Please tell me this is possible...

Hi
I have a G4 and just installed OS X 10.3 and basicly running out of memory. I have 2 partitions, OS 9 and 10. I have 12G of disk available where 6.0 goes to the first partition (OS 9) and 6 to the second ( OS X). I still have memory available but only on the first partition. How can I resize the disk memory?. It appears grey and can't unlock it.
Thanks for the help.
G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

PS: RAM = Memory as in your G4 has a max support for 2GB of DDR333/PC2700 (if you have an MDD G4).
Disk drives are storage capacity and are usually 80-500GB (gigabyte).
Depending on your G4 model, you may have support for large (48-bit LBA) drives greater than 120GB or not. And if not, would need a controller card.
Based on the sizes you mention, it sure sounds like an older (much older) hard drive and probably G4. In which case you might want to look into a disk drive controller (ATA or SATA) and my advice would be to get SATA (Serial ATA) and SATA type drives.
OS X today needs at least 10-20GB drive space, plus whatever you need for files you keep. A 2nd drive for backup. Even a drive with an emergency system.

I have iphone 4g and have updated to ios6 an updated itunes 2, but while sync itunes freezes and iphone is not sybc fully, finally i have to disconnect my iphone for itunes to shunt down. Can some one please tell why this is happening?

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

  • Checking links TO a specific file, please tell me this is finally available...

OK, it's been a few years since I originally asked this question. I think it was back when I was using DW 4, or maybe 3. I'm sure there's an answer by now since we're up to version CS4, which I guess is DW 10, right? (I'm still using DW 8 because I haven't considered the new features that useful.) I did use the search but I don't see any solutions. I will be SHOCKED if this is still not a feature. I refuse to upgrade again until this feature is there as a matter of principle.
Before I delete any document (I usually delete 5-10 each day), I check to see if any pages are linked to it. The best (fastest) way I've found is to just hit delete on the file and see if a warning message pops up from the site cache listing some pages that link to it. If so, then I use the find command to find all the pages with that filename in the source code. If no warning pops up, it's safe to remove it. I've always considered this a lame way to find out if any other pages link to a file. Even more lame (lamer?) is having to navigate through a gigantic site map or having to use the find command that rips through every single file on the site. So, can someone please tell me if I can finally right-click the file and choose something like "pages that link to this file." The data is right there in the cache, and if it can show it in the warning message, why not have a command for it?
    Thanks in advance! I'm optimistic...
    Joe

  • Please tell me it's possible to download MP3 to your mobile device.

    Hello,
I'm simply trying to offer a downloadable podcast (MP3) through our Saba LMS for computer and mobile device.
So far, PC isn't a problem to download, but how can my user download the MP3 using their mobile device? I can only think that it has to be emailed to them, then accessed through their mail app and saved it there. I mean, how do you download anything w/ a phone/tablet? I couldn't if I was using a browser app (Safari, etc.) on my iPhone.
Does anyone ever need to do this? I'm sorry maybe it isn't possible at all to download MP3 from an LMS (or even public URL) to your phone, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Thank you in advance.

Hmmm, wondering if you choose the right forum. Do you use Captivate, because this is a Captivate forum,

  • Please tell me it's possible to recover Mail data.

    Hello,
Ok I just did a BIG "oooops!" on sister inlaw's Macbook! Ok so I'm try to send an email and then notice that it will not send and just sits in the Outbox. She's on Comcast so I go to the Comcast page and look for Apple Mail settings and compare those to the settings that she has.....I see her are not correct, so I inadvertently remove her mail settings.......So I thought. **** it all if that didn't just REMOVE all of her email! **** it! Well, being on Comcast I check her settings and see that it's set to NOT delete any read mail and only delete unread mail after 45 days. So I'm thinking, 'Whewww!', right? WRONG! When I check her Webmail, there is NOTHING there! Apparently Apple Mail removed the messages from the server after it downloaded them!
****! Things are looking pretty bleak about now, unless I can find a recover utility that can recover the older removed mail data files that were there before I deleted them. I don't know what OSX has in terms of data recovery. I have a few things in Windows that would do the trick on Windows, but that don't help me here!
So my next question is, are there some recovery tools that can get her mail back. I have already tried to recreate her mail settings, so I hope that hasn't already overwritten the info. I'm trying to retrieve!
Thanks SOOOOOO much for ANY help!
    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
There's no assurance that you will recover anything. If Comcast maintains temporary backups of mail accounts you could see if they can restore a prior state of her account. But don't count on it.

