Pls recommend a "n" access point that plays nice with APEn. THANKS

Good day.
I wish to use my newly purchased SlingBox on the ''n" side of my g/n dual band network.
So, I need to get the slingbox and my desktop, G5, presently using the APexpress 'g'.
Thanks tons.
P.S. The slingBox is outstanding!!!!

Hello, here in forum are several threads with discussing same issue, for example here. The result is, that using 2.0.7.4 Firmware on both AP and Repeater breaks Repeater functionality. With 2.0.6.1 firmware on AP and 2.0.7.4 on Repeater connectivity should work.

  • Cheap wireless router that plays nice with macs??

    Greetings:
I have the older cone-shaped airport extreme base station...
it's working fine & I'm very happy with it.
    My situation is this....
Periodically I go thru times of network degradation when I pull my hair out trying to ascertain if the issue is my ISP mothership, my cable modem, the airport extreme base station, or any of the myriad of links in the chain along the way.
It's struck me on more than one occasion that it sure would be handy if I had *another wireless router on the shelf that I could grab & go with.
At issue, however are several matters:
--the fact that many other routers don't play nice with macs
--the fact that I **need to do WEP security (it seems to be being dropped by a lot of newer routers).......but my TIVO won't do WPA & also I still have 2 older imacs on my home wireless network.
I would LOVE to hear a recommendation of something cheap & locally plentiful (like at the local best buy) that still does WEP & will play nice with macs.
    Thanks for your help.

You have the option to configure both your AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express to "participate in a WDS network, so the Express will connect to the AiirPort Extreme using wireless only and then "extend" the reach of the wireless network.
Or, connect the Express to the Extreme using an Ethernet cable and configure it to "create a wireless nework", which will also provide more wireless coverage.....with greater bandwidth because you are connecting routers together using Ethernet, not wireless.
The following Apple document will give  you all the options:

  • Have just found a hickup on the Lion software 10.7.2 When using a access point that you name with letters that is only in Norwegian æøå you will loose connections and only get time out. So the solution will be to rename the access point.

Any solution beside to rename the wifi access point without the spesial Norwegian letters æøå?

Your points match mine pretty well, though here are some thoughts:
    1. I thought about this theory myself this morning (iTunes possibly causing more issues), but I haven't been able to verify it.
    2. When I set up a new user it seemed better for a while, but the issue croppped back up. Yesterday I fully wiped the machine and reinstalled from scratch. I did not reimport my user from TimeMachine, but the problem has come back. My thinking was that I might have some really old software or prefs hanging around causing the issue. No dice.
    3. This is my current theory of the issue, so my next step will be to pull the RAM from Crucial and see how the system behves. IF that doesn't eliminate the problem, I'll pull the factory installed RAM and replace it with the 3rd party RAM. The odd thing is how many people seem to have similar issues - I know two personally, and have seen several posts on forums. I think the most common point for this happening was the 10.7.2 update, which would point to software as the culprit.
    4. That matches my experience.
My hope is that this will be repaired in the forthcoming 10.7.3 release (current production version is 10.7.2), but otuside of what I noted above, I'm at a loss.

  • Need help Please. Which play nice with macs? Palm Treo's Or Tmobile MDA?

