Please Speculate

I am helping a friend of a friend with a problem. Traci has
an osCommerce web site that no longer transacts credit cards. A
customer can go all of the way through the shopping cart and put in
his Credit card and press confirm order and then....nothing happens
and it goes back to the page to put in credit card. It doesn't go
through to authorize.net.
At some point before this problem occurred, she changed her
transaction key, after which everything worked fine for a few days
and then the problem occurred. She called Authorize.Net and it said
the problem was with the checkout page. She consulted a web
developer and the guy said it was not the checkout page.
The web developer, if he is a web developer, said that there
is an issue with osCommerce and the new Authorize.net stuff so
instead of fixing the problem with the current web site he is
creating another ecommerce site using Zen cart. This seems a little
drastic to me.
Traci looked on the Authorize.Net web site and found a notice
basically saying that they expanded the range of their IDs. The
notice advises the “use a data type that will handle a
10-digit Transaction ID greater than 2,147,483,647.”
Here’s what the notice says:
"The Transaction ID, or x_trans_id, is specified as a
10-digit integer and will only be affected if that value is
represented as an INT data type, which has a max value of
2,147,483,647. If the Transaction ID has been specified as a string
value, then your system will not be affected. Failure to
accommodate 10-digit values larger than 2,147,483,647 will result
in your system's inability to accept Authorize.Net
transactions.”
This is not my area, but I tried to get into phpMyAdmin to
see if there is field for the Transaction ID and, if so, check on
the data type. I could not get into phpMyAdmin with the password I
had, but I will get the password tomorrow.
Please feel free to speculate. Am I on the right track or is
there something else that you would recommend. It seems obvious to
me that the problem is due to the transaction id. But how would I
fix it?
Thanks.

There are plenty of rumor sites that are forecasting a complete revamp of the PowerMac G5 line. I have a suspicion that Apple will announcement something about new 64-bit Mactel processors in August at the WWDC when Steve Jobs
unviels Leopard, but that's just a hunch on my part.
I doubt there will ever been an option to upgrade existing G5 machines to Wintel processors because it would involve replacing too much hardware and thus, not be cost-effective.

  • 1st generation MacBook, battery and Leopard issues; looking for help please

I have a 1st generation MacBook that started having battery problems immediately after installing Leopard. it was the same issue many others have complained about; battery life shortened and shutting down while on battery power with no warning. I have never had that problem while using Tiger. I experienced this with both 10.5.0 and the stand alone upgrade of 10.5.1 using an erase and install method.
(BTW, as a side note: I'm religious about calibrating my battery every month and use a program called "CoconutBattery" to document the results. Prior to Leopard, the battery measured 97-99% capacity. Three days after Leopard was installed it was time for another check, the result was 74% capacity.)
I had a clone backup of Tiger and immediately restored my MacBook, but the problem followed Tiger. I have Applecare and called support. Both myself and the tech found it rather hard to believe that the battery just suddenly failed coincidentally after the Leopard install. We went through the regular things; SMC reset, firmware checks, diagnostics, repair permissions, etc.
We believe it has to do with the Battery Updater package. I had gone between both versions of 1.2 and 1.3, but the problem remained with both Tiger and Leopard. The tech decided to send me a new battery (it's on the way) and I wish to try installing Leopard again. As long as I have my cloned Tiger image, all I have to lose is my time, but hopefully, not another battery! I would honestly like to get Leopard running on this machine.
But... here's my question. In reading through these discussions in both the Leopard and MacBook forum, there doesn't seem to be any consensus of which BatteryUpdater package to use. The Apple tech honestly told me he didn't know. Also, if the BU package "writes" to the battery (which it states it does), can it be downgraded once v1.3 has been installed? I mean, should I leave the battery out, install Leopard, then manually update BU to v1.2 before installing the battery (if possible)? I do plan on testing the new battery with my Tiger install, just to verify it is working as it was before.
There are a lot of people here claiming to be knowledgeable about Leopard, never had any problems with a variety of machines, etc, etc, so I would appreciate your input. Please don't speculate, but if you're using a version of BU that works with Leopard and your 1st Gen MacBook, I would appreciate you telling me about it. I have tried to document and methodically relate everything I've done so far, but if you need additional information, just let me know.
I noticed Leopard had installed BU v1.3 when I checked it, so it must use that as default, since I noticed Tiger had v1.2.
OR, am I way off base on this? Can anyone think of another reason I may have had this problem? Am I barking up the wrong tree by concentrating on the BatteryUpdater package? Is it possible all these batteries are failing under a Leopard install maybe due to some unknown reason?
Any knowledgeable advice or suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Well, Ding Dang y'all... it appears the battery was the culprit. I received my replacement battery from Apple and followed the same steps and everything seems to be working fine.
It sure was strange that the battery started this problem immediately after Leopard was installed... I don't know what to say about that, unless BatteryUpdater v1.3 started the chain of events.
In case it helps someone else, here's exactly what I did (rebooted through each step):
    - Backed up data; unauthorized computer from iTunes
    - Erase and install from the Leopard disc, while keeping the old battery in
    - Installed Leopard, did software updates except for delta 10.5.1 update
    - Applied combo update of 10.5.1 from separately downloaded file
    - Found BatteryUpdater Bundle (BU) of v1.3, moved to trash, rebooted
    - Ran software updates, BU v1.2 was found and installed
    - Then, swapped out battery to new battery
    - Tested unit, seems to be okay now, no shutdown issues, battery runtime seems normal
Thanks to all that had advice and suggestions. It was enough to get me to try it again. Now, I have two more machines to upgrade, since these are production machines, I'll probably wait awhile. But, having this is a real treat.
    Have a great holiday everyone!

