''Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software''?

Dear All, I have been quite happily using my ipod classic 30gb until today when I connected it to my computer and upon opening iTunes an error messages comes up ''The Software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software'' I have troubleshooted on the Apple support site and tried at least 6 things including completly uninstalling and reinstalling all itunes and related folders, and trying to reinstall and earlier version of iTunes (8.2?) to no avail......any ideas or other users with similar problems?

Here is a thread with a successful answer to this problem:

What should I do to correct the error?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies. The notes below the box include tips on removing troublesome components.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Assuming you have windows, try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

I upgraded my itunes to 10.6 and now I get the error "The software required for this iPhone is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the required software." I get the same error on my iPad. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Please help!!

Edit: 10.6.3. I have uninstalled using the uninstall programs on itunes and then I downloaded again from the itunes website multiple times. This is not resolving the issue. The phone shows up in My Computer.

I tried removing and reinstalling iTunes, following the instructions to the letter.  I tried my iPod in my wife's computer, and it works.  We both have Windows XP SP3 and iTunes 10.7.0.21.
My iPhone 4 works fine with iTunes.  I changed the battery in the ipod.
Anyone know how to solve this?
    Thanks.

Did you install iTunes 11.1.4?  If so, follow the guidance of tt2 in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24620553#24620553 to clean up a problem with the installation.

  • HT201210 Is anyone else having to constantly install and reinstall iTunes, and restore the iPod with each Synch?  THis is totally ludicrous.

It seems that every time I synch my iPod, I have no music.  Then, when I go to synch again, it tells me it needs to restore the iPod!!  It's the software's fault, I think.  Windows 8 and iTunes do not seem to be very compatible and I don't have a choice in terms of what iPod and what computer I'm using.  I just want the thing to work.  Thank you.

Some other users has reported the same there may be a but in iOS 8 or iTunes.
    Have you tried:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • I have two ipod touches and two ipad2s. One of my ipod touches and ipad2s keep popping up an unkown error 0xE800000A when I try to connect it to intunes. What to do? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and updated the ipod touch on diff comp

One of my ipod touches and ipad2 will not connect ti itunes. Unknown error keeps popping up 0xE800000A. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. I have restored to original settings but it will not appear on my computer, but will other computer. What to do?

    Thanks for the help Ricky.
I did put my iPod into DFU and iTunes recognized it in restore mode. After restore I am back where I was before - iTunes cannot connect because of an unknown error.
I have installed Jailbreak to see if I can bypass itunes but haven't succeeded. I can't get my computer to recopgnize the iPod as a device.
I'll take it to a Genius bar next time I am in the area of one. Until then I'll probably continue to try hacks to get it connected.

  • Hi so my ipad is stuck in recovery mode.  Once I connected to itunes to install the ios 8 software it says that its eligible for the request build and I tried the sudo nano command and that didn't work either. Please help thanks!

Ipad mini stuck in recovery mode.
    My itunes is up-to-date.
Sudo nano command is not working.

yes i am sure. This are the exact words... "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full. (Removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space". i tried some options, hard reset, redsnow, tinyumbrella but still it's stuck.

Hey, did you ever figure this problem out??!??! I have the same problem!

  • Software required is not installed correctly, please reinstall Itunes

I've been at my Dad's house helping build some tables in the past couple of months. I've turned on my pc last sunday and had 15 updates from windows update., so i let it download and install them as i was unpacking.
I started up iTunes and it said there was an update, so I installed the new version, along with the new firmware.
Since then, I get the erro:
"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iYunes to install the iPid's software."
I've gone through all the 5 R's, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716, but I can stil see it on my pc, but not iTunes or the Updater.
I've ended the iPodservice.exe, restart, use iTunes/updater, but the iPodservice.exe is running before I use them, but is gone when I use either iTunes or the updater. I can't find anything in the event viewer stating anthing wrong.
I've read other threads, a bit annoyed of how the forum has the posts set left and right and not in exact order of date and time of post, but that's my opinion. But yet I have not found a explanation of why this is happening, and a most accurate way to fix this.
If anyone needs to know, I'm using a 5gen 30gig iPod. I never had this problem before or any problem before either.
Only thing I can assume is window's current updates messed it up just to make the Windows visa look good when it comes out.

First, for the forum view issue. Go to My Settings (on the right) and in General Settings change the Topic Page View to Flat. Click Save. Posts should show up in the order they were written.
    Have you seen this?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93764
Also, since you said that you've gone through the 5 Rs, I would assume that you used the iPod Updater to restore (since there is no other way of doing it and you don't "run" the 5 Rs).
When you restored, did you use the latest updater?
You may also want to try formatting the iPod through Windows. Connect it to the computer and when it appears in My Computer right click it and go to format. Does anything happen? Can you format the iPod through Windows?

