Plug in 30gb video ipod Recognised in iTunes as a Silver ipod mini.

this other day liek a week ago i plug in my ipod video 30GB with software 1.1.2 and iTunes recognises it as a Silver iPod mini.. so then when it finishes updating as an iPod mini i have no more videos/photos/song photos/etc. but when i re-plug it its ok..

If everything is working fine now, I wouldn't worry about it. If it happens again, post back.
A glitch can occur when iTunes reads the iPod and cause this. It can be because of a bad USB port, an older version of iTunes, a USB hub, etc.

  • I have a 5th gen iPod, and I can't get it to be recognised by itunes, and the actual ipod does no load frther than the apple logo before turning itself back off. Is there anything I can try?

It is refurbished and looks to be in perfect condition and was bought from the apple store, including box and serial number. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.
    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

  • Ne 5th gen IPod getting msg "Itunes has detected an IPod in recovery mode"

I purchased a new IPOD - have a 3 gen one as well. The people at the store said I could use both the old one and the new one on the same PC. But when I plug the new one in I get the message "Itunes has dtected an IPod in recover mode"
I looked throught the discussions and saw where the IPod drive letter may need to be changed. The problem is the IPod is not in the list of external drives.
I have another PC where I copied the music to and it works there - but not on the PC where the old IPod was used on.
    Any ideas?

I too have a 30GB 5G iPod that crashes my computer. It is not recognized by XP and is not recognized by iTunes either. I changed USB ports, tried the Updater (Updater never worked since the computer did not recognize the iPod), uninstalled/reinstalled iTtunes, rolled back the registry to several days earlier, disabled antivirus software, etc. I have so much practice resetting the iPod I can now do it blindfolded. I have also tried the iPod on another computer with exactly the same results, but an iPod Nano works flawlessly. There seems to be no other remedy except to send the thing back but the Apple phones are jammed and I can't get through.
A quick search of this forum shows many other similar problems with 5th genertion iPods. What a disappointing purchase!!

  • Help - My 5th Generation Ipod not recognised by ITunes but 1st Gen Ipod is!

Can anyone help? This is driving me mad!
I recently purchased a 5th Generation 80gb Ipod. Before installing to my PC I downloaded the latest 7.2 version of ITunes together with quicktime. However whenever I plug my new Ipod in, nothing happens other than the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' appearing in XP asking for the driver to be installed and the Ipod Charging/displaying that it is fully charged.
I have spent hours going through the apple site and following their suggestions on this and have done the following:
    Re-started the iPod service
Uninstalled and re-installed ITunes 7.2 (at least 5 times now!)
Deleted all my temporary folders and temp internet folders and cleared cookies, files, etc
Ran Windows Install Cleanup Utility to clean up any leftover installer files
Tried the Ipod in all of my USB 1 & 2 ports (My MESH PC is less than a year old)
I then contacted Apple Support who suggested I try my Ipod on another computer and if it didn't work to return it to them. So I duly installed iTunes (7.2) on my laptop at work and hey presto my Ipod was recognised and I was able to download a few tunes.
I glean from this that there can't be a fault with the Ipod itself??
Back at home I re- tried all of the things above and then after still no joy I connected my old 1st generation ipod to my pc and after some time ( at least 5 minutes) iTunes recognised the old ipod and syncronised. Using the same USB Port and the same cable I plugged in the new Ipod but still nothing happened other than being asked to install the driver once again!
Now all would be fine if I kept my music collection on my work laptop but unfortunately this is not possible and I could even get into serious trouble for having iTunes on there.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be really grateful as £200+ is a lot of money to pay for something that does not work!

The "driver" never was available from Apple. The driver files that Windows uses to communicate with an iPod are standard Windows OS drivers for a USB Mass Storage Device. If Windows cannot/does not recognize your iPod at all, not even at the driver level, it's likely an OS issue, unless the iPod fails to work on another computer as well. At that point you'd been dealing with a bad cable or bad iPod. Since another iPod works with the same cable, then it should be fine.
Try everything in this article that you haven't already tried:

  • 30gb Video error message "Attempting to copy to disk "Ipod" failed.

