Please recommend Linux Distro for 9ids installation

Has anyone successfully installed 9ids (9.0.2) on a linux distro other than Redhat AS 2.1 and SuSe SLES7.
If so what distro and version. Any additional packages needed? I have followed the installation instructions and have attempted its intall on several different distributions and have been unsuccessful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

why dont you go for debian, it has a wonderfull package management system called dpkg, and also uses "apt" to get packages and it resolves dependencies if broken, go for it you wont be desapointed.

Thanks in advanceWhat do you plan on doing with it?
If you're looking to learn Oracle then i would ditch ASM as a starting point (it'll complicate your life to begin with) and go with just installing the database, working from there. A simple and effective installation i've done a couple of times is Oracle XE on Ubuntu (very smooth installation, never a problem). This is a great lightweight installation suitable for learning.
I have CentOS running Oracle 11.2 on a PC at home with ASM (did it for a learning experience) and it was quite a pain to get going (though i'm admittedly no DBA with minimal *nix experience ... was a great learning experience though). Once going it's pretty smooth, though every time the kernel gets upgraded i have to head out to find new RPM's for ASM to be able to properly communicate with the Kernel (if you don't do this, you perform a kernel upgrade and reboot your machine you're going to be without a database).
So it really depends on what your level of experience is, how much patience you have, and what you're looking to get out of the experience.

The answer that "any"  printer from the popular vendors is simply not correct, however if you want a list of current compatible devices please click Printer and scanner software for Snow Leopard & Lion

  • Ideal Linux distro for a computer lab

I'm looking for a good Linux distribution to install on a ~40 PCs programming laboratory. The desktops need to be user-friendly for both Linux and non-Linux users (which means that's probably a KDE/Gnome desktop). I think that a rolling-release distro (like Arch) is out of question, since updating 40 boxes would be really messy (if there's no automated way to update all the machines at once).
What Linux distro would you recommend installing on such lab?

No matter what distribution you are going to operate, thats quite a few machines to setup at any one time.  I'd recommend that you use the distribution you are most familiar with. So why not use Arch?
Probably the best way to do it would be to use kdemod for your desktop. Two of the machines should be set aside for special functions. The first machine is your test machine. You perform all the updates on here manually. Make sure the updates work etc before you roll them out to the other machines. (I am assuming they are all similarly specced if they are in the same lab).
Setup a ftp server on the second machine and use that as your repository.  When you have sufficiently tested the updates, update the repository as needed. You can then run say a weekly cron job on each of the lab machines which will update them to the latest packages in your repository. This will significantly reduce the amount of work you have to do to maintain the lab. Also has the advantage of reducing the amount of bandwidth you use when updating them. Whilst downloading 100-200mb of updates on one machine isn't too bad, hammering those out accross say 40 machines is completely different.  Whichever distribution you decide on running, you will need to maintain a local repository.
Also if you need to re-image a machine, then all you need to do is grab the packages from the ftp server locally rather than going accross the internet. Means you reimage much faster.

  • Please recommend a tool for stress-testing ?

Could anyone please recommend a (free) tool to do multi-threaded stress-test, on plain java classes ?
In more detail: I'd like to do unit-test for some plain java methods (only mathematical calculations. No web interface, no swing).
The emphasis is stress test: i need to launch multiple threads, all of them repeately invoking my method. Under these conditions, I need to report correctness (has the method yielded the expected return value), and statistics on response time.
Any recommendations would be appreciated . Thanks !

Besides j2se or jdom, any fast tool for it?What do you mean with "j2se", that's not a XML handling tool (it contains several, 'though).
SAX sounds good for building object trees from XML, but there are several XML mapping libraries out there (try google).

  • Should I use the 64 bit or 32 bit Linux distro for Oracle Service Bus

I'm going to install OSB for the first time on Oracle Linux 5.3 for development use. Does it matter whether I install OSB on the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Oracle Linux?
I've had better luck with 32 bit Linux distros in the past, but if there's a benefit to using the 64 bit distro I'll use it. My hardware has 4 GB of RAM, which I hope is enough for development use.
    Thanks.

