Plug-in to grayscale photos

Hello,
Our clients always send us graphic rich PDF's in colour that they wanted printed in Grayscale.
I am looking for a plug-in that will convert either a whole PDF document, page or selected photos into grey from RGB or CMYK.
However, I am looking for something that will use Photoshop's Grey Gamma 1.8 or 2.2.
Quite a Box of Tricks and Pitstop are the most amazing tools but perhaps I am missing something as if I use either of these plug-ins to carry out this particular task then I don't appear to have any control over the conversion and the photos nearly always come out too dark - especially those converted from CMYK.
Instead I have to open each photo in Photoshop (using the image touch up tool) and convert from there.
It is time consuming but I get an excellent result and I'm just looking for a way to speed things up.
Many thanks
Russ Jones

Hi Richard,
I will take a look at your suggestion. I am looking at ÜberUpload for Aperture 2.0.1.
I am also wondering if I could use Automator to automatize the photos transfers from my laptop to Mac Pro. I am kinda new to Automator, though.
Thanks again for all you do, Richard.
Have a great day, Brian

  • Is there a Plug-IN for Kodak Photo CD

I have 7 old Kodak Photo CD's that I want to download to My Pictures. I have done it, in using Flicker to  that program but, cannot download to the "C" Drive ?
    ANY IDEAS.?
AFTER 20 YEARS THE QUALITY IS QUITE IMPRESSIVE ?
Thanks, I have checked out the plug -ins fron Kodak but, they do not work on a i7 64 bit system ?

    Thanks R_Kelly,
I was fiddling with 512 x 768 originally because of the high cost back 20 years , but, nevertheless, the result at the smaller size will do., well it will have to.. The Master Photo CD stands up pretty well on a SONY 55" HD monitor.
Thank you for your interest., we could be all dead at our age, I must hit the defrag button ? (Unless you are a young fellow and really with it). My son who is in high definition video production cannot believe the quality out of the old Ektachromes and Kodachromes ?
The color and sharpness was spot on , I was using a Canon A1 with an L Series Pro F1.2  55 mm lena in those days.
Give me some details if you can   >

My wife still uses PE 6 for craft jobs, it is probably easier to use the  PsE13  from what she has tried , and gone back..

  • How can I export to PDF for Offset printing including color and grayscale photo's?

After reading dozens of forum, I still don’t found the answer.
I made a photobook with full-colur and B/W photos for Offset printing. I want the B/W to be in grayscale to avoid color possible color shades. It seems InDesign doesn’t support grayscale, the images become way to dark. Even with exporting without any colour conversion or destination and/or including original colour profiles, the grayscale pictures are being exported to dark to PDF.
How can I export to PDF for Offset printing including color and grayscale photo’s?

Yes, the Photoshop & ID CMYK working spaces are the same
This can get difficult because the 3 programs handle soft proofing differently.
The working spaces don't matter, it's the document profile(s) that manage the preview. So here is the same grayscale image placed in ID on top and PS on the bottom. I've set my Photoshop info to show the doc profile in the lower left corner. I can see my InDesign's Document CMYK profile in my Proof Setup (the Working CMYK is different and isn't being used). Both profiles are effectively the same Coated FOGRA39 (Black Ink FOGRA in the case of PS).
But the previews don't match because I have Overprint turned off, so the InDesign preview is Gamma 2.2 or a "screen" media preview.
If I turn on Overprint preview I get a match because I'm soft proofing for print:

  • 16-bit printing Windows HD Photo Plug-in for Adobe

I use Photoshop CS4 and am thinking of getting the Epson 3880 printer, which has 16-bit printing capabilities. Unfortunately, at present Epson natively only makes 16-bit printing available for Mac systems. However, Windows came out with a plug-in for Windows XP and Vista systems. That was before Windows 7 was released. It was also before CS4 was released. The Windows site says the plug-in was designed for CS2 and CS3 and works through installing an  XPS Print Path.
Will the plug-in work with CS4? Will it only allow me to print images saved in a Windows "HD" format, or will I be free to use standard formats that can be saved in 16-bit?
    Tony

Thanks for your reply John, I've been off-line for a few days, so haven't had a chance to respond.
The originator of the plug-in is Microsoft. The title of Microsoft's article about the plug-in is HD Photo Plug-in for Adobe® Photoshop® Software at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b157ca0f-083f-4957-9aa3-4da1de3dc 20b&DisplayLang=en
The function of printing with 16-bit as opposed to the standard 8-bit is a much larger bit depth which should yield a richer dynamic range and an expanded range of colors to print with. It seems to me that, if the printer is capable of printing in 16-bit and Photoshop is capable of working with and formating for printing in 16-bit, it would make sense to take advantage of the enhanced capability. Windows by default does not print in 16-bit, but it is capable of doing so (in XP, Vista, and 7). Microsoft developed this plug-in for CS3 for Vista and XP. As I currently am using XP, the plug-in will work with my OS. My question is will it work with CS4? I have other ancient plug-ins that load and work normally in CS4. I've installed the KPT Filter Collection, which goes back generations before CS1. But it's just filters. I would thinik a print plug-in would be more involved, hence my question.

