Pls. issue an official announcement if tethering i...

been hearing about tethering update in Lumia 800 for a long time now... still no confirm date as yet! unfortunately I bought first and came to know later that the basic feature which I have been using for more then a decade on almost every phone manufacturer is not available on Nokia's flagship product... even the retailer confirmed that the tethering is there in Lumia, don't blame him, as unsuspecting guy wont have thought that Nokia would do such harakiri.. Wake-up Nokia and at least issue an official announcement if tethering is coming on Lumia800 and if yes by when?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Again to reiterate that I have been using tethering for that long, and forget about smart-phones, even simple java phones, e.g. Motorola L-5 kinds.. had this as a basic offering. MS OS - Mobile 6.1 had this at the time of release on HTC!
My contention is that Nokia has still not issued any official statement (on their website/via customer support) if/when will this be avaliable, hence was urging them to share it with their customers and the purchaser has the right to know.
It is Harakiri, if competition has made it avaliable and you don't.. more so, if new release (900)  in the same series (Lumia) is getting the same from release. The legal scenario is same for every  manufacturer.
Flagship product is Lumia, 900 is just another model in the same series..
kevgallacher wrote:
I doubt you have been using mobile tethering for more than a decade. It is not a basic feature of a phone, it is an advanced feature. There are quite a large number of phone that don't support this and many carriers who don't allow it. iOS didn't support it till version 4.3 and Android didn't till version 2.2 Wp7 has only supported it since Mango. So it in no way a standard feature of a mobile.
Nokia have also confirmed that it is coming and that it is coming soon, it is expected to arrive with Tango update which is either this month or May.
I don't see how this like Hari-Kari as it was left out intentionally due to legal issues, and I don't believe Nokia are ashamed of it and they have no reason to be.
Also Nokia 800 is not the flagship phone, the 900 is which supports tethering from release.

  • Again: Policy issue with official certificate

    Hi
The signer of the document in question uses an official p12 keystore issued by QuoVadis.
The receiving user then encounters a problem with the signature in adobe reader 11:
    - The certificate chain is shown correctely
    - The signer-certificate shows the yellow warning flag saying: The selected certificate has errors: Invalid policy constraint
This causes lot of problems in user environments now oblidged to deal with signed documents.
Since we have absolutely no influence on all the various digital ids out in the field following questions:
    - Exactely hat policy constaints hurt adobe readers and why is this checked at all?
    - What can/must we do on the signer's side to get a document signed with an official digital id accepted in adobe reader ?
    - Is it reasonable to think a reader should accept an otherwise valid certification chains without threading the innocent receiver with "Something wrong with document credibility" ?
    Thanks for yor help
    Marcel

A CA may issue many different signing certificates and System Administrator may restrict which signatures signed with certificates issued by this CA should be accepted as Valid on particular Reader installations.
Policy constraints are set on individual Acrobat/Reader installations. Usually they are set by IT but can be also done manually by the users. When policy constraints are enabled Reader validates only signatures signed with DIgital IDs that meet specified policy constraints. In Reader/Acrobat policy constraints are specified per trusted root certificate. In Reader XI go to Edit->Preferences->Signatures, click on More.... in "Identities&Trusted Certificates" and select "Trusted Certificates". In the list of ttrusted certificates select the root certificate of the chain in the problem signature and click "Edit Trust" button. In the dialog that comes up select "Policy Restrictions" tab. It contains on top explanation of what policy restrictions are.
Apparently the installations that exhibit this problem have some "Certificate policies" entered for QuoVadis trusted root. When it happens Reader will mark as Valid only signatures signed with the QuoVadis-issued Digital IDs that include matching policy constraints. There is nothing you can do about it on the signer's side, because it is controlled by the preferences on the recipients' side.

  • Has anyone had issues with McAfee antivirus blocking tethering?

Hello all - trying to help my mother out with her laptop.
She has an Iphone 5S, and we tested - when she activates mobile hotspot, other devices can use it - I tried with my tablet & phone and had no issue - but her laptop is not able to connect to it.
She is running McAfee antivirus on the computer with Windows 7 Ultimate.  In her wireless settings, the laptop can see the hotspot, but when she connects to it and enters the password, she gets a connection failure message and it drops.  I'm thinking she has a case of over-zealous anti-virus software here - thoughts, hints, solutions?

