Please which is better to buy, a canon 5D mark III or a 7D?

Solved!

The additional detail helps a great deal. How much do you have invested in the APS-C format 550D? If you go the 5D Mark II route you'll have to replace any EF-S lenes to get a full frame image. But you know this already because you're a wedding and studio photographer.

    Hi RenattaMuniz,
It looks like the Canon 5D Mark III body only is currently selling for $3,399.99. I do have to agree with xl that you should contact stores in the Orlando area to see if they have this camera in stock. I do see that some stores in this district could have the camera in stock.

  • Which is better. . . a Canon Sure Shot or a Canon Power Shot?

I need to purchase a camera good enough to get good close-ups for items to sell on eBay.  Which is better...a Canon Sure Shot or a Canon Power Shot?

    Hi, leigh8389, thanks for posting!
If you're looking for a currently-produced digital camera, we would suggest purchasing a PowerShot camera.  You'll find that our PowerShots offer the very best in macro capability, color reproduction, portability, and convenience for digital editing and printing.
For your reference, our Sure Shot line of cameras operated exclusively on 35mm film rather than digital memory cards, and was produced from the mid 1990s-the mid 2000s.
Additionally, please feel free to check out our Canon Direct Sales store at shop.usa.canon.com, where you can explore Canon's latest Powershot models; we hope this helps!

  • I just bought the canon 5d mark iii and my photoshop elements 10 wont read my raw files. I want to buy photoshop elements 13...is this compatible with my new camera?

I just bought the canon 5d mark iii and my photoshop elements 10 won't read my raw files. I want to buy photoshop elements 13 but want to make sure my camera is compatible with it first. Thank you for your help!

Photoshop elements 10 should be able to open those files if you update to camera raw 6.7
Which operating system are you using?
    windows
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
    mac
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
Also, photoshop elements 13 will open those files as well.

  • Canon 5D Mark III support in CS6 PLEASE!

I own Lightroom but prefer Bridge/Camera Raw for small projects. Would love to see an update to support Canon 5D Mark III in Camera Raw! Thank You.

    Confusing?  You bet!
Just a bit worrisome, too...  One would expect a suite of products should be managed and coordinated as a cohesive unit - no matter how big the company, no matter what the history.  But what motivates an organization to release one part early, before related software is ready?  Then we see updates of that early release come out as beta versions (RCs) several times, so maybe it wasn't really ready...  A Marketing experiment?
Whatever happened to just continuing to work on software until it is ready, with commercial quality?  Set the engineers to optimizing the parts of it that are already feature-complete.  They love doing that!  Too much pressure from management to get early sales?  Why?  Is Adobe afraid of losing market share (to ???) so that they now push to release beta quality software early and in a disjointed way?
I have to say, some parts of Adobe's recent strategy - the public beta of Photoshop CS6, for example - seem very good indeed.  Folks are happy to test software clearly marked as "beta" and which doesn't cost them, and you get the added benefit of them really wanting the release when it comes out.  We can only hope the released Photoshop product is solid and bug-free as a result of sending the beta out to everyone.
Contrast that to releasing LR apparently too early, taking peoples' money, and having them essentially be paying beta testers.  The best Adobe can hope for is that people feel they got their money's worth.  The worst?  The appearance of lack of quality and lack of coordination.
I don't mean to step on any toes here (and I apologize if I have)...  I'm just providing one person's honest assessment of what things look like.

  • Upgraded Adobe LR 4.1, CS6 Beta & got the Canon 5D Mark III, WHEN is next dot release Camera Raw?

I Purchased the Upgraded Adobe LR 4.1, CS6 Beta & got the Canon 5D Mark III, Mac Pro server update to Lion, WHEN is next dot release Camera Raw? My workflow has trippled in time because of this issue. I'm so frustrated with having to convert images in a slowed up piece of crap canon software package and then wait another decade for the newest LR to load the images I could crap fire! Come on Adobe, where's the release? After a few grand you'd think we'd get a better response time. As for Canon, they are not consistant with community software sharing and can kiss my *!! because to leave Adobe hanging sux!
There should be new laws that penalize jerks that screw with workflow!
Time is money, let's go Adobe!

"so there are no Adobe staff here to see your rant."
Oh, they're here    and they see it...
    BTW this might help?

  • Does camera raw 7.0 support Canon 5d mark iii? on the list it said 6.7 and 7.1 which makes confused because 7.0 is in between.

Does camera raw 7.0 support Canon 5d mark iii? on the list it said 6.7 and 7.1 which makes confused because 7.0 is in between.

Which version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
If you have photoshop cs6 you should use Help>Updates to get the latest camera raw.
Camera raw 7.0 was just the shipping version of camera raw for photoshop cs6 and you should update it to a newer version.
The camera raw version on that list is just the oldest version of camera raw to support a particular camera and newer versions of camera raw carry on that support as well.

