Plot symbol size

Is there a way to change the size of the plot symbols?
I would like to present 500 - 2,000 data points in a scatter plot. Without being able to reduce the default symbol size, the graphs just show large blobs of overlapping points. This remains true even after removing the bounding stroke of the symbol and selecting one of the more favorable symbol shapes such as "+".
Any workaround would be appreciated!

Thanks for your suggestion. As a result, I did provide feedback to the Numbers Feedback Team about this issue and also requested, more generally, additional features that would make Numbers more suitable for use with scientific data. I look forward to the day when I can work exclusively within Numbers and drop Excel and PowerPoint, at least for straightforward presentation material.

Certain special characters which display correctly in Explorer do not display correctly in Firefox. Example: <font COLOR="#1f1a17" FACE="Symbol" SIZE="3">¬</font>
    Is there a fix?

The symbol font usually doesn't work in Firefox, a website needs to use an Unicode replacement or an HTML entity to specify such a character.

  • How to stop symbol-content from changing size when symbol size changes?

When I change the size of a symbol, the content is also resized. I want my symbol to act as a viewport: when I make the symbol half as high, the content shouldn't be transformed, you only should see half of the content instead of transformed content. Make the symbol's boundaries act as a cropper, if you get what I mean. How do I do this?

    Hi Jack,
I think (not sure though) that the Library Item is causing the problem. I never use the Library Item because server side includes are far more efficient and need less maintenance.
    Have a look here http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/sprymenu/ssi.php
If you have PHP serverside scripting language, use DW to add serverside includes using PHP.
Getting back to your original problem, try without the Library Item and see if DW still changes the code.
    I hope this helps.

  • Symbols: size and efficiency

I have an MC in an animation that is a circle with a radial
gradient, roughly 200 x 200 pixels. At a later point in the
timeline, I'd like to have many of those objects moving around, but
each then only at a size of 10 x 10. (The effect is that I have
    zoomed back.)
Do I save anything, in terms of processing time while running
the .swf, by creating a new Symbol for the smaller versions? IOW,
each instance would not have to be scaled down, one at a time, if I
instantiate them from an already reduced-size Symbol.
(And thanks to all for current and past answers to my
    questions here.)

I don't want to customize them, I just want them to be a specific size and place to start with
right now they show up, either rolled up, in the upper left of my screen if I don't set the locationRelative parameter, or in the center of the screen, rolled up, if I set the locationRelative parameter

    Hey people,
i would like to change the size of a datapoint in my scatter plot created using JFreeChart.for example, i create a scatter plot with:

  • Why are the File Symbols of miniscule size?

If I control-click and select Show layout alternative (this may be an erronous retranslation from Swedish back to English: hope you can understand me anyhow) I find a screen for e g the Desktop showing various alternatives (Symbol size, space between symbols etc). Also Preview of symbols can be selected. If I select this option, the file symbols shrink to become almost invisible. I have not observed this behavior before. So I don't know what affects this change. Hope you can help me. I have made screen shots showing the difference. But I don't know how to attach them to this post.
    Best regards,
    Leif

Hello Myorse, Certainly screenshots would have helped. At this point, can suggest that you could try to use the 'slider' of the icon size to adjust the size. I tried to make this smallest on my computer and it reduced to size 16x16, which is small but not 'almost invisible' as you say. Try to move the slider and see if they spring back to visible size.
If that does not help, you might have to trash your preferences file.

  • Data Point Symbol in Line Graph  - can you change the size?

I would like to change the Data Point Symbols in line graphs - if not the actual symbol it would be wonderful to be able to change the size of the symbols provided.
At present, if there is a lot of data in the graph, the symbols are too big and crowd one another.
I know that one can reduce the line size but that doesn't change the symbol size.
    Help please.

If I understand your question, this from the Pages online help may give the answer:
To mark line, area, and scatter charts with data point symbols:
Select the entire chart. You can also select the chart series (the line or area shape) that you want to mark with data point symbols.
Click Inspector in the toolbar, and then click the Chart Inspector button.
Click Series (except for scatter charts).
Choose a symbol from the Data Point Symbol pop-up menu.
Choose one of the following options from the Symbol Fill pop-up menu:
To fill the symbol with the same color as its outline, choose Use Stroke Color.
To fill the symbol with a solid color, choose Color Fill, click the Fill color well, and pick a color.
To fill the symbol with a gradient, choose Gradient Fill and use the gradient controls to set the colors and change the angle of the gradient.
To fill the symbol with an image, choose Image Fill and select the image you want. You can also resize the image by choosing an option from the pop-up menu above the Choose button.
To fill the symbol with a tinted image, choose Tinted Image Fill and select the image you want. Click the color well to the right of the Choose button to change the tint color. You can also resize the image by choosing an option from the pop-up menu above the Choose button.