I found this post on the Ubuntu forums which indicates trouble running Workshop on ubuntu. Maybe OSB works but Workshop has problems on Ubuntu:

  • Please recommend GPS App for Tour

Hello, I have Verizon Wireless and would like to purchase a GPS for my BlackBerry Tour.  I see that there are a lot of different options.  I simply want a GPS that works like a Garmin, where it displays the streets and has a voice that tells me when to turn. I do have GPS activated on the phone so I just need an App that works with it other than Google Maps.  I tried a couple of free GPS apps and they sucked so I know that I have to pay if I want a good app. Please recommend me such a GPS app.  Thank you.

This is not much of a solution, but if you switch to Sprint, they give you a free GPS application that works just like your Magellan/Garmin/etc.
I would quite literally be lost without my Sprint Maps

  • Compaitble Linux distro for Tecra520 cdt

    Hello all,
need a bit of information on what Linux Distro would be suitable for my beast.
I know that ubuntu tends to work on all newer tosh machine's my problems are trying to locate a older distro that works on the more antique models, any of the 500-550cdt models.
My machine runs XP at present, with a full comliment of RAM@160Mb, BIOS ver. 6.8, 40Gb hard drive, TEAC DVD-ROM (standard CDROM doesn??t like CDRW or DVD discs). I have had a CD-RW drive working although the front wasnt flat so that came out, not tried a DVDRW drive yet. Currently experimenting with a Solid State 8Gb CF Card, (well got to get rid of some weight :)
Any other Tecra 500-550cdt users still out there in the ether?
Any information would be great on my quest for a suitable distro.

Ubuntu seems to be Toshiba's preferred distro

  • Please recommend a book for basic CSS learning

I have "CSS The Missing Manual" and even though I'd say it's

All the books I have read gives you templates, I want to

    Any recommendations? Please help.

  • Please recommend a Database for me...

    Hello,
I have a Palm T/X - just received. I've been a long-time fan of Filemaker Pro for the PC, and I have numerous databases in that format.
Ideally, I'd love to be able to use those databases on my palm; but Filemaker Mobile is no longer available (and, apparently, wasn't all that great to begin with).
Since I don't necessarily *need* to sync the databases, I'd love to find a database into which I could import the data from FMPro, and then use that on my palm.
I did find pilot-db, which seemed to serve my purpose, and its corresponding windows product, db-editor. However, as you can read here:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=windows_hotsync&thread.id=38061
I was still unable to synchronize the data.
If anyone could recommend a database that would be great. The database should have a corresponding windows-based application (so I can do any heavy-duty editing on the PC) and should allow records to be imported. Also - something free (or low-cost) would be ideal, as well.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

SmartList To Go won't let you sync with your original FileMaker Pro file, but if you can Import that data into SLTG, and maintain the data in SLTG (with either the desktop or handheld component, or both) going forward, there's no need to import and export anything.
It sounds like you wish to keep using FileMaker Pro, in which case you will be stuck exporting and importing.
There are other database products out there as well.  I tried HanDBase a few years ago, but am so used to SLTG that I got flustered and chucked it.  A good place to look is www.handango.com or www.palmgear.com (PalmGear just re-launched, and is offering a site-wide 20% discount on all purchses...woo-hoo!).

I have iMovie '09 and am considering a purchase of a new digital camcorder. I want to easily inport video into IMovie for editing and burning DVD's for use on our home player and for importing into Facebook, email, etc. Can you recommend the best digital format for me? Also, if you have any recommended camcorders I would appreciate that too. I'm looking for something portable with High Def and either a hard drive or flash drive memory component (or both-hybrid).

  • Please recommended best SSD for T410s

I just bought a lightly used T410s with an HDD and the disk is really slow. It measures much slower than the than 2.5" 5400 RPM disk in my T61.  The general performance impression of this T410s is a step backwards from my older Thinkpads because of the slow load-times for all applications.
So what is the best SSD to install in a T410s.   I looks like the 1.8" market is limited compared to 2.5".
(I recently installed a OCZ Agiity-3  240Gb (2.5" SSD) in a T500 that it is much faster than the Intel SSD that came factory installed in a friends T410s)  Does this mean that the best 1.8" drives are not equal to a SATA3 2.5" drive?
OCZ and Kingston have 1.8" 128Gb SATA2 models that are similar in specs, and the Kingston is about half the price ?
    Any recommendations ?

I'm not up to speed, but if you find an older Intel X-18m, it will work.  While not as fast at the latest drives, it is MUCH faster than that hard drive.Your other choice is placcing a drive in the DVD bay.  I have 2 drives (1 hard drive and 1 SSD) in my T400.  I use an external blu-ray drive when I need an optical drive.