    Hi please help.
I have a iPad 2 , not jail broken, just 2 months old fresh from the apple store. Recently I have been directed to **** sites or a fake bad oink **** application, through various applications. From google chrome app, the photon app and safari.
I always delete cookies and cache on exit. I use photon and puffin to watch flash player videos on tv series site with links such as put locker. I heard that there is no virus for the iPad but Trojans do exist.
Pleae help, at first this was just happening with photon app now in 3 different apps, and it is directing me always to the same **** site. I don't watch **** so it's. it from cookies or whatever and my iPad has been randomly turning off and also the videos are working really badly now. Also there is a message red alert staying untrusted site and hacker may be intercepting your device. What is going on? Please help
Is their a new redirecting Trojan or virus for iPad 2. ? If yes how can I remove it and will it cause permanent damage to my device? How could I have got this virus and in 3 apps. I'm also, worried as I use my iPad to buy things online etc with my credit card. What shall I do?.. Do I restore my device? How do I do that as I cannot connect to iTunes as I do not have a computer, just my iPad. Any help appreciated thanks.

They broke a story on sept 4, 2012 titled "apple's iOS, the new favorite malware victims"
Despite the dramatic title of the article, the only mention of iOS in the body was this:
Even though malware is increasing in iOS, it still remains relatively low compared with other operating systems.
And, it provides no examples or other documentation. And, unlike you, I don't consider CNET "the most legit tech site on the internet". I find them to be generally biased in their reiviews and heavily influenced by advertisers.

The Forbes article descibes issues with the Mac OS, of which there always have been some, though certainly far fewer than there have been on the Windows platform. It goes on to speculate :
All those iPads, iPods and iPhones? Is this going to be a juicy enough target for the virus and trojan writers to at least attempt to attack, even given the difficulty of doing so?
Again, the Forbes article doesn't mention any current viruses, trojans or malware that exist which will affect an unjailbroken iOS device.
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/15/iphone-malware-kaspersky_n_1515074.html
And, the HuffPo article quotes Grebennikov thusly:
"Our experience tells us that in the near future, perhaps in a year or so, we will see the first malware targeting iOS," Nikolai Grebennikov, Kaspersky's chief technology officer, told Computing.
Again, even Kaspersky doesn't say such things exist now, merely that they might.
Speculation about what might happen in the future or articles focusing on the Mac OS or Android are not terribly relevant. So, if you do have any other citiations, preferably from a source that doesn't derive most of is revenue from the companies it reviews, that document a virus or trojan that affects an unjailbroken iOS device, I would be interested. I have not been able to find any. I thought, perhaps, as a professional, you might know of some.
    Thank you.

When will Windows 8.1 be supported on Boot camp 5? I have a new Mac book Pro 2013 and cannot install. Do I return the Windows version and try to download 8.0, or wait it out until it is supported? New to Mac's.
    Apple please advise.

    Dear Sirs,
I had just upgraded my OS to the OS X Mavericks.  After doing so, I noticed the following changes:
    1) My MS Outlook for Mac 2011 does not sync with my Mac book's calendar/contacts/notes.
    2) My iPhone4s does not sync with my Mac book's calendar/contacts/notes anymore.
    Please help, thank you.

Correct, USB local sync was taken away from iphones and ipads with 10.9.1 and 2. We are not allowed to speculate on rumours it might come back in 10.9.3 plus new iTunes. Either wait and see or explore Syncmate 5 beta free trial.
    icloud still works.

