PLSQL access to OAE session vars?

Hi folks,
Is it possible to access session values from within a body of PL/SQL called by OAE? That is, I'd like to access some session variables (including App Number, btw) in my PL/SQL code...
I saw a reference to
htmldb_application.fetch_app_item(p_item=>'ITEM_NAME',p_app=>200);
in an earlier post, but since appNumber is actually one of the things I don't want to hard-code in my PL/SQL that's a little defeating...
Thanks,
Jim C.

Dumb, dumb, dumb... When am I going to learn?
Read first --> then Post.
Oy. Chapter 13, User's Guide. HTMLDB_UTIL.GET_SESSION_STATE() (or V() ) seems to do it.
Thanks for putting them in there, guys!

  • Session Vars and Local Firewalls

I've been getting more complaints lately that session vars
are getting lost and normally I walk them through making sure
cookies are enabled, but now that doesn't seem to be always the
case anymore and have finally isolated it to when they install a
firewall. If they disable it works, but when on it doesn't. Is
there anything I can do besides telling them not to use their
    firewall?
    Server specs:
    ColdFusion MX 6.1 on a non-clustered environment.
    User:
Using IE and using "e-trust EZ Armor"

I assume then, you are storing variables in cookies, rather
than registry or database then, correct?
Are these local firewalls? (on the actual PC) or H/W on a
    network?
If they are local, the firewall itself may be eliminating the
cookie storage, not the browser ... if it is, it likely has a way
    to change the settings.
There's not much you can do if you are forced to use cookies
for sessions (which is very common) other than altering your coding
or having the user change their settings.
If you have access to the CF admin, you may try setting up a
DB service for variable storage, which is an option.

  • Session vars, CFCs and CFHTTP

    Hi guys
I'm using session vars to maintain whether or not a user is
logged in on our site. The only problem is is that the session vars
seem to be lost after I call a CFC that then does a CFHTTP post.
Does anyone know how I maintain the session vars?
    I'm using CF MX 7

Why do you say they are lost? Are you sure you did not just
    misplace them?
In other words nothing about CFC's or CFHTTP would
    intrinsically destroy
session variables in memory. But they could easily not have
    access to
the scope as you desire if you do not understand how
    templates and cfml
code are associated with a given session scope when it is
    running in memory.

Have you created XA data source? If yes then make sure that in connection factory you are assigning the JNDI name of data-source in XAdataSource property (NOT in datasource property). Also make sure that your datasource is up and running and you are updating the dbadapter after creating connection factory.

  • Tables stored in memory but may be accessed from other sessions

    Dear Oracle experts,
it may be a stupid question but I'm searching for the best possibility to create a kind of temporary table which may be accessed from other sessions.
Could you provide some hints/ catchwords to speed up my recherches.
    Thank you very much,
    Daniel

I fear that the caching is not suitable for my case because of the reasons decribed in my other postings...First of all I don't think that you need to worry about the effectiveness of the caching in your particular case. In addition Oracle is very clever at when to actually write the dirty blocks from the buffer cache to the disks, so if your amount of data written to the result table is fairly small and no other activity is going on your system it won't get written to disk immediately anyway but stay in memory until any of the conditions are met that trigger the database writer to flush the blocks to disk.
But there are options you could consider if you want to avoid as much of the overhead as possible and to write the results of your calculation to the result table as fast as possible.
You could use direct-path inserts (INSERT /*+ APPEND */) and set the result table to "NOLOGGING". This way no undo and minimum redo is generated.
Note however that there are certain caveats and restrictions to consider when using such an approach, e.g. your result table won't be recoverable (which you say is OK), only one direct-path insert is allowed simultaneously (it blocks the table exclusively, no other DML possible until you commit/rollback the transaction), and the direct-path insert has some restrictions. If any of these apply that prevent the direct-path operation then it silently falls back to "conventional" insert mode which generates undo and redo. One of the more annoying restrictions is that you can't read from a table that has been written to in direct-path mode within the same transaction, you first have to commit the transaction, otherwise you get "ORA-12838: cannot read/modify an object after modifying it in parallel". This means by simply adding the APPEND hint you might break existing logic.
Finally the direct-path insert never re-uses free space in blocks below the current high-water mark, which means if you perform a direct-path insert and afterwards delete rows from the table and repeat again a direct-path insert operation your segment will grow and the empty space in the already used blocks won't get re-used. Best way would be to truncate the table rather than deleting rows from it.
There are workarounds available to overcome some of these direct-path insert limitations (exclusive lock, truncate instead of delete etc.), like using a partitioned table (if you have a suitable edition/license), because direct-path inserts can be restricted to partitions. In this case you can do simultaneous direct-path inserts if you use different partitions, but you need then some kind of logic that determines which partition to use.