I don't believe the anti-virus would affect the ability to connect to a wi-fi connection. You might, however, want to check the firewall, and or delete any reference to the network in the computer. Windows will allow you to connect to guest networks as long as they are identified as such. Once you begin the connection process, it asks you to identify the network type, home, public, etc. That will put some protections into place, and that has nothing to do with McAfee. I've never had my McAfee interfere with the connection to any wi-fi network, and I've been around a lot of different ones.

  • URGENT HELP PLS :  Issue with Multi Level Master Detail block

This is an issue someone else had posted in this forum few years back but there was no solution mentioned, I have run into this same issue , The problem is as explained below.
Any help on this is appreciated.
    Scenario:
There are 3 Blocks in the form : A (Master Block)
    : B (Detail of A )
    : C (Detail of B )
There is master detail relation created between A and B and B and C. So initially when we query for a record in Master A, it shows all records properly in B and C.
Now if i navigate to the first record of B , and then second record of B , records corresponding to that record shows up properly in C block.
    Till now everything works fine.
    Issue 1:
But in case after querying initially on Master Block A,If I go directly to the second record of B block, it clears the whole B block and C block.
    Issue 2:
Same thing happens if I am on C block ( corresponding to second record of B block) and then navigate to first record in B block , it again clears the whole B block and C block.
    Please Help !!
    Thanks !

Thanks Xem for Your reply , I tried those settings but it did not help..here is the original link that to the thread that talks about the same problem ,

  • The New E65 is Officially Announced

There has appeared the info with the status official on the new Nokia E-series smartphone. It features GSM/3G networking (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA 2100), Wi-Fi adapter, Series 60 v3.0 platform and a high resolution display for the most comfortable surfing.
Earlier the device was said to have a QVGA (240x320 pixels) display, a 2-megapixel camera, 65 MB of internal memory, a microSD slot and Wi-Fi. Besides there was the info on the exact dimensions – 106x47x14 mm.
    http://www.mobile-review.com/fullnews/main/index_eng.shtml#12128
I don't think E90 communicator fact is true.
Yesterday the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved a mobile phone Nokia E61i. The full name in the documentation is Nokia E61-2.
In accordance with Nokia the full documentation for the model will be available at the FCC site by the beginning of March 2007. However the fact of FCC approval proves that Nokia E-series lineup will soon be extended.Message Edited by korngear on 26-Jan-2007

This FAQ is nicely laid out and useful.
    Thanks, Roger.
I suggest it's worth bumping onto page 1 every so often
This was really posted for the regulars, such as yourself, that may post URLs. Mostly I wanted to be sure that anyone still hanging on to URLs from thehangtime.com were warned before the page vanishes (well, I'll add a pointer to the new site, of course, but still...)
And really, I think it would be annoying for the regulars to see this same thread "bumped" each week, or whatever. Smacks a wee bit too much of "self importance" to me
I did write a little app that captures the anchor tags and keeps a local copy, with a spotlight-like search (that was a fun bit of coding B-)>. I wrote it just for myself (The FAQ finally got big enough that I couldn't remember all the Name Tags, heh), but if there was any interest I could probably find the time to clean it up and put it online for anyone that wanted it.
(you might want to give it a different title to encourage
people to look at it before posting).
One can't edit the title after 15 minutes have passed, just like one's post B-(>
You might also consider adding a search engine, such as
    http://www.freefind.com/
I actually do have search available all over the site, but I apparently managed to skip adding it to the ToC. However, I'm intrigued by your freefind as they mention daily re-indexing as opposed to Google's "every couple of weeks" time frame.
I'll give them a more thorough look-over later today, thanks! ~~Hang

  • N8 poor signal reception and other hardware issues...