Hi all, I post on here from time to time, but hardly anyone ever answers my questions. Here's my dilema. I bought a Tmobile MDA over the weekend that runs microsoft windows mobile 5.0. And while playing with it have noticed some things about it that i think are'nt that good. For example, I like the fact that its a windows os, but think that it's flawed. I have done quite a bit of research but don't think that it's active sync software is even compatible with mac osx. so have'nt even tried to mess with it. now i'm still in the 14 day window and am thinking about returning it. but here's the thing....
I know that tmobile has EDGE, and it's considerably slower than verizon or sprints EVDO. (since i've researched it i know that edge is around the 70-170KBPS range when EVDO has 300-700KBPS) And tonight i was messing with this tmobile MDA and finally got it to work to connect to the net with it using bluetooth and it's "modem" ability to connect it to the web. But it S U C K S! i went to and did a bandwith test and i was only getting like 12.1-27.1kbps download (after running 2 tests) dude, it feels slower than dialup!
so with that bullet against it, comes the compatible part. I can't sycn this thing with my mac for NOTHING! do any of you out there have a palm treo? (either verizon, sprint, or att.... carrier X?) How does it sync with your mac? is it hard? any extra software i need to get/buy? have any of you used it to connect to the net? and if so, how's the speed? And here's an even bettter question... How long did it take to config it to work using the phone as a modem? Did you use bluetooth? or serial link? was it easy to config? Where did you find the instructions?
I know these are a lot of questions, but this is a large investment for me. I mean this thing ain't cheap and it does'nt really play nice. I don't mind paying a little extra, for some peace of mind, and knowing that it won't crash often and will work with my mac. Anyone out there got any other suggestions? I would really appreciate it. I would like your opinion on which one is the easiest to use that plays nice with a mac, and has a interface that's almost as nice. Thank you so much for your time. I will be following this post closely and comment you all back for your replys
Mac Book Pro 1.83 GHZ 512 Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

It really is a toss up cause Ive owned two Treo's and Ive read extensive reviews on Windows mobile devices and it seems to me like they're pretty similar in the way of hardware and software(minus the fact of using different operating systems). So I think the determining factor really ought to be more focused on how much you're willing to pay, and the level of support you get for each device. I recently got rid of my Treo 650 due to an interesting touchscreen problem and got a windows mobile device(should come tomorrow)
in the way of syncing with a mac:
The Treo is extremely simple to set up and use with a Mac(keep in mind Im not talking about the 700w/wx)in every aspect. Palm provides OSx compatible software(though its almost impossible to get rid of after installation). However, in my experience, Palm does not really do a good job in the customer service department. While they have a rather extensive support page for each device(some of the info is outdated), that's pretty much all you get unless you don't mind spending hrs scouring various forums. Talking to customer service is a joke. Like I said I had a problem with the touchscreen and the best the rep could give me was "try a hard reset" and "send it in for repair".
I have yet to experience what windows mobile will be like. At the very least with syncing, theres syncing software made by people who had OSx in mind(ie: Missing Sync or Pocketmac) who will probably be able to help out a lot more in this area and possible also be able to help out with the other issues you mentioned.
a good place to check out would be howardforums.com, you'll probably get better answers there.

  • List of routers/access points that work/don't work with new airport extreme

Lets try to put together a list of routers/access points that work with the integrated airport extreme in the new intel macs and 10.4.5 (or 10.4.4) The purpose is to determine what is needed to make this work.
    1) only wireless g, 802.11b does not seem to have this problem, psp probably is not supported by most 802.11b cards so its probably disabled in that mode.
    I'll start off.
imac dou core. ( 1 week old)
dlink 2100ap , wireless g , does not work, slow not paifully slow internet access, very degraded video/audio streaming over local network.

    I'm afraid 11b is affected.
    I have a D-Link DSL 604+ router, which is 11b only.
Wireless is very slow, I noticed it right away. I get the sawtooth readout in activity monitor's network section.
Also, after putting the iMac to sleep it cannot find my wifi network upon waking. I have to restart the system before it'll connect to my wifi network again.

  • Make Illustrator play nice with OS X Spaces, eh?

Hey Mr & Mrs Adobe --
Can you pretty please make your apps play nice with OS X Spaces? It's only been around since October 2007. I'm tired of having documents in two different spaces.  k'thanks.

While I don't believe this discussion belongs here (try Feature Requests, next time), I think Adobe is not completely innocent here. Spaces is a feature of the OS that's been around for two years, and that Adobe has had access to for even longer. Other companies with fewer resources than Adobe, and without developer seeds, were able to support Spaces from day 1. Even programs released before Leopard usually work with it.
Adobe has proven that they do not care about Mac OS conventions or about fully supporting the Macintosh OS. For the amount of money they charge for their programs and upgrades (which are often little more than bug fixes that should be no charge) it is not asking too much for support of basic OS features.

