PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!! My macbook pro is stuck on apple screen.

Ok so heres the story, I have my friends macbook pro model#A1226. He bought the laptop from someone else. After having it a couple weeks (and it worked just fine, no problems whatsoever) we tried to install full tilt poker on it and relized that it had a password which would not allow us to download anything without having it (this is weird to me that we didnt have to have a password to access the whole system but just to install stuff, weird). At that time we did not have access to an operating system disk (we were told that for this computer its 10.5) and were told that we could re-install and that would reset the password. So.... I did something I should not have done. I looked up online how to bypass the password. I found a post, http://theappleblog.com/2008/06/22/reset-os-x-password-without-an-os-x-cd/ that told me to access terminal (on load up after "chime" sound to push apple+s) than type "mount -uw /" and hit enter. Than type "rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone" and hit enter and than "shutdown -h now" and hit enter to restart. They said that this would create a new admin account and I would be able to delete the previous admin account with the password this way. Well....this may have worked except I typed the code in wrong, instead of "rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone" I missed a space and typed "rm/var/db/.AppleSetupDone". After I typed it in wrong I still gave it the command to shutdown and when I restarted it loaded up to the grey apple screen with the thinky wheel thingy and was frozen there. It will stay like that for about 5 min and then restart itself and do the exact same thing. I found a friend who had the Mac OS X 10.5 disk and borrowed it from him but putting the disk in does nothing, I have tried pushing and holding the "C" after the chime and "C+ctrl" and no difference. Is there a way I can format everything through the terminal (since this is the only thing I can access) or does someone know a trick of some other code to type in to reset everything or did I fry the Hard Drive or what? And we dont care about saving anything on the computer, we just want it to work. Someone please please help. This is my friends computer and Im an idiot for messing with stuff I dont understand. I feel so bad. Thank you so much for your time, to whoever is so kind as to give me some of there expertise.

Welcome to Apple discussions.
Your post was hard to follow, but, for openers, very few people should EVER use terminal commands. As you have found out, you can screw a system up badly.
So much for the lecture.
OS X requires a system administrator password when anyone tries to install software that will affect the operating system. This is an Apple security feature that keeps people from, hopefully, doing dumb things to their system.
You cannot use a "friends" disk on a system that differs from your own.
Bottom line, you need to reinstall the operating system (whatever came with the system). If it is OS X 10.5, you could do an archive and install.
There is no way that I know of to undo the damage caused by entering the arcane terminal commands.

Unfortunately this means that there is a problem in the boot sector of your hard drive. It might be indicative of a fundamental corruption in the coding that allows your computer to boot your operating system from your hard drive. I had this problem twice and it resulted in me having to get a new hard drive and restore my data.
In other words, your computer can't talk to your operating system so you can't access your data.
Here is my advice: DON'T CALL APPLE TECH SUPPORT though they are kind and usually helpful it will take you an hour just to explain the situation and they will only tell you to do what I'm gonna say here.
First: Shut down your computer completely
Two: boot up while holding down the following keys: command, option, p, and r. The computer will reboot 3 times. This solution will likely fail so if you're frustrated skip to the next step.
Three: Boot up while holding down the option key. Select recovery drive. Select your default language. Select disk utility, click on Macintosh HD, and select "verify and repair volume." Likely the verification will produce some line like "unused node not erased." Or something like that. If anything using the words "node structure" comes up, you need a new hard drive.
If after verification and repairs you still can't boot I sincerely hope you have apple care because you will need a new hard drive. Set up an appointment to come in to the apple store, they will tell you to go and get data recovery, just ask them to give you the old hard drive. Unless you have an up to date backup in which case you can just restore from that. If you're lucky the only issue is with the boot sector which means that if you ask them to give you the old hard drive, you can buy an enclosure and you have effectively been given a free external hard drive. It still works to store data just not to load an operating system.
If you have a back up drive bring it to the apple store and they'll do the whole thing right there, it should take around an hour and a half but may take longer.
Hope this helps, it's annoying but it's your safest bet.

My MacBook Pro fans were loud and unusual, so when I looked up what to do on google most of the results told me to reset the SMC. So I did that, expecting it to work, and now my MacBook Pro won't go past the Reboot screen! The strange thing is, it doesn't stay on the Apple logo like most people say. Instead, the apple logo changes into the "Restricted" Symbol and just stays there.
I assumed it was part of the SMC process so I left it alone. But it's been happening for hours now. I even restarted it several times and it still stays with the Restricted sign. I tried redoing the SMC process and I even tried resetting the PRAM. Nothing has worked. Pressing Command-S or Command-R doesn't do me much good either. I'm worried that something went wrong with the harddrive and I cannot afford a new Mac or the repairs for it.
Can anyone help me?

Ok, it's not booting up to OS X, which when loaded will control the fans to settle down, but the default if OS X doesn't load is eventually turbo mode.
You have basically what's called a "gray screen issue"
Go through the Steps here and it will fix it,, provided it's not a hardware issue.

