Plug-Ins for Safari and Firefox

I'm a new MAC owner (as of last week as a matter of fact) so bear with me.......
I had to download Firefox since I got the message that Safari didn't support the new Yahoo Mail Beta.
Then I decided to check out my MACBook Pro's video capabilities by going to the CBS web page to watch The Unit (go to http://www.cbs.com/ and click 'Full Episodes'.....)
I got the following error:
The page “CBS.com - Innertube” has content of MIME type “audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.
Can anyone help me find the appropriate plug-in? What additional plug-ins should I install while I'm at it (Active-X, Java, etc.)?
BTW, I get an error with Firefox as well telling me that additional plug-ins are required, but the automatic (Firefox) search tells me that no suitable plug-ins were found.
Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Wow, I had no idea it would be that simple.
Normally with my PC, if an update was needed the error message would instruct to download the newest version of Flash, Real, etc.
I figured with the cryptic error message I got from Firefox and Safari that I needed some 'plug-in.'
Thanks! Problem solved......

  • Missing extensions/plug-ins for Safari.

So, I recently had a virus/malware scare and to take care of it (which I did) I got rid of all extensions/plug ins for Safari.
I've currently only got Adobe Flash Player, and nothing else which is really hindering me. I've looked all over but I can't find out what the plug-ins or extensions I need are.
The most recent issue was something about Audio Midi when I couldn't play an audio thing online while looking for guitar chords stuff.
After that gave it a shot by asking Apple, but the closest Apple store is too far to be worth driving to and I can't afford $50 or however much it is to get the info/links/whatever I need.

There's no need to install Safari extensions if you don't wan to, however, there might want to check out the extensions gallery. You may find something useful.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Safari Extensions ...
To avoid malware, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General
Make sure:  Mac App Store and identified developers  is selected.
If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

  • Plug-ins for Safari?

    Hello
    I have a 'test' site here: www.proofreading4students.com/projects.asp
Please ignore the untidy layout - I am only concerned about loading the video correctly at this stage.
There is a video on the page (though it takes a while to download - not sure if that is because of the size of the video file or how to compress it, but any ideas are welcome).
I can see the video in IE and Chrome, but in Safari I get a 'Missing Plug-in' message in the video 'container'. This is the code that loads the video:
    <div class="content_image">
    <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="Goldfish.swf" width="300" height="240">
    </object>
    </div>
What plug-ins do I require, please?
    Thanks!

If you were running a Mac the following would have been my answer, but like i said I am ignorant about similar voo-doo on Windows!
Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.
Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.
On March 1 Apple again blocked Flash Player for Lion and Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5660
The Adobe Flash patch can be found on Adobe’s website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent version.
You should uninstall any previous version first, and repair permissions after installing the new version.
If you still get a ‘plug-ins blocked’ message:

There are a number of companies out there that make plugins - just do a Google search for them.
In the meantime how does a hundred FREE effects, transitions and generators sound?
If you are prepared to spend a couple of hours (Broadband speed) exploring these sites you will find them:-

Though it says FCPro they all work with FCE. Each site has at least one free plugin amongst numerous commercial ones and some sites have ten or more.

  • Table Definitions for Safari and Firefox

All of the sudden my method to make a table 100% of the
vertical height of a browser window in Safari and Firefox for the
Mac has ceased to work. It works fine on PCs. I used both
Dreamweaver and GoLive in my efforts. Anythougts on how to more
appropriately or alternatively set this definition correctly?

    Here's the deal.
A doctype on an HTML page tells the browser how to render the
    page. If
there is no doctype, or if there is an invalid one, the page
    is rendered in
quirks mode. If there is a valid doctype, the page is
    rendered in standards
    mode.
DMX inserted a broken doctype on the page (i.e., functionally
    equivalent to
no doctype). Earlier versions inserted NO doctype. Hence, all
    these pages
    are rendered in quirks mode.
In quirks mode, the browser makes an attempt to render
    invalid HTML. Not
all browsers attempt the same rendering - so you will see a
    variety of
differences, comparing one browser to the next on the same
    page.
In standards mode, the browsers all render the same (so they
    say - but in
practice, while not true, it's much more uniform).
Table height is invalid HTML. It always has been - it was
    never a part of
    HTML's specs.
Browsers in quirks mode will try to render table heights.
    Browsers in
    standards mode willl not.

