Please tell me there is a better way to configure multiple interfaces
I have a desktop with interfaces with statically assigned network addresses, I can't use rc.conf to configure them anymore so my /etc/rc.local file now looks like:
/sbin/ifconfig ext0 10.0.0.1/24
/sbin/route add default gw 10.0.0.1
/sbin/ifconfig int0 192.168.0.1/24
I don't like this; it seems completely in-elegant and, worse, if I need to start up any demons that require networking to work, they aren't going to work. I've considered patching the initscripts, but this is inelegant because then I have to merge changes every time I update them. I guess maybe the best solution is to write my script for /etc/rc.d/, choosing a name unlikely to be taken by any script I'm likely to start in the future. Please tell me there is a better way to do this.
I read the news, it indicates that I can no longer use rc.conf to configure both of my network interfaces. It suggests using network manager, which is silly, because all I need to do is assign static IPs. So I spent some hours trying to find any documentation or examples on how to set this up with netcfg, but was unsuccessful. Then I read some forum posts, but they had answers like "yeah, you can't do that anymore, read the news". That was not helpful to me either (unless you mean to suggest that I should be using iproute instead of ifconfig in my scripts, which I see no need to do, ifconfig works and I already know what options to pass it). I also tried searching the arch general mailing list, but didn't see anything addressing the topic either this month or last month.
At any rate, I still haven't found a better solution to configuring multiple network interfaces than writing my /etc/rc.d/ script, although I have come across one other possible solution, namely, installing and configuring ifplugd, which I hadn't considered before.

Ok, your slideshow, photo album template in iphoto is THE BOMB.. so cool!
But, someone thought, hey lets put one that cuts all the photos up and almost surely cuts the important part of whatever the original photo was.. grr?
It wouldn't be so bad, if we could go back through the presentation and mix and match to make that slide work, but inevitably, it cuts out someone's head?
Please tell me there is a work around, or way to tell it not to use that slide option? I'd rather have more photo on photos or multi photo frames than anything auto cutting pictures.

JasonMany of the themes are not designed for portrait oriented photos. That's what you're running into with the scrapbook theme. Not much you can do about it.
There's a 3rd party slideshow application, PhotoPresenter, that has over 25 animated themes. There are several that are sort of like the scrapbook that do handle the portrait as they should be handled. Some of the available themes are shown in this demo page: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes. Look at Portfolio, Frame and Album. It integrates seamlessly with iPhoto. and iTunes You can download and run it in demo mode.
The early fading of music in a slideshow is a well documented problem. Just send your complaint/bug report to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. The more reports the better. -
PLEASE tell me there is a way to apply automatic strokes using the Pen Tool.
To apply pencil and brush strokes using the Pen Tool (in Photoshop CC - the version I'm using), I would constantly have to right-click on my path, and on the dialog menu that pops up, select "Stroke Path...," then select which "Tool" (I namely use the Pencil and Brush tools), then hit "OK." And that gets ANNOYING. This is Photoshop CC - which means there should be a way for the Pen Tool to automatically apply the (Pencil/Brush) strokes while I'm creating paths. Illustrator does that - so there should be a way for Photoshop to do that as well. It's a software a majority of artists use; there SHOULD be a way to automatically apply pen strokes. PLEASE tell me there is.
You can do a shape rather than a plain path, and apply a stroke there. But, just plain vanilla; no fancy brush tips or scatter or anything like that.

Please tell me there is a way to recover my PROJECT!?!?!?
I was trying to go to another library when I noticed a dupliacte file. I "thought" I selected only that file and went to "Move project to trash". When I tried to see my original Project I've been working on for over 16 hours... it was GONE! It's not in my trash, not in the iMove-->Projects folder... Did I just hose myself?

Second day after updating to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4, my contacts have duplicated. Probably not all but many, and my contacts already numbered in the thousands.
Please tell me there is an easy fix to this problem!! I already had to go through contact-by-contact when I bought this phone and added contacts from my Blackberry and MS Outlook on the phone. Many duplicated at that time and Apple said the only fix was to go through each one and decide to keep or delete. I really don't want to do that again!I had this problem while I had iOS 5.1.1 installed for many months. Fortunately I only have about 150 contacts and only about half of them duplicated. I found that my problem was the way thing were set up in Outlook. I removed all of the duplicates and corrected everything in Outlook contacts (ignoring the address book) and have not had the problem since, Hope this helps.