  • Ituneshelper was not installed correctly, please reinstall itunes

trying to install itunes i have unstalled adn reinstalled several times but keep getting this message when i try to open itunes
ituneshelper was not installed correctly, please reinstall itunes
    error 7
    please help

ituneshelper was not installed correctly, please reinstall itunes
    error 7
The error 7 suggests you might also be getting a problem with your Apple Application Support as well as iTunes.
So let's try uninstalling both iTunes and Apple Application Suppport this time. When we reinstall iTunes, that should reinstall Apple Application Support as well. We'll take a few additional explicit precautions along the way too. Best to print these instructions out, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
Download and save a fresh iTunes installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install on line and don't start the iTunes install just yet.)
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now, quit QuickTime (if you have that open) and Safari 4.0.4 (if you have that installed and open). Both applications use Apple Application Support, and they will interfere with the uninstall if you have them open.
    *Uninstall phase*
Head into your "Uninstall a Program" control panel. Uninstall iTunes. Uninstall Apple Application Support.
(From this point on until we reinstall Apple Application Support, neither QuickTime nor Safari 4.0.4 will be able to run.)
Next we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
    (1) Open "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your program files are stored on.
    (2) Open the "Program Files" folder.
    (3) Right-click on the iTunes folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    (4) Open the "Common files" folder.
    (5) Open the "Apple" folder.
    (6) Right-click on the Apple Application Support folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Now empty your Recycle Bin and restart the PC.
    *Reinstall Phase*
After the PC restarts, do not open any other applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus and antispyware).
Now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Did the install seem to go through okay? If so, does iTunes start launching properly again?

  • I have been using itunes on my windows based pc for years but since installing the latest itunes update I have been getting the error message A required itunes component is not installed. Please reinstall itunes. (-42404)

I have been using itunes on my windows 64 bit laptop for years but since downloading the latest itunes 10.7 update whenever I opened itunes the error message 'A required itunes component is not installed. Please reinstall itunes (-42404)'
Itunes would still load and play music in my library and I could still sync my ipod but when loading a CD itunes would not recognise the album/tracks and I would need to type them manualing after uploading.
I have just bought the new iphone5 and went to sync the phone with itunes. itunes recognises the iphone when plugged in via the usb port or when wi fi is turned on but itunes will not allow the phone to sync.
I spent over an hour the other morning speaking to apple customer support and have ensured I have administer right and that UAC is turned off.
I was taken through msconfigure and adjusted the startup tab but still no joy.
In the end I was e-mailed instructions on how to uninstall and then reinstall itunes and component parts.
Now that I've uninstalled itunes when I try reinstalling I get the following messages during the download.
    The 1st message is;
'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application  Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
    When I click ok the next message that appears sometime later during the install is;
Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) Failed to start Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
The options I have are to abort, retry or ignore. If I retry the same message comes back and if I  abort or ignore the download continues and I then get the following message:
'Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is required to run itunes Helper. Please uninstall itunes, then reinstall itunes again. Error 2'
After attempting to reinstall itunes only some components were installed however itunes would not open.
It would appear many people have experienced problems with this latest download!

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • I received the following message when iTunes launches: "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's or DVD's are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning softwarre.  Please reinstall iTunes"

Everytime I connect my iPod Touch (4th Gen) to my laptop, running Win 7 (64 bit) I get the message "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software.  Please reinstall iTunes"  I have reinstalled iTunes several times and it has not fixed the issue.  I am running ver 10.2.2.12 of iTunes.  I HAVE NOT installed any other burning software to my laptop either.  I haven't tried uninstalling iTunes and then re-installing it yet.  Would that perhaps fix the problem?  I've read that many users have had issues with the new version of the software and I was wondering if that might be causing my issue.  I'd like to point out that iTunes seems to work after getting rid of the message, but I haven't tried to burn any CDs or put music from a CD to my laptop.  Any ideas on how to get rid of the annoying message?
I also am having trouble hooking up with our other computers using  Homegroup.  I noticed quite a lot of people are having the same issue and hopefully they come up with a fix for that soon.
    Thanks in advance.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes
If you're still getting the error message (especially when you plug in the Touch), I'd check for a device filter confusion on the PC. (They can affect the connection of USB devices to a PC, as well as burning and importing CDs.) For that one, see:
iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