  • Communications Express doesn't create access Manager SSO session

    Hi all,
I'm running Communications Express, Sun Access Manager and Sun messaging server, each on seperate hosts.
Single Sign On works i.e. when users have a valid session and point their browser at the Communications Express URL they can access their mail, calendar and addressbooks without further ado.
When they don't have a valid session though and the users go to the Communications Express URL they get a username and password prompt. If they enter valid credentials they will be logged in, but the session created is only a local session, not an Access Manager SSO session. This behaviour has changed from the previous versions of Comm Exp which wouldn't work at all without SSO.
Is it possible to configure communications express to either redirect users to the Access Manager's authentication page or have Comm Exp create the SSO session on the users behalf?
    TIA
    Herman
    Versions:
    - Communications Express 6.3 update 1
    - Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-4.01 (built Aug 3 2007; 32bit)

    Hi Shane,
as always your anwer is better then I could have expected. A more or less complete manual

The cleanest solution I could develop to address the behavioural change was to
leverage a web-server policy agent to perform the redirections.
I wrote up a guide but never received any feedback unfortunately so results-may-vary.
I have republished this guide externally - feedback is welcome:
http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/AM_redirection_using_Policy_AgentTook me some time to implement, test and write feedback:
The setup we have is a little more complex then the a single box scenario you
    have tested on:
From the internet working inwards we have load balanced
SSL accelerators (apache+SSL doing reverse proxy) in front of
dedicated application servers running communications express.
Mail is retrieved from separate mail-store clusters.
Access manager is configured similarly: load balanced SSL accelerators
in front of application servers running the login page (disributed
authentication UI). Those then talk to the access manager cluster.
Firewalls and access lists between each of those layers. None of the
applications can be accessed directly from the internet and they are
limited in what they can access in the DMZ as well.
I followed your recipe to the letter. After a bit of tweaking everything
worked like a charm. Policy agent installed and configured on the
SUN webserver where communications express is deployed.
Instructions were very good on detail and easy to follow.
We deploy uwc in the root of the server not in /uwc. Something I didn't notice right away.
It would seem that the policy agent expects the values com.sun.am.naming.url
(The URL for the Access Manager Naming service) and
com.sun.am.policy.am.login.url (The URL of the login page on the Access Manager
where users should enter their credentials) to be the same host.
In our setup the URL/host users have to use to log in can't be accessed by the policy agent.
The policy agent should verify sessions directly against the access manager cluster.
I played with some of the override settings in the policy agent configuration file but
without much success. Eventually I used the hostname our users have to use to log
in and abused the /etc/hosts file to map the external hostname to the internal address
of the access manager cluster. Users end up on the correct login page, and the policy
agent can verify the sessions. Ugly, but it works.
The other issue is that the policy agent redirects to:
    com.sun.am.policy.am.login.url?goto=URL_Protected_by_Policy_Agent
When a users enters incorrect credentials they get the default login url, without the
goto parameter. (May be bug in access manager or by design...) After entering their
credentials correctly on their second or third try users won't be redirected back to UWC,
but will end up on the default page defined by their iplanet-am-user-success-url LDAP attribute.
I solved that in the policy agents configuration file by adding the gotoOnFail=URL in the
    definition of com.sun.am.policy.am.login.url:
com.sun.am.policy.am.login.url = https://login.domain.com:443/amserver/UI/Login?gotoOnFail=https://uwc.domain.com:443When you enter incorrect credentials you'll be redirected back to uwc (where the policy agent
will again intercept you and send you on to the login page for your next try). May be more of
an issue in the policy agent then your manual.

    Herman

You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server.  This exception is considered retriable, likely due to a communication failure.  To classify it as non-retriable instead add property nonRetriableErrorCodes with value "0" to your deployment descriptor (i.e. weblogic-ra.xml).  To auto retry a retriable fault set these composite.xml properties for this invoke: jca.retry.interval, jca.retry.count, and jca.retry.backoff.  All properties are integers.

