Please Vote - ODTUG Hyperion SIG Election Starts Today!

This week ODTUG holds it's annual Hyperion SIG Elections. No matter who you vote for, I really hope you'll vote in the election. There is a collection of great folks running. The list includes several friends, associates, and compatriots. However, I hope after reading my running statements below, your decision will be a bit easier.
While I normally much prefer the "in the trenches doing" part over "self promotion", I want to take this time to self promote so that, if elected, I'll be able to DO even more.
Technology & service has been an integral part of my life for over 20 years, EPM products specifically for over 12 years. My ever growing passion for the Hyperion technology has reached the point, after consulting & developing for 12 years, that now I'm building a software product designed to make using and administering these products an even greater joy.
I've also found a great fit in ODTUG and the people who serve within it. By serving on the Hyperion SIG I can give back far more than just helping to stuff bags at the conference and helping with ambassador needs (yes, if you had a bag at KScope, it probably had some of my sweat on it).
As a business owner and independent software vendor I have the time, energy, experience, and freedom to be a willing steward for the ODTUG community and a dedicated, capable, and energetic contribute to the Hyperion SIG.
While these statements are more about the election, my overall dedication to ODTUG doesn't begin and end with the SIG; I will continue to contribute as a volunteer regardless of the election results, but I'm sure I'll be able to provide you the greatest level of service as part of the Hyperion SIG. Thanks for your support."

  • ODTUG - Hyperion SIG

Below is a copy of a letter that can be found on the ODTUG Hyperion SIG site (www.ODTUG.com), please take a minute to read when you have a chance.
    Thanks
    August 1, 2009
    Dear ODTUG Members,
My name is Gary Crisci and I am the new president of the Oracle Development Tools User Group - Hyperion Special Interest Group. I wanted to take a moment of your time to introduce myself and the rest of the board and tell you a little bit about the ODTUG Hyperion SIG and what our plans are for this year.
Our SIG board is made up of some of the most talented individuals in this field. Angela Wilcox of JC Penney is our Secretary and Cameron Lackpour of InterRel is our website coordinator. Other members of the board are Doug Bliss of Ace Cash Express, Natalie Delemar of Randstad, Quinlan Eddy of Star Analytics, Jeff McAhren of HealthMarkets, Edward Roske of InterRel, Tim Tow of Applied OLAP, and John Weimar of Kerdock Consulting. I’m sure many of you recognize most of these names and would agree we have some of the best Hyperion talent on our board. We are also privileged to have Al Marciante of Oracle as a board advisor.
As president of the Hyperion SIG, my primary role is to lead the committee that organizes the Hyperion content for the Kaleidoscope conference and this is something the board and I are already working on. Kaleidoscope 2009 was a huge success. We were one of the only conferences this year to increase our attendance despite one of the worst economic climates in recent history. This is a testament to the quality of the speakers, presentations, and training featured at the Kaleidoscope conference. If you have not already checked it out, I would recommend going to the Kaleidoscope website (http://www.odtugkaleidoscope.com/) and having a look around. Our goal is to make Kaleidoscope 2010 an even bigger success, with more speakers, more presentation tracks, more vendors, and more attendees. Kaleidoscope has become the conference for Essbase developers, and as an Essbase developer I can assure you this will remain one of the primary focuses of the conference. However, the board and I plan to expand our scope further next year to provide more content for other areas of the Hyperion suite such as Planning, HFM/Enterprise, and our new friends at OBI. As developers, many of us on the board have worked on financial consolidation projects and recognize the development efforts that go into an HFM roll out. The developers that work on these projects are talented technicians and deserve a place to network and expand their skill set. We will provide them this opportunity at Kaleidoscope 2010.
I would like to ask all of you to start thinking about what you would like to see at Kaleidoscope next year and encourage you to reach out to me and the rest of the SIG board. The Kaleidoscope conference is your conference and I hope you will participate in helping us make it the best it can be. This invitation goes out to all members and non-members as well as vendors. In addition to building up user attendance at the conference, I have also made it a goal to increase vendor participation this year. So if you are a consultant or vendor, please reach out to us with your ideas.
Beyond the Kaleidoscope conference, one of my other major goals as president is to increase our SIG’s membership. If you are not a member of the ODTUG – Hyperion SIG, I would like to invite you to visit our SIG website (http://www.odtug.com/apex/f?p=500:320:0::::P320_SIG_ID:121) and consider becoming a member. ODTUG offers two membership types. There are paid members and associate members (associate membership is free). Paid members get the benefit of premium content and discounts to ODTUG events such as Kaleidoscope. Becoming a member of an industry group is one of the best things you can do for your career. I have personally gained so much from my industry affiliations. Beyond the networking opportunities and access to industry information, it is also something valuable to add to your resume. Participation in an industry group shows a dedication to your craft and represents you as a serious professional. I encourage all of you to join us if you are not currently a member. Additionally, please join the ODTUG Linkedin group (http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1796201) as another way to be kept in the loop on communications with the board.
Lastly, I would like to take the opportunity to thank those of you who voted me back onto the board this year, and I would like to thank the Hyperion SIG board for entrusting me with the role of president. I consider it a privilege to serve on this board and in this capacity. I would also like to thank our outgoing president Edward Roske. Edward has committed himself, and his company, to the ODTUG Hyperion SIG in a way few individuals do. His tireless efforts have led to Kaleidoscope being the premier Hyperion conference and I can only hope to do as good a job as he has done. Lastly, I would like to thank the ODTUG board of directors for their overwhelming support of our group. ODTUG has stepped up in a way no other organization has to support the Hyperion community and their support has been unwavering. They have given us the opportunity to bring our culture and integrate it with their unique philosophy of how a user base community should be served, with an emphasis on training, and focus on the development of the individual. The enthusiasm demonstrated by ODTUG for Hyperion would lead you to believe they have been working with us for many years. They have truly welcomed us into their family and we appreciate it.
I would like to thank you for your participation in the ODTUG Hyperion SIG; our members are what make our group the best in the industry. Please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or any other member of the board if there is anything we can do for you.
    Best regards,

