Plug-in information in Linux
Hi,
I am looking for plug-in information for LabVIEW in Linux as we are getting an error "Unsupported Item, The plug-in for the selcted item is not installed on your system or plug-in has expired License". The thing is we could not be able to see the Build -> Installer option on the project file. We do have Licensed version of Professional Development System and hopefully haven't excedded the allowed number of Installation of LabVIEW 8.6.
Please do help me.
Thanks in Advance,
Vivek
Solved!
Go to Solution.
Hi Dennis,
Thnaks for your support. Now I came to know absence of Installer option in Linux OS. What we can try is we create an Application to deploy the code.
Thanks,
Vivek

Memory hot plug supported in Oracle linux 6.0 ?
hi,
I am testing Oracle Linux 6.0 on a vm, I tried to hot add memory, but i noticed that the respective modules like acpiphp and acpi_memhotplug not present.
Also i got the below information from the site, http://blogs.oracle.com/wim/2010/10/playing_with_sr_iov_in_oracle.html
"----------To enable pci hotplug in the guest, please do the following :
in the guest you have to load both pciehp and acpiphp
you can do this easily by doing :
**echo "modprobe pciehp" >> /etc/rc.modules
echo "modprobe acpiphp" >> /etc/rc.modules
chmod 755 /etc/rc.modules**
note - this is for testing purposes only. We do not currently have official support in the product for this.--------".
I tried doing the above mentioned procedure, then also the mem-hot plug is not working.
So I feel mem-hot plug is not supported.
Can any oone confirm me about this.

Failed to load database information in linux
Hi,
I installed crystal report server 2008 v1 in suse linux 10 (64 bit). I designed report in windows by using crystal report developer edition XI.
When i try to view the report in crystal report server 2008 v1 in suse linux error like "Failed to load database information"
We are using oracle 10g which is running in another linux machine with in the network. We dont insalled oracle client in suse linux 10.
Please help me to resolve this.Hi
First make sure that You have installed/mounted Oracle 10g client on Suse linux machine where you have crystal report server 2008 v1
if you plan to install 64-bit oracle 10g client then in LD_LIBRARY_PATH make sure to point to "lib32", as you need 32-bit lib files to refresh your report

Iq messagelog information in linux system messages file
Hi All
I have a strange problem which started this weekend. One production query node is suddenly duplicating all information in the /var/log/messages file on REL Linux. This is IQ 15.4 . Does not happen on any other node.
I have switched off query plan but there is still a lot of information being duplicated.
The SysAdmins are on my back due to the space usage of this file
Tia
Johan BornmanAs I mentioned earlier as well, you can stop writing message to OS log /var/adm/messages by starting IQ server with -s none.
I try to replicate control-c issue, where issuing control-c to tail -f messagelog , makes IQ server stop logging messages to the messagelog. In my test, it still keep on logging messages to the messagelog.

+1 917 699 4699Hi Brandon,
I'm wondering if your SAP Server realy is running on the 'localhost'? Don't you work on a seperate machine? Try the MDK-config with the server name of your SAP server, e.g.: ME SERVER NAME: sapserver or so (in case you're working on a different machine)
With that your browser should display the page.

KarthikRather than paying for Red Hat, why not use Oracle Linux? You want 5.5 or 5.7. Not 6, as it is not certified with Oracle products.
Where are you going to be installing Linux? Bare metal (physical installation) or virtual, using either VMware or VirtualBox? I'm running several Oracle Linux servers under VMworksation 7.1. There are some difficulties getting VMware tools to install on Linux 5.7, so I continue to use 5.5, which is fine for my purposes, and should be for yours as well.
As for necessary steps .. the installation guide for all Oracle products is found with the rest of the doc set at tahiti.oracle.com (that is, all oracle DB and related products. I've not seen an installation guide for Linux itself, but maybe it's been so long since I needed one that I've forgotten.
As for installing linux itself, it's pretty straight forward. Since I'm installing as a server, I do NOT run the gui desktop installation. You'll also need to think how you want to handle your networking, if installing a virtual machine. You'll need to decide if you want pass-through (your virtual machine appears on the real network - probably NOT what you want), NAT (your virtual machine has an IP known only to the host os - allows you to access the internet, but other machines can't see you), or host-only. You definitely want a fixed IP. Given the way VirtualBox handles networking, I never could get it to work with NAT and and fixed IP, so I use VMware in spite of the cost.
There is a unix forum on this board which will be the place to get help installing and configuring the OS.