I have a 30gb ipod video and over the past day it is come up with this error message when I have tried to put songs from itunes into it. "Attempting to copy to disk "Ipod" failed. This disc could not be read from or written to". I've tried restarting it with no joy, I've evne tried resetting it back to it's factory settings now and nothing. Right now the Ipod had no songs on it can not even in use due to this. It was all fine till I updated to the lastest Itunes. Anyone out ther no whats wrong?

I have and 80gb Classic and Im getting the same message now it just started last night when i was syncing some new podcasts now everything that was on my ipod is gone and it acts like its syncing then i disconnect and its all gone I've reset and restored default settings nothing works

  • HT1923 I can no longer get my ipod recognised by itunes on my PC

I bought an IPOD classic about 4 years ago.  until now, no problem connecting with iTunes on my PC.
Today i have tried to download new music from my PC but this was unsuccessful.  My Ipod indicates it *IS* connested to the PC and *IS* charging.  But itunes on my PC does not show the ipod.  using "Diagnostics" on iTunes help, the device sync and device connectivity tests have both failed.
    can you help?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this has not worked. I didn't have quicktime to begin with so I don't know if that makes a difference? After following the instructions, I get the "registry keys missing" problem appear again (which I've subsequently fixed again) and then when I connected the ipod I got the following message - 'Device driver software was not successfully installed'.
I've tried windows update but this doesn't do anything as '...the service is not running'.
    Any suggestions?

  • My ipod classic is in disk mode and i dont know how to put it in its original state becuase it says use itunes to restore but i plug it in to the usb but itunes dont display my ipod.

i dont know what to do

did you try to do a soft reset?
Press MENU and the SELECT buttons simultaneously for over 10 sec.
    It should reset itself.
Then, if youc onnect it to your computer, does iTUnes recognize it?

  • [iPod 60GB and iTunes] Phantom Songs on iPod?

I am using the latest version of iTunes with a 60GB video iPod. iTunes is set to automatically update all files and folders when the iPod is plugged in and that setting has never changed. Just recently though, I've noticed that the iPod is skipping a lot of the songs that are listed as being on the unit. (i.e. I'll have the iPod set to shuffle all the songs and, in the course of an hour long commute, hear 12 - 15 songs, yet the iPod is showing that it's gone through about 90 songs. It's like it's skipping over them entirly even though they should be there.
I've double checked and the songs exist in iTunes. They play without a problem in iTunes. I've tried resetting the iPod. I've also deleted all of the songs (all 50GB of them) and transferring them all over again and I'm still having the same problem. It isn't always the same songs either. Every time I plug the iPod into the computer to charge, it seems like some songs that were there before are now gone and some that were gone are now there again.
Why isn't the iPod updating properly? Why do I have so many songs (a number of them are favourites of mine that I want to listen to) that I can't hear because even though they're listed as being in the library on the iPod, the iPod won't play them?

Regarding the files not been played it might be a format problem you can try converting one and if that works convert the rest heres a link for a converter

  • Ipod recognised by windows but not as ipod?

    Hi!
I have recently got a shiny new 60gb ipod but can't get it to work on my pc!
Itunes won't recognise it but I can find it listed as removable disk under e drive in my computer...
    Can anyone help!?!

Change the drive letter to something higher, like M.

  • I tried to change the name of my device and now I cant sync anything and it says there is a problem with the disk and when I changed the name back it still said the same thing so I restored my ipod (not from itunes but on the ipod itsself)

And now its saying my ipod is corrupt. None of my stuff was erased from itunes it was only erased from my ipod so why am I not able to just sync everything back onto my ipod? why is it doing this now? I think this is ridiculous that just changing one name would do this much damage.

There is a backup plan after doing the Restore.  Read this.