  • Window 8.1 lost connectivity to Exchange 2013 (started today)

I've done a few searches for the errors we are getting, but things that I have tried (corrupt user profiles, registry edits on the client pc, etc) have all been unsuccessful.
Our environment mainly consists of Windows 7 machines.  We have three Windows 8.1 machines (there are only three on our network) that we have been testing with before we roll them out.  These Windows 8.1 machines have been talking to Exchange 2013
for months (since our roll out in Summer 2014).  One Windows 8 machine is connected to the domain, the other two are not.  Starting today, all three computers have started prompting for passwords.  Nothing has changed (no patches/config changes,
etc) on the server and its last reboot was three weeks ago.  The Windows 8.1 machine that is joined to the domain has Office 2007.  The Other Windows 8 machines have Office 2013.  We have many Windows 7 machines running both Outlook 2007 and
2013 with no problems at all.
The user account can log into OWA.  We can set up the profile on a Windows 7 box with no problem.  The only common thing is Windows 8.1.  iPhones/iPads/Android devices still work, too; with the tested user account (three accounts).
I ran through most tests on the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer and everything passes.
I've turned on Outlook logging, but since it doesn't get past authentication, the logs really do not help much (if I'm looking in the right "outlook logging" folder under the AppData/temp directory.
I've tried looking at the HTTP logs on the exchange server, but they do not seem to point me in a direction.
I'm grasping at straws and not sure what to look for next.  I'm going to install patches on the Exchange Server this weekend and reboot it, but I'm really thinking something on the Windows 8.1 client is causing the issues.  Any thoughts or directions?
    Regards,
    JA

    Hi,
According to your description, I noticed that the issue only happens to three Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users. And the issue doesn’t occur when setting up the problematic user’s Outlook profile on a Windows 7 machine.
If that is the case, the configuration in Exchange server side should be OK because the client user can connect to mailbox in Windows 7 machine. Please check the following settings in Windows 8 machine:
    a. Start Microsoft Outlook.
    b. Click File > Account Settings, click Account Settings.
    c. Click the E-mail tab, click the Exchange account, and then click Change.
    d. Click More Settings, and then click the Connection tab.
    e. “Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP” should be checked, then click Exchange Proxy Settings.
    f. Note the checkbox for fast network and slow network should be both checked:
    g. Make sure the Proxy authentication settings is set to NTLM Authentication.

At the right side of this forum page, you will find a forum poll "Do you generate UIX or JSP pages with JHeadstart?". Please vote, this information is important for us with regards to future upgrades to JSF / ADF Faces. You can vote one time for each application that you have built / are building with JHeadstart.
    Thank you all!

    JHeadstart Team.

