Please release an Update that actually does something

I get asked to update Spotify almost every few weeks and it seems they still cant fix the darn problem of Spotify automatically adding itself to my startup items list everytime it starts, no matter what settings I change under "preferences." This is simply lazy and unacceptable computer programming. How gosh darn hard can it be to change that little facet so your software doesnt come off as clingy adware/malware? Everytime I set the option "Open spotify automatically after you log into the computer" from "minimized" to "no," it never fails to reset itself back to "minimized" everytime it starts. For a subscription service costing $10/month with hoards of paying users, it seems like a company such as Spotify would be able to hire some decent programmers who don't overlook the same mistake for years on end. I've searched the forums and people have been having this problem since 2012. Get your mfing sh1t together Spotify and make your program actually function as intended. You can get spellcheck and the language filter working just fine on this website but just fix that one effing button in your rip-off program and we're good.

That does not seem right! At least it doesn't happen to my client every time I update.
Could you give us a bit more information on which OS you're running?
Also does it really happen every time you're updating or does the issue skip some updates?
Do you have a entry in the Auto Start menu for Spotify on your OS?
Also could you maybe link us to those reports you've mentioned, so we can gather more feedback on this in one place?

Is there a version of Pages that actually *does* something?

My biggest needs are to be able to compare documents and find/replace with wildcards. Is there a version of Pages that does this, or is Pages just an expensive version of Bean? I'm thinking of just tossing iWork into the trash and, despite a few concerns, just buying MS Word:Mac. I was hoping to give my support to Apple, though, but I need word software that actually doesn't stop me in my tracks every three seconds.

Pages does't do wild card searches, and that's pretty much that.
But you knew that already.
What folks tend to forget is that just below the visible surface of their interface, most OS X applications are full participants in the AppleScript underworld. Whenever you find yourself cursing the engineer who failed to include an incredibly useful feature in the app you're using, remember that a DIY solution might be a lot closer than you think.
Pages, for example, has a fairly comprehensive AppleScript dictionary, and can take advantage of the usual scripts menu interface as well as any application. This makes it possible to extend the program to do just about anything, including (especially) activities involving other applications. And note that to AppleScript, the entire Unix subsystem is just one more application available to do whatever it can do for any purpose you can imagine. Pages has access to GREP, SED, and all the rest, just waiting for you to tell it what to do.
If you're a complete stranger to AppleScript and in an "I want what I want and I want it now" mood, this may not be a good time to invest in learning new tricks. On the other hand, if you love the application except for the way it leaves the cap off the Find & Replace toothpaste, it might be worth it to you to pursue therapy for that one little quirk rather than go find a new girl/boy friend.
Keep in mind, too, that AppleScript is enormously seductive for anyone who wants it his/her way, and there are vast numbers of geeks out there willing to code just about anything for no more than the chance to do some good, show off their smarts, and maybe have a case of preferred microbrew.
While the site seems to be Having Technical Difficulties of late, macscripter.net is still a great resource. Not least of all because if something has annoyed you enough to go looking for a solution, it's likely annoyed someone else enough to have already created one.

Visual alert that mail app is actually doing something!

When I press 'Get mail' I see no visual confirmation that Mail is actually doing something such as the spinning connect wheel beside each account as the app checks that account in earlier versions of Mail up to Snow Leopard.

Thanks Eric, now I know, seems like I now have no option but to move to Postbox when I would have preferred to stick with mail for syncing. I have come from a MBP running Snow Leopard so I have no experiance with OS after that until this.
The problem is I have not had any connection to the internet a couple of times and pressed 'Get mail' but Mail has not reported anything or any error, makes me not trust the application, already it makes my think that there are problems and Apple covers them up by just not informing you to it checking accounts etc. True or not I have difficulty understanding why this would not be part of a normal working application, it has been the objective of software developers to inform users of everything that is helpful for them, even Apple has notification this notification that but most intuitive interaction with the user in Mail has been removed.... seems odd. I am getting more and more dissapointed with Apple apps.

could you please release an update for the keyboard on the nokia n8 becuase the cureent keyboars is difficult to type in potrait mode as the keys are not well spaced.

I think it depends what means "update" in your opinion and in their opinion.
I read recently that the keyboard on N808 has been downgraded in one aspect, in that now there are no more left/right arrow keys. I hope this will not happen to N8. Not long ago I was very happy to observe that it is easier to correct a mistyped URL in the address bar on my N8 (also native browser, but specially on Opera Mobile) than it is on my wife's iPad, which is way bigger – and this just because on the iPad there is no way (or I found none) to precisely step the cursor in the required position on address bar, other than touching several times with my finger in a hope to finally place the cursor where intended.
Personally I can type relatively well on my N8 in portrait mode (and things are somewhat worse for me, because I'm using a localized keyboard, with additional virtual keys on it), but I presume it depends on each person finger constitution. Perhaps the Swype model is easier for you to use ? (I mean just using as normal keyboard)
Other than this, I am curious about the N8 screen resolution when it comes to touch control surface. Are there inherent hardware limitations on it ? How many elements are in the grid ? How possible is for a keyboard software to detect adjacent keys touch on this particular device ?

Back around version 2.1 or 2.2 of the Apple TV operating system Apple released an update that essentially changes how the IR receiver communicates with the OS. If your Apple TV missed that update and then later gets updated to the newer 3.0.X firmware your Apple TV will no longer respond to input from your remote, though the light on the front of the AppleTV will blink. The solution is to load the update manually, but unfortunately that requires ssh access on the AppleTV.

I burned the little utility to a CD on another machine/setup, ran the little sucker and restarted in OS X like a hoot!!! So I'm guessing the unbanded Z1 will prob miss out the first kitkat update and go straight to this second version instead. It will probably be another couple of weeks before all the networks approve this update so my guess is that the unbranded Z1 in the UK wont see kitkat until the second half of April at the earliest.