Macbook Pro (2010) stuck at blue screen on bootup

I recently wiped my hard drive and went to reinstall snow leopard on my macbook. It installed snow leopard, then it restored from my time machine backup I had. It booted up and asked me for a password. I didn't know the password to the account, because I never had one set up. I rebooted into the snow leopard install cd and reset the password. After rebooting, it gets stuck at the blue screen. I've tried to rewipe and reinstall twice so far, and don't feel like doing it a third time. I've repaired the disk, repaired the disk permissions. Anyone know how to make it boot up properly? Does the fact that my time machine backups are from lion screw anything up?

you really need to get the original disks. you can get them from apple for the cost of shipping. If the MBP is <1 year old, it is still under warranty.
You can try to boot it to safe mode: hold down the shift key while booting. If that does not fix it, then I would bring it to the Apple store or call Applecare. If the computer is <1 year old, but getting close, I would seriously consider buying Applecare to get the additional 2 years of warranty. If you are >1 year old, don't have applecare, and it is a logic board, it will cost you some serious $$$.

MacBook Pro 2011 stuck on grey screen after loading

Hi guys. I've already checked many threads in many forums, but I can't succeed in this problem.
I have a Macbook Pro8,2 (2011) that doesn't go beyond the boot screen, regardless of which disc you boot it from (tested with 4 different bootable partitions). Apple logo with spinning wheel, then grey screen with fast spinning fans. I tried everything: safe mode, netboot, single user mode, accessing recovery, resetting SMC and PRAM, Apple Hardware Test (it states it's all ok). I even took off the ram sticks singularly and unplugged the internal hard drive to realise if the SATA cable is faulty. Nothing has worked so far.
Any other suggestions before I call Apple Supoprt and pay hundreds of euros for a new logic board?

You may have the problem that I, and scores of others, have had with the faulty GPU found in a number of 2011 models, as discussed here -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0.
Usually the problem begins with graphics glitches and then it's downhill from there. The AHT will not report any problems and neither will the tests that the Apple techs have available.
If you do have this problem, then having the GPU reballed is the least expensive, and longer lasting, 'fix.' Apple will want to replace your logic board - don't fall for that scheme (unless you're still under warranty). I had my logic board replaced because I have AppleCare until next year. But once my AppleCare runs out and the problems come back again, I'm going the reball route.

When I turn my MacBook Pro on, the white apple screen shows up with loading circle, but doesn't go from this screen. Why?

It's just a white screen with the apple logo. It doesn't move from this screen regardless of how long it's on. The charger is showing a green light. It was amber before I let it fully charge. I've tried turning it on with and without it plugged in. I hear the hard drive start up when I turn it on. And the caps lock light turns on when I hit it. Any suggestions? Help please.

Start your MBP holding the OPTION key. This should show two HDD icons. Select the one on the right, the RECOVER icon. This should display a four option menu. Select Disk Utility and repair the disk.
If no success, the the only other avenue is is a reinstall of the OS.

Macbook Pro wont boot (Grey apple screen + thinking wheel)

Hello.
When i turn on my mac, the apple logo comes, and the thinking-wheel comes - i've left it on for about 2 hours, and it just keeps going.. I've tried for 6 hours now, to reboot, googling and browsing forums.
I dont have the installation CDs, they are somewhere down in the basement collecting dust (already looked, i gave up)
I can get into terminal - i can also click "Option" and the harddrive comes up.
I dont care if i loose everything, i dont have anything important on it.
How do i get this stupid wheel away? It wont boot in safe mode neither, when i click left shift the apple shows up, but the thinking-wheel never comes (which makes me think its stuck) I've only let it wait for 3-4 minutes after clicking the left shift key, but nothing happens.

What about your system dvds? The ones that originally came with your computer? If they are also gathering dust bunnies you can get replacement System DVDs from Apple's Customer Support for a nominal S&H fee. *You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.*

It sounds like your computer seems to boot but will not show your users so you cannot log in.
I suggest these steps from the article named:
Try a Safe Boot
If you're using Mac OS X 10.2 or later, you can start up your computer in Safe Mode, which includes an automatic disk check and repair. If you're using Mac OS X 10.1.5 or earlier, skip to the next section. A Safe Boot, which starts up your computer into Safe Mode, may allow you to start up your computer successfully using a reduced version of the system software. To do this, follow these steps:
Start up in Safe Mode.
After the system has fully started up, restart your computer again normally.
If the computer successfully restarts, you do not need to do any more troubleshooting. If the issue persists, try Disk Utility.
Try Disk Utility
Start from the Recovery System or Internet Recovery (OS X Lion or Mountain Lion).
If your computer shipped with a Mac OS X Install disc, insert the installation disc, and restart the computer while holding the C key.
If using a Recovery partition or Internet Recovery (OS X Lion and later): When your computer finishes starting up, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities window.
If using an installation disc: Choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Important: If you started from an installation disc, do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must start from the disc again to access Disk Utility.

Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.

fsck is a command-line utility that may be able to verify and repair a disk. If you can successfully start up in Safe Mode or use Disk Utility while started up from a disc, you don't need to use fsck. Here are some situations in which fsck may be necessary.