  • Why won't iTunes 'play nice' with Windows 8.1

After following painstaking, tedious Troubleshooting hoop-jumping**, iTunes (latest version) STILL refuses to "play nice" with Windows 8.1
Stalls out (Windows Task Manager reports "not responding") and does truly nasty things like blanking computer display and making Windows 8.1 system commands non-responsive (iTunes also has to be Forced closed ['End Task'] using Task Manager)
    My question:
ANY HOPE that iTunes will EVENTUALLY actually work with Windows 8.1?? (Of course, there's NO '8.1' listed in drop-down menu, inspiring further confidence!)
Adding INSULT to INJURY - Apple programmers DEMAND/FORCE creation of NSA-grade Password to Login to iTunes!!?!  (8 minimum, mandatory Capital and lower case letters, plus number(s), plus NO repeats, plus NO "common passwords" [whatever THOSE are] etc. etc. etc....ad nauseum)
    ARGGGH!
** Update iTunes, start in Safe mode, re-start (iTunes & Windows), check AV status, shut down AV & firewall, scan for viruses, check status of all drivers, all DLL's, any "possibly conflicting" applications [whatever THOSE are], create new User Account, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum!
At the risk of repeating myself ...  ARGGGH!

Just checking that you've tried "iTunes Safe Mode" as opposed to "Windows Safe Mode"?
Press and hold down CTRL+SHIFT the instant you click the icon that launches iTunes and keep holding until this message appears.
Click Continue, then close iTunes and reopen. Some people seem to have had success with this approach...
Alternatively, have you tried removing all iTunes components and then reinstalling as shown in the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates?

  • If apple is dropping iDisk are they going to play nice with others?

If apple is dropping iDisk are they going to play nice with Pages amd Numbers apps and let me access SkyDrive, DropBox, Box and so on?  Or am I stuck with the lame iWork?

Whether Apple will ever support direct connections to any of the other cloud services is something no one here knows or can say. You can comment to Apple on the matter here, if you wish:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
For now, there is a workaround for DropBox by using an intervening service and the Copy to WebDAV option. Whether there's a similar option for other services I don't know. Otherwise, the only option is sharing via email or synchronzation via iCloud.

  • Can't connect to Access Point that is connected to the Internet (Snow Leopard 10.6.8)

    Hi all,
I am normally not someone who posts on support forums since most of the problems can be solved be searching through piles of other questions, but this things has really got me pulling out my hair and I hope that maybe someone can help me with this super weird problem.
So, a few weeks back, my Mac Mini (kind of old, guessing 2007) stopped connecting to Wireless networks. Since all other devices in home (iPhone, MacBook Pro and a PC) are connecting just fine I thought it had to do with my settings. All it says is: "connection timeout".
The Mac Mini connects just fine when I plug in an ethernet cable, but that's a no go since I don't want cables laying around our living room that much.
I tried a lot of things suggested my other people like removing settings, PRAM reset, moving the AP closer, router settings etc etc. Of no avail. Even tried to fix it by reinstalling Snow Leopard, but that didn't do it either.
Though when I turned my MBP into an Access Point it could connect to that network just fine. That made me wonder if it's my router, but once I plug in an ethernet cable into my MBP to share Internet access it won't connect! Tried the same with my router and indeed, it connects just fine once it has no Internet connection.
Tried searching for people that had the same problem, but I couldn't find them. Can anybody here help?
TLDR; Mac won't connect to Wireless network that has an internet connection, but does when it hasn't.
    Thanks!

Try disconnecting the router from the internet (WAN port) and plugging a PC directly into one of the LAN ports. After resetting, ignore the smartwifi login, click the two checkboxes, and login manually/directly with the "admin" password and reconfigure.
If you don't want to do all that just yet, try accessing the router from the public IP address assigned by your ISP. That might work

  • IOS Access Point Bombards TACACS+ Server with Requests

Problem: When using the web GUI to manage an IOS access point such as the AP350, AP1100, or AP1200, and when using TACACS+ to authenticate the HTTP accesses, the access point will send numerous authentication requests to the TACACS+ server for each web page accessed.
Workaround given by cisco was to use single-connection tacacs server.
    My question:
How to implement this command? Is it as below
    "tacacs-server host x.x.x.x single-connection port 49 key test".
I've tried using this command but still getting numerous authentication request.
    Any help?
    regards,
    Ganesh