Hi! I am a recovering from chemo patient -- lots of pain and can only sit for short periods as well as off and on brain fog yet I am alive and this is good. It took me 3 hours today to write a very important concise yet detailed and to the point message to a doc today using the hospital patient portal messaging system. I felt fantastic that I did it and I got it done and I did it well. That was a big deal for me at this point in healing. Just for any "in case" situation I did a "save" (to the clipboard) of my message before pushing "Send". I received the message: "Thank you! Your message has been sent." Then I called the doc office to let them know and while the phone was ringing I noiticed "where's the message?" and "Oh, no, no, no, it's not here!" I hung up. I looked under Help, read, decided to do "contact us" using my yahoo acct. instead of mail, I copied the address. Then it hit me -- Oh no, no, no, I did not just overwrite 3 hours of off and on writing of a very important message with a puny email address, did I?!
I searched using Finder, via the Library, via Clipboard, via this and via that -- the only thing I saw that was at the same time I had "saved" the text to the clipboard was under cache.db, and under type it said a document. I have no idea what that is or how to open it and when I selected it there was the message to go to the APP store or use an existing program/application and I have no idea what to chose. I don't even know if that might be what I saved to the clipboard before I made my great faux pas.
Could anyone please help me? Am I looking in the right place? Is there a right place?
When I do a Finder search for Clipboard the last entry was earlier on the 16th. I did this on the 17th. Under cache under library is the only matching time.
I don't think I have it in me to rewrite (let alone remember) that entire letter (message) .
I will be ever so grateful for advice, for how-to; oh please, there must be a how-to -- those words didn't just disappear into non-existance, right?

Hi, I know this is stupid, but without going into the how, I deleted important photos and actually backed up my icloud, so I think they are gone completely! I am furious with my self, is there anyway to retrieve this data from some space even if I have to be charged by apple ... just being hopeful...
Photo stream photos are not backed up, and when you delete them from one device, they are also deleted from iCloud and your other devices. If they were in your camera roll when you last back up you device, restoring the backup should recover them. Otherwise, they are, unfortunately, gone.
Also, photo stream photos don't use any of your iCloud storage so deleting them won't free any storage up in your account.
You can't really use iCloud to back up your photos. It's designed to stream them to your devices and share with others, not to back them up. In fact, photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days. In order to back up your photos, import them to your computer while they are still in your camera roll, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. Or, if you have a Mac that is signed into your account with photo stream enabled, and you are using iPhoto '11 9.2.2 or later, go to iPhoto>Preferences>iCloud and check Automatic Import. This will ensure that your photo stream photos are automatically imported to your iPhoto library where they will be safe (especially if you are using Time Machine to back up your Mac). -
Well I am heading in to the
apple services store to collect my computer which went dead in my power cut 10 days ago (discussed in my last post), and has since been fixed with new power supply. My question is - what's the cheapest and easiest way for me to back-up all my data (several thousand photos, and similar number of songs on iTunes, and a few quicktime video files) Is there a product I can buy to save it on - I have no idea how many gigs etc, that will be? and what I need to buy to do so, and finally, how easy/fast will it be to save everything.... this is indeed a very simple thing, I am sure, but I have never done it before, just saved odd bits on pen drives, etc..... The repair is costing over $400 - and as it's an old imac, aside from the fact it has all of Final Cut Pro Studio on it - it's hardly worth the repair price.... what I want though is to save everything as cheaply and simply as possible - what do I need to buy and how (in simple language please) do I save it... Not bigbox sell cheap stuff prices but fair prices. Like him I also like cloning with SuperDuper! or CCC. For most users CCC is perfect - SuperDuper! adds some extras that techs like.
But I'll also add a vote for Apple's own TimeMachine. It is an automatic backup system that runs every hour; the first backup takes a while and the rest not very long because they are backing up only the chances made in the last hour. Due to its schema, TimeMachine is most effective with a backup drive that is 2-3 times larger than your backup set. If you are using 200GB of your 500GB drive, then your TimeMachine backup drive should be at least 400GB and preferably closer to 600GB.
The two backup schemes are different and having two different backups is a very good idea - backup drives have been known to die . The clone's advantage is that it is a bootable system disk - if your computer's drive dies you can boot with it and keep working until you get the computer repaired. If your computer's drive gets messed up you can boot with the clone and try to repair it or at least recover some of the most recent files that aren't on the clone. (Which happens to be one of the disadvantages of a clone - people tend to reclone somewhat infrequently.) Having TimeMachine means you have very recent backups.
So if you intend to keep using this computer - TimeMachine might be the better choice - or at least another consideration. If you are just grabbing data - CCC will do the trick best. -
Please tell me there is a fix to keep backspace key from sticking
Backspace key constantly sticks and wipes out most if not all I have types. Has done it twice in last couple of minutes while typing these posts or threads. Also, why is typing so slow or behind on 3G, but not so on the 2G.
I'm having the same issue even after updating to 2.0.2 yesterday. It wiped out a good deal of text. Until they come out with a fix, I have discovered that pressing "Done" when this is happening stops it. It's not a permanent fix, and you have to be fast before it erases a good portion of the text, but it's better than losing everything.

