PLSQL_CODE_TYPE INTERPRETED / NATIVE?
Hi!
I just exported my schema with ttSchema and saw before every PL/SQL package +"alter session set PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = INTERPRETED;"+
Now I ask myself is there also +"NATIVE"+ possible? :)
TT documentation doesn't mention anything - at least I couldn't find it - only the normal Oracle documentation (e.g.: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B12037_01/server.101/b10755/initparams158.htm)
If I use the +"NATIVE"+ flag TT doesn't throw an error - but I can't see any speedup in normal operation on my test system (I have to admit - I didn't do any explicit performance tests with the new flag).
So is it supported? Is it recommended (compile time isn't an issue - but performance in normal operation)?
Thanks in advance!
Thilo
Thanks a lot for your fast answer...
But then I would expect an error - otherwise this is very confusing ;)
+Command> alter session set PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = NOT_SUPPORTED_FLAG;+
+12706: Invalid session parameter value+
The command failed.+
+Command> alter session set PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = NATIVE;+
Session altered.+
Do you know if or when this will be supported?
Thanks a lot!
Cheers
Thilo

INTERPRETED - NATIVE for eBS 12.1 on 11g DB
I'm converting my 11g database for my 12.1.3 eBS environment from standard INTERPRETED to NATIVE, but I'm facing the following problem:
The procedure (Metalink doc) runs fine, but initially he does not show the content of the plsql directory as a parameter (which may be OK on 11g),
but later on he does not create ANY file into this directory, even when the database says all needed database object types are now of type NATIVE. All objects are also still valid (meaning : no new invalid objects are seen)
I have an SR open for this same problem, no feedback yet
Can somebody give a clue here ? Is the conversion successful ?
Thanks,
TonyThe procedure (Metalink doc) runs fine, but initially he does not show the content of the plsql directory as a parameter (which may be OK on 11g),
Correct, in 11g plsql_native_library_dir and plsql_native_library_subdir_count have no effect and are are not needed -- Behavior Changes After Upgrading Oracle Database

If no errors/warnings can be found in the database alert log file and the startup of the database is successful then your conversion is successful.

Plsql_code_type native
For those of you that have set plsql_code_type to native, I have a few questions:
- Why did you set the parameter
- Was there a noticeable change in performance
- Did you have any issues as a result of the changeThere are some reported issues on MOS website.

Plsql_optimize_level = 3 and native compilation in SQL Developer?
SQL Developer: Version 3.1.06 (Build MAIN-06.82)
Oracle: 11gR2
OS: Ubuntu 10.10
Whenever I compile a PL/SQL unit in SQL Developer (using 'Compile' button) it is compiled with the following settings:
PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL = 2
PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = 'INTERPRETED'
However, if I issue the following commands in an SQL Worksheet:
ALTER SESSION SET plsql_optimize_level = 3;
ALTER PACKAGE PACKAGE_NAME COMPILE PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = NATIVE;
the query SELECT PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL, PLSQL_CODE_TYPE FROM ALL_PLSQL_OBJECT_SETTINGS WHERE NAME = 'PACKAGE_NAME'; resullts in
PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL PLSQL_CODE_TYPE
3 NATIVE
3 NATIVE
Is it possible to make SQL Developer to use these settings by default?
P.S. It seems that Tools > Preferences > Database > PL/SQL Compiler menu section is missing the options I need (Optimization level drop-down menu have numbers 0-2, but not 3). Are there any plans to support these features in the future releases?
Edited by: Ravshan Abbasov on Feb 6, 2012 6:28 AMHi Ravshan,
I thought a workaround would be to create a sql script like the following:
alter session set plsql_code_type=native;
alter session set plsql_optimize_level=3; then point to it in the setting for Tools|Preferences|Database|Filename for connection startup script. That doesn't work however, as the other preference setting for plsql_optimize_level overrides the session value of 3 during compilation from the UI.
According to Oracle documentation, level 3 was added for Oracle 11g. Prior to that, the same effect could be achieved by level 2 in conjunction with the INLINE pragma in the PL/SQL code.
You might want to make a feature request for this on the SQL Developer Exchange so the community can vote and comment.