We experienced similar problems. We were instructed to use local authentication at the current time. Something about HTTP requiring authentication for each part of the page that accesses data. The configuration line is:
    ip http authentication local
The single connection did not help. We were also advised that if we required ACS HTTP authentication to use RADIUS because it scaled better than TACACS and would not be as impacted as TACACS. If neither of these are an option, another workaround is to, disable logging "passed authentications". We tested this and it prevented our ACS server from pegging the cpu, memory and I/O write queues. We opted for local authentication because the lack of "passed authentication" logs impacted our troubleshooting.
    Good Luck

  • Turn your old WAP54G access point into a nice universal repeater

If you have an old Linksys WAP54G access point lying around, you can turn it into a nice repeater even if you don't use a Linksys wifi router.
The stock firmware in the WAP54G supports only Linksys routers for repeater and bridge functions, but if you upload the very nice DD-WRT firmware (at your own risk, etc.) from here and then configure your reborn device as described here, you can get around the proprietary block built in by Linksys.
I wouldn't do this with a critical device or one that's still under warranty (if indeed there are any still under warranty), but if you're like me and you have a growing collection of network gadgets in your closet, you might be able to blow an afternoon and have a little fun.
I haven't tested to see if the effective range is actually extended or boosted -- probably not boosted, but just relayed -- but certainly I connect to a much stronger signal than when I had to pick up my wifi signal from the other side of my home.
Plus, I had the immense satisfaction of circumventing a manufacturer's proprietary restrictions on the use of purchased hardware.

  • Access Points not being associated with Controller

I have a 4400 series controller capable of 25 access points. I currently have 11 deployed and the controller is only seeing 10. Also if I have the need to reset a switch the AP is hanging from it can take days for the AP to find itself again, if it finds itself at all. Any Thoughts? I am new to this technology.

I double checked and it is set to Auto/Auto. It is connected to a Cisco Catalyst 6513 on a WS-X6454-ge-tx board. It's port is setup as a trunk but I am having difficulities setting it to a dot1q trunk. I was trying to use the "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q" command but the only command that board will give me is a "switchport dot1q ethertype 600-FFFF" command. When I type in "switchport trunk ?" I get no encapulation only Allowed, Native and Pruning. I am using an unused VLAN for my trunk.I also double checked my ports my AP's are on and they too are set to Auto speed / duplex. As far as performance Since this is a new setup we have had limited users at a time testing but all have been getting about 54Mbps. Any other thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have tried getting onto the Cisco site again this morning but it is DOG SLOW. Not sure what that is about. Everything else seems fine.

  • Wireless access point no longer working with ios7

Upgraded to ios7 and did not change anything. Wireless access point still recognised in settings however no internet connection possible. What's wrong or different with iOS 7?

    1. Turn router or access point off for 30 seconds and on again.
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

  • Is there any Macpro that plays well with FCPX?

Is there a Macpro out there that plays 3 cam 1920 x 1080 Pro Res multicam perfectly without dropping frames and still plays perfectly without rendering for things like dissolves?
My late model Imacs do this perfectly even with slow Lacie drives, but my mid 2010 3.33 GHZ Macpro with 24 GB of Ram and ATI 5770 graphics card is constantly reporting dropped frames, and not because of slow hard drives. And, strangelly, while it is reporting drop frames, and about 5 GiGS of memory used,  the CPU shows almost 80% idle!  Do I need a better graphics card or should I give up on Macpro? Or is there something wrong with the FCP programming?

  • Scale out file server client access point using public nic

    Thoughts on this one.
I have a Scale Out File Server cluster with a Client Access Point. Whenever i talk to the Client Access Point it uses the public nics.
If i talk to the Scale Out File Server directly it uses the private like i want it to. How can i get the Client Access Point using the private nics?

Could you tell us why you want to modify the CAP use the “private” network, the CAP is used for client access, your clients may can’t access your cluster if modify your CAP