  • I have a sudden export to plug-in problem as well as a Photo-Edit-in-Photoshop Error

I just changed Macs and migrated all of my old data to the new iMac (running OS X 10.9.2). Applications and files. I keep all my photo files on external Iomega drives, however. I plugged those back in and Lightroom 5.2 recognizes them. I can work with them, edit, etc within Lightroom. No problems.
But I can't seem to export them to some of the plug-ins now or Photo-Edit in-Photoshop. For example, I tried to export out via (File-Plug-in Extras-Perfect Effects 8) and get this message: "AgNegative:renderToFile: <AgErrorID>dng_error_write_file</AgErrorID>"
Another example: Trying to edit the photo via (Photo-Edit in-Adobe Photoshop Elements) gives me this message: "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/Photos-Videos /Pictures/2000/2000 Dean Scan 6.jpeg for editing. It will not be opened."
I've tried exporting Raw and jpgs and tiffs and get the same errors. It will, oddly enough, allow me to export to Photomatix Pro.
    Any ideas? I'm stumped.
    Thanks!

That would be great as tested further with a few files as not only have external drive backup I also use Backblaze remote service and just requested a few test files to be returned for uploading, which both worked fine.
It's seems to be the hard drive it's not recognising PS and LR CC
Will keep in touch if have any further thoughts

  • Mail: photos won't display, only "missing plug-in" message

My wife's old G4 PowerMac running OS X10.5.8 recently stopped displaying photos in Mail.  Instead, all that displays is message "Missing Plug-in" and the photo number or caption.  This happens with all incoming e-mails, as well as outgoing e-mails generated from iPhoto, or just standard e-mails composed in Mail with an attached  photo.  The photo is there when she clicks on "Quick Look" but not in the field of the message.  HTML images in ads display fine...only individual photo attachments are missing.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Hi Neville.
I have the same problem with the "missing plug-in" message...but everytime I close out and try a second time the photos appear.
Is the path "applications" "utilities" "java"...if so I don't see "Java" in utilities, even though I was prompted to do a recent "java update" and did so?
Wondering where my "Java Preferences" file would be since I don't any file for "Java" in "utilities".
Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

  • Web Photo Gallery in PS CS4

They are recomending that you use Bridge for web galleries, but I have always liked the way PS did them.
There is a plug in called "Web Photo Gallery" included with the programme that allows you to use the old method, which I have put it in the plug in folder as instructed. However I get a message that there is no template for a web photo gallery when I try to go Automate-web gallery.
Can anyone point me as to what I am doing wrong or not doing.
    Thanks

You have to load the templates for the old method too! CS4 doesn't use them.
This is what the instructions say:
    Web Photo Gallery
The ability to create a Web Photo Gallery is now available in the Adobe Bridge CS4 OutputModule. We highly recommend creating your Web Photo Galleries this way. If you would like to continue using the legacy Web Photos Gallery plug-in (WebContactSheetII), please follow these steps:
       1. From the Photoshop CS4 install disc, drop the //<language>/Goodies/Optional plug-Ins/Automate/WebContactSheetII plug-in into the //Adobe Photoshop CS4/Plugins/Automate folder
       2. From the Photoshop CS4 install disc, drop the //<language>/Goodies/Presets/Web Photo Gallery folder into the //Adobe Photoshop CS4/Presets folder and then restart Photoshop.
Note: See below for a movie demonstrating the above steps.
Optional: To add this legacy functionality back into Bridge (as a menu item):
       1. From the Photoshop CS4 install disc, drop the //<language>/Goodies/Optional plugins/Bridge Startup Scripts/photoshop_web_contact_sheet folder and photoshop_web_contact_sheet.jsx file into following locations:
              * Mac OS: //Library/Application Support/Adobe/Startup Scripts CS4/Adobe Photoshop/
              * Windows XP: //Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Startup Scripts CS4/Adobe Photoshop/
              * WindowsVista: //Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Adobe/Startup Scripts CS4/Adobe Photoshop/
       2. Restart Bridge.
There is also a instructional video on that page.

  • Third party plug in problem?

I am using IMac 10.6 and have just upgraded from CS4 to CS5. I have been using Nik Complete Collection plug-ins. Where as in CS4 I could select the Nik plug-in under the Photo Shop Filter tool bar, in CS5 it is not showing. Also they do not show up under the Photoshop pull-down "About plug-ins". Supposedly the Nik software is compatible with CS5.
I have reloaded the Nik software. I am still seeing it under the CS4 program. I also have a couple of other third-party plug-in that do not show up.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Running Photoshop CS5 as a 64-bit application (odds are it is). Older plug-ins need to be updated to 64-bit capable version to run in Photoshop CS5 when CS5 is launched as a 64-bit application. Until you get updated plug-ins locate the CS5 folder and select Photoshop CS5 and do a Command I (that's i) and choose to launch as a 32-bit application–the plug-ins should now be available (although you are limited to running CS5 as a 32-bit app which will be able to use much less ram and will run slower).