Gary

And, of course, Compile for Debug does not work with the 'native' setting. -
Unable to set PLSQL_COMPILER_FLAGS to INTERPRETED.
Hi,
I am working on 10gR2 Windows 2003 x64 AMD Opteron.
The PLSQL_COMPILER_FLAGS and PLSQL_CODE_TYPE parameters were set to NATIVE by me. I also set the directory for it and assigned the value to the parameter PLSQL_NATIVE_LIBRARY_DIR.
However, since I cannot find the correct compilers, I wanted to change it back to NATIVE. So, I removed the value for PLSQL_NATIVE_LIBRARY_DIR and set the values for PLSQL_COMPILER_FLAGS and PLSQL_CODE_TYPE to INTERPRETED.
On restarting the instance after the change in the values, the value for PLSQL_COMPILER_FLAGS changes to NATIVE.
(1) Any solutions on how to set the PLSQL_COMPILER_FLAGS to INTERPRETED for good? and,
(2) Where to get the correct compilers for my server and how to install them, basically, how would Oracle know where (path) to look for the compiler binaries??
thanx
vickAnd, I still want to use the PLSQL_CODE_TYPE as NATIVE, but the compilers wont work fine.
If anyone has any info, my specs are:
Oracle 10gR2 - 64 bit
Windows 2003 x64 on AMD Opteron.
According to the Oracle documentation, I needed to have Windows 2003 SDK. So, we got Visual Studio 2005 installed, which updated with the latest updates from Microsoft alongwith the compilers.
Since we had an issue with "unable to find the defaultLib" and got another message of "NO InstalledSDKs", we are reverting back to the INTERPRETED. -

Help needed for hash_area_size setting for Datawarehouse environment
We have an Oracle 10g Datawarehousing environment , running on 3 - node RAC
with 16 GB RAM & 4 CPUs each and roughly we have 200 users and night jobs running on this D/W .
We find that query performance of all ETL Processes & joins are quite slow .
How much should we increase the value of hash_area_size parameter for this Datawarehouse environment ? This is a Production database, with Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.5.0.
We use OWB 10g Tool for this D/W and we need to change the hash_area_size to increase the performance of the ETL Processes.
This is the Oracle init parameter settings used, as shown below : -
Kindly suggest ,
Thanks & best regards ,

Pre-Check Completed at Wed Oct 18 21:22:32 2006Hi,
Its good that u pasted the complete log file. In your environment you have to run this upgrade tool only once from any of the middle tier.
And with respect to your error that u got in precheck is quite simple. All u have to do is just run this script from by connecting to portal schema using sqlplus.
Run dropupg.sql
Location-------- /raid/product/OraHome_1/upgrade/temp/portal/prechktmp/dropupg.sql
Later you re-run the upgrade tool and let me know the status.
Good luck

Difficulty running compile APEX RHEL4 on 10G
Hi All
on our dev server in an attempt to Compile APEX 3.1.2 with RHEL4 on 10G 10 SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production on Fri Feb 27 10:13:59 2009
use Apache mod_pl version
I tried to follow from
http://joelkallman.blogspot.com/2009/02/make-all-of-your-apex-applications-run.html
and did this:
column plsql_optimize_level format 999
column plsql_code_type format a20
select count(*), o.object_type, s.plsql_optimize_level, s.plsql_code_type
from dba_objects o, dba_plsql_object_settings s
where o.object_name = s.name
and o.owner = 'FLOWS_030100'
and s.owner = o.owner
group by o.object_type, s.plsql_optimize_level, s.plsql_code_type
order by 2 asc
alter session set plsql_optimize_level = 2;
alter session set plsql_code_type = native;
exec dbms_utility.compile_schema('FLOWS_030100');
Caused errors "missing f" in urls like
.au:4458/pls/apex/f?p=113
I restarted oracle and apache and no change in error
ran the following in sqlplus and all recovered. :) happy about that!
alter session set plsql_optimize_level = 2;
alter session set plsql_code_type = interpreted;
exec dbms_utility.compile_schema('FLOWS_030100');
Is this possible on 10g? if so how?
Thanks
Frank

and I posted this I know not where the first time, and could not see how to move to correct forum.
or which forum I am now posting in, grrr... going to be a long day ....Thanks for your reply, Roel!
I always deeply thanks for your help.
After reading your reply, I found out I missed install HTTP Server.
So I have installed HTTP Server in companion CD and I made the adjustment like marvel.conf and httpd.conf.
But I can't solve my problem yet.
I entered the address - http://127.0.0.1:7777/pls/apex/apex_admin - in the web browser, then
I saw such a like under the message.

