PLEASE VERIFY: movies from canon cameras crash quicktime, finder, iPhoto!!

Hi, I just wanted to see if anyone else out there can duplicate this problem. I have tested this now on two different macbooks and one macbook pro with the same result. When dumping movies recorded off canon digital cameras, quicktime is unable to play them and immediately crashes without warning. I have tested this in many different cases. Even using image capture to pull the movies off works fine, but if you "preview" the movie using the column view in finder, or even using get-info, causes the finder to instantly reboot. I have tested this with the following cameras all with the same result:
- Canon Powershot SD200
- Canon Powershot A85
- Canon Powershot A70
For all you macbook owners out there, here is a small sample movie that I recorded a few minutes ago from a powershot A70. This movie plays fine on every PowerPC based mac I have tested, but as of yet, no Intel mac will play it. Let me know what you guys find! Also, if you click on this movie and safari gives you the "quicktime with question mark" then try ctrl-clicking and doing "download linked file" and then play it in the finder. You'll see. It'll crash

White Macbook 2.0Ghz, 2GB ram, superdrive   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It played fine on my MacBook as well.
You might create a new user on your MacBook using the Accounts System Preferences. Log out and log in as the new user. Import your movie into the new user's account. Does the movie make the Finder crash as well? If so, you have a system-wide problem. If not, then your user has a preference or setting problem.

  • Transfer pics **DIRECTLY** from Canon camera(SDcard) via**WIRE** to iPhone3G?

Is there a way to transfer pics  **DIRECTLY**  ie, **NO COMPUTER** from Canon camera(SDcard) via  **WIRE**ie., **NO WiFi**  to iPhone3G?
Do you all understand my question?
Please don't respond that I need a computer to do that...I know this.
What I want is a "device" like a card reader, that will plug **DIRECTLY** into an iPhone...Thanks.

The only way I could think of to do this would be by using the camera connection kit. One of the 2 pieces is a dock-USB connector so your could plug the camera directly into it, the other piece is a card reader that plugs into the dock connector. It's designed for the iPad. I haven't heard of anyone trying to use it on an iPhone. I'm sure someone has tried, but I have no idea what the result would have been.

  • Why I cannot import movies from my camera to iMovie?

I have an iMac with Mac OS X 10.7.5 and I'm trying to download some movies from my Canon PowerShot SX210IS. To download movies I am using iMovie 09 Version 8.06.
When I click on the "Open Camera Import Window" it only shows one alternative as shown below.
It shows "Built-in iSight" and there is no other alternative to select my camera ...
How can I make iMovie to show my camera in the down arrow so I can select it and download my movies?
Your advise and recommendation will be appreciated very much.

    Hello AppleMan1958:
Thanks a lot for your answer, but this is exactly what I am doing and what it does is showing my own picture from the camcorder in my computer. I don't have any alternatives to directly import my movies from my camera.
I have received answer from Klondike Kid and gave me the possible cause of my problems. iMovie does not recognize digital still cameras as "movie" cameras. I will have to use an external USB card reader in order to import directly from iMovie.
Again, thanks a lot for your answer.

  • Do I need multicam in order to create a movie from multiple cameras?

Do I need multicam in order to create a movie from multiple cameras? The old fashioned way is just to simply put multiple video clips into multiple video tracks in Final Cut, right? Then I can transition the tracks as I see fit.
Multicam in Final Cut Pro simply improves upon this by hard synching timecodes right?
As an amateur, do I really need multicam features in Final Cut Pro in order to make a movie from multiple camera angles?

Will it make your editing tasks more efficient? Not
likely. Multicam is an advanced feature of FCP. It
requires knowing how most of the application's basic
    operations are performed.
I have to disagree with bog in that multicam is all about efficiency and being able to quickly set-up and edit what could normally take a lot longer. But he is totally correct in that it is a strange set-up with some strange behaviors so if you don't know what you're doing and plan accordingly it could take a lot longer and be a lot more frustrating than the 'old fashioned' way.
I think it's also important to note that multi-cam is way more than just the "real time" switching of the multiclip in the viewer as it plays back. If you can take time to learn the ins and outs of multi-cam then you can use some features on some jobs and other features at other times. An amateur can do anything that the FCP software because it's there in front of you so play play play!

Can Photoshop Elements version 13 handle raw files from Canon camera 7D mark 2?
Where can I read about it on Adobe web site?
I found an Adobe web site note that raw plug-in version 8.7 will support Canon 7D mark 2, but is not included in Elements version 11.

  • I've downloaded movies from iTunes, where do I find them on my iPad?

I've downloaded movies from iTunes, where do I find them on my iPad?

My bad, was looking at my iPhone and not my iPad, you and Kappy are of course correct.

  • HT204370 i bought movies from itunes, now i cant find them and have to re-buy those movies again. Pls help

i bought movies from itunes, now i cant find them and have to re-buy those movies again. Pls help

Films can't be redownloaded in all countries, and even where they can be not all studios have agreed to it. Have you checked to see if you they show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes, and the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone ?
If you can't redownload them you haven't got a copy of them on your backup of your downloads/library ?

  • I have recently purchased a Panasonic TZ30 but I find that although still photos with upload into iphoto movies will not. I use imovie a great deal and find that I am not able to use the movies from my camera. Can anyone explain please ?

