Plotting in OSX
I am trying to connect a HP design jet 455ca plotter with a jet direct box over ethernet. OSX doesn't allow me to use plottter the same as OS9. I have tried to set up as printer and was able to create a PDF file but not making connection to plotter. How do I find the IP address for the plotter?
I was opperating the plotter in classic on G3 but new intel iMac will not work.
Another issue, can not find how to print in black and white. Boxes that were once there now are gone. Not only that I have a color printer that still prints in color from the G3 but is gray scale from the iMac even when the color box is selected.
When you say "doesn't allow me to use it the same as on OS 9," I guess you understand that the driver you use wasn't provided by HP? I think you need to talk to HP about supporting their plotter...

OSX 10.4.8 plot against firewire? Bad experiences
Is it me or there is a problem with FW external drives and MACOSX 10.4.8?
I have been using external firewire drives for some time, my oldest FW HD dates back to 2002 or 2001 and the newest is a two-week old HD. Never had a problem using several desktops and laptops until this last summer. It may be a mere coincidence but my problems started right after I upgraded to 10.4.8.
(1) In August, my oldest FW HD (Maxtor 160Gb) failed to mount on a PowerPC G4 minitower, one day later the PPC HD also failed. I recovered the data (thanks to DiskWarrior) from the PPC and dumped it all in a new external FW/USB HD (FW 400/800) connected to a powerbook. I installed a new HD in the PPC. Still could not access the external FW.
(2) Story 2. Early September, the external FW (LaCie 150Gb Seagate) connected to my home 15" powerbook G4 failed to mount.
(3) Story 3. Two weeks ago I bought a portable FW/USB LaCie for my 12" powerbook G4. A week later the HD failed to mount. I didn't try to fix it, I exchanged it for a new one.
(4) I removed from its case the external maxtor FW I mention in (1) and put it into an old PowerPC and started the computer as a firewire, so far so good. I connected that computer to the firwire port of my 12" powerbook mentioned in (3). It was a scary at the connection moment, the firewire port of the two computers were fried. The laptop went blank and turned itself off. Boy, it did smell, but the powerbook after awhile restarted. I ended up with a laptop and a minitower with unusable firewire ports. I put back the regular HD for the minitower and it runs fine but does not have firewire ports. My powerbook has only the USB2.0 ports available.
(5) My teenager nephew came home and told me that the ports in the external drives were fried (smell stays after a few weeks, he says) and gave a solution (nephew is a computer engineering major). I went to the electronics store and bought a firewire/USB case ($60USD). I plugged in the external Maxtor HD and it mounted fine on the USB ports of the three computers I described above, all data was there, nothing lost. I transferred the data to the internal disk of the PPC. Then I moved on to the LaCie mentioned on (2), same thing, removed it from the original case, put in the new case and the drive was there, mounts fine, all the data is there, I copied to the PPC and kept this one as a backup.
Anyways, problems with 3 firewire HDs and two fried FW computer ports makes me think that either is my bad luck or there is a problem with firewire and macosx 10.4.8 or older hardware systems.
By the way, I called several data recovery companies and they wanted between $600 and $3000 USD to recover the data. Since the HDs were backups I took the risk of doing all this by myself.
Any experiences out there? Solutions?
EAWhat version you use, is that the last version 1.7.4:
http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers&k=driver&s=2&p=3dd58569d8828 cee4e812013e47dbb55&o=36
Also try to use their power adapter (even it said it is fire wire bus powered), for it might be not enough power to fire the box out from the cold.

How can i relocate R^2 and equation values in scatter plot?
hey, i used Numbers to crate scatter plot and findig trendline and R^2 values.
the problem is that numbers automaticly put the values in the left side of the plot, and i couldnt find a way to edit their location.
there is a way to do that?
btw i usees the last version with OSX 10.9.I do not see how to move these either. Looks like intent is that the user NOT be able to move as there is a formatter for the R^2 value and the equation when they are selected.

X and Y Data in scatter plot are different fields but can not be ??