Rman with commvault mml: database crash while delete obsolete
Hello!
I have a problem concerning RMAN, delete obsolete and CommVault media management library: Every night at 23:00 we run a RMAN "Backup" to delete the obsolete backup files from tape. Since the update to CommVault agent 8 (from version 7) the database crashes while the delete obsolete command. The normal backup (incremental 0/1) works without problem.
After restarting the database i tried the delete obsolete via shell -> same result: CRASH.
The CommVault support says that there is an Oracle bug with different MML's, that causes this behaviour - but i can't find anything at Metalink.
This is the output of RMAN (tell me which other logs can be helpful):
RMAN-Sperr-Policy wird f³r den Befehl angewendet

Hello ,
we are currently experiencing heavy I/O problmes perfoming prrof of concept
testig for one of our customers. Our setup is as follows:
HP ProLiant DL380 with 24GB Ram and 8 15k 72GB SAS drives
An HP P400 Raid controller with 256MB cache in RAID0 mode was used.
Win 2k8r2 was installed on c (a physical Drive) and the database on E
(= two physical drives in RAID0 128k Strip Size)
With the remaining 5 drives read and write tests were performed using raid 0 with variing number of drives.
I/O performance, as measured with ATTO Disk benchmark, increased as expected linear with the number of drives used.
We expected to see this increased performance in the database, too and performed the following tests:
- with 3 different tables the full table scan (FTS) (Hint: /*+ FULL (s) NOCACHE (s) */)
- a CTAS statement.
The system was used exclusively for testing.
The used tables:
Table 1: 312 col, 12,248 MB, 11,138,561 rows, avg len 621 bytes
Table 2: 159 col, 4288 MB, 5,441,171 rows, avg len 529 bytes
Table 3: 118 col, 360MB, 820,259 rows, avg len 266 bytes
The FTS has improved as expected. With 5 physical drives in a RAID0, a performance of
420MB/s was achieved.
In the write test on the other hand we were not able to archieve any improvement.
The CTAS statement always works with about 5000 - 6000 BLOCK/s (80MB/s)
But when we tried running several CTAS statements in different sessions, the overall speed increased as expected.
Further tests showed that the write speed seems to depend also on the number of columns. 80MB/s were only
possible with Tables 2 and 3. With Table 1, however only 30MB/s were measured.
Is this maybe just an incorrectly set parameter?
What we already tried:
- change the number of db_writer_processes 4 and then to 8
- Manual configuration of PGA and SGA size
- setting DB_BLOCK_SIZE to 16k
- FILESYSTEMIO_OPTIONS set to setall
- checking that Resource Manager are really disabled
Thanks for any help.

If multiple CTAS can produce higher throughput on writes this tells you that it is the production of the data that is the limit, not the writing. Notice in your example that nearly 75% of the time of the CTAS as CPU, not I/O.
The thing about number of columns is that table 1 has exceeded the critical 254 limit - this means Oracle has chained all the rows internally into two pieces; this introduces lots of extra CPU-intensive operations (consistent gets, table access by rowid, heap block compress) so that the CPU time could have gone up significantly, resulting in a lower throughput that you are interpreting as a write problem.
One other thought - if you are currently doing CTAS by "create as select from {real SAP table}" there may be other side effects that you're not going to see. I would do "create test clone of real SAP table", then "create as select from clone" to try and eliminate any such anomalies.

When trying to connect with apps it returns:
SQL> conn apps/apps
ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
when connecting with sys it connects to an idle instance.
Here is the contents of alert log.
