Plug into outlet icon wont go away

I bought a used ipod and tried to update it on an iBook. Well, when it was all said and done... I was left with an ipod that only wanted to get plugged in. So, I bought a charger and tried that... well, it didnt work. So, I thought maybe it was the battery, so I replaced that. That didnt work either. So, now all my ipod does is show the wall charge icon. What are the suggestions? Any body seen any thing like this?

"Any body seen any thing like this"
Yes, when updating or restoring some iPods via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see that icon displayed. It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
Is the charger an Apple one, and have you considered that this used iPod is broken? Did you try resetting the iPod whilst connected to the charger?
You can try this.

I make no claims as to whether this will work (but I've seen other posts where it has), but merely point it out.
Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

my facebook (f) icon wont go away and i have no new notifications or messages. same thing with my myspace icon. anyone know how to fix this please???

Are those Facebook and MySpace notificiation icons in the upper part of your homescreen?
Tips for clearing that unread message... try them in order.
If you have a rogue New Message icon on your Homescreen, or a negative count (-1), any one of these solutions could clear it, or reset it to zero:
    Try these options:
    * Hard Reset the BlackBerry by holding ALT, CAP (right Shift key), and DEL (or with the BlackBerry powered ON, remove the battery and reinserting the battery)
    * View Messages > Saved Messages
    * View Messages > View Folders, check each folder (missed calls, SMS in and out boxes, MMS in and out boxes, Saved, browser, phone logs etc)
    * Scroll to top of message folder, over the date heading, click or press menu to MARK PRIOR OPEN
    * Change your theme and see if it persists, and change back to your desired theme. (Options > Theme > select.)
    * Wipe and reload your OS.

Tried updating my software. Now the screen is stuck on plug into iTunes icon. I don't have a computer I can use. Is there anyway to get around this and fix phone?

    No chance.
If the "plug into iTunes"-Logo appears, you have to do so.
    Sorry.

  • Can get past the "Power adapter plugging into wall" icon

I just got my brothers older 60gb Photo ipod and am trying to get it working on my computer. Did the whole restore thing, but now it is stuck at the Power adapter plugging into wall icon. I didn't have the original wall plug so I got a universal one at Radio Shack. Only the ipod still has the darn icon on it and I can't get past it. Any suggestions>

Lets do a trick. Connect the iPod and the cabel. The USB connector has 2 prongs that stick out a little more than the rest the goal. is to push it in a little so it charges but does not sync. Give It A Try.

  • Plug Into Outlet Sign Won't Go Away!!! Help!

I am so frustrated. A few things happened before I plugged my Mini in.
    1) I downloaded the new version of iTunes to my computer.
    2) My brother and I put a bunch of new songs on my iTunes.
    3) I plugged my Mini into my computer. It synced only some of the songs and said to sync all songs, I needed the newer version downloaded onto the iPod itself.
    4) I clicked download and it downloaded when my Mini was plugged into the computer.
    5) Then it said to plug the iPod into a wall charger and an icon showing the iPod charger being plugged into a wall outlet.
    6) I plugged it in to a wall charger and it did nothing...just shows the same icon.
    7) I bought a new wall charger (I thought the charger was bad) and it still does nothing and shows the same icon.
    8) I have tried everything that I can (the R's that it will let me do)
    9) When I plug the Mini into my computer, it won't recognize the iPod in iTunes or on my computer. My computer acts as if it doesn't exist and while the iPod is plugged into the computer...there is still that same stinking icon that won't go away.
I need help and I really hope that someone our there can help.
    Thanks so much!!!

I did some reading online about all the people who had the same problem, then went to Wal-mart, bought a Belkin car charger for $20, went out to my car and plugged it in. It updated in about 30 seconds. I then went back into the store and returned the car charger.
Just get a car charger, use it and return it. Easiest fix ever especially after a day of tearing my hair out when the wall charger didn't work.

  • My ipod touch 4g is turning up or down by itself, and the speaker icon wont go away

Okay this first started yesterdy morning, when my ipod touch4g was acting funny it wouldnt turn off, so i thought if i plugged it in it would fix itself, so i thought restoring would help it,made it worse it started turning off and on apple logo came on a few times, now i got it where i can turn it off and on okay but now i cant seem to controle the volume, and the speaker icon is showing and wont go away, and when i try turning it down when i play a song or a video, it will turn back up by itself, or it will turn down by itself,
what would be the best way to fix this without taking it in? the nearest apple store is dallas and i dont wanna spend all the money in gas to go up there, and then see what arm and leg i gotta cut off to get them to fix it.
should i restore and resync it one more time or should i start saving for a new ipod along with the new computer im needing?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Sad ipod icon wont go away

my click wheel ipod displays a sad icon and is not recognized by updater, itunes or my computer. When I plug into the power cord it cycles through the apple logo, the sad ipod then low battery display. I have tried the R's, software reinstall but nothing seems to work. The trouble seems to be in the ipod. I have had a Dell DJ for 2 years and not one problem. I purchased the ipod in May from the apple site and it worked fine for a month. Whats the deal apple.

  • IPhone won't pick up that it is plugged into outlet or computer.