When making a scatter plot with numbers you can select the X data in the series bar (X Value) then click tick then select the y data.
If I do this the initially entered X data becomes the Y data, if you do it vice-versa, the latter entry of y data becomes the X data.
I called up apple support for this issue and after explaining the a technical supervisor in their numbers section what a scatter plot was they said they’d put the issue in my file. Can someone fix this ……. ?
You need to be able to enter a number of different X, Y series of data where X is one column or a portion of that column and Y is a an identical number of rows to each x value but in a different column.
If apple’s wondering why this program’s not professionally used they might what to actually use it before releasing it.Rubin,
OK, you're using OSX Mavericks 10.9, and Numbers 3.0.1. It would be a good idea to update your profile to show the proper operating system version.
I think you are saying that you cant' add X-Y pairs to the chart as a new series. Apple has switched the default. Scatter Charts used to default to adding pairs of columns representing new X-Y pairs, but now it defaults to the mode called Share X-Axis values, so it thinks you are adding 2 new sets of Y-values sharing the first column of x-values.
The switch for this is in the lower left corner of the Numbers window. This control used to be in the upper left of the chart range indicator in the source table, but they moved it. Click on the "Plot Columns as Series" button to reveal the menu. Then un-check Share X Values.

Hello,
I am trying to make a chart from data I have collected for a biology project. I have inserted all the data into the table and have selected it all and chosen a line graph to plot the data When the chart appears however, the only data that is recorded is the dates on the x-axis, no points are plotted in the chart area of the graph.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thank you for the help,
ShannonShan,
What version of Numbers are you using? And, are you really using OSX 10.6.4? When things don't work properly the first thing to check is whether everything is up to date. Run Software Update.

Any engineering students here? Question about data plotting
I was just wondering how you guys plot your data for work. I use Origin in XP all the time, but in OSx i haven't found a good counterpart yet. I need something that can produce plots which i can paste & reopen in MS word documents. I know Excel can do the job to some extent, but I'm looking for something closer to Origin.
Sorry, I just realized that I probably shouldn't have posted this in the Macbook forum. But, any input will still be appreciated.I have to add another voice for Igor Pro. For 2D plotting it's superior to Matlab and it also provides quite a bit of analysis capability (though it is not as capable as Matlab in this area). The program is x-platform and you can easily exchange plots and data between Mac and PC versions of the program. I don't anything about Origin so I don't know if there are filters that can allow direct import/export to Igor Pro.
When presented with data in my job I approach it this way:
Tabular data in Excel because of the Pivot Tables and Data Filters. These are very nice tools for large tabular datasets.
Time-series experimental data in Igor Pro for plotting, exploration, presentation and some analysis. It's easy to write a small programs in Igor Pro that allow customized data exploration. It's actually easier than doing it in Matlab because of the way you can add multiple axes to plots. And this is where I always do plot prep for publication.
Frequency data or time-series experimental data in Matlab when I need specific Matlab toolboxes (e.g. control system, signal processing, system identification, etc.) Heavy-duty analysis is easier in Matlab -- if you own the toolboxes!
Although you can do data reduction in either Matlab or Igor Pro (and I've done it in both of them) you're probably better off writing your own data reduction if the datasets get really big (e.g. 100's of MB or GB's per data set).
The best part is that all 3 of these programs are cross-platform and I frequently move data and analysis programs between PC's and Macs. None of these tools, however, are professional-grade for statistical analysis. For that you still want SAS or SPSS or even R if your head works that way. -
Bluetooth Mouse X7500 on MAC OSX
I bought an X7500 bluetooth mouse for my Mac. There is a MAC logo on the box, but I am not able to find the driver for MAC anywhere. (OSX 10.9.4).
The mouse has been paired to the lap-top, and functions very well, as it is decently sized. The left and right buttons are good, and the scroll-wheel scrolls with two speeds. I may also push the wheel to move the page around.
The scroll-wheel may be tilted left and right, and I assume that this is supposed to cause the current object moving left/right but nothing happens. I also assume that the two buttons on the top left-hand side are for back and forward. When I push one of them, it has the same action as pushing the scroll-wheel.