  • Delete plot definitions from chart

Hi all. I'm struggling with a chart to which I programmatically add and
remove plots. When I wire an empty array to the Value property it
clears the plot, as expected, but each of the plot definitions still
remains. This can be seen by simply inspecting the legend, snapshot
below. How can I remove these definitions?
I've read that this is supposed to be a good thing, but it's not
for me. I programmatically enlarge and shrink the legend to show the
number of plots, so as the user clicks "Add Data to Plot" the legend
size increases. This works fine, but once the legend reaches ten elements deep, I turn on the vertical scroll bar and keep the legend size constant. But the vertical scroll bar allows the user to see
all previously defined (yet empty) plots, which looks terrible! Below
are three more snapshots, showing 4 defined plots, 9 defined plots and
13 defined plots. You can see that in the third snapshot where only the
first 10 are in the legend and the scrollbar is on, the user will be able to see
lots more previously defined plot entries by scrolling down. How
can I programmatically remove these definitions?

Thanks for the input Mike, but this hasn't worked for me
See the snapshot - the Visible flag has simply made the plot symbol in the legend invisible, but it's still defined. You can see from here that I've added up to "test 14" in the plot, but there any many more in the legend. Right down to 27 if I scroll all the way. I really do need these to be erased. Is there really no way to un-define them at all?

  • Reducing PDF-size: automatic reduction of datapoints that are used to draw lines in a 2d-axis system within report

Creating fancy pdf-files for costumers and other purposes is great. However, if the experimental data include many datapoints (>200000) a line-2d-graph ends up in a very big pdf-file. Especially when many pages need to be used.
    Explanation:
When I use lines to show experimental data in 2d-plots the size of my PDF-file is directly influenced by the number of datapoints used. The more datapoints are used to draw lines within the graph, the bigger the exported PDF-files of the report are.
It would be great to limit the number of points used to draw a line as it can be done with markers without using the curve transformation option. - Hence, e.g. plotting a line with the help of 200 datapoints is usually as good as showing the same line based on 200000 datapoints but the pdf-size is significantly reduced. You can imagine that when this would be done via the transformation option a long lasting script would be needed for each line to reduce the number of datapoints shown. Hence, the plotting within the report and the actualisation of data would need very long.

Since a while DIAdem optimizes the size of exported PDF-files in a related way as it is suggested here. In principle the PDF-file is exported in a very high resolution, so you can display it in a reader with a very high zoom value (e. g. 6000 %) to look into details of your data. If you have a huge dataset, this could lead in fact to a bigger file size, if data points could be displayed because the high PDF-resolution. But in general, DIAdem only saves information in a PDF-file which is really necessary - but with a high resolution.

  • Best way to programatically re-size graphs?

I have a window that pops up, containing X-Y graphs, that are say, 600 pixels wide.
Under some circumstances, I want to reduce this to say, 400 pixels, and uncover a cluster of numeric displays occupying the other space.
I would like to set the BOUNDS.WIDTH of the graph so that it extends right up to the POSITION.LEFT of the cluster.
But I can't adjust the BOUNDS.WIDTH of the graph itself (that property is read-only).
I can adjust the PLOT AREA.SIZE.WIDTH of the graph, which will affect the BOUNDS.WIDTH.
But I can't use that for calculations, because I don't know the margin between the plot area and the graph bounds.
I want it to work when the user re-sizes the window (All objects are scaled when window re-siz
es). He may resize the window, close it, open it again and the size remains as he left it. That means I can't use absolute pixel values to move things around.
I have thought of using decorations: a hidden rectangle that's the size of the small plot area, and another one that's the size of the large plot area. Then set the plot area's SIZE.WIDTH to the width of the small or large decoration. They decorations would scale along with everything else, and all would be OK.
1... Does anyone have a better / different idea?
2... If not, how should I get the reference to the decorations? They can't be named. Using the VI reference, I would have to pick out decorations #3 and #4 or something (there are other decorations already present). That just seems a bit fragile. How can I move these new ones to be #0, and #1 ??

