Pls help. 2nd post - Ipod will only synch 1/4 of the songs

Hi:
Have a 5th gen ipod. recently backed up my dell computer and wiped it clean and reinstalled the os. moved itunes back over. all music and videos are there on the computer itunes. Ipod will not synch it all. tried checking alll the boxes, etc. only synchs 1/4 of the music and none of the videos. pls help.

Yeah, same thing happened with mine, but only just recently....I used to be able to put 1000+ songs on mine, and now (suddenly) just 500.
Makes me think all these iTunes "updates' are taking up room that I don't want it to be taking...

  • TS2776 why does my computer give me a cant find files notice when syncing my ipod? only about 1/2 of the songs transfer to computer out of the ipod. and the file must be on the ipod because i can play the song on it. i want to transfer all songs to my ipa

why can't i transfer all songs on my ipod to my computer and then to my new ipad? i keep getting a message saying that about half of the files couldn't be found, and only about 1/2 of the songs went to the ipad when i first synced. the files must be on the ipod, because i can play all 448 from the ipod when disconnected from the computer. and all songs show up on my devices at itunes and can be played on the computer. but only about 1/2 are going to the ipad. i am no tech genius, obviously, but could someone please help me? thanks

Apple does not support transferring files from the device to the computer if they are third party.  It is great that you were able to transfer the ones you did.  There is a way to do it but it sounds like you already did it because if not half of them would not come over.  The files can probably not be found because they are third party and the files are not compatible with the transfer process.

  • I have a 2nd generation iPod that only displays an image of the cord, and an arrow to connect to iTunes. I've done this and it says it needs to be restored. Tried that but I get an error: 1611.  Any suggestions?

I have a 2nd generation iPod that won't do anything but display the Apple logo for a brief second then an image of the cord suggesting it should be connected to iTunes. I tried to restore it via iTunes but I get an Error: 1611. It does nothing else.  I tried turning off using both buttons...nothing. Any suggestions?

Error 1611: This error may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Alsoattempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0) can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured proxy or security software, such as FoxyProxy, can cause error 1611. To troubleshoot third-party security software, follow these steps.

  • Ipod can only sync about 10th of the songs and then encounter unknown error

A bit of a back story:
So the problem started when my ipod classic 160gb started going funny on me, jumping songs and skipping others when i used it. so i decided to restore it. however, since then whenever i try and sync songs back into it, it will freeze- every time on a different song- and say that it could not sync the songs, giving a variety of different issues and errors:
"Itunes could not sync (name of song) to the ipod (ipod name) because the file cannot be read or written". alternatively, "...because an unknown error has occured (-50)".
"windows was unable to save all the dad for the file F:, the data has been lost. this error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. please try to save this file elsewhere"
and "The specified I/O operation on \Device\harddisk1\DR9\ was not completed before the time out period expired.",
"The Ipod (name of ipod) could not be synced. a duplicate filename was specified" and a few other varieties of these messages
I tried resetting the ipod, using different usb ports and plugs, restoring the ipod several times and reinstalling itunes but non helped..
    I tried this solution:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539 and the error-checking tool for windows
    but also of no help
I then tried to add songs manually in chunks of about 100 and it worked until about 750 songs ish (out of 3,000), and then whatever song you try to add doesnt work....
I also tried to add photos and movies but it looks like its all a matter of size, as in if any more then the music equvelent of movies or videos will be uploaded it wont work but any less it would
    any ideas?

I also used the diagnostic mode to check the hard disc situations, as explained here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2623917&tstart=0
    and got the folllowing results:
    retracts:1
    reallocs: 5704
    pending sectors: 576
    powerOn hours: 55
    Start/Stops: 3976
    temp current: 25C
    Temp Min: 13C
    Temp Max: 53C
so i think that means the hard drive is stuffed, which may explain the issue
is there anything i can still do?

  • How do I include my share library in my itunes library. My Ipod is only synching what's in the ipod library and not the shared library

    question as above.
    thanks.

First, restore the itunes library of the backup of the old drive to the new drive.  That will restore your music.
Now, here's one thing to try (I have iTM but haven't gone from icloud down to a new mac), with iTunes Match, you could try using a new itunes library (assuming you lost the old one and have no backup), set up iTM as you did before, and see if the cloud data will come down to the new drive/computer.
If that doesn't work, there are applications/apps that can connect a device to a mac (I assume also a pc) and let you transfer files to the computer.  As I recall, iFile may be one of them - look at the itunes app store.  There may be programs that run on the computer that can suck files from device to computer.  Google around for more info.