Is there a driver for this mouse somewhere?I use a Logitech MX900 Bluetooth mouse with my PowerBook and for the most part it works fine. There are times when it just loses the plot and behaves like yours. I don't think it is a case of insufficient bandwith as Michael suspects but more a problem with intereference. I do notice that when there is a high use of my Airport connection the erratic behaviour is more prevalent.
If you use both Airprt ans Bluetooth concurrently you might want to switch off Airport off to see if your mouse goes any better.
Either way though you will find that a wireless USB mouse to perform better under most, if not all, situations. -
PDF plot from OS X, then sent to iPhone/iPad - error
Hi!
This is a tricky one. I am not sure if this belongs here or in iOS support, but I guess it is a OSX issue.
You can read an initial thread in this Autodesk forum, from where I jumped here looking for help.
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-for-Mac-General/Plotting-to-pdf-hides-some -layers-on-iPhone-iPad/m-p/4979434/highlight/false
The thing is whenever I plot an Autocad 2014 drawing to pdf, all the lines with a width smaller than 0.05mm disappear when viewing the pdf on an iPhone or iPad.
The pdf is displayed correctly on my Macbook Pro and on Windows computers. It is also printed correctly from my laptop. If the whole plot to pdf process is done on a windows computer, when you view the pdf on an iPhone there is no such issue. That's why I guess it is a OSX issue.
I have not tried any other software that produces cad or vector drawings that can produce the same effect, but this is a ver annoying issue because I have to use a different computer when I need to send drawings via email, just in case they are opened on an iDevice. I have not tried mobile devices other than iPhone or iPad, eitherI traced the problem to what I believe was a setting on my router (Cisco 4200N). There is some BS setting for:
WMM Support
Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) is a wireless Quality of Service feature that improves quality for audio, video, and voice applications by prioritizing wireless traffic.
I disabled this and so far things have been working 100%. I will update if things change. Its only been working for a slid day so far. But before I changed this setting, I couldn't even get it to work after establishing a WIRED connection first. So this is very promising.
I hope anyone having this problem with a 4200N router comes across this thread and I save them some time. -
Today I started my program (photoshop CS2 9.0.2) and opened a JPG file. When I went to print the file the program crashed and closed. When I restarted the program and went to open the file I got this error message, "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
I have tried several different file types/sizes and all result in the same error message since the program crashed. It will not open any file I try to open. As I indicated above I am using Photoshop CS2 9.0.2 it is on a MAC with OSX 10.4.11.
I called Adobe and the Rep directed me to Tech Note 331307 and told me to Re-create the Photoshop preferences files. Which I did and restarted the program, but when I tried to open a file (any file) I still get the same error message so it doesn't appear to be the preferences.
Does anyone have any info as to what the problem may be and how to correct it.
ThanksThanks for the response. OK... This is the first day I have been able to get back to the problem.
My system I am running Photoshop on is a Power Mac G4, AGP Graphics ATY Rage 128Pro chip set 16MB VRAM LCD 1280x1024 32-bit color, 500MHz, 1.75GB of memory, 1 MB L2 Cache, 100 MHz Bus Speed. I had installed the latest security update and repaired the permissions the day the problem started.
Now to day I started the system and went in and created a Guest Account. I logged into the guest account and started Photoshop. Low and behold it worked just fine. So I logged out of guest and logged into my main user account And started Photoshop. Wouldn't you know it.... It works just fine. I can open any file I want with now problems.
I got to thinking after I had done all of this that I wished I had tried to open a file in Photoshop today prior to creating the guest account to see if it still had the problem in my main user account.
I did not change anything else on the system and all seems to work fine now. So at his point I am really not sure what the problem was.
Again thanks for taking the time to respond to this issue. -
Download error in (osx) adobe desktop app (corrupted download link).
Here is a discription of the problem. Please consider that some of the wording might not be correct, as I do have to translate the error message from German into English.
Using OSX 10.9.2, when clicking inside the adobe desktop app (top of the screen bar) on the tap "apps", the following screen (screenshot) appears, which states, translated from top to bottom:
download error
download error. Please contact support.