I would love to find a short cut when I am in "Mail" and want to quickly return to my most current email. I have tried "command-option-arrow", but it doesn't work?? ( I was given this suggestion at the local Apple store). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Nick

They are actively working to improve the Apple Maps app.
It is extremely unlikely that you will get the Google Maps app back, as the built in app. Google may release an app one day in the app store.
You can alos look for other Map apps in the app store. -
What's the best way to configure multiple email accounts?
First time poster, just switched over from Blackberry to he iPhone yesterday. I use Mail, iCal, Address Book, iTunes, iWeb, and iPhoto. I have 2 Macs (a Macbook for work and an iMac for home) and an iPhone 3G.
Here's what I want to do:
1) I have 4 email boxes - work (pop3), gmail, yahoo, and mac (are gmail and yahoo imap or pop3?). I need them to all be on the iPhone and synched to each mac. It seems logical that if all the accounts and structure are on MobileMe, then it is the driver of messaging, not one of the Macs. (Is anyone else getting like 1-2 minute response time on MobileMe?) Even with pop3, shouldn't email originated from the iPhone be shown on the Macs? Right now, I have no record on my computer that I ever sent that message other than a "message sent" email in my inbox after the iPhone delivers the email.
2) I have a lot of my mail organized in folders under "On My Mac". I understand from the discussion board that these folders will not synch to MobileMe or the other devices. Question is, where should I move them to make it happen, and what will that look like on the iPhone? Do they have to go in subfolders to each account's inbox? That's a lot of data given the large number of attachments I have and thousands of emails.
3) Aren't iPhoto and iTunes supposed to be included in the MobileMe functionality? I can't figure out how to make that happen. I got photos and music on the iPhone through a physical synch. That doesn't get them on each of my Macs. Will that even work given each computer has to be specifically authorized to play purchased music?
Sorry, I know this is a lot of stuff in a single post, and believe it or not, I am not a technology dummy. But I am a busy guy and simply need to get this working. Apple's documentation is very sketchy.Two single app can not be clubbed, it shall be better if you get the complete CC, you can check if you are eligible for any promotional offer price.

Is there a better way to generate custom timed digital Signals
I am trying to generate digital output of high and lows with particular delays on different lines. Each daq assistant is activating single line on a port on USB 6501. There more complex high and lows that I need to generate with variable time difference between high and low. There is codebelow which accomplishes what I am trying to achieve but for executing a long pattern of high and low signal is very time consuming to do this way. I am sure there is a better way to do this, I not a expert on labview so I haven't uncovered its full potential. Can anybody suggest a more effective and a quick way to do this. I would hgihly appreciate. Thanks!