  • Canon 5d mark iii camera raw files with CS3

Hi, I recently bought a Canon 5d mark iii camera and am having difficulty viewing the raw files on my Mac. The Mac operating software is 10.5.8 and the mac doesnt have intel. Photoshop software is CS3. I have looked at various plug ins but am struggling to find one that will work. Is there no option to me other than buying a new laptop with the latest photoshop or is there a workaround?  Thanks in advance for your help, Mike

    Here's the bottom line:
You will never be able to open the image files from your Canon 5d mark III directly in CS3, because that camera model was first supported in Camera Raw 6.7 (which only works with CS5) and 7.1 which only works with CS6.
However, you can download the free Adobe DNG Converter 7.1 and convert your Canon raw files to raw DNGs that you can open with any version of ACR starting with ACR 2.4, which takes you all the way back to CS1.  Therefore, you'll be able to open them in CS3 with no problem.
Get the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter, it is a stand-alone application that is not tied to whatever version of Photoshop you happen to use.  The current version is 7.1 and there's also a beta version 7.2RC1.
Yes, if you can afford a Canon 5D Mark III, you can afford to upgrade from CS3 to CS6 for very little money ($199 for a perpetual license) if you act fast.  CS3 will be out of the upgrade loop in late December or so.
I'm one of the many to whom the prospect of buying into Adobe's subscription mode and end up paying the Adobe tribute every month for life seems nothing less than repulsive.
With that camera (a rich man's camera) is silly to be using a laptop (a beggar's machine).  Get a decent desktop Mac or PC already!

  • My lightroom wont upload my images from my canon 5D Mark III

Im not sure which firmware update to use to fix this. Any help please. Thanks.

That message is correct. Version 3.6 is the latest version of Lightroom 3 so there are no updates to that version.
However that's not the whole story. You need to pay to upgrade (not update) Lightroom to version 4 or 5.
The Canon 5D Mark III was first supported in Lightroom 4.1. That camera will never be supported in Lightroom 3.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
So you need at least version 4.1 but Adobe only sells version 5.
So your best bet is to pay to upgrade to Lightroom 5.7 so you can open 5D Mark III Raw files directly into Lightroom.
    FREE ALTERNATIVE
Or, you can download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all 5D Mark III Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNGs in Lightroom 3.6.

I cannot open RAW files from a Canon 5D Mark III in Photoshop CS5. I get an error saying "
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.

  • Canon 5D Mark III -- Lightroom 4.1 - Edit in Adobe Photoshop not working

Hello, I appoligize if this has already been answered, I couldn't find a solution.  I have the new Canon 5D Mark III, and I updated to Lightroom 4.1 so I can import the 5D3 RAW image into LR.  But when I go to "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5" or "Merge to HDR Pro in PhotoShop", PS starts, but it doesn't load any files. I was assuming this is because the PS Camera Raw is out of date. So I downloaded the cameraraw6-7_r1_win_030612, but when try to install it, I get "Some updates failed to install. Update is not applicable".
    What am I missing here?

    Hi Tim,
Please refer to the link below which says:
Set the camera to Print/PTP. Images don't import when the camera is set to PC Connect.

  • Problem with ACR 7 support of Canon 5D Mark III

Just purchased LR4 with ACR7 (upgrade from LR3.6 - not happy about that either, but I am mostly over it) and tried to import photos from my Canon 5D Mark III.  Import feature sees all the .CR2 files but when I try to import them it complains that it does not recognize that file format.  Not happy.

Unfortunately two important cameras, the Canon 5D.3 and the Nikon D800, came out during the transition between LR3/4 and PS-CS5/6 so Adobe released beta versions of LR and ACR to help tide people over, but what gets released when is kindof messy during the transition.
A major version release requires debugging and testing so the functionality, including new camera support, must be frozen earlier as compared to mid-version camera-support releases that have minimal coding changes.  ACR7-beta functionality was frozen back in February so has even less camera support than ACR6.7 beta, which confused PS-CS6-beta users as well.
Just so you’re aware, there is a bug when doing extreme adjustments in the new toning model and geometric lens-corrections have been applied, so be careful with that in the new LR4.1 RC2.   Eric Chan has said the bug will be fixed in the release version of LR 4.1.  The same bugs exist in the final ACR 6.7 that came out within the last week, so it is unclear what the status of a bugfix is for PS-CS5 users.
Here is a forum post with more information.  Also check out the other threads people refer to with other examples of the bug:

You are in partial metering mode, which is fine if you are shooting a plain white piece of paper. However most of the time I'd recommend either Evaluative instead, or if you are more accustomed to it, Center Weighted. Or use Spot Metering in some cases. Partial is sort of like a "Large Spot Metering" mode.
Evaluative has the advantage of putting extra emphasis on the area right around the active AF point, i.e. presumably around your subject. The rest of the image area is considered, too, but more weight is given to the active AF point. Center Weighted metering doesn't do this (it's sort of an "old fashioned" method of metering, but some people are accustomed to it from using older cameras.)
Do a Google search on Expose To The Right (ETTR), which is a common technique used by Canon shooters. Like hsbn mentioned above, I think Canon is a bit conservative about their metering, erring a little toward underexposure to "protect the highlights". This was a good practice back in the days of slide film, but is just the opposite of what you want to do with digital. To minimize noise in images, it's better to slightly overexpose and pull the exposure back down a little in post processing. Not a lot... just +1/3 to +2/3 stop. Here is a link to one of the better descriptions of ETTR I've seen. There are other tutorials and discussions about it other places online, so do a search if you wish.
Oh, and there was an exposure issue with the 5D III early on. The problem was a light leak near the top LCD, that would cause underexposure from additional light reaching the metering array in the viewfinder. Canon did a recall made some changes to fix the problem. Yours would have to be a very early production camera that was never fixed under the recall, to have this problem.  The problem would vary, depending upon how strong light was striking the top of the camera whle shooting. Outside on a bright sunny day would cause more error than shooting indoors in low light.