I myself pulled my hair out for weeks trying to figure out how to turn +20db boost on as the option was not in my control panel even after loading the very latest drivers for my X-FI Extreme Gamer card on VISTA. The registry patches on the 2nd page were the ONLY way I was able to turn it on.
I wish they'd get rid of all the crappy bloatware involved with the drivers/options as well but for gods sake, it's supposedly an X-FI EXTREME GAMER card... hint: Gamers make extensive use of their MICROPHONES and not having +20db boost available drove me bananas. Even now I'm not happy with the card and am seriously considering upgrading to some other audio card (NON CREATIVE) so that I can use 20db boost without having to hack my registry. Also so I can get rid of all this bloatware involved with the card.

Hello All I am wishing to be able to get my Asus Rampage Extreme's stock card which is an Asus creative supremfx x-fi card to be able to work with all of it's features such as the cmss 3d , eq, crystalizer, surroung sound modes etc.
Back in January I switched to w7 beta, I have the 64bit version and have all other drivers working flawlessly except for the stock w7 audio driver is not capable of recognizing the supremfx x-fi card that I have.
Also, I have tryed uninstalling the w7 driver and putting the driver which came on dvd with the mb/card. That one does the same thing it is not recognized at all.
I also have tryed Daniel K's driver, and that one does not work either...it also is not recognizing the card.
All of the drivers I have tryed ' DO " work providing the stock sound so I do have sound, just I don't have access to the creative console where all of the surround eq and processing power to the card are controlled.
I am one of thousands of Asus Rampage I & II Extreme users who have this same card.
Asus is always slow to adapt to any new driver changes, and so I hope that with the assistance of all of you that I might be able to get the Asus Supremfx x-fi creative sound console working?

MESSAGE TO BLACKBERRY re. RELEASING SOFTWARE BEFORE IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!

I've tried every program on the internet in trying to get my BB Storm to work with my mac. I was very happy when BlackBerry announced that they would release a Desktop Manager that would enable us to sync anything on our BB's.
Now it's been released...
We shouldn't need to spend hours trouble shooting software, it should be released when it's been properly tested and in FULL working order. I spend over £400 a year on the 'privilege' of having a BB Storm and the fact that there is still no desktop software that works properly is pretty jarring.
The mind set of 'just get the program out and fix the bugs later' is a terrible way to run a business and just makes us 'consumers' unhappy and want to find something better.
When work is completed on fixing the bugs, please let us all know as soon as possible as a great deal of us now have an empty phone with no contacts...and a phone with no phone numbers to call is not great - unless we all want to go back to the 80's and carry a phonebook around with us.
Another unhappy BlackBerry user.

Still doesn't discount the fact that RIM's pretty much sitting on a problem right now though. Considering how many people use BBs as business devices, a weekend really shouldn't be a break from sorting out urgent problems like that!! Get it sorted RIM!

i got the 7th gen nano for christmas since my old ipod broke in summer, and i love it loads, don't get me wrong, but i do miss cover flow, does anyone have any idea if/how likely it'll be for apple to release an update that could allow cover flow again?

Airport does something funny after waking up from sleep.

Ok, so I had to send my MBP in to get the hard drive replaced, because it wasnt mounting right. And now that I got it back, I've noticed that airport does something weird after the laptop falls asleep with the lid open. When I wake it back up, Airport shows the normal gray icon(like when airport is on, but doesnt have a server to connect to), but it has a black up arrow on it. When I click on it, it says something like "No server selected", and it doesnt show my wireless connection. I have to shut off Airport, which takes a little bit, then once I turn it back on, it works fine.

Well that appears to be the explanation that makes sense to me. It also explains why your internet does not work when it's like that. Because if that arrow were there, it implies that you are receiving your internet connection from a source other than airport (i.e. ethernet) and sharing that network connection to other computers in your house via airport.

I have set my computer to share my "connection from" ethernet to computers "using airport."

Verizon please release a Home Fusion Data Usage Tracking Tool for customers

Just switched to Home Fusion. It works quickly but data usage has gone up dramatically. Why?
In the past, with my MiFi hotspot, I could use Verizon website tools to view usage per session to see when data was being used.
Verizon has no tools for customers to view usage during data sessions on their Home Fusion.
The only tool available is a worthless display of the "packets" used during the current session and the number of hours connected.
We cannot view past data sessions or a measure of mb or gb used for even the current session, let alone past sessions.
Verizon, please release an application that gives customers the ability to see when data is being used by their Home Fusion wireless connections!!!!
You will continue to receive complaints from customers on your forum and by phone if you don't give us the tools we need to see when data is being used at the very least.
My data usage has jumped up dramatically. The only help you'll give is for me to call Tier 2 support and have them list off my past data sessions and the amount of data used. Perhaps I'll call more regularly so they'll get annoyed and get an app for customers to see their data for themselves.
Your refusal to put detailed data usage in the hands of your customers makes me think forum complaints of your Home Fusion using data when all computers are off might be valid and suspect you may be trying to hide a problem with your data usage billing.
How can I dispute my data usage if you won't allow access to more than the total usage YOU claim I've used?
Make this customer tool a TOP PRIORITY. If I'd known data usage would jump and there'd be nothing to document the reason, I'd have cancelled within the 14 days. Wish I was quicker to investigate.

So what happened to the phone during the process? It should have gone black and restarted a couple of times and there would have been a white progress bar as the update installed. Sounds to me like you've downloaded the update file but not actually installed it. The quickest way to see version of the software is installed is to go to Settings-General-About and check Version.
