Plug ipod in, Windows Vista says "Oh no you didn't!"

Hello!
When ever I plug my ipod into my laptop, Windows Vista crases and gives me a BSOD. Also, every time the BSOD gives a different error code; however, when I reboot and log back into Windows I get a message tat says my video drivers crashed. The question I have is: has anyone ever encountered this before and if so, did new video drivers solve the problem?

hmmmmm. perhaps first head to Toshiba, to see if there are any updates to the video drivers (and other componentry) available for your particular model.

but let's also set up the PC to capture minidumps, so we can send them to the Apple Engineers for a look.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
generate the crash, find that file, Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
(actually, if you're getting different STOP message codes each time, it might be worth collecting a few different minidumps for this one.)
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
- A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
- The username you are using in the thread
- The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
- the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
- A concise description of the issue you are seeing
- The exact text of the error message you are seeing

30G Video IPod and Windows Vista - Help!

I just recently bought a new computer equipped with Windows Vista. I have a 12" G4 iBook that was my main computer from which I ran my 30G Video iPod, and now I am wanting to sync my iPod with my new Windows computer, and this will be the only system I use with my iPod.
I realize there are many problems with compatibility of iTunes/iPods with Windows Vista.
My question is, barring the problems with iTunes, I downloaded the latest iTunes anyways and tried to use Yamipod to bring my 1600+ songs onto my computer from my iPod by bypassing iTunes. Problem is, my computer doesn't even recognize the iPod at all. iTunes does, but when I cancel the box asking me to reformat my iPod to Windows format and try to use Yamipod, Yamipod doesn't even recognize an iPod existing. I thought maybe it was just the program, so I tried about 4 others, but nothing. I also used the cd that came with my iPod and put the drivers onto this computer, but the actual computer still doesn't even recognize it plugged in.
Any ideas? Also, because a lot of my songs are in m4a format, how will that work if I am able to put them on this computer? Will I have to convert them all to mp3?

i) i can't be bothered to check the itunes release date, certainly it was out in 2001, which is several years before microsoft even figured out what to call the os formerly known as longhorn, let alone finished sawing off the pieces it couldn't make work
ii) the majority of people with portable music players use ipod/itunes, so it is for microsoft to conform with the majority and not make changes that impair the products used by the majority
so, by your own argument, it is microsoft's responsibility to maintain compatibility

Cannot install Flash Player plug-in on Windows Vista through Mozilla Firefox

I own a Windows Vista basic version laptop and am currently browsing with Mozilla Firefox. Everytime I try to install the missing plug-in for Adobe Flash Player (the lego image) on the Flash Player homepage it pops up as Flash Player 10.0.45.2 and I agree to the terms of use and click "Install" but then I am asked what I want to open the file with and I don't know what file it is associated with on my computer (My computer often has this problem with .exe files though) . If I close the "Open With" box the installation says failed and gives me an option to "manual install, but when I go to the Adobe Flash Player site (with all other browser windows closed of course), and click "agree and download" a small box with a loading green bar pops up titled "Installing Adobe Download Manager" and stays there for about 2 minutes but nothing ever happens when I am redirected to the "Thank You" page afterwards, no dialog box w/ run or save ever pops up. I have added "get.adobe.com" to my allowed installation add-ons and pop-ups are also allowed on this page but nothing happens. I appreciate any input for my problem...Thanks

Hi, thanks for the update of info. In that case I would download this Flash Player Installer for Internet Explorer to your
Desktop:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe When this window opens, SAVE it to your Desktop.
Before Running, Close all browsers, disable any applications that use Flash(check system tray-area of clock), make sure
in Internet Explorer>Internet Options that Security is set to Medium for the Internet Zone.
Now your Anti=Virus/Firewall can block the Install of the Flash Player ActiveX Control that must be installed. You may want to Disable those also. Windows Firewall is ok, no need to Disable it.
After Installing, make sure to Reboot(restart) your computer. Then go to this test site:

Then using IE, go to Tools>Manage Add ons and check All add ons for Shockwave Flash Object...ActiveX Control..Flash10e.ocx(version 10.0.45.2) and make sure it is listed and Enabled.

Trouble with itunes ipod and windows vista

I just got a new computer with windows vista home premium (32bit) and i am having trouble syncing my ipod with itunes.
when i connect the ipod it asks me if i want to scan and fix the drive, if i click continue without scanning it sometimes wont let me sync, and if it does it only gets about half my music on there before saying it is unable to write to it (unknown error 53)

I have a similar problem, with my new iPod Touch crashing an XP Professional setup. It's worth noting that the Apple article also talks about potential USB conflicts with other devices on the system that might have bad drivers. They say the solution, if that is the fault, is to make sure all your USB drivers are good. I'll try that, by a process of elimination, before re-installing iTunes (as I thought I had the latest version and I don't have Vista). I'll come back here later to report the outcome.
(serious if your iPod crashed your PC - can't even charge its battery ! )

30gig 5th generation video ipod and windows vista

i've been reading alot of posts putting vista down in reguards to the video ipod . i just wanted to say that i have window's vista home premium and my first video ipod
30gig and i've not had a single problem related to vista.
any problems have been to me never having owned an ipod .
just thought i'd set the record straight for those who are thinking of getting a video ipod and already have vista .

