Plug-ins on inserts, busses, auxes, and outputs

when the plug-ins are placed on inserts, busses, auxes, and outputs BUT in BYPASS mode, do they use any portion of CPU/RAM (or processing power)?
should i be removing them instead of just selecting BYPASS...I do quite a bit of A/B ing.
According to LP8 manual BYPASS mode does not really help with latency.
"Note: In the All mode, bypassing plug-ins on busses, auxes, and outputs will not
eliminate the latency that they create. You must actually remove these plug-ins from
the Insert slots to eliminate latency."

Why did the most recent update set all my plug-ins to Ask to Activate and disable an Adobe one?

Firefox update and none of my plug-ins were working till I went and changed them from Ask to Activate to Always Activate. This Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in says it needs to be updated but when I try it does not update. It returns to the same need to update screen. There is a problem with your latest update.

I did try to update the plug-in. I would not. I fixed the problem by uninstalling the new firefox and downloading an older version and making sure it didn't install the maintenance program. This keeps it from updating. I even tried the 31 beta firefox and it set all plug-ins to ask to activate. Until you can fix this problem I will remain using the older version that works properly.

Plug-ins not recognised in logic and ableton live

Ive put all my plug in files in Library/Audio/plugins/components but still logic and ableton live doesnt recognise these plug in files. I realy need those plug-ins, what is going on????????

I understand why it's a painful process.
If a developer is making Mac-only software, and already using XCode, then making a unibin version is not too painful (ranging from trivial to a little bit of work).
However, if you're a large cross-platform company using a different compiler, you may have to completely change a development infrastructure you've built up over years, redevelop all your custom tools, and find solutions to the cross-platform issue, before even writing any code - and that can be a very big deal indeed.
The real point is that the customer should be aware of these things before making any critical decisions...

Plug ins for burning, dodging, layers and filters

I have Lightroom 4.4 and I would like to add plugins for burning, dodging, layers and filters. Which plugins would I need to do this things and where would I get them?

Lightroom has dodge and burn built in through the adjustment brushes. You can't have layers or PS-style filters in LR.

I can not get the plug ins to work for Adobe and Java

Do I need Microsoft DRM or Windows Presentation Foundation plug-ins? Status is "unknown" and Action iis "research"

The last "update" in the community on this topic was 2011... has anything changed?? Are there any updates to these plugins if we need to keep them??
As these are significant Microsoft plugins, Mozilla should know about them... not a "Research" button.

Also note that the Modified Preferences section in the System Details List shows a lot of preferences from older Firefox versions, so you can consider to delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

3rd party plug-ins are not displayed in channel strip audio unit insert

I have successfully loaded several 3rd party plug-ins (Wave Masters and IK multimedia Studio Bundle) into my MacBook Pro. The files are shown in Library>Audio>Plug-ins>Components, in User>Downloads, and they appear in my Audio Unit Manager (for each the box is checked for access from Logic Pro). Yet, when I go to a channel strip to launch some of the plug-ins, the product does not show up under audio units. How do I get these plug-in files to the insert list for my audio channels? Unfortunately, I need to launch these plug-ins in order to authorize them with the vendor. I must be missing a key step, but I have not had this issue before with other 3rd party plug-ins. Thanks for any direction.

Also, I know in the case of my IK Multimedia Classic Studio Reverb, it will NOT be available from within my 3rd party plug-in list, on a MONO channel.
I need to be opening the list on a stereo track (or stereo Aux), in order to be able to select those plug-ins.

How can I insert a plug-in in front of already inserted plug-ins?

If I already inserted and edited e. g. 3 plug-ins into an audio object, and now I want to insert another plug-in into the first position (e. g. Melodyne Bridge), how can I do that. In other words: I want the already inserted and edited 3 plug-ins to move to positions 2, 3 and 4, and the new plug-in into position 1.

