Pleast help me decide if this would be worth the upgrade

Hey everyone. I'm thinking about possibly ordering a new Mac Pro. I'm wondering if the speed/performance increase would be worth it.
I currently have the 2008 24" iMac with 4GB's of Ram and the 2.4GHz processor. (I got it very soon after they resigned them to aluminum)
I'm looking at a new Mac Pro with the 2.66GHz Quad-Core processor, 6GB's of Ram and a 1TB HD, and I'd get the new 24" LED Cinema Display to go with it.
Obviously on paper it looks like a nice upgrade, but is it enough of a boost to justify the cost? I use my Mac now for some fairly extensive graphic/video work. I'm a pretty heavy user of Final Cut, Photoshop and iMovie. I do a LOT with photos, video, and media in general.
I should also add that I'd be selling my current iMac, and putting that money towards this one. I also have a Government discount that would save me around $320.
Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated!

Working in Final Cut, photoshop, and doing a lot of video in general, it seems like a no brainer to me. Moreover, I'm quite surprised that you choose an imac in the first place, when you're a "heavy user of Final Cut".
The 8-cores will do wonders for your video, plus a real performance gain will come from your ability to "stretch your arms and legs", coming from an imac:
(1) upgrade with way more ram
(2) install better graphics cards
(3) HD space for scratch disks / separate boot drive / data drive / backup drive
(4) ability to use multiple SSDs and/or stripe them together
(5) PCI slots for third party raid controllers for external enclosures
(6) and, oh yeah.. 8-cores will help too.

I think you should call via phone or perhaps take it to a phone store. I suggest taking your id, box packaging and other necessities such as the reciept of the phone being purchased.

If you're using a USB hub take it out of the loop. Plug directly in to a USB port on the system. If you are using a front mounted USB port, try one on the back instead. If this doesn't correct it, try shutting off any firewall and antivirus software and turn off User Access Control.

if you're not in a big rush - why not hold off until Adobe and Microsoft releases an update to support the Retina Screen.
Don't get me wrong - the Macbook Retina is a good and videos look great - but when it comes to Photoshop, it's a little blurry and the fonts in Excel and Word is pretty blurry too.....I own one....
In any event, if it's something you can live with - then by all means - go for it.....
Otherwise - get the non Retina Macbook Pro - it's cheaper, and it's user upgradeable in both RAM and Hard Drive.

Help before I throw this printer out of the window!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just purchased a Deskjet 2540 all in one printer - I will only ever need to print boarding passes etc. -
this looked so good on Amazon ideal for my iPad and said how easy to set up!!! In my dreams - I have now spent 10 hours
Trying to set this up and last night was close to cracking:-
I am setting this by wirless. I have the password and the printer showing on my iPad.
Each time I try and load the softwear I am told an unexpected error has occurred please try again later - I
Have tried and tried to no avail. Apple staff have said I do not need this softwear????????
The network test results say:-
1 check the printer network name ssid matches your wireless router network name ssid exactly!!!!!
2 if they do not match exactly, run the wireless setup from the printer software to configure your hp printer!!!!!
But no where can I find how to do this and sorry I really do not understand what this means.
Reading Amazon some people have set up in 15 min!!!!
The cost of bringing in an expert to set this up is worth more than the printer cost!!!!!!

I hope this reply finds you with the printer not thrown out of the Window. Regarding the Deskjet 2540 setup to work with the iPad, I would like to help.
There are two ways that you can print from the iPad to the 2540. The first, Wireless Direct. Wireless Direct is a network that the printer broadcasts and the iPad would connect to it. This method will leave the iPad with no other network access while connected.
Second, and more functional, is having the printer connected to the same network that the iPad is connected too.
In order to setup this connection, follow the steps outlined below;
Turn Wireless Direct on from the front panel button on the printer. (number 4).
Connect the iPad to the printer network, Settings> Network> HP-Print-2540.
Open Safari and type this I.P address into the address bar, 192.168.223.1 and hit Enter.
Go to Network or Wireless and then Wireless Setup Wizard.
Select your network and enter the needed information.
Once connected, the Wireless light should be solid, connect the iPad back to your network. To print, open a document, hit the Share button (), and if an option to print is available you will be able to select the print option.

If Apple is so full of geniuses, why can't they come up with a usb cable to connect the iPad to a printer? This would seem like the most intelligent first choice for those of us who are absolutely frustrated with iPad printing functionality.