Hey Jeff just wanna thank you for taking your time making this post. I just wanted to say hopefully it will help a lot of people. But awhile ago I was thinking and probably will start soon a FAQ post where I add in the most commonly questions people post in here. For example:
What is the best protective case for the Nano?
*List many good sites with good cases*
How Do I reset my Nano?
Answere here...can't think on top of my head
Why wont my Nano turn on?
    Reset
Of course it will be more detailed but you see my point?

  • Every time I close a window my app tabs disappear. The requested solutions haven't worked. I haven't updated FF recently and this problem only just started today for no apparent reason. What's wrong? How do I fix this?

Starting today my app tabs started closing when I closed my browser. I have tried the suggested solutions but they haven't worked. I haven't updated FF recently. I do have to close my browser frequently because the internet service my family has is of low quality and constantly looses service. Every time it gets service again it asks you to close your browser and start again. App tabs help me keep my sessions when this happens.
PS I recently got a virus that infected my Window's Updater, so I can no longer shut down my computer unless I want it to infect my computer. Please find a solution that does not involve shutting down my computer.
PSS I am currently running Fire Fox 5.0 on Window's 7, if that helps.

It turns out that my hard drive was shot. I took my MacBook to the Apple Store on Wednesday, they kept it for analysis and repair. They replaced the hard drive, and I've already got it back (Friday; less than two days in total).
Although I did check my hard disk with the disk utility, it did not identify the problem.
Some other troubleshooting advice that I overlooked was to try reinstalling my OS and to try starting up in Safe Mode. Neither would have helped in this case, but they may be useful for someone else having similar problems.
Other advice - always make sure your data is backed up and that you Apple Care coverage is up to date.

if you use IE and Firefox you can vote once with each browser
I did similar recently, when my wife was nominated in the "Top 100 People in Healthcare." I fired up every computer that I had around here, and cast my vote. Had to install a browser onto two. Did not think about sticking more browsers on all of them. I used to have a box with about a dozen different ones, to test Web page design. Unfortunately, that box is long gone, and so are most of those archaic browsers.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS if you ever do a re-edit of that, you might want to think about putting in an ambience track, between the scenes that have so much ambient noise - just something in the background so you don't from full ambient (like the pool) to the nearly silent passages on either side.
If you ever need any ambience tracks, let me know (you know how to reach me), as I have tons and we're bound to find a few that would be just perfect. Some are still in WAV, but I did convert many to MP3 (not my favorite format), because storage of these was becoming a bit of a problem. I usually strip out Audio from much of my general travel footage, so we have things like traffic in Picadilly Square going L to R, R to L, busses, scooters, high-powered motorcycles, quiet parks, oars in a quiet lake, etc., etc. There are some amusement parks and fairs too.

  • Vote here for decreasing cold start time...

Please vote or add a comment here if you would like the option of preloading the JVM to decrease cold start times for applets and applications:
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6346341
    Thank you.
    Dennis Klotz

Pre-loading the JVM will increase the boot time of my
    machine.
Can't you think of a workaround yourself? If you have
your machine run a small Java application at boot
time, it will already load the JVM.The RFE states that this will be an "option".
So in your case you would never turn the option on....
But to answer your question, this isn't a single user running into a problem. If it was then your solution would make perfect sense. In our case we are talking about a product that goes out to customers and I need a solution that is a bit more professional. :)
    -Dennis

I have an iMac 5.1 with Mac OSX 10.6.8 and 2 GB memory and an L2 cache of 4 GB.   lately I have been receiving error messages of " start up disk almost full; please delete files." is the start up disk the same thing as the hard drive?  I opened the hard drive and from the column on the left of the menu I've selected "search for" and under that " all images" then "all documents"  I've deleted a few files from each. Are documents and images that I have deleted from here also deleted from the folders on my desktop?

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Delete any other mail in your Junk folders. Also, look through your Sent Mail to see if there is anything that can be deleted.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • When I load Safari on my IPAD2, the web page comes up, but I can't scroll down the page. No matter what web page I go to the content stays darker than the navigation bar. This just started today. All other applications work fine.

When I bring up Safari on my IPAD2, the web page comes up, but I can't scroll down the page. This just started today. No matter what web site I go to, the content is darker than the navigation pane.

If it's happening on all sites, then assuming that it's Safari that you're using, have you tried clearing it's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (other browsers should have similar options, possibly within the actual app instead of within Settings). You could also try closing the app completely : from the home screen double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app (or whichever browser you're using) to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If it's only happening on a particular site then there may be content on that site that isn't supported on the iPad e.g. flash, java, silverlight
