Plug-in 1.4 uninstalled (not)

I still get an error message from the Java Plug-in 1.4 when trying to run an applet that requires 1.3.1_08, even though I've completely removed JDK 1.4 from my system (Windows 2000 SP3). I still have JRE 1.3.1_08 (JRE only), and JDK 1.3.1_09 installed. Additionally, Oracle has placed a copy of JDK 1.3.1_01 my system as part of its client software. The error message reads:
"Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4 Fatal Error"
Java Plug-in 1.3.1_01 cannot be located because values in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\1.3.1_01 is not found or is no longer valid.
1. Why does the plug-in seem to think that I still have JDK 1.4 installed? Where does the message come from.
2. I cannot find the string "1.3.1_01" anywhere in the registry. Why is it looking for it.
In any case, this is much more frustrating than "DLL hell". At times I've had to have upwards of three separate minor versions of 1.2.2 and 1.3.1 due to vendors requiring specific minor versions. So much for write once, run anywhere.

This is of course due to the Oracle installation.
The installer adds entry to the "path" environment variable such as:
C:\oracle\ora90\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin
In front of them add the path to your JRE/JSE bin path like:
C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_03\bin;

Kaz

I just installed OSX Mountian Lion, and ever since then I can not play youtube video's. I get the message of 'Blocked Plug-in' in the youtube screen. I have tried installing Adobe Flash Player. HTML 5, also tried enabling/disabling java, but nothing worked out. Is there any way I can play youtbe vieos on Safar. (It works fine with Google Chrmoe, only safari has problem)

If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
Try uninstalling the currently installled Flash plugin (required for most YouTube content) then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
From your Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from the menu bar click Develop > Empty Caches

how can I delete plug-ins that I do not use anymore?

Uninstall them by deleting them from the Library:
The plug-ins usually are installed in the Applications Support Folder -> Aperture -> Plug-Ins, either in your your User Library or in the System Library:
    your home folder/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/

  • Decided to update iphone 4 to ios 5.1 and mid update it froze and the screen is black.  Phone does not respond to any combinations of home and power buttons, when plugged into computer it does not see it is plugged in, any ideas?

Decided to update iphone 4 to ios 5.1 and mid update it froze and the screen is black.  Phone does not respond to any combinations of home and power buttons, when plugged into computer it does not see it is plugged in so I cannot restore or anything.  Looks like the screen is on it's just unresponsive and black obviously.  Has anyone had this problem?  I was updating via wifi right in front of my router and my computer.

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department.  Her suggestions:  change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers.  So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue.  It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more.  Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department.  Make them aware of this problem!

It seems to me that the connection port is faulty.

My iPad is not being recognized by the computer, therefore, cannot sync.  It charges when plugged to the wall, but not when pugged to iMac.

Most common culprits include the cable. Try swapping it out for a different one.. or not having the most recent version of itunes. I once even solved this problem by shutting down the computer for 2 minutes. (the longer the better), with the ipad plugged in. starting it up... then itunes recognizes it, launches, and syncs.
Apple has a troubleshooting assistant on this topic:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
It will advise you to reboot. I recommend shutting down instead.

P.S The ipad should charge when asleep and plugged into your Mac. The charging behavior is normal. There isn't enough power out the USB ports to charge the ipad while it is on on some older Macs and nearly all PCs.

  • Should  I leave my macbook plugged in when I'm not using it?

Should I leave my macbook charging cable plugged in when I'm not using it?

It won't hurt anything (i.e., it won't overcharge). It isn't a good idea to leave it plugged in 100% of the time. One common recommendation is to use the battery at least one cycle per month without ever deeply discharging it. Ways to do that would be to use it on battery power until it is discharged to 50% twice during a month or to 80% 5 times during a month or some other combination that adds up to roughly 100% usage once per month at a minimum. Another way of stating that is that you should use the battery sometimes.

  • Uninstall will not work: "uninstall not successful"

I am attempting to uninstall Adobe Reader for Android from my htc droid incredible running Android 2.2. I receive a message "uninstall not successful". Alternately, I would be able to solve the problem if Adobe Reader would allow me to remove the default property so that another application can be used to view pdf files, but that option is not available either.

    Hi,
This is unlikely to be an Adobe Reader application issue, but we would appreciate more details so we can try and help.  Please share screenshots if possible, or more details steps and errors you're running into.
Regarding the default handling - again, that's a system setting, and you can change that by using the options in Android Settings.

    Absolutely!
If you are taking your $500 electronic device to the beach, I recommend you get a case that completely seals the iPhone from the elements (ie. waterproof).

It is not a good idea, to manually delete registry keys. Java uninstaller removes all registry entries that are needed to perform clean future installation.
You might see some of the keys not removed by Java unistaller but they do not prevent any user from doing fresh installation of Java in future.
Java removal tool is currently being developed, but that is for removing old/unsecure and unsupported Java versions. The tool isn't really intended to remove current/above security baseline versions of Java.
Also, the tool does a standard un-install using msiexec /x. It won't specifically delete registry keys - it lets msiexec do it.