My sister has an iPad and an HP printer. She cant' print from her iPad even though a genius at the Apple Store sold the combination to her with the idea that it would be easy to do. Instead, I have to go to her place with my MacBook, she sends me an email, and I hook up my laptop to her printer to print what she needs. Why can't the Apple geniuses come up with a USB cable and an OS update to make it easy and NOT SO FRUSTRATING to print from the iPad?
I've been a Mac user for fifteen years but I could not, in good conscience, recommend an iPad to anyone until Apple considers that ease of use does not include regularly getting frustrated with the easiest of tasks.

I need someone to help me out of this hole please for the love of God!

About a month ago water was spilled onto my MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo. This caused several keys on my keyboard to stick and several other keys to not function and all. To add insult to injury the DVD optical drive now works about one out of every 100 times. To drive the final nail through my brain I have been unable to locate my install disk one.
The problems stems from this.....at some point my admin password was needing to be input which it was. However not noticing the key sticking problem right away the password was somehow reset to a random number of stuck key inputs and punctuation marks. I now no longer have Admin access to my own computer.
The situation is getting desperate. Luckily I do not have to input the password on boot up but I can not add any new programs or upgrade any existing programs as I can not modify the applications folder....not being the admin and all.
I solved the keyboard problem by way of the apple mini bluetooth keyboard and just yesterday I purchased a USB external optical drive. However I have had any luck booting to the install disk (I have since borrowed a friends)
Last night I got close to resetting the password using target mode and another mac but it was sounding like I wasn't quite getting booted into single user mode as when I imput the standard seried of fsck -y and rm /-uaw and the rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone I ended up getting a promt that said something to the effect of override -rw-------uw/0 var/db/.applesetupdone? at which point I was being prompted for a yes or no which I input "Y" for yes and then it just returned and said permission denied.
Now I am back at the attempt again this morning and have another install disk. I can get to the Utilities meny and select any of the tools....."reset password" " or "system profiler" however pretty much every single utility tool I select "Quits unexpectedly" and I am asked to reset and relaunch but I can NOT get them to work.
I refer to Console and I see some error messages saying cryptic things such as....

Wow you guys are completely off base about how I am reacting, sorry....I mean now I'm a little upset because you have no idea how frustrating this is for me, I have said over and over how appreciative I am of everyone who has even replied. In reading and re-reading my last post I think it is pretty clear what my intent was with my comment, unless you practice at being a dick. All I was saying is that as the individual tidbits of information were streaming in, progress was being made but no resolution yet, which makes it appear like this is not going to be some easy fix, if all the advice coming in from people who have thousands and posts and obviously much more experience than I do and when that group is all out of ideas,,,,,,I am in deep doo doo. No I didn't mean it like I thought the entire forum was conspiring against me, just making an observation......sheesh lighten up. Just saying if guys were out of ideas I was probably out of luck, sorry to put quotations around the word "experts"....everyone on this board that has had any kind of an idea to try IS and EXPERT compared to me. I mean sorry pal but compared to how I actually feel and in reading my posts many times now, they are pretty complimentary. But again in re-reading these last two.....don't see a lot of advice in there. Anywhoooo..... I took it to the genius bar.....and VOILA they were able to reset my password.......my standard access password........standard as in now I can log in with a password but that is all I can do now I can't modify pretty much any folder. However I CAN now boot into single user mode as I was correct my thinking that the master password was preventing me from booting into single user mode....so I get the proper screen now when I boot to disk and I get the correct utility menu pulldown and run the reset password utility from there and now it doesn't keep quitting however when it should show the actual Hard Drive that I am wanting to apply the reset to....it never shows my hard drive OSX it only shows my Install DVD containing OSX. So anyway, sorry if the grinding of the teeth was beginning to leave dust in my posts I'll be careful not to recklessly "compliment" anymore

Please do note though, as George mentions, discussions about security feature circumventions, which include password hacks/etc, aren't allowed per the Community Rules.
Since you haven't purchased the machine yet, you should ask the seller if they will be removing any BIOS passwords (power-on, HDD, supervisor) prior to shipping the unit. If they can't, or won't, the best advice is to stay away from the machine altogether. All of that said, the seller claims that the machine is only being sold for parts. So you'll want to keep that in mind.

5.0 to 5.01 would you do the upgrade ?

I am running 5.0 on my iPhone 4s I dont have any problems with the phone apart from the occasional return to home screen when I am doing things, my battery life is also fine and not had any issues in that department since apple changed my phone the day after the release date.
What I do not want to do is upgrade to 5.01 and have problems, has anyone had problems since they have upgraded?

I haven't had any problems. That said, you may just want to hold off. I don't believe any functinality was added with 5.0.1.

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

Pleast help me decide if this would be worth the upgrade