  • Please Tell Me This Can Be Fixed!

After trying to locate duplicates using a program called Tidy Up and having problems, I decided to go back via Time Machine and reinstate the iPhoto library before using TU.  Well, I got some photos back but many are now missing.  Below is what I see:
There are spaces where the photos "should" be but aren't.  This is disastrous as many of our vacation shots are gone + various family photos that aren't reproducible.  I'm reluctant to mess anymore with iPhoto at this point.  If anyone has any idea on what happened, or, how to fix this I would be eternally grateful.

Primary Rule of iPhoto (and all database programs) NEVER make any changes of any sort to the contents of the database using any program other than the database program
you have destroyed your library using Tidy Up - your choices are to load your backup from prior to your doing this (this is why you always have backups to protect from errors, human, software and hardware) or to create a new library and start over with the originals from your old library
Bottom line - it can not be fixed - never use third party programs to modify the contents of the iPhoto database

  • Please tell me this isn't going to be an all day project

i am trying to setup my niece's zen micro (5gb) that was purchased 5/06. i have started to read the faq and some of the forum posts but all that is sort of making me?more confused and frustrated in looking for the answers i need thru a lot of?information.
hoping things aren't going to be complicated and problematic... there were two songs on her computer that they had purchased from itunes located in the windows media player library. i was able to get them onto the zen micro and they are playing fine. now, what do i do to add more songs? can i purchase from itunes? and then i need to get them into the windows media player library?is that basically how it works??if someone could advise on the basic things i need to do, i would appreciate it. callye's aunt nancy

Here is the information for the Yahoo music software and service. I double checked, the Zen Micro *is* compatible with the Yahoo music purchasing service, but you may or may not require a quick update. This should be easy to install IF you need it, and you can find out about it here http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/music/jukebox/portdevices/portdevices0.html
Here is the page for Yahoo Music Unlimited (music downloading service) http://music.yahoo.com/ymu
There are different options here - it looks like you can buy songs for 99 cents each (like you can on ITunes) and download them to your Zen Micro, or you can pay a monthly subscription fee (Yahoo Music Unlimited TO GO $4.99) and that gives you access to download as many songs as you want from their catalog of 2+ million songs. You listen to them on your computer or the MP3 player as long as you want (as long as you keep paying the subscription) then go get more songs when you want to.
I haven't tried the Unlimited service but my Zen Micro works perfectly with the Yahoo Jukebox, so I think that might be the way to go.

  • Please tell me this is NORMAL

ok, so i know that the HDD on the ipod makes all the usual clicks when it's being read from or written to.
Is it normal for there to be a markedly louder clunk from the ipod's HDD when turning the ipod sideways or moving it slightly abruptly while the ipod hdd is being written to or read from.
while watching a movie on the pod, a flick of the wrist, side to side, induces a "cluclunk" sound from the iPod.
like wise, when putting data onto the iPod, the same action has the same result.
Be honest you guys.... how ill is my Pod?

i've never noticed it being this sensitive before... or maybe i'm just being paranoid.
what happened was after i noticed the louder sound, i moved it around quite a bit and ejected the pod shortly thereafter.
i got the folder+exclamation icon, but luckily a reset fixed that.
this makes me worry because what would happen should i go jogging, or just vigorously climb some stairs while listening to music....
does this damage the HDD at all?

    Is this right?

What is the problem here ? Virtually every other phone provider on the Planet (well maybe just the US) does this already and has done this for years; just in a differant manner.
Go to several differant phone service providers and check all the differant variations of capabilities of a phone common to all of them, based on what the phone is built to do and what Verizon or other provider allows that phone to do.
GPS is a good example: My last several kphones from Verizon all had GPS radios but Verizon Spce'ed the phone from the vender (HTC in these cases) with the GPS radio crippled in order to sell you their GPS service which would turn on the GPS function. Easy enough to hack but sort of a PIA.

  • HT201401 Only some of my music that I have downloaded from itunes plays on my iphone. The songs that wont play have a round circle with a darker square in the middle. Can someone please tell what this means and how I can get the rest of my music on my iph

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match.  Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.

When I try to install itunes I get an error message that says "Cannot access internet connection \."  Can someone please tell what this means?
    My internet connection is working.

Okay. We'll try a different utility.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
