Please tell me I haven't lost years of data
My hard drive recently failed so I had it replaced. First time I haven't bought Applecare and the first time I actually needed it. Sigh.
So, I told the people who replaced it that I could install the operating system myself. Which is what I have spent all day doing.
First, I booted up from the Snow Leopard Install disk and tried to restore from Time Machine. It crashed.
So, I restarted. I was holding down the control key rather than the option key like I thought so it went to the online restore, asking if I wanted to restore Lion. I shrugged and said, "Sure. Why not?" So, six hours to download and install Lion.
I went to the App store and re-downloaded Mountain Lion. Another six hours of waiting.
So, finally everything is installed. I go to Time Machine to restore my data…and I can't get at it. None of the backups I've done back to three years ago show. I can only access back to the first backup since the operating system was reinstalled. They are there. I just can't access them.
I did the 'Select Device in the Finder window', went into Time Machine and now I could access the earlier backups. But only those things that are acessible to everybody. The data from the account on my old hard drive is unavailable to me.
Is that data now lost? Is there anyway to get at it? As I said there is literally years of data on there. Photos, important personal documents going back a decade and two other Macs.
Please, please, tell me I can get it back!
If you deleted his iCloud account in Settings>iCloud>Delete Account, then you did not delete his data from iCloud. You only deleted the account from the iPad.

What haven't you backed them up? You should always have a back up of any important material on your Mac. Make one now:
Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

found it on my own . the best way to do this is use the RetriveLimitedHierTreeCommand with a search on the taxonomy table.

Yes, we can.
I think the best place for you to start for this is the NI Developer Zone. I recommend beginning with these tutorials I found by searching on "data log rio". There were more than just these few that might be relevant to your project but I'll leave that for you to decide.

Please tell me I've not lost my songs!!
Ok so I downloaded the most recent Garageband app update after eventually getting round to putting ios7 on my iPad 3 couple of days ago.
I've been using an iTrack solo to record my songs with my iPad and until this most recent update it was smooth.
Started getting interference when switching between recording and tracks so I deleted the app and re-installed it, thinking all my songs would still be stored.....but they are all missing!!
I checked my iPad (Manage Storage ) settings for iCloud details and it shows the most recent back up was on 16/12/2013 with a Garageband amount of 2.5gb.
I've been working on these songs for months now and I had a LOT of stuff down, I'll have a break down if I have lost all of my songs, seriously please help?
How do I get my songs back into Garageband???

Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and install any updates available.
Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from. -

Ok I just did a BIG "oooops!" on sister inlaw's Macbook! Ok so I'm try to send an email and then notice that it will not send and just sits in the Outbox. She's on Comcast so I go to the Comcast page and look for Apple Mail settings and compare those to the settings that she has.....I see her are not correct, so I inadvertently remove her mail settings.......So I thought. **** it all if that didn't just REMOVE all of her email! **** it! Well, being on Comcast I check her settings and see that it's set to NOT delete any read mail and only delete unread mail after 45 days. So I'm thinking, 'Whewww!', right? WRONG! When I check her Webmail, there is NOTHING there! Apparently Apple Mail removed the messages from the server after it downloaded them!
****! Things are looking pretty bleak about now, unless I can find a recover utility that can recover the older removed mail data files that were there before I deleted them. I don't know what OSX has in terms of data recovery. I have a few things in Windows that would do the trick on Windows, but that don't help me here!
So my next question is, are there some recovery tools that can get her mail back. I have already tried to recreate her mail settings, so I hope that hasn't already overwritten the info. I'm trying to retrieve!

Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

There's no assurance that you will recover anything. If Comcast maintains temporary backups of mail accounts you could see if they can restore a prior state of her account. But don't count on it. -
I have had my IPAD2 for quite a while but haven't activated my cellular data for about a year. I am now trying to activate and when I go to cellular data, turn it on and try to tap view account i just get a message that says "connection to server lost". I could swear the last time I used cellular data you would see the signal in the upper left corner and I only see "no service" there, I am in a location where I know I should have service. Is there something I should do to my IPAD? I tried resetting, I tried clearing cookies and history in Safari (after reading a post n these discussions). I don't know what to do next. My IOS version is 6.1.3. I did go into Network from the general tab and I see it says "SIM not provisioned". HELP and Thank you in advance.

It sounds like the cellular data will not activate for some reason on the iPad.
I found this article that will help you resolve this issue here, named iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular Models): Troubleshooting a cellular data connection, found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4249
Check for a carrier settings update.
Update your iPad.
Toggle the Cellular Data setting off and on under Settings > Cellular Data.
Restart your iPad.
Tap Settings > General > About. Locate the Carrier entry and make sure that your carrier is correct.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Cellular Data > SIM PIN.
Make sure you're in an area of good coverage. If the cellular data connection works in another area, contact your carrier to report the original affected area.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Restore the iPad as new.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, contact your carrier, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
I know you may have done one or two of the steps here, so you can skip those.

Make sure you are dealing with the correct product for the serial number. If the serial number is for a full creative suite then you need to get the suite, not the individual application, and vice versa.
Unrelated to that, in case it helps, here is a link to another site. You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

In the libary of iPhoto I do have double pictures only in the year 2006. Can someone please tell me how to remove the double pictures. I did rebuilt the libary but that solution did not help me any further.
I think the warning is very clear.
What warning? Where do you say that this plan you suggest will lose at least some, and possibly a whole lot of metadata, plus the original files of edited photos. This is significant dataloss. And you should warn people that this is the case.
While your metadata and originals may not be important to you, that is not necessarily the case for other users.
Fourthly, and last, cleaning the iPhoto library should be done at least once per year
This is nonsense. The iPhoto Library has no need of "cleaning" and certainly not in any way that trashes a whole lot of data.
I'm very impressed that you assess the application based on the sound of the name. It's not a common way to review applications, but I'm sure it has some merit.
FWIW it has been recommended on this - and other - sites for many years and has proven safe and effective.

Not a hard restart (holding down the power button), I hope... if that's the case, then it is extremely unlikely the file is still intact on your computer. If it is, it would be an image on your RAM, and it is time-and-resource-intensive to recover it if it is even there. RAM memory is disposable and always being written over. Sorry dude...
If it wasn't a hard restart, Keynote should have made a backup, unless you 'Force Close'd it.
It really all depends on how your mac was shut down. -