Sap Netweaver 4.0 testdrive on linux - impossible to connect from sapgui
Hi guys,
i've just finished to install the NW40 testdrive on a linux box, based on Redhat 9.0 distro (as requested by the equirements). At the end of installation, i have two boxes
One box with winxp sp1 called Darkstar with i.p. 192.168.100.1 and Subnet mask 255.255.0.0
The second box (with linux and NW40) called Darkmoon (prob. i was too bored to think a completly different name ) with i.p. 192.168.100.15 and subnet mask 255.255.0.0
The /etc/hosts file of the linux box contain these entries :
127.0.0.1 Darkmoon
192.168.100.15 Darkmoon.locadomain.ext
195.155.155.1 nw4host
The last line was taked from other posts found in SDN forum. I followed all the install steps and the db and the instances going-up very well, without any problem.
If i ping the two boxes, they reply each-others (from winxp to linux and vice-versa).
The "hostname" command in the linux box, return only "Darkmoon" as request by installation steps.
Now the problem.
On the winxp box i have installed sapgui 6.20. In it, I've created an entry with these information:
Description : Linux box
Application server : 192.168.100.15
System number : 00
When i try to connect with double clink on that entry, i have the following error :
Partner not reached (host 192.168.100.15, service sapdp00)
Component NI (Network interface)
Release 6.20
Ver 36
Return code -10
System call SO_ERROR
Error text : WSACONNREFUSED
Seems the boxes don't see between them.
Could be a hosts file problem on linux box???
Someone of u could give me some help ??
Could be very unhappy couln't use NW40 just for a little error.
Thx a lot for all your hints and suggestions
AndreaHi Gregor,
thx a lot for your interest in my problem.
The firts answer is yes, i've started the instance with the command "startsap", and the instance comes up.
I can see the processed with ps -ef .
Here the log of ifconfig :

Another thing .
The command traceroute in each box works, and shows the right path.
Thx a lot for every information u would give me .

Linux 3.12 and streaming media on a Dell XPS 13: kernel panic
Hi all,
Shortly after upgrading from Linux 3.11.6 to 3.12, I started getting kernel panics while playing streaming media (in particular from Youtube and The Daily Show). Here is a camera shot. The crash would not take place immediatly, but perhaps after 15 minutes of streaming. After downgrading to Linux 3.11.6 everything works fine. Therefore, it is clear to me that the issue is related to the Linux 3.12 kernel, but this is all I know.
The fifth-to-last line from the camera shot reads:
[11438.332699] RIP [<ffffffff8129e160>] __sg_page_iter_start+0x20/0x20
A quick Google search reveals that __sg_page_iter_start is a function inside the scatterlist.h library in the Linux kernel, which apparently deals with memory paging, but my knowledge about this stuff is so poor that the message is almost meaningless. I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me a hint about this.
I did not find anything useful in the journal, but here are the last few journal lines for 2 different crash instances:

In the first journal log, the following line calls my attention:
Nov 15 00:26:02 xps kernel: perf samples too long (2530 > 2500), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50100
However, this seems to be a normal occurrence after playing games (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=170471), so I would guess this is not related to the kernel panic.

Hopefully this should be sufficient information, I've linked to this thread too. I've also mentioned I'm willing to beam one at someone from Amazon, with 2-day shipping to the USA the Pluggable branded adapter is just under NZD$40, which I can easily live with.
===========================================================================================================
USB3 gigabit ethernet adapters with the ASIX AX88179 chipset (LevelOne USB0401-V3, Plugable USB3-E1000, SIIG JU-NE0211-S1 and others) are experiencing kernel panics in usb_hcd_map_urb_for_dma since 3.12. The issue does not seem to directly correlate with low or high network activity, occurring seemingly at random. Some panics occurred less than 5 minutes from boot and tens of megabytes of network transfer, while on other occasions it would be stable for multiple days with tens to hundreds of gigabytes of line-rate throughput and several sleep/resume cycles.
Both my Sony Vaio Pro 13 and another user reporting this issue on the Arch forums [1] are Intel-based, my USB controller is an 8086:9c31 (Lynx Point LP), the other is reported as a C210/7 series (unknown PID). A third with a Haswell Dell XPS has attempted my workaround and reports similar success.
I have a mediocre quality photo of my laptop's screen from one of these panics [2], the call trace - which is similar but not identical between my machine and that of the other user reporting the issue - is as follows:

So far as I can tell, the driver is unaffected as late as 3.11.6, but problematic as of 3.12 (and still affected in 3.13-rc5). The history of drivers/net/usb/ax88179_178a.c for this time period yields this patch, which at least in my somewhat limited understanding appeared a likely candidate. I've reverted this on my system - against several linux-next builds from the last 3-4 weeks - and have had no issues with this network controller since.
commit 3804fad45411b48233b48003e33a78f290d227c8
Author: Ming Lei <[email protected]>
Date: Thu Aug 8 21:48:25 2013 +0800
USBNET: ax88179_178a: enable tso if usb host supports sg dma
This patch enables 'can_dma_sg' flag for ax88179_178a device
if the attached host controller supports building packet from
discontinuous buffers(DMA SG is possible), so TSO can be enabled
and skb fragment buffers can be passed to usb stack via urb->sg
directly.
With the patch, system CPU utilization decreased ~50% and throughput
increased by ~10% when doing iperf client test on one ARM A15 dual
core board.

Unfortunately I have not retained the built kernel from a broken 3.12 build, so the system information below reflects the patched linux-next kernel I am running currently.
I understand this may be a somewhat obscure piece of hardware, I am willing to assist by drop-shipping one to someone from Amazon (or local country equivalent if the price is not extortionate) should it be required.