  • IPod Photo still rules!  But, itunes doesn't recognize it any more...

Hi iPod Photo fans and experts,
I have an iPod Photo 30 GB model that I just restored, and now I can't get it to show up in the iTunes source list.  For the record I am running Windows XP SP2, and iTunes 10.  And, I have tried this on two different machines with this same setup with the same result.
The weird thing is, after restarting windows, when I plug in the iPod Photo, the ipod will open itunes automatically.  But, itunes will not recognize it.  itunes still recognizes my other ipod classic with no problem.
The ipod photo shows up as a usb drive, and is recognized in Windows explorer.
The ipod itself is running V 1.2.1.
I tried the 10 steps listed in the apple support section related to this issue, including reinstalling itunes.  I also tried plugging in the ipod in disk mode.
Is there anything else I can try?  Is there any way to update the ipods firmware without itunes?

Whenever I plug in my ipod the window comes up asking what I want to do with my music. When I click Itunes it says: IPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Did this start happening after you updated to Service Pack 3?
If so, open your Device Manager. (Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", click "Device Manager".) Is your Device Manager currently completely blank?
When Device Manager is blank after an SP3 install, getting Device Manager displaying correctly again should also fix the "iPod Service Module" crash.
For a manual method of fixing the SP3 problem, see the following Microsoft document:
Device Manager and Network Connections may be blank after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
For an automated tool for fixing the problem, see the following Symantec document:
Problems occur after installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 with a Norton 2008 product installed

  • My B & W photos become negatives after clicking on "edit"

I have scanned and imported several B&W but one keeps showing up in IPhoto Ok, but becomes a negative once I attempt to edit it>

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're seeing this because you scanned them as grayscale photos which iPhoto doesn't support. You can rescan them as color with the RGB color provile or use another application to convert them. However the conversion will have to take place outside of iPhoto. Export the photos to a folder on the Desktop and drop the folder onto this Automator workflow application that I created: *+Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile+*. You can download it from Toad's Cellar.
Once you've converted the files import them into iPhoto (you'll have to tell iPhoto to import the duplicates) and check them out. If all is well then delete the first batch of scanned B/W files.

  • IPhoto 08 Help - iPhoto shows no photo's but data is still there.

    Hi there.
I have a Macbook Pro 15" and am running iLife 08. Basically my harddrive isn't big enough for all my photos so for the past year I have been using an external harddrive to hold all my photo's and using an alias (named iPhoto Library, in the Pictures folder of my internal hd) to link to the actual data which is stored on my external hd. I have been doing this for over a year and it has been working perfectly.
This afternoon I went to import some more photos from my camera. So i did the usual thing (plugged in external hd, fired up iphoto 08, plugged in camera, imported photos) but when the import had finished, I accidentally took out the external hd usb instead of the camera usb. So i got the usual Device Removal error message but I thought all would be fine.
I plugged in the external hd again and restarted iPhoto (loads up fine) but it says no photos. It has no albums or thumnails or anything. It looks just like it did the very first time I opened it (before any photos had been imported).
So my heart jumped and missed a few beats with me thinking my external hd had lost all its data at the accidental removal, but it hasn't. It still has all the photos and data as it usually did (inside a package folder named Iphoto Library).
My question is how do I restore iPhoto so that it looks like it did yesterday? All the data is still there but iPhoto just doesn't display any of it? I have checked that iPhoto is opening the iPhoto Library alias but still no luck.
I have just as a precaution backed up the external hardrives 'iPhoto Library' folder onto a second external hard drive.
Thanks in advance, let me know if you need any screenshots/screenrecordings.
    Pete

Yes have tried that. I set up the alias because I originally had the photos on my internal hard drive and then moved them across. I have tried holding command and alt whilst clicking iphoto and selecting the options to rebuild the library but it just takes 2 seconds and does nothing.
    Any other ideas anyone?
    Thanks again.

  • Re: Unzipping & installing a plug-in

Hello. I have downloaded a plug-in for exporting photos directly from LR to Picasa. Once I unzip the plug-in, what file should I install it in to enable it? Thank you. Respectfully, Anne

Regarding the installation of plug-ins on Mac Leopard 10.5 (and maybe Tiger as well)...
Yes, you can click on the ".lrplugin" file in Finder and the plugin will install, but only if a version of the plug-in does not already exist in the Modules folder. If a plugin with the same name already exists, then the install barfs, and the plugin isn't updated. You have to manually remove the plugin before you install an updated version using this approach.
There is no equivalent install option in Windows...you have to manually copy the plugin to the Modules folder.