  • Please help "Alert:no Internet connection"

My MacBook pro has been acting weird,I can't connect to my airport,I'm using AT&T uverse and for some reason I can't use safari or the app store, please help.It works everywhere else,on my iMac,iPhone 4s and iPod,I don't see what the problem is.
P.S: it shows a exclamation mark where the wifi thing is

At the Apple store, you will find out exactly what is wrong.  You may find that the the problem may be fixed for free if it is really simple and requires no parts.  It may be that you will know what to do and be able to fix it yourself.  Until the problem is precisely defined, we can only speculate on what may be wrong.
If I were in your position I would take it to the store and then I would be able to make an informed decision.  I urge you to do so.
    Ciao.

  • Explain charging process change, please

I've read thru threads about why the IPT G2 won't change with many adapters that charge the G1 and other iPods. The common explanation seems to be that earlier chargers / iPods used "Firewire 12v pins." I'm having trouble understanding this explanation. We have four iPods: 30GB and 60GB Video (5G I think), a 4GB Nano 3G, and a new Touch 2G. All but the Touch will charge on several docks / USB chargers we have. The Firewire 12v explanation does not make sense; the USB spec has always been for 5vdc on the outer two pins (1 and 4), it's never had a 12v output, yet our other iPods all will charge fine on a USB adapter.
Can anyone offer a more complete and accurate explanation about what changed on the Touch 2G and other new iPods? If I'm totally missing something here, please set me straight.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    The explaination is simple:
Over two years ago Apple switched to USB charging for iPods. They maintained compatibility with Firewire to give other manufacturers a chance to make the change. Unfortunately, the other manufacturers, for the most part, just 'sat on their hands' and didn't make the change in their accessories.
Firewire charging and USB charging use different pins in the docking connection. Firewire voltage can vary from 8 to 30 volts while USB is just 5 volts.
Apple has never explained the reason for the change. We aren't supposed to speculate on Apple's plans.
Let me just say, as one who has been involved in the design and construction of electronics equipment for years, if I were trying to make a small device with lots of features, I wouldn't maintain two sets of charging circuitry and would drop the higher voltage charging for size and heat reasons. Apple may well have a completely different reason for making the change.
BTW, according to http://pinouts.ru/Devices/ipod_pinout.shtml , pins 19,20 are the Firewire + charging pins and pin 23 is the USB + charging pin.

Error message "Please contact iTune support to complete this transaction" when I was trying to purchase an app????
Help!! Any one experience this issue???
iTune support, "You are violating the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions specifically, however we're unable to speculate. You are not authorized to purchase from the US iTunes Store. From here please continue to review the terms and conditions in detail for further information."
Do you guys even read the "Terms and Conditions" ? There are thousands of words. who know what term I am violating. It works fine before 12/01/2012...I bet they don't even know what caused this problem...They keep asking me to read it without solving the problem...

"Dose that just happen after December 2012??"
No.  It has always been that way.
"So people who live in USA and while travel to other country are not allowed to buy anything? "
    Correct.
"how about people who work oversea for long term?"
They would need an itunes account based in the country in which they live.
"The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance."
    http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
It is the same for all countries itunes stores.

  • A few questions on FCE. Advice please.

Hello. I used iMovie 06 HD few days ago to combine a series of quicktime movies into one (with added music and titles). I was able to do it easily without any help. The only problem is that the characters in the animated titles looked fuzzy. So, I went out to buy iMovie 09 hoping that the problem would have been fixed in the new version.
I have tried iMovie09 for a few hours. I am completely lost even I have read the manual and watched the tutorial. First, I cannot import Quicktime movies nor movie created by iMovie 06 HD. Second, it seems that there are less control in title animations. In iMovie 06 HD, I could change several aspects (such as moving direction) of the title animations. I cannot do it under iMovie 09. Moreover, it seems that my favor title animation type "Bouncing Across" is gone in iMovie 09.
In my case, is it better to go for Final Cut Express? Can anybody please check if FCE has "Bouncing Across" title animation? Does FCE has the problem of outputing movie files with degraded/fuzzy characters in the titles? Finally, do you expect FCE 5 to be out soon (say next week)? Thanks.

    Hi there,
The fuzzy titles would be something to ask about on the iMovie forums. Personally, I would never use iMovie '09 because of how many features and how much versatility was lost in the revamping of iMovie HD.
As to FCE, there are several ways to create titles. You can either use the normal Text tool, the Boris 3D plugin (this is very powerful for creating titles), or the companion program LiveType to create the titles. Titles should not look fuzzy if created correctly.
Can anybody please check if FCE has "Bouncing Across" title animation?
Here's the thing to understand about FCE: it works in a way that is completely different from the iMovies. There are very few pre-made animations, but FCE gives you the power to create your own animations. Both FCE and LiveType (which comes with it) have the ability to "keyframe" your text, video, etc. In essence this means you define for the program how you want the text to look at a certain time, and how you want it to look at a later time or times. FCE then creates the animation between the two keyframes. I just looked at the "Bouncing Across" title in iMovie HD, and that same look can be created by keyframing in either FCE or LiveType.
Finally, do you expect FCE 5 to be out soon (say next week)?
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to speculate about future Apple products on this forum as it violates the [Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms] for the Apple Discussions. However, FCE is generally a selection of parts of the "big-brother" program, Final Cut Pro. So it is safe to assume that there won't be another version of FCE released until at least a few months after the release of Final Cut Studio 3, whenever that may be.