In the Environment you can move plug-ins if you Control click on the plugin, then press the Apple key down and drag. If you hold down the Option key too, you can copy plug-ins.
Alternatively;
If you don't have a Channel EQ instanced and it's little icon isn't in the area above the first slot, double clicking here will open the Channel EQ and push all the plug-ins down a slot. You can then replace the Channel EQ with the plug-in of your choice.

Can't download plug in for windows media player. Have used download site and it says it worked, but plug in is not showing up on my list of plug ins.

I tried to hear a conference call on a website. Got a message, needed windows media plug in. Checked my plug ins, no windows media. Read tutorial on firefox support. Clicked on download. Got a window that asked for repair or change. Tried repair, then change. Need better directions on how to finish download. Got message download successful, but after closing firefox and reopening, still no plug in for windows media in list of plug ins. Went to site and could not hear conference.
Read support forum. Message about using about:config. Tried this, typed in about: config in start menu, but didn't see anything that looked like I could change to true like message said.
solved by opening internet explorer and going to website and listening to conference call on windows media player. There was a message saying click here if you want to enable media player. Did so, heard conference.
Tried using chrome. Got to hear conference yesterday. Today, there was same message about needing plug in when I tried to follow instructions to get plug in, it was as confusing and useless as firefox. The bottom line is I tried to do everything set forth in firefox's forum suggestions and can't get the windown media plug in to show up in my list of plug ins and can't hear conference calls on firefox.
Chrome did say they were working on getting plug in available at chrome store.
I agree with comments that I was able to go to web sites and hear calls before firefox made an update that removed my windows media plug in. The simple download fix, presumeably from windows, does not work, apparently because firefox can't find the fix. That is not the user's fault, and it looks like windows tried to provide a fix, and firefox won't recognize it.
Bottom line, it is easier to use another browser, than try and get the windows media player plug in installed on firefox. What good is a browser, if you can't hear a call on the website that the browser takes you to? Please make it easy to install the windows media plug in on firefox. Thank you..

Firefox can find plugins in several locations, but Firefox 21 changed the location of the "shared" plugin folder so older installers like the Microsoft Windows Media Plugin no longer drop the DLL file in the correct location.
There apparently are two ways to address this:
(1) Change a Firefox preference so that Firefox checks the old location. Here's how:
(i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the filter box, type or paste '''plugins''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins''' to switch its value from false to true.
This will take effect after you restart Firefox.
(2) Copy the plugins folder to the new location. Here's how on Win 7 64-bit:
Open a Windows Explorer window to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Right-click and copy the '''Plugins''' folder
Double-click the '''browser''' folder to open it
Right-click and paste
Right-click the new copy of '''Plugins''' and rename it to '''plugins'''
After restarting Firefox, the plugins in that folder should now be available.
''Edit: I suggest just doing #1.''

Bad script nsExtensionManager.js:623 locks up Firefox add-ons and plug-ins

I've started getting the message below any time I try to use add-ons or plug-ins such as Google toolbar and Yoono.
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Neither the "cancel" nor the "stop script" button will make the warning box go away. Nothing but a reboot will. And any time I try to go to Tools-Add-ins, or use any Add-ins, the box comes back and I'm locked up again.
Rebooting does not solve the problem, and oddly, reinstalling Firefox does not solve the problem. I also opened Firefox in SAFE mode, and I still get the exact same problem.

You're probably not exiting Firefox completely. Open the task manager and choose the Processes tab. Find the firefox.exe, select it and end process. If you have the Firefox Preloader installed, look for the FirefoxPreloader.exe and end that process as well. You'll know everything is closed when the error message stops reappearing. Hopefully this will enable you to open safe-mode. (;

Missing Plug-ins - Package And Preflight.APLN from InDesign Document

If a user creates a file in InDesign CC and then tries to open it in InCopy CS6 they get the following error.
Missing Plug-ins, Cannot Open File
PACKAGE AND PREFLIGHT.APLN
The Doument "filename.indd" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?
This happens whether the copy of InCopy is on the same PC as InDesign or a seperate PC without InDesign. InCopy is installed seperately from the CC.
Clicking OK opens the file normally.
We have checked that both versions of the software match at v8.0.2.
I've heard it might be due to embedding of this file but the designers say they are not yet at the stage of packaging this file when they get this error so nothing should be embedded.
Can anyone help?