Iphone 3g won't sync, but sees power when plugged in.
Iphone 3g, running 2.1 - will not sync. Have tried three computers, three cables, include my PBook 15, fully current - that works fine with my phone and has also sync'ed with this phone in the past. Also, tried Windows XP, and Windows Vista-64 - which had worked in the past too. When plugged in - the phone starts charging but no itunes recognition on any of the systems. DFU mode - nothing. Resets, nothing. Complete reinstalls of itunes - nothing. Seems like this is an actual, real life, hardware problem in this phone unless there is another magic reset. I've examined the connector under high magnification - seems to be undamaged and clean.
Any ideas? About to move on to Applecare.
tnx

try{
while((incomingMessage = reader.readLine()) != null){
catch(Exception e){
System.out.println(e);
} //serverthis is a client-server program, why in Windows it(server) throw the Exception when the client closes the program o the socket? and it doesnt throw any exception in Linux(ubuntu feisty/dapper) ??????

at Service.run(Service.java:37)is this could be considered a bug??? i hope java can throw the same exception in Linux too, cause this helps to check the statu of socket connection. thanksThe following is mostly an educated guess, but it is based in some understanding of how the different OSs work.
In linux sockets are handled by the driver(read: kernel part) that converts the actions on file descriptors to actions on network sockets. When a program shuts down, said driver continues to run, but receives a close request on the file descriptor, so it proceeds with a standard socket close.
On windows, the sockets are the property of the program, not the network driver, and when the program shuts down the sockets simply abort as they are discarded. The network driver is not allowed to temporarily hold the socket until its operation completes. They are simply thrown away.
Anyway, a proper solution that would be helpful for all OSs is to actually close the socket within the program, rather than hope the OS has a "garbage collector" for sockets. The same applies for all OS resources(files, pipes, GUI resources, etc). On certain OSs, certain resources may actually remain allocated after program shutdown, if not formally disposed.
On a side note, socket libraries for windows usually support socket auto-close on disposing of the socket object. I'm surprised the Java library doesn't (seem to) follow the same pattern. Then again, I've seen programs(non-java, of course) cause system freezes over stuff like that. -
Bash and Linux infrastructure references
Hi,
after 3 years using Linux I would like to improve my knowledge of bash to start writing some useful scripts which can make my life easier. Do you know any good manual (better if available online) which I can use to start learning it?
I'm not particularly "bash savvy", I've simply used it quite often on my Arch Linux experience, but I would describe myself as a beginner.
Moreover, if you have any other reference about Linux architecture will be appreciated. I've always struggle to understand some manual intervention Arch Linux require from time to time. Simply copy commands developers suggest us is quite annoying. After all this time I think is the right moment to become an intermediate Linux user.
Cheers,
GianlucaLinux From Scratch is a good way to learn Linux and all the things necessary to make a distribution.
Other good learning references I know of require some knowledge of C and might be overkill for you:
-The Linux Programming Interface : Although really aiming at developpers each chapter contain very valuable information about Linux architecture, ... It's a book you need to buy and it's relatively expensive.
-Computer Science from the Bottom Up : Free online course which goes really close to the metal. -
LINUX Adobe Flash Player and MINI-DV CAM
Hello,
I Have Mini-DV camcoder Sony DCR-TRV130 connected with my PC
over FireWire cable.
I have installed Linux Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on my Desktop PC.
Also i use FireFox version 2.0.0.3.
I have installed adobe flash player (plugin for FireFox)
version 9,0,31,0
My Mini-DV Sony Cam works with some software like Kino and
others but Adobe flash player don't want to recognise my CAMERA.
Example here:
http://www.ubuntu-rs.org/forum/viewthread.php?action=attachment&tid=1557&pid=14409
If i connect some other webcam like Intel adobe flash player
works just fine
http://www.ubuntu-rs.org/forum/viewthread.php?action=attachment&tid=1557&pid=14424
On Windows XP my Mini-DV cam works just fine too!!
http://www.ubuntu-rs.org/forum/viewthread.php?action=attachment&tid=1557&pid=14406
On Windows i use same version of FireFox and adobe plugin
version 9,0,28,0
ANY COMMENT ARE WELCOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP OR ANY HINT!!
THANKS!!A little late for the original questioner, but here's the
explanation.
In Linux Webcams and TV-capture cards use the Video 4 Linux
API (application programming interface) to detect, configure, and
use those devices. They appear as devices named /dev/video? - where
? is some number. USB webcams use the USB Video Class (UVC) driver,
or a device-specific driver that handles the USB device and makes
it available as a V4L device.
DV camcorders using IEEE-1394 aka Firewire aka i.Link use the
/dev/video1394 or /dev/raw1394 device interfaces which handle all
sorts of Firewire devices, not just cameras. So far no one has
created a generic IEEE1394 <> Video 4 Linux bridge like the
UVC driver and therefore DV cameras aren't available to
applications that only look for Video 4 Linux devices. There is a
hint of this support being at least planned.
For more information on Linux IEEE-1394 support see:
