Pls Help_Battery Unrecognized by my MacBook

have MacBook 2 purchased May 11, 2007. Since i started using it, the battery never completed its charging to 100% (or full scale), it never did. The green and orange lights interchangeably blinks and displays 99%-100%-99%-100%-99% forever. So i allowed it to sleep (in low power) for more than 5 hours. Now, it neither recognizes the battery, oh no??? The battery icon has black "x" on it. I tried to re-seat the battery, updated OS to 10.4.9, updated battery to 1.2, resetted PMU but nothing happened. Can somebody give me other idea, options on how to go about this or how to resolve such battery problem? Thank you for your time and big heart. May God bless you...

So what you need to do...
First you should check if your MacBook is still covered by the warranty - click the apple menu at the top right of the screen and select 'about this mac', then click 'more info' and the first screen that comes up will have you serial number on it - go here http://www.apple.com/support/contact/ and enter the code.
If it does not come up with anything go to https://register.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/GlobaliReg.woa and register your MacBook.
Once you have done this you will need to ring AppleCare - you can get the number here - http://www.apple.com/support/contact/phone_contacts.html - they will help you!

DVD player seen by Parallels/Windows but not by Macbook Air

I have a Macbook Air with Windows running on Parallels. I have a DVD drive connected via a Thunderbolt display. If I put a disk into the drive it is seen by Windows and not by the Macbook Air. How can I get it to be seen by the MBA and is there a way of switching - eg choosing whether the MBA or Windows sees it

I have a similar problem. I have not used my iPod in a few years. I recently bought a mac. The iPod syncs fine on the windows, but is completely unrecognized by my MacBook Air. I had to buy a USB connector because my iPod had only a firewire cable. Perhaps that's the issue? Disk Utility doe not recognize it. ITunes does not recognize it. In disk mode the screen still reads "OK to disconnect" after I plug it in. Any ideas? (I followed the Rs on the Windows where it's working fine...)
I am abandoning my PC altogether and I am becoming addicted to podcasts. Getting this to work with my MacBook Air would satisfy my new addiction.

Macbook not sleeping

OK - My macbook will not go to sleep based on the Energy Saver settings. Like if I have it to sleep after 10 minutes, it just doesn't go to sleep. If I close the lid or power button --> sleep, it sleeps fine. This happens with BT off/on, Airport off/on, no apps running...
I have moved the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file and rebooted, recreating this file, reset the PMU and PRAM/NVRAM all with no go.
Anyone else have any ideas?

3rd Gen 40GB iPod click-wheel is seen by windows, but not Mac

I just dusted off my old iPod after nearly a year of no use and coulfn't get it to be seen on my MacBook Air with iTunes 7.7. I tried it on my homebuilt PC running Win XP with iTunes 7.7 and it mounted just fine. I did a software update on it, plugged it in overnight to give it a full charge, then tried it on the Mac again. Still no dice. No crash or hang, just as if it didn't exist. But it (the Mac & iTunes)see my wife's and my iPhone just fine. I double-checked and it still shows up and works normally on the PC. I don't want to do a reset if I can avoid, as I have some music on the iPod that isn't on the Mac. It is on the PC, but, it's a hassle to get it across.

Open Safari.
When you can't get to the default website, click "network diagnostics", this will show both you and us where your communication problem is between your computer and the router.
You sure you don't have a network password?
Is the router set to only accept certain MAC addresses?

I have never heard of a relation between the enabled state of Time Machine, and boot. Its probably coincidental.
Try booting in Safe Mode (hold down shift key, whilst booting). Then check for apllications in your Users & Groups preferences that are starting up with login. Disable all startup apps, then eanable them one at a time, booting normall. See which app is possibly hanging.
You can also try doing a Repair Permissions and Repair Disk on your startup drive. This must be done within Disk Utility when booted to your Recovery Partition. To boot to the Recovery Partition, hold down the OPTION key while booting, and select the Recovery Partition drive to boot from. Then run Disk Utility.

You could just try changing your Input Sources under System Preferences>Language & Text:
But I kind of doubt that's going to work. It may be a hardware problem or a system problem. If you take it into Apple they might be able to determine which and might advise a reinstallation of System software. I would take it to an Apple Store or an AASP but, first, make sure that you have a backup just in case they suggest a clean install of the system.

MacBook Pro & USB frustration: Why is it that my USB files appear in an "unrecognized format" when I try to open them on my Mac?

Hello, I recently bought a MacBook Pro and every time I insert my USB, it appears on the desktop. However, when I double-click it to open the files, the files appear in "an unrecognized format". They all end with this: ".lnk"...if it's a video file it ends with .lnk, if it's a picture file it ends with .lnk, if it's ANY document it ends with .lnk. I'm getting tired of this situation and I've only had this laptop for a week. Please, open my eyes and show me that the sacrifice I made to buy it was worth it. I wanted a Mac so bad, and now this is making me hate them and prefer PCs. What do I do??? How can I change that and make this laptop read these files??? Please help. I need to copy some video files from my USB to my Mac as soon as possible.

An lnk file in Windows is a shortcut that points to the actual file. Rather than copy the actual files, you made a shortcut to them on your USB drive. Try going to the Windows machine and selecting the files then choosing Copy, change to your USB drive and choose Paste.
If you were to open a Finder window and right click one of those files then choose Get Info, you'll probably find that it's way to small to contain the movie or whatever.

No. After upgrading (and of course make a back up first) you will need to update iPhoto to v9.6.1 (you won't be able to do this prior to upgrading). Here's how:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Photos is v1 of a new app, as yes it's not as mature as iPhoto. It uses a different technology for working with external editors. That requires Adobe to write an extension to let it hook into the new app. Not done yet, neither has anyone else.
Going forward: iPhoto will run on OS 10.10., but there is no guarantee for subsequent versions of the OS. You might want to factor that into your anger term thinking.

i know loads of people who have had this problem including me. The Java script update apparently had some virus that has overloaded the start up disk. I took to apple who said i have to have the machine rebuilt but first i have to go to a data recovery company to get back everything that was on it.
