire (If your Mac puter has a Firewire port) or even Thunderbolt if there are any that connect that way. As for USB connection you won't see much difference between USB 2 or 3. The cards limit the transfer speed more than the connection type.

  • CF Card Reader for new Mac Pro

I just ordered a MacPro and I was wondering where I would get a CF card reader for it. I also have SD cards. Is there a good multi-function card reader out there?

If you have a high resolution camera, this is the only reader to have. I use it with my Canon 30D and it is extremely fast. Comes with two cables, one firewire 800, and a firewire 400 cable.

  • Hi anyone. Can I buy an SD card reader for my old Powerbook G4, OSX, 10.4.11 and it's only USB. I've never needed one previously but I now need to update the firmware on my camera. Can I get one, if so which one's best? Many thanks.

    Hi anyone.

    Hello,
If it is a PowerBook G4 with a PC Card slot, you have two possibilities. You could buy a USB card reader for SD, or a PC Card adapter (such as SanDisk's 6-in-1adapter). Please note that you are or may be limited to plain SD (that is, not SDHC) unless otherwise noted. For a USB reader, make sure that it has Mac support. BTW, is an SD card absolutely necessary for the firmware update; is there not a way of updating via cable? If you post back with the camera model, someone may be able to provide additional information.

  • Why can't I use/build an SD card reader for iPhone?

I have searched and searched for an SD card reader for iPhone. Apple offers the camera connection kit for iPad but for some reason they have made it incompatible with iPhone. This doesn't make a whole lot of since to me unless they are trying to drive users to buy an iPad. So far I have only found one SD card reader that claims to work on iPhone: http://www.zoommediaplus.com/index.html . If they have actually made it work with iPhone and the app is in the App Store then Apple must allow apps to transffer data from SD cards. If so I can make one myself and build the hardware to go with it since the Apple SD card reader doesn't work on iPhone.
I guess my main questions are:
Does Apple allow SD Card readers for iPhone?
         if not:
              Why don't they?
Can anyone tell me where it is documented that you can not use SD Cart readers with iPhone?
How does ZoomMediaPlus get their app in the App Store if it isn't allowed?
         if they do:
Why aren't their more SD Card readers for iPhone?
Why doesn't Apple's lightning SD Card read work with iPhone?

Of course they forbid it.  You realize that an iPhone 6+ owner cannot use the Apple Lightning SD Card Reader, don't you?  We know the support for their own SD Card Reader is built into iOS 8 because it works with iPads.  Therefore, Apple intentionally turned the support OFF for iPhones.
and it appears no one else has bothered to attempt to produce one
No, Apple forbids any third parties from producing one.  They produce them for iPads but they cannot work on iPhones, because Apple chooses not to permit such functionality (i.e., they forbid it).  Third parties produce such adapters for Android, so obviously they would want to do the same for iOS so they could sell more.
You're recommendation for AirStash is uninformed.  I've tried it and found it to be a clunky time-consuming workaround if all you want to do is import some photos from an SD card.  Using Photos in iOS to import photos is a far more elegant solution - an Apple solution that just works (if you purchased an iPad).
If it bothers you that iPhones do not work with Apple's own Lightning SD Card Reader, then I suggest you leave feedback instead of attacking those who point it out:

  • HT202807 I have a MB Air 128gb and a Time Cap.802.11AC. My HD is maxed out because of 30GB of photo storage after migration to 10.3.3 Photos. Please recommend an external drive best for connecting to TC and moving the iPhoto Lib off my HD

I have a 13" mid 2011 MB Air 128gb and a Time Cap.802.11AC. My HD is maxed out because of 30GB of photo storage after migration to 10.10.3 Photos. I have reduced apps and files as much as possible so the only thing left is to move the photos.  Please recommend an external drive compatible for connecting to my TC 802.11ac and moving the iPhoto Lib off my HD which will free approx 15 gbs. of space. I don't plan on using it for any other purpose so a small capacity drive will suffice. I know the "optimization" is supposed to adjust for this condition but I don't trust that assertion.I only have 2gb free space remaining.