Its hard to say what is going on.  Though the message says the error is in obtaining a TopLink session, the exception stack has nothing to do with TopLink, and the error seems to be coming from oracle.tip.adapter.db.toplinkext.NameEnquoter.init() directly calling weblogic.jdbc.wrapper.Connection.getMetaData() on what must be a stale or closed connection.  This looks like a DB adapter application, so you might want to post this question there as they might be able to help configure your datasource appropriately for the application.

  • Is it possible for an applet within a jsp to access a server session?

I was trying to find info (and sample code) where an applet that is embedded and running within a JSP page accesses the same session of the jsp page it is in.
The need is for the the applet to access a string within the session and capture it's value and then perform some actions with the string client side within the applet. The value of the string is not important for the example, just being able to access it is.
Also can javascript cause the applet to call the server on say an "onclick" event? If so, how is this done?
In otherwords, can javascript interact with an applet?

Check out the documentation on Heterogeneous Connectivity.
    Hope this helps!

  • Session Var

ok, I set a session var to about 2K of text
I have an iframe which is part of a menu navigation system.
The content of that iframe is slow to get from the DB so I
cache the HTML for it into a session var.
If a user clicks a link, the iframe submits to itself, does
a few things, and then cflocation's out to the chosen page.
The next time this iframe is loaded( almost immediately) it
reads the session var and it is EMPTY!
I'm not overwriting it, not structDelete'ing it, Any time I
set it outside of this page, it's done with a check to see
if it isDefined first, and if so, does nothing.
Are there known issues with CFParam? large text session vars?
    WTF?

So, I pulled out Fiddler, and lo and behold I was
making a call to my page with no params at one part
of the load and then later on, calling it again
properly with the correct params. I'm checking
for an empty URL param set now and all is well...

JavaScript runs on the Client.  ColdFusion runs on the server.  They do not talk to each other or share memory.
The only way to get data from the client to the server is to make a request.  The only way to get data from the server to the client is to respond to a request.
You can make that request by submitting a form either in the get or post scope.
You can make that request by sumitting a request with the xmlHTTPrequest() function, commonly called AJAX.
But somehow or the other you have to make a request.

  • Can not access FWSM via session command in cisco 6513 (VSS enabled)

    Dear All,
Today i received FWSM from cisco (RMA), I need to configure it as standby unit for existing FWSM active/standby setup.
IOS on RMAed FWSM is 2.3.4 and  cisco VSS supports FWSM IOS 4.0.4 and later.
My issue is, I cannot access FWSM (IOS 2.3.4) via session command from cisco 6513 but could successfully consoled it without any problem. I have reloaded it twice and also tried to disable and enable power on it.
    VSS#sh module switch 2

The default escape character is Ctrl-^, then x.
You can also type 'exit' at the remote prompt to end the session
    Trying 127.0.1.21 ...
% Connection timed out; remote host not responding
Can someone please let me know why I cannot access FWSM through session command ?
Whether this is because of older IOS ? If yes then how to upgrade its IOS ?
Is it possible to upgrade IOS via FWSM console ? if yes, please let me know.
Do i need to test on different slot ?
Look forward to hearing from someone.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ahmed...

There is a limitation that FWSM running version older than 4.0.4 will not accept session from the switch if the FWSM is not seated into switch 1 AND if switch 1 is not active.
So to upgrade the FWSM you either need to use the console or put the FWSM physically in switch 1.
    Thanks,
    Jeroen

I am presuming that you meant to say something like "to

    else.
    I.E.

  • Is there a way I can access my previous session in order to restore it?

I have version 3.6.17. I just updated it. In my previous version, I had the restore session setting set. The way it worked was, if I clicked Mozilla and multiple windows came up (including the "restore previous session") one and I accidentally closed the "restore previous session" window, the next time I clicked Mozilla, the "restore previous session" window would come up. However, that didn't happen with this newer version. So, I was wondering if there was any possible way I could possibly access my previous session in order to restore it (i.e., type something in the location bar)? I am also using Windows XP. Also, this happened June 23, 2011. Please help! I want to find my tabs again. I had 2 separate windows open. Please help! Thanks.
