Plug in the macbook will affect the battery life ?

is it true that it's not recommended to keep my macbook plugged in all the time while I'm using it ? will that help or kill the battery ?

I believe this is incorrect.  On Macs with non-removeable batteries, keeping it plugged in will not affect battery life/performance as long as you run it on battery 1-2 times per month to around 40%.

MacBook Pro just shut down without notice. It had about 40% of the battery life. It will not turn back on and I noticed when plugged in the little light on the power cord is blinking orange, not a solid green like normal.  Anyone have this issue before?  I've only had this for about 3mos.  I called apple support. They tried one thing then said I have to take to the apple store. Unfortunately I don't have one nearby. So before I travel an hour+ away I thought is give it a shot on here. Thank.

    Hi S,
Did they have you try an SMC Reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?

  • If i download CAD software how will it affect my battery life and macbook speed?

If i download CAD software how will it affect my battery life and computer speed?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
CAD software requires the best CPU and GPU performance, so your battery life will be affected while running CAD apps. The same will happen with your computer performance with other apps, so if you do not need any application while using CAD apps, it is better to close them.
However, your battery life and your computer performance will be the same if they are closed. The only exception would be if your MacBook's hard drive is running out of free space

I upgraded my macbook pro from OS Lion to OS Mavericks. When unplugged, it heats up exceedingly and the battery life is extremely short. What to do?

Installation of the new OSX is very heavy hdd load, in addition spotlight reindexes all the files on your computer - it may be a few hours. If in the future will be the same macbook hot, you should contact your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider.
May be required to clean notebook cooling system.
You can also install any monitoring utility sensors to your mac  such as Hardware Monitor  and look at the value of the temperature sensors.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It is a good idea to run the new MBP through several calibration cycles, instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
The calibration helps your computer know when the battery really is low, otherwise it will keep more charge available than it needs to when it shuts down so that it doesn't have to shut off after going to sleep.
Here's another article about helping the MBP last longer when running on battery:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3557
Apple says this about their battery life claims:
    About Apple battery life claims
Published battery life is based on a light duty test that involves wirelessly browsing various websites and editing text in a word processing document with display brightness set to the middle setting.
The more intensive the usage of a computer, the faster the battery will drain. For example, while a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) used as described above can get up to 9 Hours of battery life, the same MacBook Pro computer continuously playing DVD movies with the display set to full brightness will drain the battery more quickly.
Hopefully this will help you get more enjoyment out of your computer.
    Best wishes. Joel.

  • Does the upgraded MBA 11'' from 1.4Ghz to 1.6Ghz affect the battery life?

Im looking into buying 11'' MBA and i still cant deside if i should upgrade the CPU.
Surely i will upgrade the RAM to 4GB.
But Apple Store staff adviced me that if i upgrade CPU to 1.6Ghz it may reduce the battery life from promised 5hrs to around 4.5hrs... Is that true? Personally i think that is maybe not really true, cuz normally any OS have an option to control and set up a limit of the CPU performance and frequency speed in regards to manage the baterry life... it even can be adjusted either manually or automatically.. am i right? And actually if you dont use CPU intensive programs so it won't consume more power, right? And even in such case also you can set the limit of the CPU performance to save the battery...
So does the upgraded CPU affect the battery life or not ?
And another matter - will the upgraded CPU get overheating sometimes and will it be "throttled" to control overheating ? as i heard...

Higher GHz = More Power = Lower Battery Life
Personally i think that is maybe not really true, cuz normally any OS have an option to control and set up a limit of the CPU performance and frequency speed in regards to manage the baterry life...
And actually if you dont use CPU intensive programs so it won't consume more power, right? And even in such case also you can set the limit of the CPU performance to save the battery...
If that were true, then why pay the xtra $100 for 1.6 GHz???
So does the upgraded CPU affect the battery life or not ?
    Yes

i would like to know if using a auto charger on my iPhone 6plus will reduce the battery life or cause any other issues with my phone.