I don't plan on using it for any other purpose so a small capacity drive will suffice.
If you really only want such a small capacity drive.. what about just buying a 32GB or 64GB USB memory stick.
You should still have a back up to the internal hard disk of the AC TC.
Or just buy a WD Passport.. don't waste your money buying 500GB as it is only a bit more to buy 1TB and a bit more again for 2TB.. For future use if you do buy a USB hard disk buy 2.5" type.. and buy 1TB or if the budget stretches 2TB..

  • Adobe Reader for Mac messes up my mouse driver

After installing the latest version of Adobe Reader for Mac on Tiger 10.4, viewing any .pdf file has the effect of changing many of my single mouse clicks into double mouse clicks until reboot.  It begins when I click on the page-down sidebar and the reader jumps ahead two pages.  Next, randomly about 80% of my mouse clicks become double-clicks in any application until I reboot.  I thought I had seen this problem in an earlier version but it seemed to resolve itself.  With the latest reader, right after reading a .pdf file I have the double-click problem.
I've dragged everything I could find from Adobe into the trash bin and use "Preview" to view pdf file.  No double-click problem.

If you subscribed you will get a new email for every post here. Otherwise you have to manually check. What you are seeing is not typical. I'd try the typical troubleshooting techniques.
    1) Fixing Permissions.
    2) Emptying various system caches.
I'd recommend you get a copy of Applejack. It can do all that and find disk directory issues. Cost is reasonable---free.

  • What is the best cf card reader for ipad 3 available in uk

what is the best compact flash reader for the ipad 3, available in the uk that works with ios6.  thks

You asked about CF, which is Compact Flash (which is larger than and different from SD cards). CF is used typically in higher end digital cameras.
Here is the CF reader I recommend:
Hoodman USB 3.0 Raw Steel UDMA Card Reader for CompactFlash and SD Cards
    http://www.adorama.com/HNRAWUSB3.html?utm_source=ET&utm_medium=TransactionalEmai l&utm_campaign=2point0Product1
(also available from other sellers, including Amazon and many camera stores simply stock it on their shelf)
This product reads two kinds of cards -- CF and SD. It is very good at doing those two things (as opposed to cheap readers that read 20+ types of cards and are flimsy and don't work all that well and don't last).
This Hoodman device is ruggedly built, largely metal, and has a special pin guard "drop door" that protects the numerous delicate pins in the reader from accidental damage, which is what often happens to these CF readers -- namely a few of the many delicate pins get bent unintentionally after a period of use. This has been the bane of CF and its readers, those many delicate pins. This Hoodman design directly addresses the issue and from the reviews I've read and my daughter's experience with it, they seem to have succeeded.
It comes with USB 3.0, which is very fast (if you have the 3.0 port), and it works as USB 2.0 if you have the older interface. It reads the latest and fastest of the CF cards as well.

  • Best media card reader for iphoto?

What is the best mediat card reader for a Macbook (unibody white) with USB connection.

I don't know if it's best but I bought a Targus High Speed SD/SDHC/MMC reader from WalMart. It's small, great for traveling, and plugs into a USB port.  Works very well.  About $10 as I recall.

  • SD Card Reader for IPod Touch

Is anybody aware of the availability of an SD Card Reader for an iPod Touch?
    Thanks In Advance

There would need to be a downloaded application from Apple's ApStore, which would link to a card reader that fits into the charging/sync port at the bottom of the Touch. So far, nothing like that's been developed that we're aware of, and we're not sure Apple would even allow it because it would be an insecure route to transfer data/programs into the Touch or iPhone. Everything (so far)has to be ported to the device through the ApStore.
An SD card reader would be very useful for dongle-based applications or data readers, especially for PocketPC users.