    Hi,
    Here's what I've used to do this;
    1) Get the DesiredSize (bottom-top, right-left). The origin can be set, so
    that should be easy...
    2) Calculate the "Bounds" - DesiredSize.
    3) Add the "PlotAreaSize" to the result.
    4) Put it in the "PlotAreaSize".
The quoted names are property values of the graph. Just a tip: put it all in
a subvi that uses a refernce to the control.
The logic behind this is that the difference between the total bounds, and
    the plot area is constant.

    Wiebe.

  • Plot area width changes as the precision changes !?

need help to understand following thing:
If I increase the precision of a graph manually, the plot area size decreases and vice versa.
Otherwise there is an example posted demonstrating prcision change by property node which does not change plot area size.
I've attached an example to demonstrate both.
What I want is to change the precision manually with the default graph tools without decrease or increase plot area width.
Is this possible in LV 6.02 ?

    Hi.
Resizing of the graph is the default behavior. The Graph resizes in LabVIEW 7 in both cases. I woud suggest building a text indicator with a transparent background and reading the properties of the graph to display the correct values to the side. This should give the desired response.

I can't get this new version to accept a 24 x 36 arch D page. I've always used reader for pdf files to plot here at work, but since the new download, its not performing at all.

Just so everyone knows, I un-installed reader 10 and re-installed 9.2 and my plotter is back working perfectly. there must be something in the newest version that make plotting a problem, maybe not printing with normal size paper.

  • [SOLVED] Arch has pacman -Qkk "Size mismatch" for files in /usr !

    Hello!
With following command I was checking on files that differ from it's original versions in mtree:
    pacman -Qlkk 2>/tmp/pacman_size_mismatch 1>/dev/null; cat /tmp/pacman_size_mismatch | grep "Size mismatch" | grep -v /etc/
Files in /usr look suspicious, because /usr should only have read-only data (according to wiki):
    warning: linux: /usr/lib/modules/3.12.7-2-ARCH/modules.alias (Size mismatch)
    warning: linux: /usr/lib/modules/3.12.7-2-ARCH/modules.alias.bin (Size mismatch)

    warning: linux: /usr/lib/modules/3.12.7-2-ARCH/modules.symbols.bin (Size mismatch)
I have checked other machine and reinstalled linux package, but it seems like it's default behaviour.
Is there any explanation on that? Is this some error?

Just so you know, you don't need the 'l' in -Qlkk.  Just -Qkk will yield the same results.  If you use -Qlkk, pacman will first list all the files in every single package first, then give you the -Qkk results.

  • How to structure several scenes (in symbols) on the main stage

I have this main scene with four buttons, each will call a different composition.
These compositions will be loaded  with Edge Commons's composition Loader inside Symbols ( I call it content) created with createChildSymbols.
That works. But I seem to be missing the right size relationship in between the Symbols size and the compostions it will received. It seems somehow smaller.
The wrapper Main Composition adaptes itself to the size of the display. But the compostition loades does not adapt, or worst. It does... sometimes....
    I just don't understand...

Thank you to your tipp so I try to organize my scenes into compositions. I can successfully load a composition (scene2) into the main container :
    EC.loadComposition("scene2.html", sym.getSymbol("mainContainer"));
Now I'm facing another situation. At the end of the loaded composition scene2 is a "Next Scene" button suppose to load scene3.html composition into the main container. "Next Scene" is a nested button inside the loaded composition screen2 symbol. How do I load the next compostion from the current one? This code for On Click of course does not work:
    EC.loadComposition("scene3.html", sym.getSymbol("mainContainer"));
I think the refer to the mainContainer is wrong. Is it just a targeting issue or is it the wrong approach in general?

  • Merge instances of a same symbol

    Hello,
I'd like to know is there a script which could merge multiple instances of a same symbol? I'm using some of those JET scripts for replacing some objects with a symbol but when the replacement process is finished, script actually creates multiple instances of the same symbol. I'm trying to edit those symbols using symbol sizer, shifer, spinner etc. but seems those tools can hardly affect multiple instances of a same symbol so I though merging them might solve this issue. If anyone knows some other way to get this done please help. Thanks.

You really need to read about strings and arrays. This is a fundamental knowledge without which one cannot really do anything advanced.
    http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/Array.html
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/String.html
To split a string into Array you just use, well, split() method:
    var string:String = "FOOBAR";
var array:Array = string.split(""); - this is an array of characters.