This has been an ongoing issue for the past couple of months, but now, it is currently a huge problem (i'll explain in a second).
For whatever reason, my iPhone 4S won't properly pick up that it is plugged into the charger. Now, I, at first thought that the port might have been damaged but this is not the case as when I reset my iPhone 4S (as in, turn it on and off) or when it is completely dead, it will detect that it is either plugged into the computer or outlet. However, today I had realized that I had a pending software update. I decided to pursue the update, and now it's stuck at the "needs to attach to itunes screen" and will not pick up that it's attached to the computer/iTunes.
Also, I should mention, I have 6 different wires that work fine with my iPad. So, it isn't a wire issue either.
Not sure how to tackle this one. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • Iphone will not turn on unless plugged into outlet, and then says activation needed

It worked fine before class, when I left class to check my phone, it wouln't turn on. If I plug it into the wall outlet and it shows the red battery indicating it has no charge, then goes to the apple logo screen for a few minutes before turning on and saying activation required. It was trying to make me go through the steps of activating it. If i unplug it, it will turn back off. It will not power up if I plug it into the computer, and it does not show up as a device on my computer. I have tried holding down the home and power button to reset it, and this does not work. I bought the phone when it first came out, Im trying to avoid taking it the the Apple store because it is 2 hours away.

What troubleshooting have you tried? Try a reset, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should reboot. If it does not, then you need to try and restore via iTunes. Try connecting the phone to the computer and iTunes and see if it is recognized. If not, you will have to force it into Recovery mode and restore. See this support document for that help. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Charger icon wont go away??

i got an ipod from my friend and i updated it. then this little icon telling me to plug it into a wall power supply. and if i leave it in my computer then it just sits there.
    any ideas?
    thanx
    steve

You can use the iPod's AC adapter, a car adaptor, a 6-pin FireWire port on a computer, a system such as the iPod Hi-Fi, or this method to charge the iPod enough for the update process to complete. In addition, if there is an Apple Store nearby, they may complete the update for free.

  • "power adapter plugging into wall" icon

I plugged my mini into the wall(after getting this icon) but nothing's happening. I've reset it numerous times also. I'VE DONE EVERYTHING, BUT NOTHING IS WORKING. I'm on my sixth hour of trying to get this working. THESE THINGS ARE ALMOST NOT WORTH THE EFFORT. Any suggestions please!!
    IBM t40   Windows XP

I am having the same problem. Ipod was running. Updated and got icon requesting me to plug ipod into external power source. Didn't have an external power source (since it wasn't supplied!) so I bought one. But I'm STILL getting nothing but the power plug icon.
And yes, I have reset it numerous times. It goes to the "batttery recharge" icon (despite the fact that it's been plugged in for hours and hours) and then the apple icon comes up and then it goes back to the plug in external battery icon.
I tried to see if I could restore the thing in that brief moment when the apple icon appeared, but no go. It never recognized the Ipod.
I have a very expensive brick and I'm very unhappy. There must be a workaround. Help please!

  • Ipod touch 4th generation is stuck in "plug into itunes" icon.

I have plugged it in to different cords and ports on computer as well as in the wall with same results. I have try to restore it with the computer saying it is not connected. It will not let me turn off or on but does turn off and on when plugging it in gives my apple icon then back to same itunes icon. I try to put change it to whatever mode with black screen and restore it. I have changed settings on computer. Nothing is working any ideas. My son split a cup of water did not get directly on the ipod but it was on the stand and was sitting in it. Please help. Thank you

Very likely hardware since Apple say:
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • IPad trying to charge and plug into outlet but now won't charge in that outlet but will from my computer

why wont my ipad charge from an outlet and only from my computer

    Hello Bellewales,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I found the following support article that explains the linking of your phone number and Apple ID to use with iMessage, including troubleshooting steps if it's missing on the iPad.
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5538
Phone number missing on iPad or iPod touch
If your phone number isn't listed on an iPod touch or iPad, follow these steps:
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you're using on your iPhone.
On your iPad or iPod touch, sign out of your Apple ID in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID with FaceTime and iMessage.
If your phone number still isn't listed, follow these steps:
Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Receive At and Settings > FaceTime.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your other iOS devices.
    Take care,
    Alex H.

  • Little sick ipod icon wont go away

    hey all,
my ipod screen displays the little sick ipod picture. iv tried, recharging in, reseting it, restoring it... everything but the picture still remains. My first ipod I sent away because it froze, this is the replacement one they send me and the 90 day warranty expires a few days ago. any tips?

    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Try to connect on a different computer i.e. a PC formatted iPod connect with a Mac computer or Mac formatted iPod with a Window base PC.
    8. Try to do a Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a reformat with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer).
    9. Try to run the iPod in “Diagnostic mode” . which can be accessed by pushing the “hold” switch into the “on” position and then “off” (into the original position). Then press the following buttons in the following order: “menu” plus “select” (centre button) then press “reverse” plus “select”. This will take you to the hidden diagnostic mode screen menu. It may take a few trials and pressing the buttons in the right way for this to work, so be patient and keep trying if you have to. The diagnostic mode will give you 7 choices which are: Memory, IO, Power, Status, SysCfg, Diskmode, and Reset. Don’t bother trying “reset” because in my case it didn’t work it just took me back to the same problem. Instead, choose “diskmode”, after which you should get an odd looking “ok to disconnect” sign on the iPod screen.
If one of the above step helps to get your iPod to be recognized with your computer, do a Restore.
