Plug Guitar into SB 5.1 and Rec

What do I need to do to get a semi-acoustic guitar (or any electric guitar) to play through my PC. Ive tried plugging the guitar lead into the SB Line In socket and half expected to hear some sound but no joy. Am I going to need a mixer of some sort (any suggestions?)? Any help appreciated.

Hey fungus,
The level of the signal coming out of your guitar is probably well below line level. It is possible if you have a cheap 'semi-acoustic' that the pickup is actually a little microphone stuffed inside, in which case you will be much better off plugging into the mic in. Whatever guitar you have, try turning everything down, connect to the mic input, then turn it up and see if you can hear the guitar.
The quality may not be all that great doing it this way.
Your other options are to plug the guitar into something which DOES have a line level output (for example, your guitar amp or possibly an effects unit) and then connect that unit to the line in. Basically you are using the unit as a preamp.
Hope that hel
ps.

  • Plugging guitar into new macbook

I recently got a new macbook that does not have an audio input on it. On my old macbook i would usually record my guitar by plugging it into an efect processor and then into the computer via the 1/8 inch input. So now i guess i need to use on of the usb ports. MY questions is will any audio interface or other type of pre-amp allow me to plug into teh usb port (in other words is it just a matter of getting the right cable from the interface to the computer) or do i need a specific type of interface?
    thanks for any suggestions!

it does, it uses the single jack for both IN and OUT, you configure it in system prefs.

any Mac compatible interface will work, they use standard USB cables. you can find some of the most popular ones here:

It can't do that by itself. You had to click through several prompts telling it to restore it from a backup of an old phone for that to happen.
If the phone was not backed up to iCloud before this happened, or to another computer, then the data is gone. There is no way to recover it.

  • My iphone turned off after I got off the phone. It was fully charged and it went black. I plugged it into my wall charger and my computer, but nothing has showed up, its still dead. It was totally fine before. What happened?

My iphone turned off after I got off the phone today. It was more than half way charged and it went totally black. I plugged it into my wall charger and my computer, but nothing has showed up. It doesn't register on the computer either, the charge symbol doesn't appear, and there is no apple logo to be found.  I have no idea what happened! It was totally fine before. I tried charging another ipod with my usb and wall charger to make sure that they were still working, and they weren't the problem. What happened? Is the phone dead for good? I have a 3G if that changes anything. THANKS!

Press and hold both the on/off button and the home button and release them both when the apple logo appears.  That will reboot the phone.  try that.

    No such message occurs.
Are you trying to state that it says "Unable to activate"?
If so, this typically indicates the device has been hacked or jailbroken.  If that is the case, no support can be provided via these forums.

  • Plugging guitar into garageband

I recently purchased an adaptor that goes into my headphone jack so that i could plug my guitar into garageband and record it. How do I adjust the settings so that garageband recognizes the guitar in order to play and record with it.

The headphone jack of your Mac? That's an OUT, not an IN. Use the input jack. (Unless you have a MacBook with a dual purpose jack. In that case I believe you have to set it as IN in System Prefs.)
Then in GarageBand Prefs>Audio/MIDI set the input to the built-in option.

  • Plugging Guitar into Macbook Pro 13'' - Audio Interfaces

Alright, so I've done a fair bit of research but there just seems to be so much to read out there that I figure it may simply be easier to post this here and see what kind of answers I get. Anyway, I want to plug my guitar and record some stuff on my macbook pro (13-inch, core-2 duo) and i'm running Snow Leopard. I'm a pretty seasoned guitar player, but I'm not looking to do the heaviest and most intense recording here, I simply want to be able to decently record some stuff onto my mac. I know with my macbook it has a dual audio input/output jack, but I don't exactly want to plug in through the input though because I want the output going into some speakers, and using the input jack really isn't the greatest (especially when I'm plugging into just an electric guitar). So my options appear to be using an audio interface, but first question is whether or not I should be looking at USB or Fireware connections. Secondly, I read some stuff about the Apogee Jam thing (which is usb) and is reasonably priced, along with M-Audio Fast Track (also usb) and is a little higher priced. Basically I'm looking for something that is reasonably priced (as I'm not professionally recording here) around the $100 range, but produces a pretty solid sound quality, and works fairly well...the best bang for the buck, if you will.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I also have an amp that I could use that has a headphone jack which I can plug the guitar into the amp, and the amp into the computer (but again, it seems as though plugging into the input really is not the greatest call).
    Thanks very much!

I also don't need an audio interface with any additional sound patches, or effects, etc. I have more than enough to do that with my own equipment. So, an audio interface with a lot of effects is definitely not a priority.

  • HT2173 I turned off my desktop to plug it into a surger protector and now I'm not sure how to turn it back on

  • Ipad in recovery mode tells me to plug it into itunes to restore. and error (40) pops up after verifying restore with apple.

My Ipad 2 is in recovery mode it tells me to plug it into itunes to restore.Once I do an error (40) pops up after while verifying restore with apple. I called and they said it was with my norton security so I shut everything off  on norton and tried again but it still comes up with the same thing. Is there anyone that could help please!!

Same thing happened here ~ tech guy at a local authorized Apple repair store said it had something to do with improper backup from which the restore would be made. Still have a phone that asks to be connected to Itunes but won't do anything else . . . frustrated.

  • Recommended audio interface to plug guitar into Garageband.

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with latest Yosemite update. I'm trying to learn how to use Garageband. If I use a USB guitar lead I get a terrible howling beeping noise when "monitor" or recording. It is a new good quality USB Guitar lead. I don't think it is faulty. Is there anything I can do to quiet down the cacaphony?Internet research says I need an audio interface, either USB or Firewire. The USB is obvious but I don't quite know what to use the Thunderbolt ports for (I've never used them whatsoever).
If any Garageband guitarists guru can point me in the right direction on what to do here I'd be grateful.

Thank you isteveus for your reply.
I can confirm that I am using the "USB PnP sound device" input as the recording device, as I go into the Garageband preferences I  select that and the output as either "system settings " or "built-in output".
The noise is there with headphones or without and with the lead plugged into the guitar or not. I can remove the noise by playing with various volume controls on the amp models but then I can't hear anything. I've also tried running the guitar through a small mixing desk and then using the usb lead from the mixer into the computer but to no effect, howling beeping feedback is still there.
    Thank you for your help

  • Iphone turned off whilst plugging it into a docking station and now wont turn on

    Hi everyone.
So i plugged my Iphone into a docking station to play the radio last night and it completely turned off and now wont turn back on.
    I have done the following:
    12hour wall charging
    Computer connected
    All resets done.
Still nothing. Anyone shed any light? I'm going crazy!
    Thanks

Connect iPhone to Wall Charger and Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to start. Usually takes 20 seconds of holding both buttons.