(link) contact support
(link/button) download creative cloud -> This button unfortunatly leads to the following error page "http://www.adobe.com/special/errorpages/404.html"
All apps, like Bridge, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. are installed and work just fine. So no problem here. I seem however unable to redownload the desktop app (in order to reinstall). As stated above the provided link inside the desktop app itself is coruppted and within the (online) web-based download centre (user logged in) I am only adviced to use the desktop app. This is a dead end and I do not know what to make of this error, let alone solving it. Please help!I am sorry Romsinha but this doesn't really help.
I already restarted the desktop app and while I am obviously online and connected the problem (error message) remains the same. Information within the "home" tap is recieved/loaded (little blue spinning wheel) stating that various apps recently have been updated. Yet the same loading wheel within the "apps" tap results in an error. My best guess is that some internal link within the app is corrupted, leading to a source on a server that can not be reached.
UPDATE
I clean uninstalled adobe creative cloud as discribed in the article you provided (using the cleaner tool) and even uninstalled the browser plugin. After downloading and reinstalling creative cloud the problem however remains the same. "Apps" tap still shows the same problem. "Home" tap now displays the following: -
We used the Adobe Creative Suite for a long time in a situation where users login through on open directory osx server.
It worked fine until we started to use Adobe Creative Cloud. We use the Enterprise version.
Computers are very slow now, especially Indesign crashes a lot and can sometimes not even be opened anymore.
Has anybody experienced the same problems?
Regards,
MartinMartin,
Have you made any progress on this issue or found out anymore about running CC in a server environment? I am researching the same thing now and can't find straight answers.
Thanks,

Intel iMac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8
I logon to bank via its internet portal and next screen takes up all 27" display.
Can this be controlled in any way or do I just put up with it, it is really annoying.Thank you for your response. Whew...i omitted to say I use Firefox... tried to logon using Safari... same
result Installed Chrome ...same thing Installed Opera... this browser actually has in its Preferences menu
the capacity to set JavaScript Options under the Conent submenu... DISALLOWED all of resizing of windows,
moving of windows and ability of script to hide menu bar ... this fixes the screen to available browser size...
so my issue has at least this resolution. Thank you Flet Cheryl -
Mail app deleted and reinstall wont open, says not compatible with OSX
i accindetally deleted my mail app and emptied the trash, when I tried to reinstall from the startup disk, it installs but wont open, saying that the version of mail is not compatible with the version of OSX (10.5.8)
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
There is no downloadable version of Mail.app - it comes with the operating system i.e. on your install disks. -
Previously I was using OSX 10.8 and Web Disk was working great.
Since I upgraded to OSX 10.9 Web Disk Dont Attach to my compputer and give me this ERROR:
FInder got an error: Network file permission error.
When I got this ERROR first time I searched GOOGLE and found this link: http://cammodude.blogspot.no/
And I did:
To force all connections to be SMB1:
Open A terminal window
paste in the following line followed by the return key(should be all on one line):
echo "[default]" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf; echo "smb_neg=smb1_only" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf
What the command does:
Creates a file called nsmb.conf in your home directory at the path ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf.
Adds directives to force SMB connections to use the SMB1 protocol. This is slower but stable.
Then I could use Web Disk on OSX 10.9 after executing this command in Terminal.
But now I restarted my Macbook and now Im NOT able to connect to Web Disk and get the same ERROR.
FInder got an error: Network file permission error
After trying 100 times it attaches 1 time but then show this ERROR:
Can't get <<class cdis>> "my.server.com/2078" of application "Finder".
If this happen then I can see the files in Finder and see the Contents and Size of files but if I open a PHP file in BBEdit then it shows BLANK.. But actually it is NOT blank.
Now Im stuck How can I solve this? All help is highly appericated..
Thank you so much...Hi,
Make sure to chmod the app, something like this :
chmod -Rf 777 secure_site_WebDisk.app
(in my case the CPanel provided the app for my OSx version.) -