  • Uninstalling plug-ins for Safari, but not Firefox

    Hi all,
I've been driving myself kind of nuts over this. Is there a way for a plug-in to be installed only for Firefox and not Safari? I like the built-in PDF reader in Safari, but I want the Schubert-IT PDF browser plug-in for Firefox. Both browsers share the "Internet Plug-Ins" folder, but it seems weird that we can't be selective in terms of which browser gets what.
If nothing else, is there maybe a Safari configuration file hiding somewhere that can be edited to exclude certain plug-ins?
    Thanks,
    Tim

The issue is that it's how you have it setup  for PDF files.
Right or control click a PDF file you have stored on the hard drive then click Get Info.
In the Get Info panel look for: Open with
All applications are set to open with a particular PDF viewer.

    Hi ...
Could be the flashback trojan.. if it is, it's not difficult to remove.
Install this update >  Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8
That should remove variants of the trojan. Restart your Mac after the update is installed, try Safari.
If it still crashes, run this removal tool >  Flashback Removal Tool - F-Secure Weblog : News from the Lab
If that didn't help at all, check out these folders >   ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins  and  /Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
If you see that plugin, move it to the Trash.
When you post for help, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed. The more details you provide, the easier to help you

  • Missing Plug-ins for Safari 4.0.3

I am receiving error messages from certain websites that state that the content contains MIME-type applications and suggests downloading an application such as Adobe Flash player, etc. I have tried to download Adobe Flash player several times but it is not showing up as an installed plug-in when I go to the help menu and click on "installed plug-ins". The subsequent window shows that no plug-ins are installed at all. I also have a Mac-Mini and Macbook that I have used to cross reference with and they have several plug-ins listed when I look at "installed plug-ins". I have already reinstalled Safari to no avail. Any suggestions as to why they might be missing on my iMac or any suggestions on how to restore them (Adobe, Shockwave, etc).

    Greetings,
Are you running Mac OS X 10.5.8 as your profile states? If not, update your profile so it's accurate. There is no reason you should be deleting or reinstalling Safari; that is not the problem. You already have Flash installed, so there is no reason to install it again, unless you were upgrading the version, which would then require you to uninstall it first.
Have you tried re-setting Safari, as well as using Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions and then restarting Safari to see if the problem continues? Have you tried creating a new User account and testing for this problem there? If not, do that, too.

  • What are the recommended plug-ins for HDR and Black and White?

What HDR and Black and White plug-in software does anyone suggest for Aperture 3?

There is a tremendous amount that can be done re: grayscale with Aperture's adjustments.  I'd look into those, first:
    - The "Black & White" Brick.  Keep the total of the percentages to 100 in order to not change the overall luminance much, but by all means play around until you understand what the sliders are doing.  Note that you can change the hues using the Color Brick (also WB, Tint, etc.), and use that to set up your conversion done with the B&W Brick.
    - The "Color Monochrome Brick.  Open up the color selector and skim the eyedropper cursor over the gray scale below the colors grid.
    - All of the Bricks which affect the luminance distribution (viz.: Exposure, Curves, H&S, Levels, etc.)
The Nik plug-ins are universally good (they are several, including NR, B&W, and HDR tools).  (I disapprove of the engorgement of filters, many of which do similar things and none of which specify what they actually do.)  If you end up with the Nik Suite, I suggest installing it as PS plug-ins, and using PS as your external editor (with, if you're up for it, each Nik tool assigned to it's own layer).  Using more than one Nik plug-in on the same image in Aperture yields an inelegant, possibly destructive workflow.

  • Downloading Plug-Ins for Safari?

I tried to watch this trailer and it said that becauseI don't the plug in that MIME type, I can't watch it. So, is there somewhere or somehow that I can download it? Thanks

    Hi
If it's the Xbox site, it's likely Windows Media format. Install the Flip4Mac components for Quicktime, and restart your browser - that should do it.

  • Plug ins for Safari / Mac??