Can anyone esplain why I cannot upload movies from my Panasonic TZ30 camera? I able to upload stills and I was able to upload movies from my previous Panasonic TZ5. Since I use iMovie a gret deal it is very disappointing not to be able to use the videos from my new camera.

What format are you shooting? AVCHD? Not all versions of that are supported.
A note on AVCHD: This format was developed for people who are shooting to edit the material afterwards. If you're shooting to edit, then iMovie or Final Cut are the correct home for this material. If you're not shooting to edit consider using one of the other video formats on your Camera.

  • HD video from Canon camera Desktop

I just bought a Canon SX20 IS, that records HD video 1248 x 702 .mov. When I drag the file to the Desktop, it won't play correct. Very choppy. If I import to iMovie, it plays fine and exporting back to the Desktop at full quality it plays fine. So is the choppy play from the camera HD file a result of the iMac G5 not being able to handle the HD file?? Doesn't make sense to me why it won't play, except in iMovie.

I'm using a card reader. If I drag the movie file to the Desktop from the mounted SDHC card, eject the SDHC card, the movie won't play right. I assume it's not playing from the USB connection because I ejected the card. The movie will not play from the mounted SDHC card itself, or when dragged to the Desktop, whether the card has been ejected or not. It will only play in iMovie or when exported from iMovie. I wasn't sure if this was an iMac, iMovie or Quicktime Forum question. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Importing Movies from Canon SD1000?

I Can't import a movie taken on the Canon SD1000.
Canon says this feature is not supported for Mac OSX.
Is there any way to work around this?
I tried iViewMedia Pro but that didn't work either.
    Please help.

I've been able to import movies from the SD1000 using Image Capture just fine. I just couldn't play them using Quicktime. (Quicktime says it needs some software and takes you to Apple's site but doesn't tell you what software you need! Duh...) Anyway Perian (mentioned above) did the trick!

  • Can iphoto be confgured not to import movies from the camera?

Hello, Does anyone knows if iphoto 8 can be configure not to try to import the movies stored on the camera? It cause the import process to be very difficult trying to select only the photos to be imported and leave the movies to be imported by imovie. I will like iphoto only to import photos and imovie to import movies.

No there is no way to specifically tell iPhoto not to import movies.
However, if you sue a camera that mounts on the desktop (or, in the case of a Canon camera, use a USB Card Reader) you can direct iPhoto to import from the Photos folder on the Card using the File -> Import Command

  • How to import AVCHD movies from Canon HR10 (mini DVD) to iMac / iMovie?

I have just bought an iMac (I am a PC user for a very long time and not yet familiar with the Mac software), and I am having troubles with some basic tasks: I want to transfer AVCHD movies from my Canon HR10 (mini DVDs) to my iMac / iMovie. However, the iMac / iMovie does not seem to recognize the camera when I connect it via the USB cable, i.e. nothing happens at all (the disc is finalized, and the camera is in "Play" mode). I have also tried to import the contents of the mini DVDs via a network harddisk, but iMovie does not seem to recognize the format?! I don't know what I am doing wrong?

I think iMovie will want to see the camera as a device before it will do the import.
Not sure you can import direct from the card, as your experiments have shown.
It may be due to the processing of the video as it comes off the camera.
Other people may have a solution though.

  • Can't download photos from canon camera

Since I downloaded Yosemite, I can't get my Mac desktop to recognize my Canon PowerShot SD1100IS Digital ELPH camera.  I've gone into Preview, Finder and Image Capture and it's not there.  How do I get my photos onto my computer from the camera?

Same here... I have a Powershot Elph340HS and a SD960IS, I've updated Canon ImageBrowser and CamaraWindow and it just says "no camera detected"... so I used a different usb to make sure it wasn't that, I've tried everything, Preview, iPhoto, even iMovie... all of which worked before for importing from my cameras...
    OS X Yosemite (10.10) I'm on a Macbook Pro

  • Exported Movie from FCP 7 to Quicktime. Audio is only bad on ONE COMPUTER with ONE HEADPHONES, why?

Exported the movie from FCP 7 into a Quicktime video, one problem.
Have three computers...the audio sounds great on all of them when using headphones #1 (http://www.amazon.com/iHome-LifeTalks-Basic-Headset-Black/dp/B001QXDMVE/ref=sr_1 _8?ie=UTF8&qid=1407521145&sr=8-8&keywords=ihome+headset). Audio also sounds great coming out of two stereo systems.
But with headphones #2, a cheap pair of "Skull candy" headphones, the audio sounds great on computers 1 and 2, but when I listen to my video on computer 3, there is heavy static and backround noise, like a radio station that is out of tune. Everything else I listen to on computer 3 with headphones 2 sounds totally normal.
How is such a thing possible?
What steps can I take to "fix the audio"? I already "normalized the audio" (All audio was: .WAV files, recorded with a zoom H2 recorder). Could this be a hardware issue of some kind? This computer is an AspireX1430 bought 2 years ago, with whatever sound card it came with. I'd hate to put my video online only to find out later that for certain viewers the audio won't plan on their system.
    Thoughts? Thank you!

    Thanks!
Yeah it is crazy to me that everything with this headphones and computer sounds normal, except for my one video!  Other youtube videos even sound good!
Sent the video to our marketing department it will be mass emailed to 5000 customers shortly
I feel confident enough...the video sounds great on 4/5 computers at least and probably a lot more!!!!