    I have always been a Nokia fan . I started with Nokia 6600, then N70, then N82 and now a Nokia N8.
However, I am facing the worst experience with N8 reception issues.
The problems faced are as under :
    1) Poor Signal Reception Issues - Signal strength is weak and is constantly fluctuating compared to other Nokia Phones. At my workplace, if Nokia N82 displays 5 bars, N8 would display only 1 or 2 bars.
    2) Phone freezes many times. Whenever an Alarm is enabled, phone freezed much more.
    3) Purple Tint in the display. Nokia Service Centre says that its normal but according to me, they are just ignoring this issue.
    4) Vibration is weak : I often do not realize when the phone is vibrating in my pocket !!
Upcoming Symbian Anna will just improve the user interface but will not be able to solve these hardware issues.
If Nokia plans a hardware update facility for N8 users wherein they can fix the signal reception issues and increase the RAM to 1 GB atleast, I would retain this phone for few years.
But, now, I intend to switch to Samsung Galaxy S II.

  • Assassin's Creed: Unity Announcement

    Hello fellow gamers,
Ubisoft has released an official statement in regards to Assassin's Creed: Unity, specifically in regards to the current state of the game and changes being made the game itself, as well as other aspects of the game, such as Season Pass holders. Please note the FAQ linked within the announcement, as it should answer any questions you may have about the changes! The official announcement is as follows:
An Update on Assassin’s Creed Unity from Yannis Mallat
The launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity was a highly-anticipated moment for me and for our development teams around the world who dedicated a tremendous amount of energy, passion and skill to the game’s creation. For us, it was the culmination of years of work on new technologies, the development of multiple innovations -- including an all-new game engine -- and an evolution of the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s core pillars. More importantly, we know that it was a highly-anticipated moment for many of you as well, as you looked forward to taking part in the first truly next generation Assassin’s
    Creed game.
Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin's Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.
We’ve been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Today, we’re releasing our third patch, which fixes a variety of specific issues related to the game’s stability and performance, matchmaking and connectivity, gameplay and menus. You can find the release notes on that patch here: www.assassinscreed.com/patch3
To show our appreciation for your continued support, we’re making the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC free for everyone. For Season Pass holders, we will also offer the choice of one additional game from a selection of Ubisoft titles for free. More details on the offer for Season Pass holders can be found here: www.assassinscreed.com/faq
In addition to the latest patch and this offer, we are committed to delivering further fixes for other issues you’ve raised. In the meantime, please keep your feedback coming – it has been both humbling and incredibly helpful as we continue working hard to improve the overall quality of the game. We are hopeful that with these forthcoming updates, everyone will be able to truly enjoy their Assassin’s Creed Unity experience.
We will continue striving to make Assassin’s Creed one of the most ambitious and innovative franchises on the market, and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support.
    Sincerely,
    Yannis Mallat
    CEO, Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto
As per usual, please feel free to discuss your thoughts and feelings on these changes! On a personal level, I think it's an admirable move on Ubisoft's part and I appreciate the fact that they've made the changes mentioned above. As I said previously, please refer to the FAQ linked above for any questions you may have.

I have had a number of bugs and game play issues with it as well.  Just last night I was finishing a mission and I could not loot the target because it was half under a bush.
In many other instances random people will simply rise up in the air.  I have found numers objects (like a watermellon) simply floating in the air.
Also the controls are pretty aggravating.  The character often tries to do something other than what I am inputing, this happens moslty when climbing or running on rooftops.  I feel previous versions the controls operated more smoothly.
Howver, it is still a great game.  However, I think they also dropped the ball a little on the in game tutorial.  There are a lot of things i would not know how to do if i had not played previous versions.

  • Security issues faced by users of unsupported OS versions?

Since Tiger users will relatively soon be in the same situation, I'm wondering what kinds of security issues 10.3.9 users have been faced with now that Panther has for some time not been supported by Apple (including no more security updates). I posted the following in the Tiger Forum, but I'd really appreciate hearing what your experience has been. (BD Aqua in Tiger thought issues simply to do with getting around the Internet would be more the problem than safety).
I realize I will, sooner or later, have to buy a new Mac and install a more current version, but I would like to postpone this as long as possible. Thanks.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2033860&tstart=0
Now that S Leo has been officially announced for release in September, a question I've been meaning to ask for a while. What do we Tiger stalwarts have to look forward to in terms of security issues once there are no more security updates, and when, presumably, there are no more new browser versions or updates for soon to be archaic PPC and Tiger? (PPC, I realize, is a separate issue). Will we be, to put it simply, screwed and will it become impossible to safely navigate the internet? I realize the browser issues will probably arrive somewhat later than the OS security issues, since there will continue to be secure third party browsers, at least for a while.
Since we will, relatively soon, be in a similar position, I'm wondering how the folks still running 10.3.9 are >managing with this? (Might post this over there, too.)