Sounds like you have selected to only sync unwatched video content to your iPod.
This is a setting that you can change in your iTunes preferences.

How to reverse 12 gb from ipod to windows vista...

Hello, my ipod is a 5th generation 30 GB ipod formatted in windows. I deleted the original itunes folder on my old computer. Now i own a macbook with Leopard and Vista. They are both authorized and i was able to transfer back the songs i bought on itunes. Also, i was able to copy ipod folder to vista : it says it is just 6.6 MB but in reality it contains 12 GB ( the HD 's says so...). Ok so basically ipod is set manually as a hard drive, i want to put all its content back: playlists, podcasts, videos, photos, every song from my cd collection... everything... but how ? and is it possible to do the same with Leopard?

Hello, I was looking for a program that would take all of my music from my 5th gen. ipod video and put it on my computer that runs windows vista. I have found some programs, but I don't think any of them are compatible with Vista. Saying as i didn't see vista listed. Does anyone know of such a program that can do that? I dont mind if its not free either, I would prefer it to be haha. But if its not thats okay.

IPod and Windows Vista

Hi,
if i connect my iPod to my Windows Vista PC teh CPU usage goes up to 100%. The process svchost take nearly all the processortime.
iTunes and iPod are up to date.
I getting mad about that. With Win XP i don not have these probs.
Any ideas about that ?

I take it that you're a developer.
It is likely that your iPod may not work with Windows Vista (hasn't it still not been properly been released?) - anyway, Try the Microsoft Forums aswell.

You don't really need a driver to use a driver to get a Windows XP computer to work with an iPod. Same goes probably for the Windows Vista.
So, try getting the iPod Updater.
Restore & Update your iPod, then try it with iTunes.
Has your iPod been used with any other operating systems? e.g. Windows XP??? or is it just Windows Vista?

Recognizing an iPod with Windows Vista

I have a new computer that came with Windows Vista. I have not been able to get iTunes to operate correctly for Windows Vista to recognize the USB connection to my iPod. Anyone have a patch or downloadable software suggestion to resolve this?

I finally figured I had nothing to lose--I'd just downloaded a new version of Real Player, which supposedly will work with iPods and Windows Me--and I let my computer format the iPod, hoping that would let it work with Windows again. Apparently not. Now it won't turn on--it's giving me the folder-and-exclamation-point icon. Resetting it didn't help, and I can't restore it because I can't install the software to my computer in the first place.
I suppose the only thing to do is borrow a friend's computer or something.

ITunes 7.1 does not sync with ipod in windows vista

I have windows vista ultimate. I downloaded itunes 7 and I was able to transfer the songs from itunes to my ipod. But when I downloaded the updated version of itunes (that is version 7.1) the computer as well as itunes recognises my ipod but it would not transfer the new songs I imported on itunes into my ipod.
I unistalled itunes and reinstalled it but still facing the same problem, I also reset my ipod but songs would just not transfer from itunes to my ipod. Can anyone advice me on what to do or is it a problem with itunes 7.1 that apple is working on fixing ?

I found the answer.....the problem was with the ipod....just had to restore the ipod and all was fine after that

Looks like the iPod Hardisk is having problem.
Can you do the iPod Disk Diagnostics as posted by tt2, it wont fix your problem but helps in troubleshooting.
You system check maybe above but dont go for Auto, select the Manual test, as tt2 described in his detailed post.

Restore Mackintosh formatted ipod using windows vista

Upon attempting to restore ipod using latest Itunes, I am informed that "Itunes could not contactthe Ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet" - there is no difficulty with my internet connection.

Adobe Acrobat 8 unable to load plug-in in Window Vista

I have developed a plug in for Adobe Acrobat, but Abode Acrobat unable to load the plug in. I try to troubleshoot the problem by putting a messagebox in the PIHandshake function.
Noticed that, the function is not being called by Adobe Acrobat when Acrobat app is launched.
When Adobe Acrobat is launching, I able to see the my plug in's name is display on the splash screen.
Below is the environment info:
a. Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard Version 8.1.3
b. Window Vista Business

Findings:
I use a sample plug-in, the acrobat is able to load it out. Then, I use depend.exe to compare the sample plug-in with my plug-in, I noticed that my plug-in does not have PlugInMain entry point function.
The reason is I compile my plug-in as release version and did not put a command line /EXPORT:PlugInMain under [AppProject]->Properties->Linker->Command line.
The second reason is my plugin - the one with the problem has been cached in VirtualStore directory, and i didn't realize it. Therefore, everytime i run acrobat app, it always load the old api (no PlugInMain) from the VirturalStore directory. After delete the old file. Then, Acrobat is able to load my new api from c:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\plug_ins.
VirtualStore Directory:
C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\plug_ins

Adobe Acrobat 8.1.0 unable to load plug-in in Window Vista 64 bit

Abode Acrobat is not loading the plug-ins which are build using 64bit compiler. Even I tried this with sample plugin (eg. BasicPlugin) but that also I am n't able to load it.
So does Adobe Acrobat 3d v8.1.0 supports plug-ins which are build using 64bit compiler ?.

Actually we have an application, which we need to build in 64bit. And in that application,we embed acrobat. And looks like Adobe Acrobat 3D 8.1 have some support for 64bit and that's why it get embedded.But problem is coming on using adobe plug-ins for 64build.
So is there any way to use plug-ins for 64 build application ?