An alternative is to use a 12v USB power plug and then just use the standard lightning  cable to connect with a length of your choice ( to some degree)
Same rules apply use a premium manufacturer rather than a cheap no-name from eBay

  • Does the backlight affect the battery life? & new update problems...?

i've been told that affects the battery life and i like mine bright but if it affects battery i will keep it down..
and does anyone else notice that the new update is glitchy? or is this just me..?

When did you purchase it and how much memory does it have? Does it have volume buttons on the side? Is the black plastic antenna window on the back oval, or is it square and cover the corner of the iPod?

  • What should the battery life on my 13" Macbook air be?

I have a 13" macbook air (mid 2012) and the battery life is around 2.5 to 3 hours.  I know after a while the strength of the battery diminishes but should i only be getting about 2.5 hours?  I am still under apple care till 2015 should I have apple look at it and repair/replace battery?  I know on the newer 13" models the battery is 12 hours (new processor and chips) but still shouldn't my battery last longer than 2.5 hours?

It should get a great dea; ,pre tjam 2 1/2 hours. First a question. Is this the actual amount of time you are getting or is it the estimate provided by the battery menulette icon? The estimate is often very wrong.
But assuming this is actual battery life, the first thing to do is run the Activity monitor, click on the CPU tab, and then click on the % CPU column so the little triangle is pointing down. This will give you a list of all the processes your computer is running and at the top of the list you'll see the ones that are taking up the most power. Also, if your Dock is hidden, temporarily unhide it. Now click and hold the mouse button on the Activity Monitor icon in the Dock. You'll get a little menu. Select Dock iCon and then CPU Usage. This icon will give you blue bars for each CPU core. Lots of blue means high CPU usage and lots of grey means low CPU usage.
As you use your computer keep an eye on the AM icon. If your battery problem is due to high CPU usage you'll see the bars in the AM icon showing lots of blue frequently. It may be due to the program(s) you are using. For example, VMWare and Windows 8 are battery killers. So are 3D games. But if you are word processing, checking email, etc you shouldn't see more than a glimmer of blue most of the time.
If it turns out you don't have high CPU useage the problem could be the battery and that means a trip to the Apple store.

  • Why is the battery life of my brand new Macbook Pro 15 inch only 3 hours 40 minutes on a full charge?

Only thing running on it is Chrome, and the battery life is only 3:38. Am I doing anything wrong?

It also depends upon what you are doing on Chrome.  Video and flash will eat up battery life.  You are probably doing nothing wrong.
You might open Activity Monitor and see what applications are taking a lot of CPU%.  Make certain that you have selected 'All Processes".
    Ciao.

''Well When i plug in my ipod touch the battery life is low..i let it sit a wyhle. And it starts up to the apple logo and it stay there some time then it restartsback over to the very low battery and repeat(Over&Over)

Can you reset the device by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here: iOS: Unable to restore

  • If you use your iPod Touch while its charging, will it ruin the battery life/battery?

I have an iPod Touch 5th gen. and people say that if you use your iPod/iPhone while its charging, the battery life will deacrease or the battery will be ruined/shot

However, you should almost fully discharge and fully charge the battery monthly otherwise you will degrade the battery.

  • Will Windows 7 via Bootcamp decrease the battery life or speed when running OSX?

I know that when Windows 7 is running my battery life will decrease dramatically, but I am curious is I need to worry about battery life when running OSX, or even the speed of my notebook.
    Kyle

No need to worry, Bootcamp is a separate bootable partition and OS X isn't even running, the two operating systems have nothing to do with each other.
Now if you run Windows in OS X using virtual machine software, it's very much possible the extra CPU load could shorten the battery life as your running two operating systems at once and virtual machine software in addition to other software running.
However it's much safer, easier and more convenient than the hassles of Bootcamp and handling malware infections there, as OS X is always in control of the hardware.

i have seen many other threads about this, but i just want to know if anyone has found a fix that actually works? or do i just need to wait for apple to send a fix in their next update?

Suppose you elaborate on what you are doing with the MBP that makes the battery life terrible.