Hi, Thanks for pointing out the error.
I have checked back with our designer and found out that they are using InDesign CS6 and not CC. (I was confused as they used CC to install it rather than our seperate deployment tool).
The problem however remains the same.

World music & orchestra plug ins keep disappearing and reappearing

I'd be grateful if anyone can explain how to keep the plug ins like orchestral and world instruments in my library permanently as sometimes when I select an instrument, the plug ins disappear from the list and I don't know how to access them until they somehow re appear. Is there an icon or a setting I can select to keep all the instruments in the library tab at all times.
These plug ins came with logic express automatically.

I tried adding a new software instrument, then clicked on the settings button - but still no world or orchestral options - according to the manual they should automatically be in the settings tab along with all the other usual options - I'm wondering if it's a bug in logic express 9?

Plug-ins disappearing, but they are still installed!

Yesterday I went to use some plug-ins that I always use and they where gone. The plug-ins list was cut in half: some where still there, some where not. I rescanned the plugs and some reappeared, but a lot of them are still gone. Curiously I opened a project from a few months back and when I checked the plug-ins from within that project, they where all there.
Has this happened to anyone before? I hope there is a fix other than re-installing everything again.

Check whether are are using mono or stereo tracks. Depending on what the plugin declares to the host, some plugins may or may not be available by default depending on whether you are inserting them on mono or stereo tracks.
Otherwise, I don't understand why plugins would "disappear" on a by-project basis, as the available plugins are a system-wide thing.
Remember there is a difference between what plugins are "available" to Logic, and what are instantiated in your project...

Actions containing Plug-ins?

I'd like to be able to construct some Actions which use third-party Plug-ins - can anyone point me to a tutorial on this? Is it even generally possible ....? The simpler the construction scheme the better. I'm working with CS5. Thanks for any assistance.

There is more to it then that. As Noel pointed out the plug-in must include code that will record the setting used during recording an action into the action step. Without that code the action may record a step but it will not have recorded setting. I have one old free prugin from Reindeer Graphics "SelectEdges.8bs" installed on my system which I cam use without a problem manually. However if I try to record using it in an action no step is recorded into the action. I have to insert a stop message to have the user use menu Select>OPTIPIX>Select Edges and also include instruction for the setting to use. Then have the user continue the action by clicking on play.
There are several types of plug-ins those the are compiled and others that are scripted interpeted code. Compile code may have a dependency on 32bit support or 64bit support. Photoshop Scripting in CS3 Adobe added Prug-in support and changed the compiled Fit Image Plugin to a script. Additionaly some changes to scripting plug-in support were made in CS4 and CS5. Changes were also may to the way the Action recorded records these step. CS3, and CS5 do not record these step the same way CS3 recorded the script full path into the action step so the script can be any where on your system. CS5 does not record the path so the script must be in Photoshop script path which can be extended to other path by adding shortcut links to the script folder in Photoshop scripts folder. Window 7 or Photoshop also through in a monkey wrench with 64 and 32 bit support when resolving "Program File" in the path name. Scripts will work with both versions of Photoshop 64 and 32 Bit so there is no need for two version or script folders. I created a folder C:\Programs Files\Adobe\Scripts\ where I store my scripts and I placed a link to this tree into Photoshop Presets/Scripts I did the same when I upgraded to Windows 7. I added this link to both versions of Photoshop 32 and 64 bit thogh both links are to C:\Programs Files\Adobe\Scripts\ when Photoshop 32bit exe is run some peice of code add a " (x86)" to "Program Files" so I created the path and dupe my tree there. I may try moving where I store my script from C:\Programs Files\Adobe\Scripts\ to C:\Adobe\Scripts\ to get "Programs Files" out of the picture.