    Curt,
Earlier on, there was talk of Adobe doing just that. IIRC, those comments were made by a couple of the MOD's in a product forum. Considering the sources, I would speculate that Adobe was planning on working on that aspect, but has either not completed the task, or they have dropped that idea. Those guys are not prone to speculation, so they must have gotten the "word" from higher authorities. Of course, THAT is just speculation on my part...
    Good luck to us all,

Apple has not saidwhy they did it that way and it is against the terms of this forum to speculate on the reasons. It says not to:

The are third-party programs like TouchCopy that I think will allow you to do what you want.  You can import photos via DropBox.  The third-party programs will I know allow you to transfer the photos to your "new" computer.

  • Please post pictures of your sim cards

I saw something on a tear down of an iphone that has me very curious, could you please post pictures of your SIM cards please, so I could see if it was a 1 time thing or if it's a indicator of things to come. Does your SIM card have a fire ball with 3G on it?

The SIM card with the 3G logo is just a standard AT&T SIM. I went to an AT&T store to add a line to my parents family plan, and they handed me one of those "3G" SIM cards (I never told them I had an iPhone). Nothing to speculate about...

  • PLEASE HELP! ACTIVATION ON WINDOWS 8 PROBLEM

    Hey there!
I've got a big problem with my brand new G580 (20150). To start with, the first thing I've done after unpacking the laptop was formatting the whole HDD in case of installing the clean Windows 8 Pro without any bundled Lenovo applications. Fortunately, the whole installation proccess came with no issue. Then, I've installed the whole lot of drivers which made me glad about working of my new Lenovo. I've configured all just like I wanted it to be, and then unfortunately Activation issue started... I thought that it should come slightly, but I was wrong. The "0x8007232b" problem has met me, which I tried to solve with "slmgr -ipk ...." on cmd.exe. As you can speculate, this one gone wrong. I tried some combinations of stating the product code once again, including the "slui 3" method, but they haven't met the solution neither. Then, I tried "slui 4" which is for telephone activation. This one, to my surprise could only come through the "Afghanistan" option... I picked the number from my another computer and tried to activate it.
And then... I saw a communicate that thrilled the hell out of me - saying that my copy of Windows 8 is pirate!
What should I do now? I will really appreciate your help, as I don't know what to do for real, friends.

  • Is it worth it? Please Do Tell.

    Hello All,
I am a life long mac user currently owning a Power Mac G5 for video editing, and Mac Mini for the run of the mill things.
My question is, and I know it has been answered on countless threads and blogs around the globe, but is it safe to buy the MacBook yet. I realize this is a problem solving disscusion board; however, I hear little about truly solving the heat issue, and the turbo fan speeds.
I love Apple, I own stock, I hate Microsoft, and I have dreaded the Intel chip... But I want to move on with the technology in the portable and reasonable arena. I have heard so many mixed reviews, and I expect this to generate the same. But be honest, before I go to the store... IS IT WORTH IT?
And if anyone knows an honest answer as to if Apple is planning to do anything about the searing heat issue (firmware update etc.) I respect the fact that it is a laptop and I realize all laptops get warm...
Just a curious customer and loyal Mac User. Sorry if this is a duplicate post and or redundant question.

    PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8, Mac Mini G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Apple has issued firmware updates for the MacBook Pro and Intel Mac Mini as well as iMac. Whether they'll do so for the MacBook is unknown at this time, and we can't speculate on this board (please read Terms of Use on the right). However, here is the place where those firmware updates have been found, so you are welcome to watch that area for updates:
    http://www.apple.com/swupdates/
Articles detailing the issue with the plastic that sometimes is attached to MacBooks from the factory:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303848
and how to manage the heat on them:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30612
And yes, the MacBook is worth it. I'd buy it in spite of these problems. Remember this bulletin board is like a hospital. You get primarily those who have had issues, and rarely people who have none. I don't let what's on this board dissuade me. Be aware of the Intel Mac challanges which are becoming slimmer with every passing day, which I've written about:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#INTEL
And if they don't matter to you for which software you run, then if you need portability, the MacBook is a great deal, and well worth it.