Most security updates fix holes in the system that can be exploited by hackers. However, hackers are mostly interested in gaining access to systems that have something of value. An individual's system has virtually nothing of value worth a hacker's time and effort. It's far easier for them to get what they want via Internet phishing exploits, but such exploits cannot be fixed by security releases. They require effort on the part of the user to be careful about sites they visit and clicking on links they know nothing about thus providing information about themselves such as social security and/or banking numbers. No amount of security patches will help you with this.
Most security patches recently issued relate to holes in Safari with a couple for the system. These are obscure holes that require hackers to have intimate knowledge of the software to exploit them. None of these exploits have been known to be used in the field. Rather they have been demonstrated as a way of exposing their existence so they can be fixed.

  • I got a mouse issue with Photoshop.

When trying to use the brush or any tool, the tool doesn't Hold   drag. Clicking and holding to use the brush only creates the initial mark (dot). I have a MacBook Air and Photoshop Elements 11. I searched on the internet and people say its got to do with a program named Synergy but I really do not know. Hope you can help me.

    Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
    1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
    2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
    Plug-in installation instructions:
    1. Close Photoshop Elements
    2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
    3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
    • For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
    • For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
    Hope this helps!

  • [ANNOUNCE] JSF-RI 1.2_05 FCS has been released!

    Official announcement: https://javaserverfaces.dev.java.net/servlets/NewsItemView?newsItemID=5408
    Blog entry: http://blogs.sun.com/rlubke/entry/jsf_ri_1_2_05

I downloaded the JSF RI from the Sun site and included the jars in WEB-INF/lib.
However, I see now why using the bea shared library would work because bea have added WeblogicInjectionProvider.class to the standard jsf-impl.jar.
Do you think it would be better if bea provided the class in a separate jar? Would it work if I just copied the class to a separate jar in my WEB-INF/lib?
Otherwise it seems developers have to use the version of JSF shipped by BEA which is 1.2_03. Almost a year old now.

Palm please please please when will you add classic to European store??
The wait is now becoming disheartening....... As new palm user I spent hundreds of $$s on apps I cannot use with no resolution in site.... Not only that but what of the loyal palm supporters in EU left high and dry????? Please can you say something and act  on this issue.

Post relates to: Pre p100ueu (O2)

I have also purchased Classic and cannot get to it to download it.  It's advertised on the palm.com site but is not in the App catalog.  I also have a load of purchased programs from my treo and would like to continue using them until they become natively available on WebOS (if at all).
My Pre is in the UK with an O2 contract.
Would it be worth me flying to the States, downloading it there and then flying back?
Palm, please let us know what you're doing.

  • Compiz is now officially forked

Compiz is now officially forked by QuinnStorm - the author of compiz-quinn patchset.
Well, as is usual with these things, the cat fell out of the bag before I got a chance to announce it.  Anyhow, here it is, the official announcement of the Beryl project.
Beryl is a fork of compiz, and a collection of other tools to go along with it.
CSM has become Beryl Settings Manager (beryl-settings)
CGWD has become Emerald, with its companion emerald-theme-manager.
The entire project is currently hosted in SVN at:
        svn://metascape.afraid.org/svnroot/beryl
You can check it out from there, or if you want to develop for it, get in touch with one of us and we'll set you up with an account.
All of the work that had been maintained as the community or 'quinn' tree of compiz has become Beryl.  This change is necessitated by the difference in direction and vision of our community as compared with davidr/novell's approach.
The first release of Beryl is not far off, but is still pending some major bugfixes that need to be implemented.  We want to close as many bugs as possible with the first release.

fork, means that there's now two projects. so the existing PKGBUILDs stand, and im sure compiz will remain developed. its now that theres a second one.
I think Romashka referred to PKGBUILDs like compiz-quinn-cvs which, for example, should become beryl-svn.