  • Ipod will only mount through USB

could anyone please tell me why my ipod will only mount and update with the USB cable, and not the firewire as it used to. it won't mount on the desktop or the new laptop (c/w Tiger) this way but seems fine through USB. Is using the USB a one way road?

... not sure. I have had trouble before. Turned out to be a "bad" firewire port. Others have reported that switching Firewire cables helped.
We can either try to figure it out ... or we could suggest uyou just reset everything. The latter is often easier.
This is in order of difficulty, I think:
    1. Reset several times - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
    2. Check the iPod directory - with your ipod disconnected, open iTunes and set the iPod preference tab to Manual. Quit iTunes, connect your iPod, and if iTunes opens, quit it again. Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities folder). iPod should show up in list of drives on the left. Select the iPod and click "Repair".
    3. Delete the iPodDriver.kext file:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61937
    4. Since you have a back-up of your music, open Updater and Restore your iPod - this will reformat it so your music (on the iPod) will be lost. It will be replaced when you resync it with iTunes.
    5. Reset your USB and Firewire ports - you might run a check to see if you get the same behavior using a different port. To reset the ports, go here:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?7@@.68bb75ef/0
One of those should do it.

  • My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock.

My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock, only through the iPod's internal speaker. Help please!

Have you tried resetting both the iPod and dock? To reset the iPod, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
To reset the dock, unplug it and plug it back in.

  • My IPod   will only  play the same song in the playlist. What is  happening?

My Ipod  will only play one song (over and over) in  a play list. It was workig fine and then  all of a sudden it continues to repeat. Please  help.
    Rita

Go to settings on the ipod itself and make sure on the option Repeat, it doesn't say "One". If it does, click on it until it's says "All" or "Off" - depending on what you prefer. If it isn't on repeat, reset it -if you haven't already; but that's usually everyone's first instinct when there's a problem so I assume you already have. If none of this works, you may have to restore it. If restoring it is something you want to leave as an absolute last resort, go to an apple store or something and ask a professional.
    Hope this helps

  • IPod will only play songs from one album

  • My ipod will only work in disc mode

My iPod will only work in disc mode, when i take it off of disc mode it appears with the apple sign but nothing else -
    help please.

Yes a Restore will erase your iPod. But this shouldn't be an issue since you obviously must have your music in your iTunes library or backed up somewhere else, RIGHT????? After all, it would be silly to have all your music on just the iPod and no where else, RIGHT?

  • HT4623 my 2nd. generation ipod will not update the software from 2.2 to 4

my 2nd. geration ipod will not update the software from 2.2 to 4 or 6.

Are you sure you have a 2G? A 1G can only go to 2.1 via iTunes but a 1G can go as high as 3.1.3 that you get here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
    Identifying iPod models
To If you do have a 2G that can go to 4.2.1 by:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
For 4.2.1 you need iTunes version 10.X and that requires OSX 105.8 or later.
If you have 10.4.11 you can only go to iOS 4.1 since that OSX can on go to iTunes 9.X

  • 2nd Gen iPod will not charge in Windows 7 machine.

My 2nd Gen ipod will sync to iTunes just fine, but will not charge.  Windows 7 shows a problem (yellow triangle) in Devices.  I've got the latest Windows Updates, iTunes version, and iPod update.  It works fine with our Windows Vista machines, just not my newer Win 7 laptop.  What is going on?

Is the iPod being plugged into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the Win 7 machine?  Are there any other USB devices plugged into the Win 7 machine? If so, remove them, reboot the machine and reconnect the Shuffle.

2nd gen iPod touch only displays start-up apple icon, and is not recognized by iTunes - what to do?

Thanks, but I've checked those articles out already. I drained the battery and finally got the needs charge (battery w/red line + arrow pointing to a charging bolt), I plugged the USB into the laptop and held down the start key +home key until I saw the apple logo. However, it still was not recognized by itunes. It's been plugged in for over an hour now and the screen is cycling apple logo/low battery (battery w/red line)/and black screen.