We have invested in one of these Macbook Pro thingies and since surfing the net i have noticed that there are a lot of times that i cannot view video on certain web pages. It says i need plugins. Where can i get all of theses plugins required for viewing net video. My Mac skills are limited as we have only just switched. Many thanks in advance. I have installed Firefox and use it quite often so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Stuart

    Hi Stuart!
The questions are no problem...glad to help!
Ok 2 things...you are not going to be able to use Windows Media Player...you must use Flip4Mac. Microsoft decided to not develop it anymore and they are even promoting Flip4Mac now (that's why I gave you the link to their site...sorry if it was confusing). And they stopped the development before Macs went Intel...that's why you can't run it. Only pre-Intel Macs can run the actual Windows Media Player. So first download the Flip4Mac and that will do it for you.
Now about the .sitx this is an extension for Stuffit compressed files. On pc your are used to seeing .zip files often. Mac too has .zip and you don't need anything to unzip it...Mac OS X can unzip automatically. But on Mac .dmg (disk images) are more common. You will notice them if you haven't already as most software is distributed in disk images. Stuffit (.sitx) is kinda outdated but you still might see it sometimes. (Remember Windows Media is kinda outdated too that's why it's still using .sitx.) You can download Stuffit for free for those times you might need it. No rush since you won't be using that Windows Media Player anyways. Here's the link:
    http://www.stuffit.com/mac/index.html
You won't be able to view that content until you get Flip4Mac installed. Now there are some videos out there that might not play on Safari...but first let's get the right tools installed then go from there.
And about the Firefox downloads yes that's strange. Firefox should perform comparably to Safari. That difference is huge! I don't believe there's anything special to setup prior on Firefox so I'm not sure at the moment what that might be?

  • How do I get administrative priveleges to install optional plug-ins for cs5

how do I get administrative priveleges to install optional plug-ins for cs5 and or how to install these optional plugins thanks

To add to Mylenium's reply, here's how to do it on Windows and this is what microsoft website says:
Why do I have to be an administrator to install a program?
Only administrators can make changes that will affect everyone who uses the computer, such as installing software and hardware and changing security settings.
If the program you are trying to install or run says you  must have administrator rights, but you are already an administrator on the computer, right-click the installation icon for the program, and then click Run as administrator. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
If the program installs but does not run, right-click the program icon, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, select the Run this program as an administrator check box, and then try to run the program.

  • Safari and Firefox will not download from a particular site

    Greetings,
I own a Dual 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 (FW800) with 2 MB L3 cache per processor and 1 GB DDR SDRAM with the Mac OS X Version 10.4.11
My Safari version is 4.1.2 (4533.18.5)
    My Firefox version is 3.6.10
I want to access this site for the information that it contains:
    http://www.gis.mt.gov/
Safari has never worked with this site.
Firefox has worked very well for the past 2 years.
Recently, very recently, both browsers do NOT work with this site. I called the state's technical support and was informed:
    1) That it is a hit or miss possibility for Safari and Firefox to work properly with this site; and,
    2) That the site is optimized to operate with Internet Explorer for Windows.
I am unable to find and to download a recent version of Internet Explorer for Mac. Microsoft ended support for this browser (version 5.2.3) on 12/31/2006. I did download this version and it did not work.
    Open this site: http://www.gis.mt.gov/
Click on “Property Map” located in upper left area of the screen.
On new drop-down, click on the “OK” button
A new window should appear with a map of Montana, with outlines of its 56 counties. If this map does NOT appear; then, the problem is being shown.
If this map of counties does appear; then, GREAT.
On this new window and in lower right hand corner choose a city and click on the “Go” button. A new window with the city shown should appear. If this city does not appear; then, there is the problem.
In the past I have used the “Property Map” most of the time because it contains information most useful to me. I want to continue using this “Property Map” into the future. The problem is that my results with both Safari and Firefox is a blank window after completing the above steps.
    Help ! ! What can I do different/change/modify?

There is your answer. Many US Government sites are the same - they simply WILL NOT follow the necessary web standards to make them Apple and/or Safari compliant.
The only thing you can try is to go to Safari's Develop Menu and try using Internet Explorer as the User Agent.
